Watercoloring with Matte Fluid Medium & Watercolor Pencils

I've been playing around with this Liquitex Matte Fluid Medium and it is so useful in so many ways! Yesterday I discovered you can use it to watercolor instead of using water!! WHAT??? Yes, and when you use it on your bible pages you won't get wrinkles or pages curls! Here is how I did it! (I would have taken more pics if I'd have known this was gonna work so great! But I'll do it again!)

Normally, if you want to do any "watercoloring" on your thin bible pages you need to lay down a full coat of something like gesso, matte gel medium or the fluid medium and then put your color on top of that! Well, I may have found a way to lay down your color first and then use your medium last!

First of all I drew my image with my waterproof pen! Then I colored my image with my Derwent Inktense watercolor pencils. Any watercolor pencils will do! The inktense are just so vibrant! A note on coloring with the pencils, color lightly where you want the color lighter and color heavy where you want it darker.

Next step is the fun part! I got a bottle cap and added 3 drops of Liquitex Fluid Matte Medium, then I added 2 squirts of water from my mini mister. This stuff goes a looooong way and even 3 drops was more than enough for these small items to paint. I got a small paintbrush and mixed the water in really good. Then started painting. When painting start in the the lighter areas and work your way into the darker areas. If you start in the darker areas and go towards the lighter areas you will pull the dark in and cover up your lighter areas. So be sure to start in the lighter areas first!! After dry, the last step was using my white gel pen to make some dots in the middle of the flowers! All done!! Be sure it is completely dry before you close your bible!

I plan to do more experimenting with this technique with fuller coverage of color first then fluid medium last! When I do I'll take more pics, or even do a video, if you don't mind my terrible southern accent. (I'm trying to get over that fear!)

Ephesians 4:32 Be Kind to One Another - Colored Pencil Bunny & Ducky

Ephesians 4:32 Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you.

Ephesians is full of beautiful verses about love, so many artful images come to mind when ready through this book. Not long ago I came across this image of a loving bunny and duck from a Little Golden Book story and I just thought it would be perfect for this verse!

I drew these little guys freehand just looking at the image while riding in the car (my favorite traveling pass time)! I used my Prismacolor watercolor pencils, but I did NOT use any water here.

I really love vintage images and art so I think you'll be seeing a lot more of this style coming from me!

How to paint fast & loose watercolor flowers with Distress Inks

How to paint fast & loose watercolor flowers, for people who don't paint!! Seriously, anyone can do this! With basic shapes and simple swishes of your brush you can create these fun and whimsical flowers in no time! They are not perfect and the best part is.... they don't have to be! I made another video for you! Please bare with me as I'm still learning this video tutorial stuff!

Here is a sneak peek of my video camera setup! I'm using the top of my Distress Ink pad spinner along with my gorilla tripod to wrap the legs around it to hold it on! I really need to come up with a better plan. Is there anyone out there with some tips for me?

Psalms 103 Bless the Lord, O my Soul - Bible Journaling with colored pencils

Distress Ink Watercolor Fawn Video Tutorial

My first ever video tutorial!! I wasn't brave enough to talk through it (yet) so I played some happy music and displayed tips on screen. I painted a cute little fawn with a pretty pink background! I wanted to keep it simple to see how it would go!! I admit, it was kinda fun!!

I'd like to ask your opinion on video editing software (for Windows 7). I used the free Windows Movie Maker software to make this video, but I feel like it was limited in it's features. What's your favorite video software? I'd like to do some investigating and find something new!

Bible Journaling - Free download - Genesis 1:24 - Living Creatures

Genesis 1:24 And God said, let the earth bring forth living creatures according to their kinds.

I found this adorable photo of these two sibling foxes in a 2015 Audubon calender. So full credit for photo goes to them and their photographer Daniel M. Jones.
So often, for Genesis 1, we see the world shape. I wanted to focus on a different verse and when I read verse 24 I knew I wanted to draw some cute animals! =)

To start I traced the basic outline of the foxes and the main lines such as the eyes, nose, mouth. All the fur outlines I drew afterwards. For this project I started with a sheet of graphite paper and my drawing (you will be using the PDF I've made for you) Turn to your bible page and place your graphite sheet face down and make sure it stays in place. After you have cut your image out from your PDF file then use some washi tape to tape your image to the back of your graphite paper.

