Asian Fetish Guy (AFG): I really love Asians.

I generally don’t have an issue with guys who favor women of the darker complexion, and darker features. I don’t even have an issue with guys who favor slanted eyes and petite frames. That’s all in the realm of “taste”. My “taste” errs towards the light-eyed, light skinned variety of men with very muscular bodies. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with being attracted to a certain flavor.

My issue is with the Asian fetish that is motivated by the ill-informed stereotypes. The little shy Geisha’s that are tigers in the bedroom really only exist in porn. The little Vietnamese girl looking for a big strong American… ridiculous! Especially if they were born and raised in America!

If you really are looking for your Miss Saigon, you’re not exactly looking for an equal partner, which means that you need to stay at least a stones throw away from me (because I’ll be throwing stones at your head). When these fetishists look at me with a certain expectation – the kind that involves them being the big strong white guy standing up for tiny, helpless Asian girl – I puke in my mouth just a little bit and fight the urge to punch them in the teeth. I believe doing one or both of those things would be considered a social faux-pas.

I speak English with an American accent, I speak French better than I speak Tagalog and I am far from any kind of emotional, sexual or financial slavery. Sorry, but the cute little Sailor Moon/Geisha act isn’t encoded into our DNA.

Am I wrong in my assumption that some Asian-philes or Asian women lovers are looking for someone who can be controlled? Maybe. I obviously can’t speak for ALL men and there are always a ton of exceptions but the impression left on this Asian girl is that men who say “I love Asian women” towards the beginning of an acquaintanceship should be dropped headfirst into the Bog of Eternal Stench or chemically castrated. It has never ended well. Never.

So let’s all toast to me turning 23, and hopefully gaining some wisdom. Maybe one day I won’t want to smash my head through cinder block when look back on the last 365 days.

Me, myself and I need to re-group and get our shit together, because this is turning into a trend.

My phone broke last Friday after I had a gesticulating fit! I got too worked up about the Machida vs. Rua fight and ended up tossing my phone onto the concrete and SMASH! insta-broke-phone. Since then, it’s been more difficult to reach me for dinners and movies and whatever outings might be planned by my peers. It’s become a blessing in disguise. Little did I know it, I needed the time alone.

It may seem depressing to some, but having a few Coronas in my room while listening to good music and reading a good book was just what the doctor ordered.

Katana’s thoughts for being 23 in 2009/2010:

Stay single for awhile.
No more settling down - because it’s a waste of time and money.
Just because a guy loves you, doesn’t mean it’s worth loving them back.
If it’s right, it’s right. Don’t force it. A guy that’s worth being with will make it blatantly obvious.

Here’s a toast to possibly gaining some wisdom and learning from my mistakes. I’m sure I’ll be saying something similar when I’m turning 24. What I’ll be saying when I turn the big three-oh will probably be nothing short of comical.

At least now I know a few things about myself that I didn’t know before; I’m not made for casual relationships, I’m wasn’t created to do anything halfway, I wasn’t born to be any kind of financial planner (because I suck at finances!) and while there are some occupations I could be good in, there are very few jobs that I can develop any passion for.

I looked at him puzzled. Tight jeans, form-fitting shirt, hair down and done. Nothing about me screamed “Army”. Put on some makeup and I can slip into a civilian alter-ego pretty easily. He leaned in close to my ear.

“Your dog tags are hanging out,” he laughed.

Oops! I looked down at the slightly low-cut shirt to see that dog tags, and the room keys I had attached to them, were dangling halfway down to my navel.

As a master of disguise, I am an epic fail.

Was there a once upon a time where I would have tried if the option were available to me? Hell yes. Then I turned 19 and realized that I’m more valuable behind a desk. I can see trends and concepts that others have to study to comprehend. I can learn languages easily. I can understand cultural differences and grasp the law of inertia (actions-reactions) and how it applies to wars today. I also like to keep mud from caking in my hair…

In spite of this, I watched two or three people in my Squad completely get on an adrenaline high yesterday when we were doing Squad tactics. The visible changes in their demeanor when they’re assaulting an objective is incredible. And yes, they’re branched infantry.

In spite of the fact that every branch IS here to support the infantry (you can’t win without boots on the ground), the infantry can’t do their job without every other branch of the military. Without Military Intelligence (my branch), you can’t win the war. Without Artillery, your infantry guys turn into canon fodder. Without Medical, Aviation…etc. You get my point.

Everyone should know the basic concepts that surround the job of an infantryman. I’d be surprised if anyone outside of the Military Intelligence community knows what Intel even does (I’m not bitter…).

On that note, it’s raining. Time to play in mud again.

Me and Guile, 4 weeks ago. Obviously still alive.

I recieved a facebook message asking me if Guile was killed by a sniper in Iraq last week.

Last I checked, I was talking to him on the phone and he was in Colorado and planning to meet me over Thanksgiving for some good ol’ skiing. So no, not dead. Not even in Iraq. The source of that rumor was some guy neither Guile, or I, even remember from High School but apparently he knows him (or us)… or at least has the inside scoop. It’s not every day you claim someone is dead. Whatever the intention – the guys a douchefag!

This rumor offended me. It made my blood boil the fuck over. It’s obviously not true and I find any thoughts of him getting hurt a deeply disturbing one. I would be a fucking wreck if anything happened to him.

I hope the kid that started the rumor gets his head shoved in a toilet. What kind of little douche says something like that? Obviously the kind that doesn’t really know what it’s like to receive news that their friend (no, I don’t mean some distant facebook friend or guy they barely knew – a true, committed friend) was hit by a sniper and died in Iraq.

I hope every one of them gets a baseball bat to the mouth.
