I have to confess that I truly love and admire Andrea Arnold. I saw her film Fish Tank in Cannes (2009). I was in Cannes to support Tarantino on his film Inglorious Bastards. I was also visiting tons of cinema friends from around the world... and wow when I saw this film Fish Tank I fell in love all over again - and only true cinephiles know what I mean by that. It truly touched me... and I've been intrigued with Andrea Arnold ever since. The star of the film was refreshing and Arnold's "no holds barred" approach harkened back to my childhood... Reminded me so much of my mother's approach to life and also reminded me so much of Eugene Smith and Larry Clark's approach to ART. As someone who is pretty much numb to cinema... Andrea Arnold's film gave me another life line, injected me with such vitality and spirit... I highly recommend Fish Tank (and all of Andrea Arnold's work) to all my friends and colleagues alike.

I sought out her short film WASP and I found out back then that it won an Oscar.

ITS FANTASTIC. LOOK AT THE LINK BELOW:

https://vimeo.com/27862959WASP BY ANDREA ARNOLD

All I can say is that her short film is like a 3 course dinner at a fine restaurant. It had everything... it was complete and emotionally I felt satisfied. That is a deft defying act to do in our business and in the art form of true cinema. (I'm just saying that on a whim you know... any of my famous film critic friends can come on here and dispute freely.)

2011 by TIFFANY LIMOS

IN 2011 I SHOT A SHORT FILM ON LARRY CLARK. I'VE BEEN TOO BUSY WITH OTHER PROJECTS OVER THE YEARS SO I JUST FOUND TIME TO EDIT THE PIECE NOW. AS YOU CAN SEE FROM THIS BLOG THE LAST ENTRY WAS FROM SEPTEMBER 2011 WHEN I WAS AT THE BOARDWALK EMPIRE PREMIERE... AND OF RECENTLY I STARTED POSTING MORE AND MORE ABOUT WHAT I HAVE BEEN UP TO SINCE 2011. MY PERSONAL INSTAGRAM AND TWITTER ACCOUNTS WERE HACKED INTO AND I HAD POSTED ALL ABOUT MY TRAVELS AND JOBS ON THOSE ACCOUNTS... SO FOR NOW I WILL BE REPOSTING EVERYTHING HERE.

LARRY WAS TRAVELING TO Le Festival de Cinéma de la Ville de Québec (FCVQ) ON BEHALF OF THE INVITATION OF CHRISTOPHER LEMONNIER (WHOM I KNOW WHEN HE USED TO WORK AT THE CANNES FILM FESTIVAL). THERE WAS A LARRY CLARK RETROSPECTIVE AND OF COURSE I HAD MY CANON 5D HANDY. I WILL POST SOME FUNNY PHOTOS FROM THE EVENT SOON.

I WILL SHORTLY POST THE VIDEO SOON.

VIVA LARRY CLARK!

TIFFANY LIMOS X RAYA MARTIN = PHILIPPINES CINEMA POWER!

In 2012 I was flown to the Philippines by Raya Martin to be in his new film The Great Cinema Party. It was commissioned by the Jeon Ju International Film Festival. Its a very interesting film documenting the beginnings of Filipino cinema and weaving the newest stars of Filipino cinema within the structured limits of Raya's vision. If you LOVE Filipino cinema, this movie is for you! Here is the write up in Variety.com - the film is just released.

Raya Martin is the wunderkind of the Philippines. In very little time and at a young age has managed to conquer the international film festival circuit and turn cinema on its head. Of course I was honored. I was told that Raya picked out the chapter called DON'T LOOK BACK especially for me! I was floored because it was what I was feeling at the time.

There were other well known international filmmakers asked to join this project, I will find the names later... but my French DP Thomas Favel shot this. I wrote, starred in it but it was more like a fly-by-night kind of shoot. Its the story of my life in Paris in 2013 while I was living on place du Marché Saint Honoré in PARIS, FRANCE.

I was working on my book and a film for Arte Channel... and I was completely drained... I will post the film later. Here is a clip from the film for right now.

Oh, I forgot to mention that we all had dinner the night before the movie premiere... I think it was called Paris restaurant near the Ritz Carlton Hotel... and it was just a small dinner with Thierry and Quentin... and Roman Polanski showed up! It was a GREAT night... great food, wine, cinema talk, and great company!