Then begin to trace your image. I find that a ball point pen works best. You can also use a different color pen to see where you have already drawn.

Here is my finished drawing. You can also trace the verse words in the same way at this time if you wish.

Here are a couple of the colored pencils that I used. 2 browns and a gray/black.

I used the photo as my guide for color!

I usually like to start with the eyes!

Then filled in some darks.

Then started in on some earthy browns.

I used a fine pen to swish on some wiskers!

I used some white acrylic paint and a tiny paintbrush to add some highlights in places.

This is where I drew on the verse words.

Then I went over it with my drawing pens.

Colored in some letters and used a metallic pen on the word GOD.

Under His Wings - Psalms 91:4 - Bible Journaling Tutorial and Free Download

Psalms 91:4 He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.

What a comfort this verse is. I wanted to make some large majestic golden wings over these pages.

I knew I was going to be using some watercolor pencils so I started with some Medium Matte Gel. I love this stuff cause it dries clear! Of course you can also use Gesso! (Gesso is available in White, Black and Clear). I put a piece of paper below each of my pages to protect the pages below.

You have a few choices for what kind of texture you want.

You can use a credit card or membership card to spread the Gel over your pages. This will give you a more bumpy texture with ridges here and there.

You can also use a make up sponge for a smoother texture. Or, you can use one of the craft sponge paintbrushes. It won't be perfectly smooth, but pretty close. If I were using the Gel or Gesso on a more durable surface and wanted it super smooth I would sand it with super fine grit sandpaper or sanding block. But that is not recommended for your bible pages at this point (until I try it and see how my pages hold up)!! =)

After your Gel or Gesso has dried, put your printed image below the page and you can still see clearly enough to trace your image.

Next, use your favorite waterproof pen and trace your images!

I started coloring in my feathers with Distress Ink Wild Honey. I left the tips empty to fill them in with Mustard Seed.

Coloring on top of Gel is a bit different if you haven't done this before. Your color kind of "floats" on the surface. It doesn't exactly blend like you might be used to.

I used Distress Ink Rusty Hinge to fill in some of the shadows. Then used a paper tortillon to kind of smear it in together. A paper tortillon is just paper that is rolled up really tightly into a point, great for smooshing and blending! =) You can find them in the art section at Hobby Lobby, I've seen them in Walmart's art section too.

Here are my finished feathers!

Then finally, I wanted to give them a hazy pink aura, so I colored around it with my pink watercolor pencil and blended it in with my damp brush. I really like how these wings turned out!

DIY Distress Ink Pad Storage Spinner Tutorial!

Not long ago I got heavily back into my watercolor painting again! I really enjoy the art journaling and recently the Bible Journaling! Through finding inspiration for watercolor on Pinterest, I discovered how some people used their distress ink pads and markers for traditional watercoloring! I was very intrigued! I did more research and discovered several artists who are especially good at this! I'll list them in a bit. Now I have all of the ink pads and all of the markers!! Up until the writing of this post, the 1st 3 months of the 2015 colors have been released!! A while back I wrote a post about how I'm storing all my art pens, pencils, markers, etc. But I needed a really great & compact way to store my ink pads! So, of course, I head over to Pinterest and go on the hunt for DIY Distress Pad Storage! I saw lots of good ideas, but the one I liked the best was made by Jenny Potter over at Jens Joint. It was just the one I wanted! So I downloaded her PDF of supplies and measurements. I did have to make several changes b/c her spinner went 11 shelves high and I needed mine to go 16 shelves high in order to accommodate all of the 2015 releases. But my individual slots are the same size as hers. Also, being that it is considerably higher I was concerned about it being top heavy & wobbly so I added some reinforcement pieces to handle the height. I'll explain more below. I also added a velcro feature to hold my sponge blenders too! Jenny did a video series for her spinner I think there are 5 parts that she recorded live as she built her spinner. The last one shows her assembly process. It was very helpful.

To start, I followed Jenny's supply sheet and I made 64 of these little slots, cut from 12x12 black medium weight chipboard. They are cut 8 1/2" long by 2 5/8" wide. Then scored at 1" - 4 1/4" - 5 1/4". Next, from black cardstock I cut 64 hinges at 1" by 2 1/2". Then scored down the long middle at 1/2". After scoring everything I glued the hinges on and then started gluing the columns together 16 high. I used clips to hold them together tightly until they dried. (clipped on both sides). The shelves look a little wobbly after glued together but they will straighten up after we add the side panels.

