When Clapton fought it out between Jeff Beck and Pete Townsend for the coveted title of 'Guitar God' in the mid-1960's, he probably tipped the balance on the strength of Cream's song-craft and energetic live performances.

Then a boy from Seattle called James Marshall Hendrix came along and, for Clapton in particular, everything changed. Townsend always had his own "thing". Jeff Beck, while viewed as a rock player, already showed early leanings towards the fusion style he would later dominate. But Clapton had nothing to call his own. His entire reputation was built upon the ignorance of his audience towards the black American musicians he was ripping off, while issuing drunken racist rants about UK immigration policy from on-stage; fuelling the flames of hatred towards blacks, which was started by Enoch Powell's infamous 'rivers of blood' speech, that Clapton wholeheartedly endorsed.

Once Hendrix stomped to victory, with the panache only someone who isn't trying to be cool but just is cool can muster, Eric 'my son died so I'll write a hit song about how traumatic it was' Clapton never played another note worth listening to ever again. He vanished into drugs and drink, and magically came out the other side astonished to find his audience still buying into his own self-aggrandising hype, long after even he stopped believing it.

And so his name, to this day, repeatedly pops up on lists of 'greatest all time most spectacular, we are not worthy, guitar gods', alongside Les Paul owning morons like Slash, while names such as Derek Trucks, Allan Holdsworth and Ted Greene mean little or nothing to 99.9% of the bell-ends who still buy Guitar World magazine.

And you know why? Because in a world where Eric fucking Clapton is the high watermark, the true masters of the most important musical instrument to be invented in the last 100 years are easy to ignore. When you say nothing every time some knows-fuck-all-about-music so-called journalist lauds it over Slow-hand, while labelling music their piss filled brain can't understand as "too esoteric" or "too 'technical'", and too "Jazzy", you — YES YOU — are personally responsible for the continued tolerance of Justin Bieber, in a world utterly indifferent to the existence of Dirty Loops.

Eric Clapton isn't God, he is Satan. Now. Prove me wrong. Post links and valid arguments in favour of Clapton below. Give me one good reason to soften my opinion of the man who has dined out on Layla for the past fifty million years, despite being too drunk to work on the original studio recording, but just cunty enough to take the credit for what was actually Duane Allman's playing.

First off, what a great film! But I have something bugging me. At the end when the necklace shoots out the kid's pocket and he catches it, how did it get back in his pocket after the solider took it off him? After taking it off the kid, the next time we see the solider he's being eaten by the alien and the kids are locked in the bus. How did the necklace get back in his pocket?

10 new features of OS X Lion you might not already know about

You can now resize any window by dragging any of its edges. Many Mac users have already been able to mimic this Windows-like behaviour by using third party hacks, but it's now built in. What's nice, is that by holding down the Option key, you can resize the window from a centre point, just as you can with the Command + Shift + 4 screenshot tool. You can also hold down the Shift key to constrain the proportions of the window, rather like the way the Transform Selection tool works in Adobe Photoshop, by 'snapping' to X and Y coordinates.
In Fullscreen Mode (Command + Control + F) Safari allows you to narrow the window to a centre column, so that the text on webpages which are 100% aligned to the far left and right edges doesn't become so widely spaced apart that it's hard to read when extended out across a large display. Just enter Fullscreen Mode and float the mouse over the righthand edge of the window. You'll get a resize cursor which pulls in the lefthand side of the window at the same time as the right, when you click and drag.
You've probably noticed that in your Home folder, you no longer have a System Library folder. In fact it's just hidden. Apple are making a big push to get OS X Lion into the hands of as many new users as they can, so it makes sense that some of the UNIX underpinnings of the Operating System should be protected from accidental tinkering. Most people will be happy to leave OS X Lion as it is and simply open the Library folder by clicking on the 'Go' menu in Finder and holding down the Option key to reveal the hidden menu item, but you can make the folder permanently visible again, by entering the following text into a new Terminal window, replacing username with the name of the account you want to change:

