. . . all winter long, the dressing table has been strewn with every kind of beauty oils imaginable -- elixirs for perfect skin, hair serums and body potions -- and since they work so beautifully and have become a fixture in the beauty regiment, shall continue through the summer -- and always, adding a few luxurious body shimmers to the mix for bare shoulders and legs and collarbones; despite the age-old belief that oils cause oily skin or breakouts, the opposite is actually true -- stripping away oils from the face can cause the skin to produce more oil, whereas adding oils -- argan, coconut, etc., does not; in fact, so in love with beauty oils, have also recently picked up an enormous container of raw organic virgin coconut oil from a health food shop to try as a body moisturizer, eye makeup remover, and even to tame the ends of tousled hair, and sarah has wondered about the possibility of grape seed oil for the face [although not quite certain about that one!] -- would love to know -- do you use beauty oils, and if so, which ones are your current favourites?

. . . and it would seem that our lives have been in flux for the past year or more, as is often the case after enormous, life-changing decisions have been made, and today, just moments ago, there was a handyman installing a new chandelier in the bedroom, and a photographer and bright flashes and rapid clicks moving through the rooms, and it feels, as if, after all this, time, it's really about to happen . . .

This splendidly glamorous great love story existed in private jets and White House gala dinners, daring adventures and then, quite catastrophically, ended suddenly and tragically . . .

. . . bits of our weekend included the requisite eggs benedict and champagne cocktail at sunday brunch, this time, in the garden of a favourite french restaurant; and there were also butterflies and white lilacs, and drinks on another sunny terrace in another part of town, dappled in patches of golden sunlight and the scent of a million more lilacs . . .

. . . . . . have you had a chance to flip through any new décor books lately? was so excited when the publishers of marrakesh by design sent along a copy a few weeks ago, as had been meaning to pick one up as soon as possible; written [& photographed!] by friend and fellow blog author maryam from my marrakesh, it includes all the exotic splendour that is marrakesh, including the luxurious mix of rich colours, billowing fabrics, mosaic tiles, and, of course, beautiful sequinned wedding blankets; also included is an exploration of morrocan architecture, styling tips, and even recipes for at-home hammam beauty treatments such as olive oil hair & face masks; very much looking forward to a few moments to this weekend to flip through the pages and become lost in the magic that is morocco . . .

. . . can hardly believe we are very nearly half-way through another year, and every year, it is a tradition to make [& break] the same two resolutions of going to the gym everyday, and conquering the overflowing inbox [once and for all], but, now that we are entering the second half and headlong into summer, the focus has shifted somewhat from workouts and inboxes, to finding a sort of balance, and time for the luxury of leisure; and so, yesterday was the second day out of the office, meeting an old friend [not seen in over five years] for lunch [tarte flambée of bacon, onion, fromage blanc, gruyère & a glass of wine], a wander around the shops and, best of all, a picasso exhibit, followed by pretty drinks on an ivy-covered terrace; should like to keep up this less-hectic pace for as long perfectionistic & workaholic tendencies will allow—hopefully, at the very least, until summer's end . . .

{p.s.} and in other news, have been searching everywhere for the current issue of harper's bazaar brides -- apparently, the combination of white elie saab gowns & pink text is impossible to resist x

. . . do you remember the paint-dipped baskets from two summers ago? imagine the utter delight when happening upon these stunning silvery ones -- a few straw [or wicker] baskets and spray paint [mine might be gold], and in no time at all, a beautiful place to store magazines or anything else, or even to carry along to the market early saturday morning . . .

. . . . . . saturday, while p was in/at a sporting event, a part of the afternoon was spent in a beautiful flurry of white lilacs & sterling roses, caramel macarons and stops in quaint coffee and elegant china shops, and in the evening, met up again for films and sushi . . . and on sunday, brunch, of course, [eggs benedict with grilled sourdough and smoked peameal], long city walks in the sun and shops, and in the air, summer's near arrival in the lilac-laden breezes . . .

What is it about the sea that calls us so? For reasons of insouciant living alone, surely, it beckons as Summer returns once again, golden rays falling upon the earth.

And as the days draw happily into evening, and we imagine a multitude of moments, memories, tokens and treasures of seaside living, words such as bliss and relaxation and breezy may come to mind, hearts drawn to temperate sands, as crawling waves sweep up notes . . .

. . . or dreams of filling worn metals pails will dozens of stacked shells in all sizes and colors -- no two alike -- and almost too weighty to carry back; or delicious seafood picnics on grassy areas and the plans and promises of summer afternoons; or of running about reckless and carefree, with sand between toes and bicycle rides along the shore.

But above all else, perhaps one of the greatest joys of Summer seaside living is boarding a boat, and setting out to water. Sunkissed faces, brushed in breezes, hair tousled, and forth we go . . . in dreams of a voyage paved by melodic tides and liberating seas.

How wonderful it would be to be a part of the water, a part of the sea life, and to see the world at a different angle. Languorous Summer hours spent aboard reading, enjoying company, exploring islands, viewing sea life, and taking photographs -- it almost seems like a dream.

Where will you go? What will you see? Who will you be meeting? What shall you pack? All wonderful questions, and though perhaps the going and packing falls into calculation, it is, indeed, the mystery of what one will see, and who one may meet that makes the journey all the more intriguing . . .

and so, today, we take you along the vast waters for the romance of elegant afternoons of golden ribbons of sunshine and sea-ladend breezes, as we discover some of the greatest vessels and places to sail around the world . . .