Here I assemble my interior side panels. They go on the inside and won't be showing so no need to cover these in pretty paper. These pieces are all 2 5/8" wide. The long piece of chipboard is 12" tall (which is the tallest size possible). So I had to add another piece of chipboard that was about 5 1/4" tall and glue them together so that the piece would be as tall as my columns, which is about 17" tall. The 4 bottom left pieces are black cardstock and I use them to help secure the 2 pieces of chipboard together. You'll need a total of 8 of these panels. 4 for the inside and 4 for the outside.

I glued the 2 pieces together end to end. DO NOT overlap. Get glue on the very ends. And press together.

Next, I glued the smaller hinge on top and did the same on the other side.

Then I glued the larger hinge on both sides as well.

You can see here the side view of your new reinforcement panel. Nice and sturdy!

Here is me holding up my reinforcement panel to see how it's gonna do!! Getting excited!!

It's gonna be great!!

So, I glued all of my re-inforcement panels on to the right sides of my columns. I held it on with small clips until it was really dry.

Next, I covered the 4 remaining panels with some pretty paper. I used my score tape here so that it wouldn't crinkle the paper with glue.

Here you can see how the columns straightened up once the reinforcement panels are glued on? They'll straighten up even more after the pretty panels get glued on the other sides.

My next step involves some pink velcro!! I only used the strip that is the stiff loop side. I cut it into small pieces about 1/2" wide. 16 of them. I also snipped off the tiny corners to make it more rounded. No purpose for that, I just like rounded corners! I used Ultimate Glue this time b/c I know these sponges can stick really good to that velcro! I covered the backs with glue and used my bone folder to wipe of the excess glue from around the little velcro piece! This is gonna be so cool! Oh, I spaced the velcro pieces like this. I measured 1 1/4" from one side and glued the out pieces along that line. Then the other on a 1/2" line from the same side.

Here is what they will look like!! Fun! Also, I missed a picture in here but get all of your velcro glued on and THEN glue on your outside panels to your columns. So each column will have a black column on the right side and a pretty paper panel on the left side.

Now it's time to start thinking about putting everything together. It may be an overboard move, but I decided to get a 1/2" dowel rod. My husband widdled it down just a smidge to fit it into the center of my plastic spinner very tightly. The spinner is 5 1/2" wide. Btw, these spinners are somewhat hard to find, but Scrapadabadoo has them in stock here. My spinner spins while the dowel rod stays still in the center. I just thought this would help with the stability of the whole project while also provide a pick up handle at the top.

Next I have 4 pieces of 6" square medium weight chipboard. I made sure I was dead center and cut a 1/2" hole to fit over my dowel rod. I glued 2 of these together to made 2 total pieces from the 4. Extra sturdiness!!

Here I am just trying things out to get a feel for my next step of gluing the columns together. I slid 1 of the 6" square pieces down the rod and clipped my columns on. Oh boy!!

And another overview shot showing all 4 columns! Now time to take them off and start gluing!

I started the gluing and squeezed the glue on like you see below. I did not apply glue to that inside edge as you see b/c it won't be sticking to anything. That part will be standing against the dowel rod.

Next, I mashed it down onto the black panel of another column. I held it on here until it was pretty good and dry!

Here is a top view of this piece glued on.

I did this for a third column and mashed it onto this piece.

For the last column, you'll need to glue both sides where they meet. Make sure it glues good in all the places!

Here are all 4 columns glued together! Make sure they are good and dry!

I noticed that some of my columns didn't match up to my tallest column. =(

I layed on my top 6" square piece to see how it's gonna do. You can see daylight through that gap!!

So I cut some chipboard pieces and filled in the gaps all around! NOTE: At this point, I have not glued the 6" square chipboard bottom to the spinner or to the column piece yet. And I have not glued the top 6" square chipboard to the top of the column pieces yet either. There's still a few things to do before we glue it all together! =)

Next step, cut 4 pieces of chipboard 6" x 2 1/4". Then cut 4 pieces of your pretty paper 6" x 4 9/16". Using the score tape (b/c I don't want the paper to crinkle with glue) tape one side of the chipboard, stick the paper on and then fold it over and tape the other side as shown. Do this for all 4 pieces.

