What if I could name a major local
business that is losing a lot of money? I am talking about cable.

But that is a very profitable
business,
along with internet access and digital telephones, right? It is
also
very competitive.

The cable business like the telephone
company is very profitable. But they are also into invading
everyone's privacy. They make an initial trip into your home to
set
everything up. Then every few months they have to come in to
correct
something to keep every thing working. And that is where a quiet
revolution is occurring. People are cancelling the cable. They
don't
want the cable guy in their homes.

I have a long term Christian friend.
Her name is unimportant. For this article I will call her
Michelle.
Michelle is type I and II diabetic. It is where a person has no
insulin left. They are insulin resistant.
Michelle weighs in at
about
350 pounds. She wasn't always that heavy. I suggest insulin had
something to do with the weight gain. Her sister is weighing in at
around 275. They are both in their 60s. Both are single and most
of
their lives they have kept up with the housekeeping. Now they are
both barely able to live without assistance. Their house is no
longer
tidy. There are things to put away. But they may never get put
away.
Michelle and her sister are couch bound a lot of the time. But
they
can still feed themselves. Still do basic functions. Still go to
the
store. Only they have no energy left after doing so. And there is
the
problem. They are short of energy to do everyday basic things.

Michelle isn't alone. Mary has had a
problem walking since her 50s. She has gone arthritic. A lot of
people have had operations. In a year or two they are back. They
are
all crippled. A lot of these people do not and cannot keep house.
So
they do it once a week. Or even once a month. Or never. But they
still enjoy the luxury of being their own boss, having their own
home. A lot hire someone to mow the law and shovel the sidewalks
when
appropriate.. But they jealously guard their privacy. No one must
know.

I know a lot of people like Michelle.
A
lot of people that have gotten to the point where housekeeping is
a
very big problem. Most own their own homes and a lot are on
disability or retired. If you count the spots in front of your
local
grocery with handicap markers on them, then divide by about 3, you
have the number of people at any time of day or night that might
be a
Michelle or Mary. I estimate I personally know about 30 Michelles
in
my area. I know there are thousands more. I know the local
department
stores keep 8 electric carts on hand at all times.

I often volunteer to do minor
maintenance for some of my friends. So I have seen first hand what
their houses look like. I am not their judge nor intend to be. I
don't walk in their shoes. But if a toilet is blocked, I can
usually
fix it. If a sink leaks because of a corroded P pipe, I can
generally
fix that also. Been known to replace a light switch or an electric
plug when necessary, or troubleshoot a fuse that controls an Air
Conditioner.

I often keep their PCs running for
them. I am probably an intermediate user. I can do most things on
a
computer. I can make basic repairs. So because I am trusted, they
let
me in where they would not let anyone else in. So I know what the
numbers look like. And those numbers are fairly large. It is a lot
more common than anyone realises.

None of the these people will own
cable. Why? Because they have to let someone in their house on a
regular basis. And they do not want to let a stranger into their
living room. I guest-imate a good 10-20 percent of the people out
there without regard to age do not want a stranger fixing things
in
their living room or repairing them constantly every other month.

That means the cable company is losing
10-20% of the business out there because of privacy issues.
If
they
get a cable company at all, then they install it themselves or do
without. Often it falls to a member of the family that is not
handicapped. These people have a little bit of technical
knowledge.
Often they go to cable alternatives like Direct TV and others.

I think that is why they often go to a
company that allows them to install and maintain things
themselves.
Or they simply put up an antenna and replace it once every 5 to 10
years. Again that chore falls to a relative with some knowledge
and
the ability to climb.

What the cable company needs to do is
reinvent itself. You have two terminals outside your home.
One is
attached to the house outside. The other is attached to a
telephone
pole or a junction box at the bottom of the yard if it is buried.
They need a signal junction. This measures the signal coming into
the
house. That would be in the junction box attached to the house.
They
need a second signal junction at the pole. This would
automatically
tell a technician if the problem is outside the house.
Those cute
little squirrels have a tendency to chew through lines. So do
raccoons and possums. Under the current system, the cable man
comes
in and uses your modem to determine where the signal went wrong.

I suggest if the problem is in the
boxes in the house or the modem in the house, it is detectable
from
the wires coming into the house from the junction box. All that
has
to happen is someone needs to unplug the modem or the cable box
and
take it in to the cable company. The cable company will happily
replace both items for you if you can plug them back in at home.
If a
family member can learn how to do this, no more privacy invasion.

The cable company is the real winner
in
a situation like this. If someone in the house can plug the boxes
up
properly and the modem, there is no real need for someone to
invade
your home. They don't have to pay the extra freight of a
technician
coming out every other month.

We had a nickname for one brand of
modem. They called it the brick. Every time there was any kind of
power outage. Every modem in the district turned into a brick. The
techs were working overtime just keeping the system together. They
started replacing them with something more stable. Anyone need a
king
sized paper weight? Uverse actually has a battery backup that acts
as
wall between the modem and the power company. So it is a real
problem
when the power goes off and comes back on in a surge.

Not every situation can be solved by
family. There are times when a tech is necessary to figure out
what
is going on. Not everyone has an electrician in the house.

If you want to pick up 20% more
business. Find a way to keep it Simple. Find a way to keep that
cable
guy out of our homes.

Couples have been getting married for years now. The institution of marriage has always been one where relationships are recognized and two people declare their union together. The couple’s wedding day is typically one that is culminated with a big celebration of their love and commitment to one another. Many of the customs that we know and practice weren’t always done the way they are today. Here are some little known facts about marriages then and now and how they originated.

With this ring: The wedding ring is a symbol of a couple’s marriage. The act of giving a ring dates back to Roman times. The ring is placed on the fourth finger because the Romans believed the vein in this finger led directly to the heart. Some cultures, such as Ancient Egypt saw the wedding ring as a connection with their supernatural beliefs.

Carry me: The act of carrying the bride across the threshold is believed to have come from the groom attempting to protect her from evil.

Old, New, Borrowed & Blue: One of the oldest traditions, these items are usually good luck items given to the bride on her wedding day. The something old represents continuity, something new represents the future, something borrowed is a symbol for borrowing happiness, and something blue represents love and fidelity for the couple.

Word is Bond: Older times also saw an agreement between the two families. The groom would give a marriage bond to the court before his marriage. The bond stated the couple could be married and the groom would not rescind on his agreement. The surety was typically a relative of the bride such as the brother or uncle.

