It's powered by Subaru's 2.0-litre boxer engine, which puts out 146bhp in current production form but should develop slightly more in future iterations. As we're well aware, the four-pot can be turbocharged to produce monstrous power outputs, but that would also put the price up: Toyota and Subaru are aiming to keep the cost as low as possible to attract younger drivers to the brand.

Toyota FT-86

Toyota FT-86

Toyota FT-86 Inspired by the Corolla-based AE86 sports coupe of the '80s, the FT-86 concept was designed by the automaker's ED2 styling studio in France and bears a remarkable resemblance to the FT-HS concept shown at the Detroit Auto Show several years back. Since it's a "concept," Toyota hasn't divulged much about the FT-86 yet, but we do know it's powered by a Subaru-derived 2.0-liter boxer four sending power to the rear wheels. Toyota focused on keeping the weight down to improve handling and, according to one source, the platform is unique to the concept. The engine sits lower in the engine bay to aid aerodynamics while keeping the center of gravity in check, and the overall dimensions of Toyota's new 2+2 are 163.78 inches long and 69.29 inches wide, with a wheelbase of 101.18 inches.

Toyota FT-86

Toyota FT-86

Toyota FT-86 The FT-86 has a 2+2 seating configuration and measures 416cm in length, just a fraction longer than the Audi TT and around 18cm shorter than the Lotus Evora. We'll find out much more about the FT-86 - and, perhaps, its Subaru counterpart - in Tokyo in a couple of weeks' time.

Toyota FT-86

Toyota FT-86

Toyota FT-86 oyota has released very little information for the FT-86, but a brief press release issued today points to a lightweight body and a low centre of gravity as specific focus points for the concept’s development. The FT-86 measures 4160mm long, 1760mm wide and 1260mm tall, riding on a 2570mm wheelbase. Whether the FT-86 is a near-production look at the upcoming entry-level sportscar or yet another Toyota concept destined for the company’s museum remains to be seen. One stand-out line from the release - “The FT-86 (”86″ pronounced “hachi roku”), a compact rear-wheel-drive sports car, provides driving joy and excitement” - points to new Toyota President Akio Toyoda’s eagerness to revive Toyota’s sporting history.

Toyota Car News

Antilock brakes, 15-inch wheels, air-conditioning, a glass rear window, power windows and locks, and a CD stereo were standard equipment. The mid-mounted 1.8-liter inline-4 was rated at 138 horsepower and 125 pound-feet of torque. The only transmission available was a five-speed manual. In 2002, Toyota introduced the five-speed Sequential Manual Transmission or SMT for the MR2, making it the cheapest car at the time (by a long shot) to offer a true automated clutch manual. We found this option easy to use and liked the way it matched revs on downshifts, even though it sapped some acceleration from the engine. Without a fully automatic mode, however, the SMT's value was questionable. Given this, along with potential durability concerns, we suggest that used MR2 Spyder buyers stick with the regular five-speed manual. For 2003, the MR2 Spyder underwent its midlife freshening with minor changes to the front and rear fascias and instrument panel. The SMT was upgraded to six speeds, while the rear tires grew to 16 inches.

Toyota Car News

This front-engine rear-wheel-drive saloon shares the same basic platform as the Lexus IS250 and GS300 model. Mark-X has a distinct character with its dynamic, stylish curves and its accessories definity qualified it to be a luxury car.

Toyota Mark X

Toyota Mark X

Toyota Mark X Toyota's latest model for the Japanese domestic market, the Mark X, has generated a notable buzz here on IS300.NET, and rampant speculation that it's the new Lexus IS. But is it really? In a word: NO! It's almost scary, however, how much it looks like an evolution of the current Lexus IS/Toyota Altezza. And, frankly, I wouldn't be surprised if the next Lexus IS winds up looking much like this Toyota Mark X.

Toyota Mark X

Toyota Mark X

Toyota Mark X The Mark X is a mid-size automobile from Toyota that is not a concept in Japan – but real life automobile. Introduced in 2004, the Mark X offers larger V6 engines with upwards of 250 horse power, its design and power are similar (though not identical) to the Avalon, which is available in the US and Canada. The Mark X is the successor to the Mark II, first introduced way back in 1968.

Toyota Mark X

Toyota Mark X

Toyota Mark X Now that we know what it isn't, let's explore the significance of the Mark X. It sits on the exact same 112.2" wheelbase as the upcoming 3rd-generation Lexus GS, but is fractionally shorter (186.2" vs 189.8" for the GS), narrower (69.9" vs 71.7" for the GS) and taller (56.5" vs 56.1 " for the GS). My initial suspicions that the Mark X would replace the JDM Toyota Mark II appear to be correct, since the Mark II no longer appears on Toyota's Japanese website. The engine choices are the new 4GR-FSE 2.5-liter V6 and the 3GR-FSE 3-liter V6, just like in the JDM Toyota Crown Royal (and, most likely, the next Lexus IS). The Mark X is then most likely an alternative to the Toyota Crown Royal for one of Japan's 5 Toyota dealer networks that doesn't sell that model. Toyota offers new 4.6-liter V8 for all Toyota Tundras for 2010. This engine mated to a six-speed automatic transmission delivers 310 horsepower and 327 pound-feet of torque. It is 15 mpg in town and 20 mpg on the highway.