Here are all 4 pieces wrapped in pretty paper.

Since my square is exactly 6" and my 4 pieces are exactly 6" long. I trimmed just a slight (maybe 1/8th of an inch off the end of each piece so that they would overlap on 1 side so everything would fit perfectly on top of the square.

I glued these pieces like you see below. Make sure the glue is dried really good before you move to the next one.

After those 4 pieces are really dry it's time to glue them onto the square.

Then lay a few books on top of your square so that it all drys perfectly in place.

After that dried very good I placed some glue along all of the inside corners as you see. Then I ran my finger down each side to smooth it out.

I really didn't like the rough edges showing so I decided to add some pretty trim!! I measured some pieces and layed down some glue!

I trimmed the trim! Then glued the ends really good!

Now it's time to add the top shelf to the top! Lay down some glue and make sure it's sticking evenly all over!

So here we have some more rough edges showing, yucky!

So I picked out some pretty blue ruffle trim and glued it on!

Now it's time to focus on our spinner and final assembly!! Our 1/2" dowel rod after slightly shaved down on the end with a knife fits very snuggly inside the center hole of the spinner. Don't shave it too much b/c you don't want it to be too lose in there. Do a little bit at a time and keep checking it! We reinforced with some super glue around the wood. Be careful not to do ANYTHING to cause your spinner not to spin.

Then we added a little glue to the top side as well. Be careful!

Next, my dear husband drilled a hole in the top where I will screw my pretty knob on for the very last step. The blue tape you see on the drill bit is where we measured the length of the knob so he would know how far to drill down. Be careful and drill straight! Of course, this step is entirely optional, you don't have to add a knob on top! One thing you might be wondering is how are we going to spin it if we glue the dowel rod to the spinner. B/c the the center of the spinner as well as the bottom side of the spinner does not spin. Only the top piece of the plastic spins. The knob will only serve to pick up the entire unit to move it around. To spin you just touch the unit and slightly push it!

Now it's time to glue the base onto the spinner. I traced a pencil mark to make sure I glued inside the lines!

The slide the chipboard down the dowel rod and smoosh it to the spinner. Then turn it over and look at your squished up glue!

Now glue the other side of that same chipboard!! Almost done!!

Then slide your entire unit down the dowel rod and onto your gluey chipboard!! Make sure it has full contact and drys good!

Now for the last step!!

Screw on your pretty knob!! EEeeks!! All done!

And here it is!!!!!

Currently I have ALL colors up to the January 2015 release of Cracked Pistachio.

Love my little velcro foam blenders sticking right to the side next to it's ink pad!! The glue held on tight as can be and didn't pull at all!

And there is plenty of room to hold all of the 2015 releases with 4 extra spaces beyond that!

I made some labels for you. One label goes across the entire page and will wrap around your Distress Ink pad. I printed on 28lb copy paper, which is just a touch thicker than regular copy paper. I got a ream of Hammermill from Walmart. When you print, just make sure your settings are set to "borderless". I made trim lines for you too! I used my foam blenders to ink on the colors!!

UPDATED: As of this posting I have the 2015 Jan Feb Mar Apr May colors on this list. Cracked Pistachio, Abandoned Coral, Mermaid Lagoon, Fossilized Amber, and Twisted Citron. As the new ones come out I will update the PDF's.

Watercolor Pencil Vintage Fawn!

To say I love Fawns is an understatement! Here is one I sketched out and watercolored with a variety of watercolor pencils!

This is a scratch sheet where I was practicing my tree branches. Get a liner brush and fill it with pigment them drag it across your paper while twisting it in your fingers! Makes nice tree branches!

Ruth 1:16 - Bible Art Journaling with Colored Pencils

Ruth 1:16 is one of my favorite Bible verses and when I saw the inspirational page from Melissa (Instagram @fischtales) (Etsy: Fisch Tale Designs) I just knew I had to color this!! I just love the shades of pink and sky blue! It is so yummy to look at! I used my watercolor pencils, but NO water!! If you have a moment, check out Melissa's art! You Are Worth Far More Than Rubies! Bible Journaling with Gelly Roll Pens

I have recently joined a Bible Journaling group called Documented Faith. We have weekly verses that we doodle in our bibles and then share them with the group! I've been doing all kinds of Art Journlaing over the past year and have found this group to be lots of fun with great people! I've created this image set for Proverbs 31:10, "A wife of noble character who can find? She is worth far more than rubies".