White Wedding: The tradition of the white wedding dress comes from Europe and is usually credited to Queen Victoria of England in 1840 when she decided to wear a white dress for her wedding to Prince Albert. Brides typically did not wear white before that wedding and instead wore a variety of colors. The style of a white wedding dress spread and is the norm today for most brides.
<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 115%;">There comes a certain point after college where
everyone shifts from the single or dating scene to the engaged or married
scene. Marriage within groups of friends seems to come in waves, and suddenly
everyone is showing off engagement rings and planning weddings, and getting
married is all that anyone is able to talk about. The total immersion into the
world of weddings is enough to make some people second guess their decision to
abstain from getting married for the time being and consider popping the
question or accepting a proposal. However just because everyone else is getting
married doesn’t mean you should be too; here are five of the wrong reasons
people get married:

<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 115%; mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman";">1.<span style="font: 7.0pt "Times New Roman";">

else is getting married. <span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 115%;">All of your friends are suddenly
engaged or married, and with all these showers and weddings you’re attending
it’s enough to make you think that it might be time for you to settle down too.
However, unless you’ve met “The One” and know without a shadow of a doubt that
you’re making the right decision, you should probably hold out on that marriage
proposal or acceptance. Don’t get married just because your friends are.

<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 115%;">You
want kids. <span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 115%;">Baby fever. Think it’s not real? Think
again. Maybe your biological clock is ticking or maybe you’re suffering from
the symptoms simply because your friends are all having kids and suddenly you
want to as well, but unless you’re settled in with the person you want to spend
the rest of your life with, wanting kids is not a good reason to get married.
Settling down with someone for the sole reason of having kids is flirting with
destruction.

Money can hold a lot of power in a relationship, and at times it can seem like
a very motivating reason for tying the knot with someone; however happiness
born from money is a finite type of happiness. Sooner or later you’ll reach a
point where all the money in the world won’t be enough to sway you from the
unhappiness born of a marriage built on nothing more than dollar bills.
keep a family unified. <span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 115%;">Getting pregnant out of wedlock
compels many people to suddenly view marriage as the only option. Keeping the
family unified seems like the best route to take, even if you don’t truly get
along with your significant other or have never wanted a serious relationship
with them. If you’re toying with the idea of getting married to ensure the best
interests of your kids, think again. Your kids’ best interests lie with parents
who are happy, and happy doesn’t necessarily mean together.

<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 115%;">You
think it will fix the relationship. <span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 115%;">It’s not uncommon for
people to operate under the wrong assumption that getting married will be the
catalyst that fixes an otherwise failing relationship, or that it will suddenly
change things about your significant other that you think need changing.
However this thinking couldn’t be more flawed, as marriage often only compounds
problems that were already thriving in a bad relationship.

<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 115%;">Getting married for the right reasons can result in
a beautiful, fulfilling union between two people. However
getting married just because you want to have kids or because you think it will
change a toxic relationship won’t do either party any favors. Make sure your
reasons for saying, “I do” are the right ones before you opt to tie the knot.

Although your wedding anniversary is an exciting and important thing to celebrate, it can often be hard to know what to buy your spouse for an anniversary gift. You want to give your spouse something that means a lot, but factors such as money, time, and children must all be taken into consideration as well. If you are having a hard time finding an anniversary gift for your spouse, the following tips can help.

Pay Close Attention to Your Spouse’s Likes and Interests

The best way to get ideas for an anniversary gift for your spouse is to pay close attention to their likes and interests. This will allow you to get a variety of ideas so you are prepared when you set out to find the perfect gift. If your wife loves going to the movies or out to dinner at a certain restaurant, make note of this. If your husband loves golfing or going to baseball games, make it a point to remember this as well. If you and your spouse share a particular interest or have been talking about going somewhere specific together, your anniversary is the perfect time to put the plan into action. If money is tight, a card and a nice evening at home with your spouse may be all it takes to celebrate your anniversary.
Since every couple is different, the anniversary gift you choose for your spouse may vary greatly from what your friend gets for his or her spouse. Keep in mind that this is absolutely fine, and your love is not always defined by what you can or cannot buy.

Ask Family and Friends for Ideas

If you are having trouble finding an anniversary gift for your spouse, take the time to ask his or her family for ideas and suggestions. Friends and family often know your spouse better than anyone else, so they can be a great source of help. In some instances, they may be able to provide you with ideas that you never even thought of. This is because your spouse may not discuss every little thing they want with you. If you ask friends or family for ideas, you may be able to come up with the perfect gift that will surprise and delight your spouse beyond words.

Plan Together

Since finding the perfect anniversary gift for your spouse is not always easy, you can always resort to planning something together. Sit down with your spouse and hash out a plan for something romantic or adventurous. If money or time is an issue, a weekend camping getaway is an inexpensive, fun idea that may give you and your spouse the perfect amount of alone time. Planning your anniversary celebration together may be just as fun as finding that perfect gift on your own.

Now that you know some tips for finding an anniversary gift for your spouse, you should be able to come up with the perfect idea. Just remember that money does not particularly matter and it is always the thought that counts.

<span style="font-family: "Calibri","sans-serif"; font-size: 11pt;">It is true
that advances in technology for communicating with others have changed how
people form relationships. Social media and other forms of electronic
communication offer convenience, but there are issues that need addressing.
Some feel that the art of holding a conversation is gone in favor of posting or
tweeting on social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter.

Direct Communication

Face-to-face communication is the best way to see hand gestures or facial
expressions, hear voice inflections, or see reactions to gauge the true meaning
of the message. Although it does not offer the same advantages of human
interaction or contribute to deepening human relationships, social media does
add a layer of complexity to personal communication. In addition, many
individuals find it easier to update a post instead of sitting down to talk on
the phone or writing an email.

Human Interaction

It is important to form deeper human connections with other people.
Unfortunately, social media does not foster the same type of bonding as human
interaction. The social networking sites allow users to share and exchange
information and media. Individuals who post on these sites sometimes lie on
their profiles, and there is no way to know the real identity of the profile presented.

Laying the foundation for learning social skills involves using face-to-face
communication and the lack of a sound foundation results in faulty
communication. This is particularly important for young adults who are trying
to assert their independence and create their own identity. Making a connection
with another human being involves more than posting the day’s activities on a
social networking site.

Contributing Factors

Some of the reasons why social media is so popular are the convenience and
accessibility. At any given time, there is access to family, friends,
coworkers, and business acquaintances who share the same interests. Similarly,
there are new groups forming everyday attracting new followers to join and
share their experience, knowledge, and advice.

Easily communicate with family and friends on the go with a smartphone, laptop,
or other mobile device. Grandparents and other family stay in the loop with
loved ones and avoid the expense and hassle of travel.