In System Preferences > Sound, tick the 'Show volume in menu bar' option at the bottom of the pane. Now when you hold down the Option key and click on the Speaker icon in the top left menu bar, instead of seeing the volume slider you can instead choose which Input / Output device to use. This is particularly useful for those who use their Mac's built-in speakers for day-to-day web browsing, but want to quickly switch to an external sound device for higher quality audio, such as a home theatre system, or when using professional sound editing apps.
Finder now sorts folder contents by two different arrangement criteria. In any Finder window, hit Command + J to pop up the View Options pane. You can now sort, for example your Downloads folder, by the date an item was added to it and by a secondary range of sort criteria, such as Application type, file type, the file size and so on. Column view (Command + Shift + 3) now also shows a Quicklook preview of the currently selected item. This is ideal for music production, where sorting through a folder of audio files would ordinarily mean having to import a whole library into iTunes, simply to audition the one sample you want out of a collection of hundreds.
Quicklook has been given a facelift. Now, when you hit the Spacebar with, say, an image file selected, in the top righthand corner of the app you get a button which opens the selection in the default image viewer. But with multiple selections, you also get a view button in the top left of the Quicklook pane, which allows you to tile the files in Fullscreen mode (Command + Option + Y)
Filevault now actually works. When this home folder encryption tool was first introduced, many people tried it out only to discover it slowed down even very fast systems so much, that made it completely impractical to use. Now the whole application has been re-written from the ground up. Not only can you begin the encryption process on-the-fly, meaning you don't have to wait for the process to complete before you can use your computer again, but it also works hand in hand with the new memory protection convention which Apple has built in, which (in very simple terms) means that applications will no longer "leak" into the same memory address when they crash. The upshot of which, means that it just got twenty times harder for nefarious code, which you might pick up from a malicious website for example, to give remote access to your system folder to someone who wanted to retrieve your personal information. Filevault can also generate a random key, which you can store on Apple's servers, so if you do accidentally lock yourself out of the system you can enable it again by answering a security question. So if someone does steal your laptop, they won't be able to read any of your personal files even if they physically remove the hard drive and read it with a forensic scanner.
There is now an invisible rescue partition on your hard drive, which you can boot from instead of inserting an install CD. Because OS X Lion is download only, there's no physical disc for you to boot from if something goes wrong and you need to reinstall the OS. But if you hold down Command + R after the start-up chime, you'll be presented with a quick loading mini OS that runs Safari, so you can browse the internet to read help files, Disk Utilities, so you can Repair Disk Permissions, erase and partition hard drives and reinstall OS X Lion from scratch over the internet. You can also work with recordable DVDs and CDs if you want to burn an image of the OS installer onto a disc or USB drive.
Text to speech is now done with much more realistic voices. To keep the size of the OS X Lion download as small as possible, some features need to be added after installation is complete. If you open System Preferences > Speech and click the Text to Speech tab, in the System Voice menu choose 'Customise'. You can now see a list of voices in various languages which are not yet installed, but which can be retrieved from the Apple server at no extra cost. Once you've picked the voices you want, you can audition them by clicking the Play button and when you choose OK they will begin to download.
Safari now has a built-in 'read it later' function, called Reading Lists. If you see a link you want to read later, say on the front page of reddit.com, if you Shift + Click, the link is added to a date sorted list which you can reveal or hide by hitting the Control + Shift + L key. Unfortunately this key command replaces the keystroke which in Snow Leopard searched Google with the currently selected text. You can still use this System Service, but you'll have to re-assign a new key command to it manually, by opening System Preferences > Keyboard > Keyboard Shortcuts Tab and choosing Services in the left pane and scroll down to 'Search With Google' in the right pane. You can add your own keyboard shortcut by double clicking anywhere to the right of the Service name you want to assign a key command to and then hold down the key combination you want to assign to that service.

Holy shit is this site racist. I'm getting the impression that most of the people saying the racist things are American. I know that sounds weird but it's the vibe I'm getting.