For this piece I used colored pencils and a couple of Gelly Roll pens. 1st step was to print the PDF onto regular copy paper. (my printer is running out of ink!) Then I cut out the piece that fits in the 2" column of my journaling bible. It doesn't have to be exact just trim the piece out.

Using some washi tape (cause it's easy to remove) I taped the piece face down to the back of the page.

Since our bible pages are so thin and transparent, it is easy to see through the column area. Next step is to trace the image as you wish. I have a tutorial coming soon on how to transfer the image onto the whole page with graphite paper.

Here is my traced image. I decided to wait to do the sparkles free-hand.

These are all the pens I used.

Micron .005
Signo white gel
Gelly Roll Gold metallic
Gelly Roll Red Stardust
Gell Roll Clear Stardust
Derwent Watercolor pencil (not using water) - Crimson Lake
Derwent Inktense Watercolor pencil (not using water) - Violet

I filled in my words at the top with the Gold metallic pen. After it completely dried I went back around the edges with my Micron pen. I also filled in some sparkles and went over those with a Stardust pen.

For the Rubies word I filled it in with my Red Stardust Gelly Roll Pen! Pretty!

And finally for the pretty Ruby (my own birthstone!) I used the Crimson Lake pencil and colored it in lightly and then darker on every other section. Then I went over the whole jewel with my Clear Stardust Gelly Roll. Then used the Violet pencil to fill in some drop shadow.

I'm pleased with how it turned out. A very simple design.

Portable Distress Ink Palette

I found that using a piece of packaging for an ink palette works GREAT! You just scribble your ink on with your Distress Marker. Then pick it up with your paintbrush! This is the best technique for when just a little dab of paint will do! You can use this for any of your water-based markers, no matter the brand. Or, this one is big enough to smear ink on from the Distress Ink Pad as well! Then when you're done you can just wipe it clean with a damp paper towel or a baby wipe. Ready to use next time!
I wanted to make mine a little prettier than just the torn edges!! So, i cleaned up the paper tears along the sides and then wrapped the edges with some pretty washi tape! Yeah! Now, it's cute!

From kitchen table to ART table!!

I found this old kitchen table at a flea market and thought it would be perfect for a giant craft/art table! It is super heavy and has 2 leaf inserts to make it extra long!! As a dinning room table it would probably sit 8 people! I paid $80. I immediately knew I wanted it to be sunshine yellow! So bright and happy! I started with the legs and primed em up. Then painted the legs. Next, primed the top and then painted! I just love how it turned out! It's definitely not a perfect paint job. In fact, I should have painted the leaves separately but too late for that! Anyhow, ready to cover with crafty projects!!

Watercolor Hydrangea in a Ball Mason Jar

It's week 2 in my Documented Faith group and this weeks verse is
Psalms 25: 4-5

Show me Your ways, Lord, teach me Your paths. Guide me in Your Truth and teach me, for You are God my Savior, and my Hope is in You all day long.

I have been wanting to paint a hydrangea in a mason for a long time so here it is! I really enjoyed it and after watching a few tutorials on You Tube I gave it a try! I'm pretty happy with it for a first try. I definitely need to work more on painting glass. Not to mention, I'm really not happy with my lettering. It just looks like my same boring hand writing to me. I have signed up for a Lettering/Doodle class with Stephanie Ackerman and I'm looking forward to that! I'm hoping it will help improve my hand lettering!

Here is my initial sketch that I started out with. I was thinking about making this hydrangea into a new Digital Stamp for my store at Tiffany Doodles. What do you think?

I started with my Mason jar and painted wet on wet a turquoise blue. Again, need to work on my glass & water reflection technique. I used a basic water color palette and mixed some of my own shades. I drew the word 'Ball' on with my Distress Ink watercolor marker (fine tip) in Tumbled Glass.