With busy schedules and lifestyles, it does not take much time to update a post
on a social media site. However, there are good reasons for using these sites
and individuals also find help and support. For example, when a person is going
through a difficult time and needs support, finding others with similar
experiences is comforting. In addition, there is the opportunity to start or
join a support group to converse about specific issues. On occasion, there are
times when posting on a social media site leads to personal contact. It has the
potential for opening up the possibility of broadening a person’s life with new
relationships.

Social Media Drawbacks

Communicating through the written word has its limitations and messages are
usually short and choppy. When a post is long, others may view it as a rant.
Words on a page fall flat without the ability to convey their deeper meaning,
but it does offer users instant gratification. In the end, it is difficult to
take back misinterpreted words once a person hits the send button.

Sadly, due to crammed and busy schedules, there is a tendency to multitask or
become distracted while posting or tweeting. It is easy to miss visual
subtleties and social cues because of the distractions. By no means should
individuals stop using social media, but consider how and when it is
appropriate.

It is important to communicate but understand that social media and other forms
of electronic communication can never replace human interaction or face-to-face
communication.

The value of communication is lost when there is no personal contact; however,
video allows both parties to see, hear, and experience the communication. Using
webcam, smartphone video, or Skype video is similar to sitting down and talking
with a person. While it is not a replacement, video is useful in bridging the
gap of communicating with friends too far to visit or when talking to loved
ones.

Social media will probably be around for quite some time, but remember, it does
have limitations when it comes to face-to-face communication.

Whether you have cooked for your spouse thousands of times or
you've never picked up a spatula in your life, here are a few tips that
can help you present an amazing meal.

1. Use fresh ingredients

A sprinkling of fresh California olive oil
will make a much better impression than budget olive oil. Fresh
asparagus tastes noticeably different than frozen asparagus. Whatever
you're cooking, you should remember that fresh ingredients are often the
only difference between professional cooks and amateurs.

There are some dishes that call for canned or frozen
ingredients. For instance, homemade pizzas are sometimes better with
canned mushrooms, which hold their moisture better than fresh mushrooms
when cooked. However, you should generally try to avoid non-fresh
ingredients unless you have a good reason to do otherwise.

2. Plan out the timing of the meal

Timing
is important when you are cooking for a spouse, so make a list of your
courses and their preparation times. Make sure to start cooking all of
your dishes at appropriate times, taking into account cooling times for
dishes like bread and desserts.

Before you start cooking any of your dishes,
double-check to make sure that you have enough ingredients to make the
entire meal. You don't want to end up running to the store for another
stick of butter halfway through the meal preparation.

3. Presentation is everything

Whether
you are trying to cook a romantic dinner for a special occasion or
you're simply cooking a basic three-course meal to welcome your spouse
home from work, you should remember the importance of good presentation.
Fill your spouse's plate with food to make the meal look full and
inviting. If you are cutting back on portions, use smaller dinnerware to
highlight the meal. Don't be afraid to use garnish to create an
aesthetically pleasing dish.

You can easily impress your spouse by cooking a
large meal. Remember to check over your menu with your spouse ahead of
time and focus on good presentation. By planning your meal carefully,
you can give your spouse a nutritious, cost-effective meal that he or
she will remember.
Shattered Paradigmhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15108535580841006211noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8618109818465913923.post-58199373019962755442012-04-12T21:45:00.001-04:002012-04-12T21:45:23.350-04:003 Tips For Aging Well Together

Older couples often worry about health issues that could affect
both partners, but many common health problems can be avoided with
regular preventative treatment and light exercise. Partners can help one
another stay healthy by paying attention to early warning signs and by
working together to stay fit and active. Here are a few general tips
that couples can use to age well together in the years leading up to and
after retirement.

1. Schedule regular age and gender-appropriate examinations

Women over the age of 50 should speak with their physicians to schedule time with bone densitometers for an osteoporosis examination. Older men should receive regular prostate examinations around the same time.

Regular examinations are important for staying
healthy, because doctors will often catch the early warning signs of
serious illnesses and conditions like cancer, cataracts, heart disease
and high blood pressure. Most physicians will provide a timetable for
regular examinations to their older patients on request, but couples
should proactively schedule examinations and remind each other of
upcoming appointments.

2. Share physically demanding responsibilities

Housecleaning,
home repair and even driving can be physically demanding for older
individuals. Discussing and sharing these responsibilities is a great
way to minimize stress and avoid accidental injuries.

In many households, one partner will handle the
majority of the aforementioned activities, particularly if the other
partner was the primary source of income before retirement. After
retirement, however, couples should split up these responsibilities to
keep both partners active, healthy and involved. Older individuals
should prepare for particularly demanding activities with some simple
stretches and even a light cardiovascular warm-up. After all, some minor
household activities are basically workouts, and without a proper
warm-up, older individuals are inviting injury.

3. Exercise together

Exercise
is always important, but it becomes more important with age. Light
cardiovascular exercise is essential, but many older people find it
difficult to keep up with a workout schedule, particularly in the years
after retirement.

Couples who go walking, jogging or biking together
can stay healthy and motivated while getting some quality together time.
Couples should consider joining a gym or spending some time together
outdoors. Before starting any new exercise program, older individuals
should consult their primary care physicians to develop a safe,
low-stress workout plan.
Shattered Paradigmhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15108535580841006211noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8618109818465913923.post-39382577510420787292012-02-14T12:09:00.000-05:002012-02-14T12:09:03.663-05:00Pros And Cons Of Sharing Your Passwords With Your Spouse

Relationships are a special thing. Many people spend the first quarter of their lives looking for someone with whom they can spend the rest of their life. However, many people don't realize what kinds of adjustments they need to make when they enter a serious relationship. One of those adjustments is sharing the things you own.

During the course of your relationship, the issue of password sharing will come up. Your spouse or loved one will undoubtedly hope that you will share your personal information, including your passwords to your accounts. It's important to have a strong password for every account you have, and there is a strong password generator that can help you create them. Nevertheless, your spouse will want to know your password, unless you made previous agreements on the matter. There are pros and cons to sharing your passwords with your spouse. Here is a break down of those pros and cons.

Pros

Increased trust

Sharing your passwords will increase the amount of trust your significant other has for you. Obviously, if you are willing to share your passwords, then you must not have anything to hide. This is especially true for social media accounts, where it is easy to hide messages.

Fewer Misconceptions

If you withhold your password from your loved one, there may be instances where he or she will misinterpret something they see or read. For example, if a friend posts on your Facebook wall something in regards to a private message, your loved one may not fully understand why that person is posting on your wall. Of course, you can always fill in the blanks, but letting your loved one physically see your private messages will further help clear any misconceptions.

