     <p>is a writer using both fiction and non-fiction to explore issues around culture, technology, and the future.</p>
            
     
     <p>After a decade of writing critically acclaimed short fiction his debut novel <a href="https://us.macmillan.com/books/9780374175412/infinitedetail" target="_blank">INFINITE DETAIL</a> was published by FSG in 2019, selected by <a href="https://www.theguardian.com/books/2019/nov/30/best-science-fiction-and-fantasy-books-of-2019" target="_blank">The Guardian as their Science Fiction and Fantasy book of the year</a>, and shortlisted for the <a href="https://locusmag.com/2020/06/locus-awards-winners-2020/" target="_blank">Locus Magazine Award for Best First Novel</a>.</p>
<p>He also writes for TV and film, including being a story producer and writer for the <a href="https://ew.com/awards/emmys/2023-daytime-emmy-nominations/" target="_blank">Emmy nominated</a> Netflix show <a href="https://www.netflix.com/title/81123425" target="_blank">The Future Of</a>, which he also appeared in. He frequently collaborates with artists and filmmakers, and has written screenplays for short movie projects by <a href="https://www.arch.columbia.edu/exhibitions/51-liam-young-new-romance" target="_blank">Liam Young</a>, <a href="https://superflux.in/index.php/work/the-intersection/">Superflux</a>, and <a href="https://www.screeningsurveillance.com/">Screening Surveillance</a>. His work has been shown at the V&A, <a href="https://www.arch.columbia.edu/exhibitions/51-liam-young-new-romance">Columbia School of Architecture</a>, <a href="https://superflux.in/index.php/work/how-will-we-work/">the Vienna Biennale</a>, and on <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cXfYyk0G5Hs">Channel 4 TV in the UK</a>.</p> 
<p>His non-fiction writing and analysis has been published by the BBC, Esquire, <a href="https://www.technologyreview.com/author/tim-maughan/">MIT Technology Review</a>, <a href="https://www.newscientist.com/author/tim-maughan/">New Scientist</a> and <a href="https://www.vice.com/en/contributor/tim-maughan">Vice</a>, and has included in-person reporting from <a href="https://www.bbc.com/future/article/20150209-the-network-that-runs-the-world">massive container ships</a> and <a href="https://www.vice.com/en/article/ypw8ww/beyond-foxconn-inside-shenzhen-the-worlds-gadget-factory">factories in China</a>, alongside features and commentary on subjects as varied as <a href="https://www.esquire.com/style/mens-fashion/a40803280/metaverse-fashion/">fashion in the Metaverse</a> and the <a href="https://onezero.medium.com/the-modern-world-has-finally-become-too-complex-for-any-of-us-to-understand-1a0b46fbc292">political impacts of large, complex systems</a>. In 2015 he was the receiver of the <a href="https://seahorseclub.co.uk/2015-awards-2/">Seahorse Award for Supply Chain Journalist of the Year</a>.</p> 
<p>Tim also runs a consultancy practice where he uses fiction to help organisations and companies think and talk critically about the future, issues like climate change, and emerging technologies such as AI and augmented/virtual reality. Clients include the <a href="https://www.who.int/publications/i/item/9789240052093">World Health Organization</a>, IKEA, Volkswagen, <a href="https://www.arup.com/perspectives/publications/research/section/2050-scenarios-four-plausible-futures">ARUP</a>, and Canvas8.</p>
<p>Over the last decade Tim has been invited to speak at various events and conferences, including presentations and readings at <a href="https://montreal.mutek.org/en/speakers/tim-maughan">MUTEK</a>, Princeton, <a href="https://www.resite.org/speakers/tim-maughan">reSITE</a>, <a href="https://www.amsterdam-dance-event.nl/en/artists-speakers/tim-maughan/24605/">Amsterdam Dance Event</a>, the <a href="https://tcij.org/person/tim-maughan/">Centre for Investigative Journalism</a>, <a href="https://datasociety.net/library/the-hidden-network-that-keeps-the-world-running/">Data and Society</a>, <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kvpI6itVMZ8">Theorizing The Web</a>, and the <a href="https://www.filba.org.ar/filba-internacional/festival-internacional-2022_120/participantes/maughan-tim_1600">Filba literary festival</a> in Buenos Aires.</p>