Next, I filled in the base color for my leaves. I used a sharp edge of my ruler to carve out the veins in the leaves. I then painted wet on wet the base color for the flower. Before I paint I try to erase some of my pencil lines so they don't show thru. Ha!! On the flower, I couldn't even see them anymore so that was a waste of time, but I guess not, b/c it gave me a good silhouette to follow for the shape.

Next, I painted in a few little flowers with a mix of Cerulean Blue and Purple. I just guessed at the shapes! It only takes a few to be in focus and then just swish your brush around a bit to fake a few! =)

I added more depth to the leaves and did a few yellow dots in the center of some of the flowers here and there. Then added a purple table!

For the background, I wet everything with clear water right up to the edge of the flowers then dabbled some pink and blue, which made some purple shades in a few spots that blended. I also painted the wings on my butterfly to give it a stained glass look.

I went over my words with my Faber-Castell PITT waterproof pen. On the butterfly (or maybe it's a dragonfly) wings I made tiny little veins!

Overall, I'm pretty happy with how it turned out (except for my hand lettering). If you are interested in joining the Documented Faith group on Facebook, just send a request to join!

Tim Holtz Distress Ink DIY Color Chart

I Love my Tim Holtz Distress Inks! Why? B/c I love watercolor!! For those of you who may not know, they are a water based ink which means they are soluble in water! They come in 49 colors and are available in ink pads, markers, stains, & sprays. I have them all in the ink pads and the markers! They are coming out with 12 new colors in 2015. They plan to release them 1 color per month! Oh the anticipation! The new color for January is called Cracked Pistachio! It is a delicious shade of turquoise that is very vintage and kitschy! I'll be ordering from Crafty Saver as soon as it starts shipping in Feb. They have the best prices and customer service!

I wanted my Distress Ink chart with me where ever I go so I just made it in my journal! My journal pages are #140 watercolor paper. While you can use these markers/ink on just about any paper, for blending purposes you won't find anything better than watercolor paper. So, my journal pages are 5.5" x 8" in size. I cut a small square piece of card stock 3/4" square and snipped the corners for a more rounded look. I managed to get 6 colors across and 6 colors down. I left a 1/2" space between the rows to write in the color name. Since this wasn't enough room for all 49 colors I continued the chart on the back. If I do this again, I'll lay it out so that it is on two facing pages!

I penciled in my squares and then went over them with my Faber-Castell Pitt pens b/c they are waterproof. Then I erased all the pencil marks.

I wrote in all the ink names. I messed up on a few looking from an old chart and had to paint over them with Gesso.

After the gesso dried I filled in the names!

Here is the back side of the page.

To fill in the boxes, i used a small heart stamp and my Distress Ink pads and stamped the heart in the corner. Next I used my Distress markers and colored in the bottom of the square. I used my water brush to pull the color up towards the heart to show it fading into the white page.

I continued on the back. I kept my little square template stuck to the page with Washi tape so I can add more squares as new colors are released. After all 12 new colors are released this year then I will prolly make a new chart so I can insert them where they will belong, but for now, I'll just add them to the bottom. Coloring the Page Edges of my Journaling Bible

For Christmas this past year (2014) I got a Journaling/Doodling Bible! Not to mention, a ton of new art supplies! I was so inspired by Ashley's post at A Pile of Ashes and how she colored her bible edges I decided to do it myself! For those of you who don't know what a Journaling Bible is. It's a regular bible with a 2" column on both sides of the pages that gives you room to "make notes". My notes just happen to be very artsy, creative and colorful!! I haven't started on the inside yet, but I'll post here when I do! Trust me, it won't be long!!
To start, I got out a few of my favorite stamps and started stamping. If you are trying this as well, I can go ahead and tell you that it's a bit difficult to get an even stamping because of the contour of the pages (not totally flat). I started out by flipping back the front & back covers and used the back of my hand to press the bible against the edge of my table to smoosh the pages together tight.

I then inked my stamp with (Staz-On) and stamped it on. I was not happy with that first stamp. I had to use my Faber-Castell drawing pens to fill in all the lines that didn't stamp.

Then I discovered that if I used my fingers instead of the acrylic blocks I could get a more even stamping b/c I could "roll" the stamp along the curves with my fingers. I liked this method and used it for the rest of the project.

