"My husband, Ron, and I have two sons (Ryan and Adam) and two dogs (Blake and Sydney). Throughout the years, we've had to deal with many care issues, and in the spring of 2006 we had a crisis when trying to find reliable care for our family. It was a very painful experience. Party Planning and Cinnamon Apple Muffins for Thanksgiving Day Breakfast with MyPunchbowl.com

It's that time of year, again. Yeah, I know. It's my turn to host Thanksgiving dinner and, truth be told, I don't really mind it, as much as having to sit on a highway, or two, for a couple of hours, or twenty and dipping into the Halloween candy, while trying to convince four very hungry children that, YES, we are ALMOST there!

Besides, there's something, I dunno, cozy about stuffing a turkey, while listening to Jim Carrey's version of How the Grinch Stole Christmas and deciding if anyone cares whether the cranberry sauce is homemade, or not.

No, I haven't quite got it all planned out, yet. When it comes to family gatherings, we're pretty loosey-goosey at our house.

However, I believe that this Cinnamon Apple Muffins will fit into our Thanksgiving morning routine, very nicely, thankyouverymuch!

Cinnamon Apple Muffins for Thanksgiving Day Breakfast

INGREDIENTS:

Muffin or cupcake liners
1 ½ cups flour
1 ½ tsp. of baking powder
¾ cup of sugar
1 ½ tsp. of baking powder
1 tsp. of ground cinnamon
½ of a cup of whole milk
1/3 of a cup of melted butter
1 egg
1 cup of peeled, cored and diced Granny Smith apples
1 cup of cinnamon chips

DIRECTIONS:

Stir the flour, sugar, baking powder and cinnamon together in a medium-sized bowl.
Add the milk, butter, egg, apples and cinnamon chips next, stirring together until the mixture is smooth.
Fill each muffin liner about 2/3 full, then bake in a 365 degree oven for about 20 minutes.
Allow the muffins to cool for at least 5 minutes before serving them.

Ice Age 3: Dawn of the Dinosaurs on DVD

My oldest girls (they are 15 and 13) both had steady babysitting gigs over the summer and, well, is it wrong when your kids start earning more money than, you know, you do?

So, my 13 year-old had a couple of bucks burning a hole in her pocket and offered to take my youngest daughter (she's 8) to see Ice Age 3: Dawn of the Dinosaurs and, I have to admit, I was sort of jealous.

SPOILER ALERT!

"It was the best one yet, but the poor squirrel STILL didn't get the acorn!!!"

I love the banter between Ray Romano, Dennis Leary and have a secret little crush of John Leguizamo, ever since playing Tybalt in Romeo & Juliet.

[heavy sigh]

Sid the sloth is sort of cute, right?

Aaaanyway, now that the movie was released onto DVD on October 27th (Holy Hannah Montana, is it November, already?) especially, for those of us who didn't make it to the theater on time (stupid economy) now we get a chance to see it, too!

Honestly, I don't usually get very excited about sequels and, in my opinion, something almost always gets lost in the storyline, or the main characters become old (seriously, Harry Potter should be graduating college, by now, right) and, well, why mess with a good thing?

Except, on the very rare occasion that everyone in my family and I really, really liked the movie (that's 6 different opinions, at last count) and we simply didn't want it to end -- Ice Age 3 Dawn of the Dinosaurs is one of those movies!

MORE ABOUT THE MOVIE: Manny and the herd discover a lost world of ferociously funny dinosaurs, including a cranky T. rex who’s got a score to settle with Sid! Meanwhile, Scrat goes nuts over the beautiful Scratte (pronounced: scrat-tay) but, is she trying to win his heart – or steal his acorn?

I love, Love, LOve, LOVe, LOVE the music (Queen Latifah is a Jersey girl, YO!) and IMHO (in my humble opinion) Ice Age 3 Dawn of the Dinosaurs is absolutely the prettiest (seriously, the design folks must have worked overtime, on this one) and the funniest of the series, but really bad for people who snort, when they laugh, like me.

Did you know that there was a National Coffee Day (September 29th) and, well, you and I just missed it by...um...a couple of weeks.

However, if you're a coffee lover (like me) it's never too late to celebrate those mornings when, you know, you're just happy to be able to get out of bad.

The good folks at Nescafe Tasters Choice know this -- yes, they read my blog -- and sent me a special "coffee lover's care package" filled with their newish instant coffee single serve packs to try and, yes, I realize that not everyone thinks of "instant coffee" as "real coffee."

I am NOT one of those people.

Truth be told, I very rarely buy coffee out, anymore.

Unless, I'm with friends, or my favorite brother-in-law sends me a Starbucks gift card for Christmas [hint, hint] again.

Besides, my husband makes a wicked good pot of coffee (yes, I'm keeping him) and we keep instant coffee in the house, just in case.

Even my gentle and understanding mother will agree, I CANNOT MAKE A GOOD POT OF COFFEE, EVEN IF MY LIFE DEPENDED ON IT, DANGIT!

So, I heated a pot of water and ripped open a single serving pack of Taster's Choice Vanilla (not easy, when you're in a rush, had to use scissors) filled the lovely little travel mug (above) and rushed out of the house for, well, soccer, I think, I forget.

FINAL VERDICT: Although, it didn't taste like my husband's coffee -- I add a drop of vanilla to my mug -- I really enjoyed the taste and, in my opinion, the single serving packs are pretty good in a pinch.

Sesame Street is turning 40 in November -- Download 40 Years Coloring Sheet!

WOW! Has it been 40 years, already? It's hard enough to believe that my oldest daughter is turning 16 (someone, hold me, please!) I mean, it feels like only yesterday, I can still remember her sitting in front of the television, in her Barbie pajamas (don't ask!) eating a bowl of cereal and watching her favorite cartoon, Little Bear.