Cons

Privacy

Privacy may not be an issue with you, but many people like to have something that they can call their own, especially when they are in a serious relationship. Giving up your password means giving up some of your privacy.

Lack of Trust

One of the pros to sharing your password is increased trust. However, this can also be reversed. If your loved one really wants your password, it may be a sign that he or she does not trust you. You can either be offended or help solidify his or her trust in you by giving your password.

Conclusion

What you decide to do is your choice. Hopefully this article will help you make the right decision.Shattered Paradigmhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15108535580841006211noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8618109818465913923.post-61549643836720562932012-01-09T15:03:00.000-05:002012-01-09T15:03:41.437-05:003 Ways The Internet Can Help Your Marriage

In today's technological world, people have realized their ability to use their creative skills in a completely new way. For example, the Internet alone has redefined the way the world interacts and shares information.

The Internet can also help people with their marriage. I'm sure this is the last thing you thought that the Internet could do. I mean, the Internet is just for blog nerds and social media junkies right? Oh! It's also for people who keep up with current trends and news. Certainly, the Internet can't help people with their marriage.

If you are a doubter, consider these three ways that the Internet can help your marriage.

1. Skype for long distance relationships

If you are one of the millions of people who are in a long distance relationship, then Skype is your answer. Skype is a free program that allows you to make video calls to other Skype users. Of course, there is a premium version that offers more features, but the free version is more than enough. You may be thinking that Skype won't work for you because you are using a cheap Internet service that doesn't have fast downloading speeds. That doesn't matter; Skype works for every kind of Internet service.

Use Skype to feel like you are right next to your love. There is no reason you can't see his or her face. Phone conversations are great, but you also need to see their facial expressions, as well.

2. Sappy love notes on Facebook

Over 800 million people have a Facebook account. There is a good chance that you and your loved one have an account, also. Use Facebook to create those mushy, lovely love letters. You know, the kind of letters you used to write him or her in high school. Getting these love notes in your inbox always makes your day a little better. Your loved one will appreciate that you took your time to write something special.

3. Video diaries

It can be hard to keep that love passion alive, especially in mature relationships. If you ever take your love on a date, make sure you document the moment. Take a video camera, or a digital camera with recording capabilities, with you. Once the night is over, upload the video to your Youtube account. Whenever you feel like your marriage hit a hard spot, watch those videos over and remember the fun times. Sometimes, all it takes is seeing how happy and how much fun the both of you had to rekindle that passion.

These are only three ways the Internet can help your marriage. Ultimately, your imagination and creativity are your limit. There are many ways you can utilize the vast World Wide Web to help you with your marriage. Regardless, the fact that you are actively trying to help your marriage shows that you are a good person with good intentions. Never lose that quality.Shattered Paradigmhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15108535580841006211noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8618109818465913923.post-2746030805076312672011-12-20T14:08:00.000-05:002011-12-20T14:08:02.173-05:003 Phone Tips For Keeping The Romance Alive In Your Relationship

Couples are always finding ways to keep their romance alive. Sometimes, the most unexpected methods work the best, and what is more unexpected than using a cell phone to keep love alive? Even better, almost everyone has a cell phone, since most phone companies offer free phones with new contracts. Indeed, there are many great ways to impress your spouse with a simple cell phone, but here are three of the best ways you can use a cell to keep the sparks sparking.

1. Send love notes in the form of a text

Both men and women love getting cheesy love notes. You can send these love notes to your partner in the form of a text. Now, you may be saying, "my phone only allows me to write a handful of words per text, and I write large love notes." In these instances, you can write your message in parts. When you are finished with one part, save that text in your drafts. Once you write all the parts, send the drafts one right after the other. Your spouse will get the love texts simultaneously.

2. Text them you're thinking of them

Your spouse wants to know that he or she is on your mind. You should always strive to text them to let them know that you are thinking of them. Just a simple text that says, "I'm thinking of you" is enough to keep love alive at times. Those words let your spouse know that you care, and if you certainly care, then shouldn't you let them know?

3. Send photos of what's happening in your day

Working can be tough for couples. If you work a full-time job, your spouse will probably spend their day missing you, wishing that you were there. If you send photos of what's happening during your day, it will help your spouse feel like they are with you. It also helps reassure your spouse that you are where you say you are, thus helping build trust.

Don't let your love slip out of your hands. There are always things you can do to keep love alive. Take these tips and start using them.Shattered Paradigmhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15108535580841006211noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8618109818465913923.post-30013181092148004792011-12-15T14:17:00.000-05:002011-12-15T14:17:54.296-05:003 Reasons Why You Should Cook For Your Wife

If you're like most guys, you probably know a few culinary tricks that you rarely get to use. You may be confident about your ability to make a mean omelet or grill a perfect steak, but you probably only show off your cooking skills a few times a year on special occasions. Your wife, on the other hand, likely turns out dozens of meals a month. There are some good reasons why you should take control of the spatula more often, however.

1. Women love to feel pampered.
You know it's true. Your wife may be a model of efficiency, but she still gets misty-eyed at the thought of being treated like royalty once in a while. Women also love it when you take time and put forth effort to make them happy. Cooking for your wife accomplishes both goals. Sweep your wife off her feet all over again by serving up a meal fit for your queen.

2. She finds you irresistible in an apron.
You probably learned from painful experience that women have different ideas about what constitutes romance than men do. Your wife is likely to be at her most romantic when she is relaxed and feels loved and cared for. There's no better way to make her feel all those things than to cook for her. It just might turn out to be one of the best nights the two of you have ever spent together.

3. The chef picks the menu.
Even the best cooks can fall into a rut sometimes. Your wife may not even realize that you can tell the day of the week just by the smells coming from the kitchen. If the only time you get to eat barbecued brisket is when the BBQ smokers and grills come out during the summer, cooking more often can give you the perfect excuse to serve it more often. When you cook, you get the chance to revisit old favorites and give new tastes a try. You may even inspire your wife to add a few new dishes to her repertoire.

Too often, men fall into the habit of thinking of cooking as something to do only on special occasions. Family meals are an integral part of a strong family's foundation, however, and cooking for your wife sends a clear and unambiguous message that you are committed to her and fully engaged in your life together. It's the truth, after all. Besides, you know how women dig that sort of thing.Shattered Paradigmhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15108535580841006211noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8618109818465913923.post-23961537610696105012011-11-27T22:15:00.002-05:002011-12-19T21:28:20.536-05:00Benefits Of Marriage In A Cancer Crisis

There are many benefits to being married, such as having a person to rely on, care for, converse with, trust, relax with, and support. All these meanings wrapped up in one relationship; create a support system that nobody else can experience. Because of this, married individuals are more likely to beat colon cancer than those who are not married.