Toyota has also introduced the Tundra Work Truck package, which subtracts as much as $655 from the price of the Tundra by eliminating many higher-end features. For example, manual outside rearview mirrors replace the power mirrors and black bumpers and grille replace chrome. It’s available in 4×2 and 4×4 models and combined with several engine choices, including the 381-hp 5.7-liter V8, which gives it a towing capacity up to 10,800 pounds. On the opposite end of the spectrum, Toyota also offers the new Platinum Package, priced at $5,140, which dresses up the CrewMax Limited version of the 2010 Tundra.

This model features a flex-fuel version of the 5.7-liter V8, a billet-style grille, Platinum-logo badging on the doorsills, chrome bumpers, 20-inch alloy wheels and tires. Inside, the 2010 Toyota Tundra CrewMax Platinum Package features ventilated leather seats, a power tilt-and-slide moonroof, a navigation system, wood-trimmed shift knob and chrome-accented vents and controls. 2010 Toyota Tundra CrewMax 2010 Toyota Tundra 2010 Toyota Tundra 2010 Toyota Tundra 2010 Toyota Tundra CrewMax 2010 Toyota Tundra toyota-tundra_crewmax_2010-1e 2010 Toyota Tundra Press Release Toyota Motor Sales (TMS) debuted the 2010 Toyota Tundra full-size pickup truck and an all-new 4.6-liter V8 engine at the 2009 Chicago Auto Show.

On display are two new packages, including the debut of an all-new Tundra Platinum Package and the recently announced Tundra Work Truck. The aim was to make the 5-door hatch more coupe-like in appearance, while increasing the utility that customers have come to expect in the Matrix. For the 2009 model year, the Matrix will come in three grades; Standard represents the (aptly titled) base model, S, and XRS get more aggressive body packaging, larger wheels and tires, and appropriately upgraded bells and whistles. The Matrix will offer two engine choices, 1.8- and 2.4-liter inline-fours with 132 and 158 horsepower respectively. Buyers will have their choice of a five-speed manual or four-speed automatic mated to either engine.

2009 Toyota Matrix

The Toyota Matrix, the sporty five-door vehicle that helped redefine the concept of a crossover utility vehicle, has been redesigned for the 2009 model year to offer performance that matters for driver enjoyment. “The Matrix concept was based on blending the functionality of an SUV, the style, image and performance of a sports car with the affordability of a subcompact sedan.

2009 Toyota Matrix

It's a nice clean design. A Matrix buyer is going to be even more utility-focused than a Corolla buyer, so it just has to look good enough to not be ugly. However, I had to laugh at the design goal to "make the 5-door hatch more coupe-like in appearance." Mercedes and Mazda have managed to pull off "4-door coupe", but I think the "5-door wagon coupe" will need a bit more finess.

Toyota Car News

It is equipped with the 3.0-litre D-4D engine that already features in the Hilux Invincible, but thanks to a Toyota Motorsport diesel-engine performance kit, maximum output is increased from 171 Hp to 197 Hp and maximum torque from 343Nm to 430Nm. With the new power kit, the zero to 62mph acceleration time is cut from 13.0 to 10.5 sec.The special edition Hilux 3.0D-4D also features new 15-inch alloy wheels and stainless steel mesh grille while the cabin is finished in a special two-tone grey leather, with heated front seats. That means a mix of characteristics that lean towards a more conventional car than a sport-utility vehicle. That means a mix of characteristics that lean towards a more conventional car than a sport-utility vehicle. Think of the Venza as a station wagon and you'll probably get a point.

2009 Toyota Venza
Of course, does not look exactly like the station wagon we've seen before. Unveiled at Detroit's North American International Auto show in January, Venza drew lots of attention. Among the vehicles at this time, he reminds us most of the Ford Edge crossover.

2009 Toyota Venza
There are many in the Toyota Lexus RX350, too, but the Venza is pressed down close to the ground, and sleeker. Front end is higher, but definitely molded in the theme of Toyota Camry sedan at this time. Venza's rear glass that has a nice, long rake, and taillights wrap around the rear fenders to hatch. Its standard wheels measure 19 inches in diameter, while 20-inch spoked alloys are optional. In short, the Venza is one of the more handsome, interesting vehicles Toyota has launched in some time.

2009 Toyota Venza
A dimensional view of a crossover label into perspective. At 109.3 inches and 189 inches, respectively, the Venza's wheelbase and overall length match both Toyota's Camry sedan and Highlander sport-utility fractions in an inch. In other words, the Venza's footprint on the pavement matches both Camry and Highlander closely. However, the overall height of 63.4 inches, the Venza slots right in the middle of the Camry and Highlander. It's ride height of fall somewhere in the middle, too.

2009 Toyota Venza seats five, such as the Camry, rather than seven as Highlander. Rocker is high, or around the lips from the bottom of the passenger door, which is low, so it is easy to lift the foot in, but the hip for occupants sit higher than that of the typical sedan. The combination should deliver a mix many buyers seek: easy entry and exit, with the seating position is higher for higher around the vehicle on the road.

