We are going a bit off the vintage trail today to talk about boys and their toys. See my husband's toy happens to be a Porsche Boxster S that he likes to take to car shows either for display or judging. Last weekend was the annual Arizona Region Porsche Club of America Concours in which his car was once again entered.

Planning for this event means about a month of me greeting the UPS driver as he drops off boxes of cleaning supplies and my husband spending nights and weekends in the garage with his car. More time for me to watch television uninterrupted by his surfing channels during commercials. Cleaning consists of, amongst other items, color designated microfiber cloths for specific areas, cotton swabs, toothbrushes and various sprays. The car is never washed with a hose and bucket for water spots will be counted against you and there aren't many places for dirt or spots to hide from the judges eyes and nimble fingers. By the end of 4 weeks the car looks better than original.

We generally stay overnight someplace close to the event location since the day starts quite early with registration and a final once over to remove any dust from the drive. All fine and well except this particular weekend it decides to rain the morning of the judging. You should have seen the planning and precision that went into removing the car cover in order to get the least amount of water on the car. Needless to say after all that care, it rained during the drive over to the event.

The show took place in the town of Carefree Arizona with cars parked along the shops. Our division was on the corner of Ho Hum road and Easy street. There were more clouds than actual rain during the judging and show and a nice turnout of people and cars for the day. Of course the clouds broke and sunshine prevailed as soon as the event ended.

Winners were announced and awards presented during the dinner that evening. My husband's car took home first place for it's division. Job well done! Now how about cleaning the bathroom this weekend?