Once I got all my stamps layed down. Then I picked up my new Distress Ink Watercolor markers and started coloring! (Note: I did NOT use any water.) I filled in all the stamps first. Then I outlined all the stamps in Tumbled Glass and filled in the white space with Peacock Feathers. I didn't really like the look of the transition between the two colors so I used my pen to outline as you see here.

Next, I decided to fill in some blank spaces with dots and some curly q's! all over where ever I could fit some in.

I loved this little strawberry stamp and colored it in layers.

My art pens and how I've organized them!!

For the most part, I do my art journaling and watercolor at home. Then there are occasions when I am in the mood to take it with me everywhere I go! Back when I was heavy into card making and drawing stamps for my Digital Stamp store (TiffanyDoodles.com) I had my art supplies all over the place in my studio. I would save tin cans and decorate them with pretty scrapbooking paper and put all my pens and pencils in them. Later, I discovered it's better to keep them all horizontally stored, no matter what! With all the new pen sets I've gotten for Christmas I had to figure a better way to keep them horizontal and have the ability to grab 'em and go at any time! So, I went on a hunt and found these caddies at Hobby Lobby!! Perfect! And if you use a coupon they are only like $7!

There are 4 compartments. The bottom one is the deepest. The 2 middle are somewhat shallow. Then the top one is a bit larger b/c they lid allows it to be a bit fuller.

The ends pop together so, essentially you could keep building them on top of each other!

Here's how I've filled them! In the first case, I filled the larger bottom box with my distress markers. All 49 fit splendidly!

The next shallow box held my new 5" x 8.5" Moleskin like a glove! Above that I have my Stablio super fine drawing markers set of 24 with room for a bit more.

Then in the top box I put my set of 36 Bic Mark It markers and with the extra space that the lid provides they fit perfectly!

Then my second pen caddy holds the following: The bottom box holds my Gelly Rolls, Glaze, Glitter, Stardust, Meteor, and Metallic and a few other metallic pens too.

Then next box up holds my both of my Moonlight sets, bold and fine as well as my Souffle pens. The next shallow box holds all of my scrubbers, sponges, fantastix sticks, paper stumps, daubers, etc.

Then the top box holds all of my Faber-Castell and Micron drawing pens, all of my white pens, my Sumo grip mechanical pencil and my (awesome) eraser!

Next up is my art tote (from Hobby Lobby) that I LOVE! On this side you can see my collection of 48 Fiskars Gel pens, my scissors, my clip on Ott Light, 2 pack of fine drawing markers, a set of metallic watercolor paints, and my Koi (24 pan) watercolor travel kit. In the middle I have my ruler, a couple of drawing inspiration books, 2 generic paint pallets and my set of 36 Prismacolor Watercolor pencils. On the end are some small ATC paper packs and some water brushes.

On this side are my paintbrushes, and several more watercolor pencils. I also have a few paper pads and journals in there.

My next tote box holds my Distress Ink pads, my black StazOn pad, a couple of Distress stains, 12 pans of Perfect Pearls, and a few tubes of iridescent acrylic paints. Oh and my masking Frisket!

With everything I just showed you, that is 4 different things to take with you. That would be for a long trip, like to my sisters for a week or so. If I'm just going for a walk to do some sketching then I would condense everything to just my pencil, eraser, 2 drawing pens, my Koi watercolor travel kit, my water brush, and my paper pad.

My 2015 start to Art Journaling!

Welcome to 2015!! Hope everyone has had a Happy New Year! I know that I have seriously neglected this blog in the past couple of years, BUT I have big plans for it that will start unfolding soon. I have been filling that time sewing things for people, embroidering, and crocheting. You can see everything I've made here, Facebook.com/DoodleClouds. I've recently joined this Facebook group called Documented Faith and it's all about Bible Journaling! I'm just starting out and this is my first page! I've always enjoyed painting and doodling so this should be fun! This week's verse is Jeremiah 29:11 "For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."

When I started this page I wasn't really sure what it was going to look like. I started by writing the verse and boxing it in. I did not feel good about the flowers when I sketched them out, but I kept going anyway. You can barely see my sketch marks b/c I've already erased them so that I can barely see them. I only want to see a faint guideline for when I start painting or drawing. By the way, next time I will photograph each step and make it more like a tutorial for you! Below is a list of supplies and a summary of my steps.