Its still a work in progress because I've done so much work in Asia, Africa, and Europe over the last 2 years... here is a draft... but there is alot more to add. I took the footnotes out, but all this information is referenced and published. I will add the links later.

==Early life==

Tiffany Limos was born in Dallas, Texas. Limos grew up in Mesquite, Texas and was raised in a videostore.

She is of Filipina, Spanish, Hawaiian, French, African and Chinese descent. Her father grew up selling fruit on the street in the Philippines and her mother was from a wealthy Filipino family.

==Career==

At 16, Ms. Limos began modeling for the Ford agency and appeared in teen magazines like ''Sassy (magazine)|Sassy'' and ''YM (magazine)|YM''. She subsequently quit modeling and worked as a hostess at the Coffee Shop in Manhattan's Union Square (New York City)|Union Square. She worked at ''Visionaire'' and "V" magazine as a creative consultant at 19 years old in 1999. That same year Limos wrote a script for Larry Clark called ''American Girl From Texas'' that Clark has often cited as his dream project.

Limos made her acting debut in 2002 in the film ''Teenage Caveman'', a Quentin Tarantino favorite.

In 2003, Limos, 23, has written three scripts, Printed Matter based on her mentor Larry Clark,Tulsa based on Clark's book, and the third, An American Girl from Texas, is semi-autobiographical.

Also in 2003, Limos found and cast Larry Clark's film Wassup Rockers. Clark later shot Jonathan Velasquez the star of Wassup Rockers and Tiffany Limos for simultaneous covers of the French ''Rebel'' magazine.

In 2007, Limos, 27, was interviewed by Ruben V. Nepales, Head of the Hollywood Foreign Press on being honored at the Cinemanila Film Festival along-side her bestfriend and collaborator Quentin Tarantino by President Gloria Arroyo.
Michel Gondry: A Cinephile's Labyrinth

The Acclaimed Director Gives Us an Insider's Glimpse of His Favorite Video Store

Michel Gondry takes us on a tour of his local Parisian haunt in A Cinephile’s Labyrinth, a new work directed by Larry Clark alumna, actress and filmmaker Tiffany Limos. The Academy Award-winning director reminisces on time spent wandering the aisles of La Butte Video Club, the small VHS and DVD store to which he has made pilgrimages over the years. “I watched all the early Wim Wenders films from La Butte when I was preparing for The Science of Sleep,” says Gondry of this old school answer to Netflix. In his forthcoming L’Écume des Jours (Mood Indigo), the French auteur adapts Boris Vian’s 1947 cult novel of the same name—a satirical story of young love set in jazz-infused Paris. “I tried to avoid ‘Rive Gauche’ clichés,” he says of the upcoming feature, “but I used the music of Duke Ellington.” Similarly, La Butte is a relic of Paris’ past and one that continues to inspire—not just during the making of 2008’s homage to video, Be Kind Rewind, but in providing the director with regular interaction with other film lovers. “Out of all the directors I work with, Michel is the most fun,” muses Limos. “He makes me laugh out loud constantly.” Here Gondry reveals just how important his encounters in the video aisle have been to his acclaimed oeuvre.

Was the video store a big part of your early experience with film?

Michel Gondry: We had a video player at home since the early 80s so the video process was part of my adolescence. I used to shoot little sketches with my brothers and our friends. Sadly, I don’t think there are many places like La Butte left where I live in Brooklyn.

Do you ever think about whether your film will end up on the shelves of somewhere like La Butte when you are making it?

MG: Yes. In fact it’s one of the reasons why we as filmmakers have to define the genre that we want our film to belong to. We know that people will put them on specific shelves. It doesn’t make things easy when your genre is not well defined.

Have these films also influenced your collaborations with other artists, such as the musicians for whom you’ve made music videos?

MG: Yes, sure. I remember the first time I collaborated with Björk—we discussed all our favorite movies. We discovered that we had lots of favorite films in common. Like The Night of the Hunter (1955) for instance, which became an inspiration for the video for [her 1993 single] “Human Behaviour.”

Do you still watch films as much as you used to before you began making them?

MG: I don’t see them the same way. Unfortunately, I can’t take myself out of the equation. Most of the time I’m watching a movie, I’m thinking, “I could never achieve this!”

Your latest adaptation takes on a work of satire. Is it important to have a sense of humor in filmmaking today?