2009 Toyota Venza has not published cargo volume for Venza, but it seems capacity will fall somewhere between Camry and Highlander. There is no room in the back of Venza as a second seat in the Highlander, which has enough space for the optional third, respectively. But in the back room with the Venza to Camry's trunk, and increased when the rear seats are folded flat. Some easy-to-use levers allow Venza's 60/40 split rear seats folded to the back of the rear hatch is opened, without running around on the side of the door first. There seems to load floor is lower than that in the typical SUV.

2009 Toyota Venza
Venza originate in the engine will be a big, new four-cylinder displacing 2.7 liters. Toyota has not released its horsepower or torque ratings. The upgrade will be the same 3.5 liter V6 offered in some Toyota products, including the Camry and Highlander, produces 268 horsepower at 6200 rpm and 246 pound-feet of torque at 4700 rpm. Both engines come with six-speed automatic transmission, and Venza will be provided with either front-wheel or all-wheel drive. V6 properly and equipment, maximum towing capacity is 3500 pounds.

2009 Toyota Venza
We estimate that Venza has a fully independent rear suspension, but it is also possible that storage space is equipped with a solid axle of some sort. Toyota does not say, however, and we can not crawl under to see. A Toyota engineer on hand at the Detroit auto show said Venza is at least partly based on the Camry. Camry has independent rear suspension, even though it does not mean that the Venza.

We believe it is installed with the full front, side and head-protection airbags, with a little knee-protection bag for the driver. There are also new features Toyota STAR active safety system, which integrates anti-lock brakes, traction control, electronic brake-force distribution, brake assist, vehicle stability and control with Rollover mitigation system.

2009 Toyota Venza
Venza Splits from the dashboard of the front of the cabin into two figurative halves. A prominent center stack holds the key and control, including the dash-mounted gear selector, and come down a long, wide console. The biggest component is the console that looks big enough to accommodate a laptop, and it fit with auxiliary audio jack and at least one 12-volt power point. Venza's rear seatbacks recline to a 14 degrees for a little extra passenger comfort.

2009 Toyota Venza
Even the most expensive Venza will come equipped with both. Standard features include dual-zone automatic AC, cruise control, a six-CD changer, tilt / telescopic steering wheel with audio controls, remote keyless entry, an electro-chromatic rearview mirror with compass, rear wiper and privacy glass. Prius sales dropped 45% in the end of 2008, and things are so bad across the product range that they’ve announced that they’re suspending all vehicle production in all 12 Japanese plants for 11 days over February and March.

Toyota Prius

Even if oil prices don’t rise in the near future, Toyota is hoping for the whole “greening” of America to boost Prius sales, fueled by demand from environmentally-conscious buyers, as long as they don’t find out how damaging to the environment the production of a Prius is, despite the Prius itself being a greener car than a regular sedan or hatchback.

Toyota Prius

Toyota Prius

Toyota says the new Prius is roomier, quieter, more advanced and has more equipment. It even has a moonroof equipped with a solar panel located over the rear seating area. As previously speculated, the solar panels only powers the air circulation fan for the air conditioning system, not even the whole air conditioning system! This fan can function while the car is unoccupied, which means it can keep the car’s interior cool while it is parked under the hot sun.

Toyota Prius

As for styling, the original shape has been retained since it has become iconic, defining what a hybrid should look like so much that even Honda was “inspired” by it for the new second generation Honda Insight. But it is larger, with the original shape stretched and moulded to its new proportions. The front headlamps have a unique shape to them, okay maybe not exactly unique, we recently saw the exact same thing on the new Nissan 370Z!

Toyota Prius

The Atkinson cycle engine under the hood is now larger and more powerful, clocking in at 1.8 liters on the displacement scale and putting out 98 horsepower at 5,200rpm and 142Nm of torque at 4,000rpm. The electric motor puts out 80hp and 208Nm of torque, but combined output of the two systems are 134 horsepower. Power from the two “engines” go through an electronically controlled CVT transmission. The hybrid battery pack is still a NiMH (no move to lithium ion yet). The Prius can run in 3 modes - EV, Eco and Power. EV is an electric-only mode (which can run for about 1.6km, good for short trips to the shop or mamak), while Eco and Power should be self explanatory.

Toyota Prius

Toyota Prius

There are a few engineering improvements in the new Prius over the old one, especially in teh area of the Hybrid Synergy Drive system. The transaxle is now lighter and reduces torque losses by as much as 20%. The inverter has a new direct cooling system which results in a smaller size and lighter weight. A new brake energy regeneration system has also been fitted. The system also uses exhaust gas heat to help warm up the engine during startup for improved emissions and performance. This exhaust gas heat is also used to heat up the passenger cabin more efficiently. The body uses aluminium in the hood, rear hatch, front suspension axle and brake caliper to reduce weight.

Toyota Car News

A Toyota Prius is the only exception, because it was fair to say that the city is a regular sedan-type car, and quite a serial.