1. My notebook paper is 140lb watercolor paper.

2. I wrote in my verse with my waterproof Faber-Castell black drawing pens.

3. Then I sketched in my flowers with my sumo grip pencil you can see in the pic below.

4. Then I erased my lines till they where barely visible.

5. I drew over my flowers with the same waterproof pen. But only 1 thin line. All the dark shadowing you see came at the end.

6. Then I really made sure all my pencil lines where erased.

7. Next I started coloring in my flowers with my Watercolor Distress markers in Worn Lipstick and Spiced Marmalade. I did a petal or 2 at a time and used my paintbrush to blend them in. I also used ink from the matching Distress ink pads, which I rubbed onto my craft sheet to pick up a little color onto my paintbrush. I filled in my petals and darkened them up with a couple more layers.

8. Next I started on my background, I wet a whole section around a flower at a time and used my Koi watercolor travel kit colors in Purple, and Ultramarine Blue. I did a wet into wet blend in small sections to get the blended look. Let that dry.
9. Next I wet inside the verse box and used Cerulean Blue and painted inside along the edge.
10. Next I took a #1 liner paintbrush and used a dark gray (Paynes Gray) to outline all of the flower edges. I washed it around the edges so it wasn't a hard line.
11. After that dried good I took my fine waterproof Faber-Castell pen and went around all the flower edges to make the shadow more dramatic.
12. Then I took my super fine pen and did some stippling (the tiny dots) to dramatize the shadows. I also drew more super fine details on the flower petals and a few wispys and curlys too. Those were fun!
13. I took a small dragonfly stamp and a small butterfly stamp and stamped them a couple of times in the background area to fill in a little space. I added a smidge of metallic watercolor paint to the wings!
14. I added a page stamp to the bottom corner and filled in the date and weather! I like to draw a weather icon to illustrate what they day was like!!

Overall, I really need help with my lettering!! ha! Hope you enjoy! Next time I'll add step by step photos! In the meantime, here are all the ways you can follow me! =)

Christmas 2014 Art Supply Haul!

For Christmas this year, I got to go on an Amazon Shopping spree! What did I fill my basket with? Of course, it had to be art supplies! Oh my gosh, too many things to name, just look at it all!!

And a set of 72 Derwent Inktense Watercolor pencils! I will definitely be sewing a colorful padded case with handles to snuggly fit this beautiful wooden box! Sophie even hopped over to see what all the excitement was about!!

I couldn't wait to try out my Distress Watercolor Markers! I got the whole set of 49! Woot woot!

And guess what else I got?!?!? A heated toilet seat (with a built in night light)!!! Oh yeah. That is a priceless gift. Seriously, you can't put a price on that kind of comfort!! There's nothing I can't stand more than a cold toilet seat!! LOL

I made this greeting card for a dear friend. After spending so much time on it I still can't tell if I got the eyes looking up in the right direction! I used watercolor pencils on 140# greeting card paper.

DIY Deodorant

Wow, it's been so long since I've posted! Sorry bout that, life gets busy sometimes and time certainly flies by! So we have been on a DIY kick lately and after reading in so many places about how deodorants and antiperspirants are thought to "possibly" contribute to cancers, we thought we'd try some DIY deodorant and see if it works. And the only reason I'm even writing this post is to say...

IT WORKS.

Seriously, it really does! I'm amazed and I wish I had done this years ago. I've been using it for 3 weeks now and don't have any complaints! Here is the recipe:

1/4 cup Baking Soda
1/4 cup Corn Starch
5 Tablespoons Coconut Oil
Empty deodorant jar

The Coconut Oil does not have to be the extra virgin, expensive kind from the health food store. (Although I do use that kind for lots of other stuff) I picked this jar up from Walmart. Coconut Oil can be stored in the pantry or the fridge. 76 degrees and above, it will be liquid. 76 degrees and below it will be a solid. To make this recipe start with your coconut oil at room temp to make it easier to mix with the other ingredients.

Mix all 3 ingredients in a bowl and spoon into your empty deodorant jar. Store in the fridge!

This amount make about 2 full size deodorant jars, or 4 of the travel size.

PS. It is easy to forget to put your deodorant on when storing it in the kitchen fridge instead of keeping it in the bathroom!! You'll get used to it after a while! =)