Colon cancer is a serious disease. Colon cancer has the ability to present in both men and women. It is presentable in people who are married and individuals who are single. It has affected millions of people each year. In 2008, an estimated 1.24 million new cases of colon cancer were clinically diagnosed. It is the fourth most common type of cancer in the United States that affects both men and women.

Studies show that married individuals who have colon cancer have an eighty-six percent chance of defeating it. That is a fourteen percent lower risk of dying. According to a study from BYU and Penn State University June 21, married couples show that they have a higher chance at surviving colon cancer than a single individual. This was based on a study of more than one hundred-twenty-five, colon patients.

Men and women are more likely to be encouraged to go to a doctor for regular checkups and colon exams if they are married than if they were not married. This is because they have a spouse that is there to remind them that it is very important for them to be getting this treatment. Married individuals are more likely to follow through with treatment because of the loved ones in their life. Because of this and a wonderful support system from their family, they are more likely to follow through with the test and treatment procedures. They are also more likely to pick up prescribed medications for the treatment from their local pharmacy, while single individuals would just go home and think they can get the medication at any time.

According to studies, married cancer patients usually take higher risks when it comes to their care for cancer. These risks include major surgery as well as the necessary treatment required for colon cancer. They tend to make these decisions because they have so much to live for. They have a partner and most times, they choose the higher risk options because they do not want to leave them behind.
However, recent studies conducted on average Americans suggest that being in debt is quickly becoming a normal way of life for many people. In a child's life, he will probably receive a talk from his parents about the importance of only using credit cards in case of an emergency. The parents may also tell their child that he should do everything he can to avoid debt. However, in this recent decade, that mindset has changed.

Indeed, being in debt is almost patriotic to some Americans. It has become a part of the American lifestyle, but not without consequence. Being in debt is still doing much to the average person's temper, like sending many people into anger management classes in Philadelphia, for example, because of creditor harassment and extra charges. However, most people are willing to accept a life in debt.

Most people recognize that they must first become in debt to start to build any kind of acceptable credit. However, others also recognize that this means being in debt for a very long time. Over 25 percent of Americans have a credit score below 599, a score that is nowhere near what is considered a good score.

One woman tried to live a life without credit cards and discovered that she was limited with her options. She discovered that she could not travel without first owning a credit card; she was even denied a cellphone plan. Other people discovered that they were able to receive higher credit limits and even take out mortgages as long as they paid their minimum payments.

It seems that banks are willing to reward responsible credit card holders with a higher credit limit. Of course, many banks are still hesitant to loan money to people with poor credit, though some are willing to loan money with high interest.

It seems that the American way is trending towards a lifestyle that was once greatly frowned upon. As the economy struggles to recover, millions of Americans are accepting their debt and, for some, even becoming proud of it. It is true that you must first be in debt to build credit. However, Americans should do the best they can to climb out of their debt hole.
Shattered Paradigmhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15108535580841006211noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8618109818465913923.post-90302655819680688512011-10-21T04:50:00.000-04:002011-10-21T04:50:36.452-04:00How To Relax When Your Kids Are Driving You Crazy

Parenthood is a state that comes with a divine experience in addition to all the screams and headaches and late nights sit ups and so on. It is true that children are cute and funny but they are naughty and painful too. It is very necessary for the parents, especially the mother to keep herself relaxed while dealing with her child. Relaxing while your child is driving you nuts seems to be impossible but following certain tips given below will definitely help you to relax and spend quality time with your child without frustration and helplessness:

1. First of all you have to be very patient and disciplined. Children learn from their parents very soon. So, follow a routine. Do not give up too fast. To make your stubborn child listen to you will have to be consistent in giving efforts. Do not lose hope so easily. One day you will definitely achieve the skill of controlling the bad behaviour of your kids.

2. Children need their parents’ attention quite often and when they do not get it they feel quite frustrated and do such kind of things which their parents do not like. So, give some time from your busy schedule to your children. Try to understand their needs and desires.

3. Parents always want that their kids should behave like an adult. What they forget here is that kids do not have developed brain power and they cannot distinguish between good and bad. So, try to make them understand what is good and what is bad. Try to explain this to them through stories. As kids love listening to stories, this way can also be better utilized for spending quality time with your kids.

4. Taking short naps with your child will definitely make you feel more relaxed. Moms often think to complete all the chores like laundry, cleaning the house or gardening while her kids are taking some sleep. Remember that work can be finished later. A powerful afternoon nap will let your frustration go away from you and when you get up you will feel more energetic to deal with your kids as well as your household chores.

5. If your kids are behaving very badly and taking the house on storm then one way to stop them is to tell them to help you in some of your work. For example, you can tell your kids to help you in doing laundry by taking clothes from your bedroom to the washing machine or they can help you in gardening by watering the little plants. This way your kids will get engaged in some work and physical strain will tire them. Hence, they will not trouble you while eating and will also go to sleep soon making things better for you.

Shortly, we can say that relaxing while your kids are driving you crazy is not a difficult task. All you need is to apply some common sense and be patient while your efforts show some results. Children need care and love. Give them what they want but in a wise manner to make things easier for you.
What psychologists refer to as “cancer fatalism” actually has an effect on how people view their chances of surviving cancer if they are diagnosed.

People with low socioeconomic status are less likely to get colorectal cancer screenings, yet lack of health care, affordable drugs, or poor health care coverage are not the only reasons. According to the report, published in Cancer Epidemiology, Biomarkers & Prevention, a journal of the American Association for Cancer Research, even economically disadvantaged people with health care, such as those in the United Kingdom where cancer screening and treatment is free, are still less likely to get screened.

Cancer fatalism is the belief that cancer screenings will not help or that cancer will inevitably kill the patients even if they get treatment. As a result, those with lower socioeconomic status often do not go for fecal occult blood testing, a form of colorectal cancer screening even when they have affordable health care.

University of London psychology lecturer Anne Miles and her research team collected data from 529 adults, ages 60 to 69. The study’s surveys asked the participants a series of questions related to their income, their current perception of their own health, and their rate of cancer fatalism.

According to Miles, the findings strongly indicate that money is not the only issue at play. If psychologists can learn to better understand people’s thought process with regards to cancer, Miles believes cancer fatalism can be treated, helping convince those people who need to get screenings to do so.