MG: Humor helps to swallow the harshness of life.

I went to see Michael Pitt at this premiere. Nelson George and I took this great photo at their photobooth! It was a wonderful night. Everyone was there. (Pharrell, Scorsese, Schrader, all the usual suspects) I do want to say that I've known Michael Pitt since we were teenagers and it was so great to see him on a series like Boardwalk Empire... CONGRATS!
If you don't know about Mr. Clark then go do your homework. Clark inspired and influenced Scorsese, Coppola, Van Sant, and MANY MANY MANY artists in the world! Ingrid Sischy has said that Clark influenced the last 50 years of FASHION photography! (from Helmut Newton to Mario Sorrenti to Mario Testino to Nick Knight to Terry Richardson - they all claimed Larry Clark as their IDOL!) And for all you Photography GEEKS out there, you already know what I am talking about! For the CINEPHILES, the TRUE CINEPHILES you already know Clark is a GOD in cinema. For the FASHION HEADS, Clark influenced Calvin Klein, Marc Jacobs, Raf Simons, and the list goes on... for MUSIC HEADS... Clark influenced Lou Reed, Keith Richards, Tyler the CREATOR, and MANY MANY OTHERS! Larry's art has been collected by some of the richest, most powerful, and influential people in the world! People have paid in the millions for Larry's photos and some of the photos Larry has taken of me go for at least 20k to 50k.

Please don't even try to talk to me about photography, cinema, music, and let alone Larry Clark if you haven't done your homework. I've studied photography history, cinema history, music history, art history... and I know what I am talking about here.

LARRY CLARK WILL GO DOWN AS ONE OF THE WORLD'S PIONEERS WHETHER YOU ACKNOWLEDGE IT OR NOT... (and some of you may be wondering why I am ranting about this or going on a tangent.. because I'm annoyed of people approaching me with stupid questions regarding Larry Clark when they have no clue about Larry's body of work and about Larry's status in world/international art! And I will challenge anyone of you in person about Larry Clark's work and where it stands in the world. TRY ME. You tell me what other artist made a seminal book at 21 years old call Tulsa and at 71 is still making movies that are winning top prizes at film festivals? Larry Clark's book Tulsa is one of the art pieces that changed the outlook on cinema, photography, art, and music forever... I challenge anyone else to tell me different. All the names I listed above have been influenced by Larry Clark and there are more names where that came from. All the cinematographers that were influenced by Larry Clark like Chris Doyle Mark Ping Bin Lee... and other legends in photography such as Nan Goldin... no one can touch Larry Clark... I know you want to hate on Larry, be my guest, and his body of work will stand on its own... and as Larry says, "The Legends will stand!"

Like I said... any of you morons who seriously think Larry ain't shit, well... ha ha ha... think again. Knowledge is power and I suggest you read up about him... but as Larry says... Haters need a damn job. :) If you have no clue about art history, don't bother talking about Larry Clark... because you'll just make yourself look like a damn fool.

Paul Gondry happened to be in town so he met up with us. It was a great sunny day but Day 5 of feeling under the weather. Here are some pics of what we ate.

Claudia's dish

My dish!

Sorbets, macaroons, and sitting next to Suchin Pak at the benches... we decided to split! Claudia drove and along the way I realized the Yohji store wasn't there anymore! This was in its place!

WOW! That's saying alot. Congrats to Alexander Wang.

We finally arrive to Brooklyn after massive traffic and detours. Here's Editor-In-Chief of The DDD Magazine, MAYA CONTRERAS with featured artist in The DDD, Paul Gondry!

Maya was pretty swamped and had to jet. Claudia, Paul, and I decided to go to Paul's house near White Castle. HA! (inside joke for Quark Henares)

Here are some DDD magazine's on the Gondry's coffee table!

My homeboy for life... Paul Gondry.

I had a beer and Claudia and I decided to leave the house and head back into the city. I fell asleep. I went outside and saw Terrence Jennings of all people AND Nelson George. My cousin Jean Grae came to meet me and we walked all over the city for a few hours catching up on life. It was a blast to see her and to finally not be trying to play phone tag with her. CVS had my prescription - so happy to have some medicines for this cold. I cannot take one more day of it!

Had an interesting day... went to sleep.

September 18, 2010

Day 4 of not feeling well.
