I can understand the use for this, but these days I try to add new options only if really necessary (given that tt-rss has a bad case of too many options already) and I'm not particularly sure one more checkbox in feed options dialog is needed that much.

Don't do that. If you want to save articles for posterity, star them. They will be archived automatically when you unsubscribe from the feeds where they were published.

Yeah, looks like there is a different problem. If you look at the XML, you'll notice that all the articles in the feed have the same link and no other GUID specified. Which is why tt-rss considers all articles the same (since link is one of the fallback unique article identifiers).

So, in this case, the problem lies with the horribly broken feed, not FeedBurner. Unfortunately, I'm afraid there is little do be done here (by design there should be some unique article identifier in the feed, tt-rss can't start creating them arbitrarily because that would open a whole new world of article duplicates), except for maybe commenting to the site owner that their news feed is a crime against common sense.

I'm not so sure about your database being corrupted. The error is a Javascript-related one and probably indicates that Scriptaculous is either broken or not included properly by tt-rss.php (since Sortable is the class defined there, in lib/scriptaculous/dragdrop.js). That is, unless you actually can't see the feedlist or see broken markup.

Try temporarily switching to an empty database, importing your feeds and checking whether the problem would persist.

The option was defined as true in config.php. I'm certain that I didn't change it when I upgraded, I merely took my pre-existing config.php, verified that there were no missing new options, and copied it into place.

sanity_check.php thinks my config.php does not exist

I think it is only used in debug() for cosmetic reasons, so you can safely disable it.

I often share items, and lately I've gotten into the habit of adding a note to shared items. I wasn't completely happy with how the notes were displayed in the Shared Items feed, though. Instead of a little yellow box, I'd like notes to replace the entire item description.

Luckily, that is very easy to do.

Open functions.php, scroll down to line 3667, and replace

with

Now, if an item has a note, only the note will be displayed. If there's no note, it'll show the item content like it used to do.

Ideally, this would be controlled by a preference somewhere (so that you don't have to re-apply the patch after updating), but I haven't looked into that yet. For now, this suits my need.

They way plugins worked in Feed on Feeds (another reader I tried briefly before I know about TT-RSS) was pretty simple, IIRC. When rendering each item, there was this little "hook", where registered plugins could have a function called with the current item as parameter, or they had access to the item data in some way. Output was redirected to a special spot near the item.

Is this exploitable? Yes. Will badly written plugins eat the system and take a dump on your chest? Yes. Was it easy to write plugins? You betcha!

So that system would require three parts:

In the frontend: the code to figure out which plugins to run, and to run them for each displayed item
In the frontend: the code to display the output that the plugins generate
In the backend: a way to figure out if there are plugins, and maybe a way to enable/disable them. However, personally I'd be cool with the simple yet effective system of "all plugins are active; remove the plugin file to disable it". =]

It may not be the cleanest, user-friendliest system around, but it gets the job done and it beats mucking around in the core scripts.

The only file I've edited is config.php and there doesn't appear to be any extra spaces that could break things in the file.
I just tested this by making a new config.php file after coping it from config.php-dist file and entering the database details but the problem remains.

Тут всё просто. Модуль маленький, скажем даже - небольшой. Который можно дописать и подключить туда получение статистики. И я бы хотел заняться оптимизацией запросов именно с него. В порядок просто привести.

А проблема с функциями2 - она есть.

Alright, I'm getting tired of repeating myself, so I'm creating this thread. Any questions about this specific error should go here. Please don't create bugtracker tickets or other forum threads on the subject before you have read and understood this information since they are going to get locked.

To reiterate, this topic is about this error:

Q: What does this error mean?

A: In the nutshell, it means that for some reason tt-rss frontend (the client-side part) couldn't parse the XML object returned by the backend (the server-side part) on the request to load feed headlines.

Q: Why does this error get special treatment?

A: Because I'm tired of explaining how to debug it. Also, loading headlines is one of the most common and, unfortunately, error-prone operations in tt-rss.

Q: So, why does this happen?

A: This could be caused by a variety of reasons. Three most probable are: 1) Server-side problem; 2) Client-side problem; 3) Bug in tt-rss.

1) Server-side problem. Basically, this means that something on the server prevents tt-rss from working properly. This could be caused by wrong settings in tt-rss' config.php, some PHP modules missing, incompatible PHP built options, or something else entirely. We'll get back to debugging this later. I'd like to notice that people seem to go to frightening lengths to break tt-rss. For example, recently I had a "bug report" from a guy who didn't copy all the new files when upgrading to the new version. One would think this sort of thing would be obvious, but alas.

2) Client-side problem. This means your browser. For example, some browser extensions prevents xml-http requests tt-rss makes from completing normally (Hello, Firebug!) or just plainly fucks with the Javascript code (Hello again, Firebug!). Maybe you got cookies disabled because you are afraid of aliens conspiring against you through delicious cookies. To debug this, try loading tt-rss in a blank browser profile and/or browser safe mode of some sort without extensions and plugins.

3) A bug in tt-rss. Usually this causes a server-side problem, so the steps to debug this are the same as 1).

Q: How do I debug a potential server-side problem?

A: Easy. First of all, figure out which feed can't get loaded. That should be written in the error message near the top of the Additional information box. In the attached screenshot, this is feed -3 (Fresh articles).

Then, try loading the feed in the browser (preferably, Firefox) manually, like this:

Then you should see whether the XML received is actually there and valid. If it is valid, then you are experiencing a client-side problem. Most probably, it won't be, so you'll see something like this:

Then, you figure out what exactly is broken. You can view source and go manually checking tags, you can try saving the file and loading it in some sort of XML parsing program, or you can just scroll right:

Oh look, what's that "ONOZ <" doing in there? It really shouldn't be there. That's not valid XML, is it? Turns out, I have added this to backend.php to make all the pretty screenshots:

Well, looks like it's valid now.

This was, naturally, just an example. Usually you will see some sort of SQL query error, parse error, or some other sort of error in the broken XML. Do accordingly or, if you don't know what to do, post your error in this thread and we'll help you figure it out.