The American Association for Cancer Research (AACR) is a professional organization committed to the prevention and cure of cancer. To accomplish its goals, the AACR supports research in biomedical science and fosters an environment where scientists can more quickly share new knowledge of prevention, diagnosis, and treatment. Its membership includes more than 33,000 researchers, supporters, health care professionals, and cancer survivors.Shattered Paradigmhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15108535580841006211noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8618109818465913923.post-58517563441448158402011-09-23T18:41:00.000-04:002011-09-23T18:41:04.963-04:00Self-Reliance For The Family

***The following is a guest post for Marriage and Family by The Berkey Guy.
This last weekend we attended the National Self-Reliance Organization’s Semi-annual Expo in Denver, Colorado. It was held at the National Western Complex and accommodated thousands of interested attendees, from near and far. We spoke with dozens of individuals and families who traveled from all over the United States and Canada in order to attend. One of the fascinating aspects of their travels was that they came from varied backgrounds and means. Their interests were also particular, ranging from the following reasons:

Greater urban & rural Self-Reliance

Strengthening their Food Storage & Water Filtration/Purification Preps

Attending the Expert Workshops including Dave Canterbury of the Discovery Channel’s hit show Dual Survival, The Survival Podcast‘s Jack Spirko, Doom & Bloom’s Dr. Bones & Nurse Amy, and many, many more!

Meeting with National Geographic and The Discovery Channel for possible T.V. appearances

To enjoy the company of many, many like-minded folk from all over the USA.

We thoroughly enjoyed meeting with so many of you and appreciate your support at the Expo and Online. We were happy to give away more than $2,000 worth of Berkey Water Purification Products as well as other preparedness items we carry. We showcased our newest addition, The Country Living Grain Mill and hundreds of adults and children were able to try their hand at milling hard-red wheat the easy way with that mill.
The most significant value of attending the Expo was our ability to connect and begin relationships with the attendees and the exhibitors, and to strengthen existing relationships with like-minded folk. Some of the exhibitors we really enjoyed were:

“You can be anything you want to be as a woman…except submissive”

Since Michele Bachmann stated that she submitted to her husband’s desire to go back to school for accounting, a firestorm of debate has started, as to what this idea of submission means.

On one side, you have your Christian conservative women who mostly understand what it means, biblically, for wives to submit to their husbands as the head of the household. On the other side, (the far left side) liberal women have all but asked for Michele’s burning at the stake, arguing that, by listening to her husband, she has somehow put the women’s liberal movement back to the stone ages.

I suspect that much of this controversy revolves around the fact that many women have a distorted understanding of what it means to submit to their husbands. Over the decades, society has done a great job of twisting the meaning of the word so that the concept of submitting to your husband has almost become synonymous with worshiping or being enslaved to one's husband.

The feminist movement has obliterated the concept of the man leading the family, to the point that most marriage vows do not contain this type of language anymore. You can hear feminist women, everywhere, boldly standing up and saying,” no one’s going to tell me what to do--not even my husband!” How wrong the feminists are and how the family unit has suffered for their prideful lies.

The idea of there only being one leader in the household, is not just biblical, it logical. You simply can't run a successful organization, of any type, with two people in charge. You'll never see a corporation with two CEOs, a major league baseball team with two head coaches, a nation with two presidents or a universe with two Gods. It just doesn't work.

In the case of marriage, if one person has not been designated as the leader, indecision over a situation can quickly lead to temporary paralysis, or even worse, a tearing apart of the marriage. When a husband and wife have different ideas as to which direction to go in, there are only three options; they go his way, her way or they go their separate ways. They can't go both ways. Ultimately, someone has to submit to the other's direction. In the case of marriage, God calls for the woman to be that person.

Women that believe in the ultimate authority of the God of the Bible understand what it means, that the husband is the head of their partnership. Submission is not demanded by the husband; it is willingly given. If it is demanded by the husband, it is no longer biblical submission, it is abuse.

Perhaps unintentionally, but the feminist movement has created many more questions for women than they have given answers. What used to be simple questions for women about dating or marriage are now conundrums. For example, “Do I let him pay for the meal or should I? Should I wait for him to open my car door or will it make me look weak? Can I call him or will that make me appear too aggressive? Do I work or do I stay home with the kids? Do I need to do what my husband asks?” These questions may have been asked in the past, but the answers may not have been as muddled as they are today.

The answers used to be clear,” Yes, he should pay and open the doors; it is a sign of respect. No, you wait for him to call you; it is a sign that you were raised to be courted and respectful of yourself. If you choose to have kids and the means to stay at home, you should, even if it means you have to make sacrifices to do so. There is no other job more important than raising the future generation; and no one can do it better than the child's mother.”

Part of being a God-honoring man means taking his call as a husband seriously. He understands God's law to love his wife as Christ loved the Church, (Christ loved the Church so much he ultimately died for it). If he does not take his role as the head of the household seriously the Bible says the husband will not have his prayers answered. The husband understands that, ultimately he will have to stand in front of God, explaining why the marriage ended and/or why he treated his wife so poorly.

When God was creating the world, the only time he said “this is not good” was when man was alone. The man needed a suitable helper and woman was man’s gift from God. Wives are to help their husbands in every way and be his equal (suitable). We do our husbands an equal disservice when we play a passive role in the marriage, just as much as when we try to overpower them.

The husband is to be the head of the household spiritually and physically. The husband must step up and not leave it to the wife to take over. Part of the sin punishment for Adam, and ultimately every man, was his twisted desire to rule over the wife and failing by either abusing that power or by refusing to take it seriously. For Eve, and every woman thereafter, part of the sin punishment was the twisted desire to rule over our husbands, often by believing he is too incompetent to lead a family.

When a decision needs to be made, the husband is to be the ultimate authority, only after listening and praying with his helper wife. Jesus submitted to God’s will after he went to God with his prayers. God and Jesus worked in perfect union, each knowing that the other had nothing but the other's best interest in mind. That is the union that a husband and wife should emulate.

We, as wives, are called to submit to our husband’s leadership, just like Christ submitted to God. Ultimately, our husbands are called to love us like Christ loved the Church. The key ingredient for this to work perfectly is the husband’s role to truly love his wife, which is so infinitely harder than the wives role to submit. However, in the end, submission becomes the manifestation of the wife’s love for her husband. The truth is, how hard is it to submit to love? This is what the feminist movement failed to realize. By submitting to love, there is no greater display of our femininity. The feminist movement has turned this beautiful marriage relationship on it head and, in turn, has left women’s heads spinning.

“Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails.”
(1 Corinthians 13:4-8)

Many kept a wary eye on Bill S.510 and were cautiously relieved when it looked like the Bill was quashed by the something extra attached to it-new taxes. That maneuver was against the rules. But nothing ventured, nothing gained...

Some remained diligent even though it appeared the Food Safety Act Bill had died a natural death. They were right to practice due diligence! The bill was tucked away in a nearly impossible to fail Veteran's benefits bill. Of course it did! What heartless person on the hill would consider voting down a bill that would negatively impact our brave men who were half way around the globe fighting a war?
It didn't hurt when the sponsors of the bill voted on it in the dead of night.
That's been a trick used for quite some time now that rarely fails.

If you haven't heard of S.510, the Food Safety Act Bill, let me explain. Many were warning of the dire potential with this bill, namely control of small organic growers. The concern was these growers would be forced to carry exorbitant insurance which would put them out of business. Another concern was handing the government the newfound ability to regulate sales of organically grown fruits and vegetables by regulating whom a grower can sell to.

Let's investigate that.

You're visiting your son in Napa valley. You pass a fruit stand that has the most succulent, red cherries on display. You turn in to their lot, grab your pocket book to fish out a $10 bill, and climb out of your rental car to approach the vendor.

"I'll take two pounds of your organic cherries, please,” You say.

"Of coarse," replies the balding man. "May I see you ID, please?"

You look to your hand to be sure you're still clasping the $10 bill you grabbed form your wallet. Yep, the $10 was there, clearly viable.

"I'm paying with cash," you say kindly. Maybe the poor guy'd gotten too much sun out in the back 40 that morning...

"You don't understand. The Food Safety Act requires that I only sell to folks within a 100 mile radius. With purchases, I need to write down ID and turn it in with my monthly report," he explains with a frown.

"But I live in Rhode Island..."

"Wished I could sell 'em to you, but I have to follow the rules," says the man, his frown now creasing his weathered face.

Your small transaction for a simple bag of cherries that failed is now in the hands of yet another new government entity.

But what if it got worse?

Many who watchdog the inroads made into our private business, like putting food on the table, are concerned the Food Safety Act Bill Act has the potential to control heirloom and heritage seed sales and what we plant in our gardens. Apparently, the brave folks in Sedgwick Main are believers!

They recently passed an ordinance that enforced their God given right to produce, process, sell, purchase and consume local foods to their choosing, including state and federally regulated foods like raw milk.

Other towns are looking into doing something similar to protect the sovereignty of their food. Should this take off, it will send a clear message to the Hill that as a people, we intend to keep the right to grow what we want, buy what we want, and eat what we want without having the government act as our caretakers.

If there was an unexpected emergency, do you have a 72-hour emergency kit in your car that will get you home safely? And when you arrive is there enough food, water and medical supplies to see you and your loved ones past a short-term or long-term crisis? If the answer is no, Survival Diva offers common sense, drama-free advice on bullets, bandages and food storage that won't break the bank!
CNN is reporting that the U.S. Department of Defense is acknowledging that its investigators failed to check thoroughly to see whether or not its employees were on a list of suspected purchasers of dirty child pictures. In fact, it has now come out that there could be thousands of individuals still working for the Pentagon that have purchased these materials and that government investigators have been sitting on this information for years....

How sick is our country becoming? The truth is that it is becoming more difficult than ever to maintain a Christian marriage and raise a Christian family in a society that is absolutely soaking with sin.

Sadly, we all probably underestimate the amount of sin that is going on out there today. Moral depravity is absolutely rampant in our communities today, and it is getting worse every single year.

But the Scriptures warned us that this would happen in the last days. In 2 Timothy chapter 3, it tells us the following....

This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.

Doesn't that sound just like today?

Unfortunately, wickedness is only going to increase even more until Yahshua (Jesus) returns to this earth.

So buckle up because it is going to be a bumpy ride.
If so, what do you think about them? Did anyone in your family have to be subjected to the new "enhanced pat-downs"? The truth is that there are really good reasons why so many Americans are getting so angry about these new security procedures. If you want to get on an airplane in the United States today, you either have to allow gawking security officials look at your completely exposed body using the new full body security scanners, or you have to let allow a security official to grope and feel up every inch of your body. Yes, including "those" parts. You may not object to this kind of search, but how would you feel about your wife or teenage daughter or young son being touched on the private areas by complete strangers?

Fortunately, many people are now speaking out about this outrage. Some Americans are even using comedy and humor to fight back. For example, the video posted below is a great parody but it also makes some very serious points. The video was produced by Buck Howdy and it is entitled "Help You Make It To Your Flight". It is a takeoff on Kris Kristofferson's classic hit "Help Me Make It Through The Night". Howdy's "revised lyrics" are so hilarious that more than two million people have watched it so far on YouTube.
The full lyrics of "Help You Make it to Your Flight" are posted below....

Take the ribbon from your hair
Shake it loose and let it fall
Leave your shoes right over there
Now get up against the wall

I'll run my hands inside your thighs
Up your legs and out of sight!
But you can trust the TSA
To help you make it to your flight

We don't profile that'd be wrong
Just ask the ACLU
We'd rather check your nooks and crannies
Every inch of you

Got no life except my job
But I don't mind it's all right
I get to grope you legally
If you want to take a flight

This badge and uniform we wear
Might look like a rent a cop
But your life is in our hands
We like it that way, especially if you're hot

Awful lonely being me
No girlfriend, boyfriend, husband, wife
So let me squeeze you, oooh, right there
If you want to take a flight

You can trust the TSA
You'll be in our dreams tonight

It is good to see the American people standing up like this. We should not have to be sexually groped before we get on an airplane.

If you want to send a message that you do not like to be groped by TSA agents or anyone else, then we would encourage you to check out the new line of "Don't Touch My Junk" clothing available on Amazon.com.
Cody made headlines around the world recently when an official at Denair Middle School ordered him to take down the American flag on the back of his bike while he was on school property. The school official was concerned that other students would be offended by the American flag.

Well, you can only imagine what happened once the national media got a hold of that story. A 13-year-old kid that can't ride his bike to school with an American flag?

The national outrage was justifiable and the outpouring of support for Cody was beyond what anyone could imagine.

As Cody rode his bike to school on Monday, not only was his family there, but he was escorted by hundreds of other bikes and motorcycles. After arriving at school, the news media was there to cover the whole thing and Cody and his patriotic escort recited the Pledge of Allegiance and the National Anthem. It was a very, very emotional day for everyone involved, and it showed that there are still some Americans out there that are willing to stand up for the American flag.