[sniff]

My middle girl couldn't get enough of Pooh Bear, my son was all about the Power Rangers and my youngest daughter, well, Dora the Explorer was okay -- especially, since she pronounced it, "Do-wuh the Explo-wuh!" -- but, I still cannot seem to wrap my head around the Doodle Bops, who I did NOT link to, only because they've got some really, REALLY LOUD music on their website and, well, mommy's ears are tired.

[shiver]

However, I am proud to admit that all 4 of my children are PBS Kids (me, too) as, I believe there are many benefits to watching good quality television programs -- especially, for families who perhaps lack access to educational resources we take for granted.

My twin brother and I learned to speak English watching children's television shows like, Sesame Street and The Electric Company (My parents immigrated from Hungary during the 1956 Revolution) in fact, these programs were the closest to a preschool education we had, for a lot of kids, too!

Sesame Street is turning 40 (or, celebrating the 10th anniversary of their 29th birthday) with the debut of SESAME STREET: 40 YEARS OF SUNNY DAYS, a two-disc DVD set being released on November 10th from Vivendi Entertainment and Sesame Workshop, the non-profit educational organization behind Sesame Street.

SESAME STREET: 40 YEARS OF SUNNY DAYS, features a wide selection of iconic segments of past and present, like:

Ernie’s bath-time song “Rubber Duckie” (Season One), which topped the Top-40 charts for seven week
Kevin Clash’s first episode as Elmo (Season 17)

HEALTHY HALLOWEEN SNACKS: California Raisin Spooky Spider Recipe

California Raisin Spooky Spiders

Halloween is just around the corner (no, my two youngest STILL don't have their costumes..DANGIT!) I like to cook, but often find it hard to fit in (don’t we all!) so, the good folks at California Raisins thought this might be a perfect time to send along a fun (and healthy) recipe that the kids and I could make together and, you know, get in the Halloween spirit.

Yes, it is THAT EASY!

We received a lovely box filled with ALL the ingredients needed to make Scary Spiders and, well, there really was NO EXCUSE for not whippin' up a batch of the spooky little suckers, right?

So, last night, before bedtime (okay, more like last minute) my youngest daughter (Hope is 8) and I decided to give it shot.

Then, I read the first instruction:

"Place raisins, almond butter, honey and cocoa powder in a food processor..."

Aaaand, I was, like:

"Uh-oh, we don NOT have a food processor..."

(actually, we do, but it's broken)

So, I grabbed my blender (it still works) and hoped for the best.

No worries, the ingredients blended just fine (after realizing that "pulsing" the mixture worked best) however, I did have to soak the blender top in hot soapy water.

Then, Hopey "squished" the chocolaty almond paste with a spatula and then added the crispy brown rice cereal.

Here's the really fun part -- tossing the crispy brown rice cereal, with the chocolaty almond paste and using your hands for the rest of the recipe, too!

See? Sort of like chocolate little meatballs...only, crunchier. We couldn't find any waxed paper (surprised?) but, my husband suggested his baking pad (which, I'm not supposed to use, without permission) and it was good.

Then, we gave the chocolaty almond little meatba...I mean...spiders a quick chocolate coating on their bottoms and were ready to give them legs and eyes, too!

A little licorice and chocolate candy and...VIOLA!...scary spiders are in the house. Okay, so some are missing legs, because some of us (who shall not be named) do NOT like black licorice.

I'm sure, red licorice would have worked very well, too!

We popped them in the fridge and had them for breakfast, the next morning.

What?

Actually, it only takes about 15 minutes to set, but it was late and, well, coming up with a healthy bedtime routine is whole other story, right?

And, just so you know:

As part of their effort to raise awareness of Feeding America's childhood hunger initiatives and to contribute to the fight against domestic hunger, California raisin growers are donating a semi-truck load of raisin snack packs and $50,000 to help support Feeding America, the country's largest hunger relief organization.

While the monetary contribution will help to fight hunger at the national level, the raisin donation will benefit the people served by the Fresno Community Food Bank in the heart of California Raisin country.

Because (say it with me) nice matters and hunger sucks!

We will be attending the opening night on November 24th at the IZOD Center in East Rutherford and I will post a review of our experience, the following day (Thanksgiving Eve) as the kids and I have never seen anything "on ice" before.

Michael Buble is in the House: Crazy Love CD Review - Music That Soothes a Tired Mom!

So, who the heck is Michael Buble (pronounced, for lack of a better example, Boob-lay) and what the heck is he doing in my house?

A friend of mine turned me on to Michael Buble, during a Christmas party, when she had his CD playing and I was all, like, WHO IS THAT and CAN I HAVE HIM?!?

My husband, Garth [not his real name] gifted me with "Call Me Irresponsible" that year and, well, I've been hooked on his smooth, sultry, and extremely sexy voice, ever since.

Michael Buble, I mean -- in fact, I soon subscribed to Michael Buble Radio for my review of Pandora.com -- my husband, however, is really good at other things; singing, not so much.

So, when my friends over at One2One Network asked if I'd be interested in spreading some "Crazy Love" (Michael Buble's new album released on October 9, 2009) I was all, like, YES and I CAN HAVE HIM, AGAIN!

So, what's he sound like? Well, if I had to explain it (using my inside voice, only) "Crazy Love" is music that soothes a tired mom.

FINAL VERDICT: I am already a HUGE fan and have been crushing on Michael Buble for a while, now -- yes, my husband already knows -- however, "Crazy Love" is a bit more (for a lack of a better word) progressive than his last album. A lot less Frank Sinatra-ish and one that my teeneagers can almost tolerate me listening to, while they are in the car, with me, sort of.

Aaaaand, they also believe that it doesn't hurt to look at the boy....either.