Posted below is a video news report about Monday's extraordinary events....

Fortunately, Cody's story has a very happy ending. The school has changed its mind and now Cody can ride to school every day proudly displaying his American flag.

There is a good chance that you have probably never even heard of this incredibly obscure holiday. So when is Sweetest Day 2010? Well, it turns out that it falls on October 16th this year. So what exactly are we supposed to be celebrating? The "official website" for this holiday describes it the following way....

"Sweetest Day is celebrated each year on the third Saturday of October. Although often thought of by many as a second Valentine’s Day, Sweetest Day is actually a day meant to celebrate all the people who make your life special. It’s an occasion to make someone happy, a chance to celebrate and give gifts to relatives, friends, and associates.

Sweetest Day was founded around 1922 in Cleveland, Ohio by Herbert Birch Kingston who was a local candy company employee. Kingston sought to bring cheer and some happiness to the lives of those who were often forgotten. With the help of his friends, he began distributing candy and small gifts to children living in orphanages, those stricken with illness or disabilities, shut-ins, and others who were forgotten."

So basically we are supposed to be nice to everyone.

But shouldn't we be doing that every day?

The truth is that every day is a good day to celebrate the people that make our lives special. Every day is a good day to focus on marriage and family. Every day is a good day to try to love others more.

So please feel free to celebrate Sweetest Day 2010, but don't forget to be sweet and loving on all of the other days of the year too.

If you are looking for a gift to give a loved one on Sweetest Day 2010, Amazon.com actually has a really wide selection of gifts available for this holiday.
It Is Because The United States Is Being Deindustrialized On PurposeMillions upon millions of Americans have lost their jobs in the last few years. Millions upon millions of Americans have lost their homes or have gone bankrupt. Millions upon millions of Americans are trying desperately to hold their marriage and family together.

But even though millions of Americans are suffering tremendously right now, most of them have absolutely no idea that all of this has been planned.

That's right.

There are some very rich and very powerful people that wish to see the United States deindustrialized on purpose.

If you don't believe this, just check out the quotes below....

*****

“If we don’t overthrow capitalism, we don’t have a chance of
saving the world ecologically. I think it is possible to have
an ecologically sound society under socialism. I don’t think it is possible under capitalism”

- Judi Bari,
principal organizer of Earth First!

*****

“Isn’t the only hope for the planet that the
industrialized civilizations collapse?
Isn’t it our responsiblity to bring that about?”

- Maurice Strong,
founder of the UN Environment Program

*****

“A massive campaign must be launched to de-develop the
United States. De-development means bringing our
economic system into line with the realities of
ecology and the world resource situation.”

- Paul Ehrlich,
Professor of Population Studies

*****

“The only hope for the world is to make sure there is not another
United States. We can’t let other countries have the same
number of cars, the amount of industrialization, we have in the US.
We have to stop these Third World countries right where they are.”

- Michael Oppenheimer,
Environmental Defense Fund

*****

“Global Sustainability requires the deliberate quest of poverty,
reduced resource consumption and set levels of mortality control.”

- Professor Maurice King

*****

“We must make this an insecure and inhospitable place
for capitalists and their projects. We must reclaim the roads and
plowed land, halt dam construction, tear down existing dams,
free shackled rivers and return to wilderness
millions of acres of presently settled land.”

- David Foreman,
co-founder of Earth First!

*****

“Complex technology of any sort is an assault on
human dignity. It would be little short of disastrous for us to
discover a source of clean, cheap, abundant energy,
because of what we might do with it.”
But is that anywhere even close to true anymore? Sure, the majority of Americans still consider themselves to have a "Christian" label, but the percentage of people in the United States who identify themselves as Christians is falling rapidly, and other religions are experiencing tremendous growth.

Take Islam for example. The controversy over the "ground zero mosque" in New York City is just the latest example of how prominent Islam has become in America. The truth is that the number of mosques in America has increased by more than 50 percent over the last ten years.

Not only that, but Barack Obama actually recently hosted an iftar — the special evening meal observed during Ramadan — on a Friday night in the White House dining room.

In fact, many are questioning why Barack Obama keeps saying so many good things about Islam, and yet insists on saying so many bad things about Christianity.

But Islam is not that only religion that is growing in America. Wicca, paganism, witchcraft, Buddhism and a vast array of New Age cults are experiencing explosive growth.

The reality is that it is not going to get any easier to maintain a godly marriage and family in America. False religions are all around us now and their influence is growing.

During times like these, it will be imperative for all of us to draw closer to God.
Unfortunately, scenes like what he describes are being repeated across the United States as the economy crumbles. Millions of marriges and families are at the breaking point right now as they deal with very difficult economic circumstances. If you have a similar report, please leave it as a comment at the end of the article....

It had been about five years since we were last here. As we drove the two miles down on North Main Street towards an Osterville restaurant, I observed a distressing sign (or actually MANY signs). The high-end houses and estates-NOT beach houses or bungalows- were up for sale. The number of FOR SALE signs (16 of them!) in just two miles was very unusual for this area and for its type of residents; full time residence homes with expensive lush green yards and some with wrought iron security fencing. The preeminent high end realtor-Sotheby’s International Realty- was found amongst the majority of properties listed on this two mile street. Only one property listed for sale was a newly build house and one other was a business for sale (a financial firm office building). But, as we explored other streets and roadways in the Hyannis, Barnstable, Centerville area, many other realtor signs or closed businesses were present. One facility up for sale that was not far from our hotel was a time share housing complex lying just across the street from the beach. Speaking of hotels; most that we observed on the busy Route 28 and Route 6 highways, were displaying VACANCY signs; unusual for the peak vacation season in mid-July.These views spoke reams to me. The finances of many-upper class- to middle class- were suffering amidst this “Great Recession” (aka “Great Depression”). The tax base and financial base were crumbling in synchrony with the financial problems experienced across the state of Massachusetts. Here, the casualties were the many hard working individuals and the related industries and businesses dependent on not merely the tourist vacation dollars, but the demand for local arts, seafood industries, and local cuisines.Sadly, this is one report of many across our nation; but, seeing it close up makes me think that the slowing of the economy (or decent into the abyss-if you wish) is merely one aspect of this sad vacation scene. Rather, for high income and middle class residents, it is the loss of property value; the collapse of bank loans and liquidation at cut rate prices of long time family held properties and business assets; as well as the loss of value of locally produced products and goods as the consumer (or tourist) demand evaporates. Many will suffer as the economy continues to contract and the hard earned labors and properties will evaporate into the vacuum of economic misery.

Food for thought.
