Tax on groceries? Including staples? That's new (well, since 1980, I can't remember back that far).

I'm personally not completely against the idea itself, I've always wondered why it wasn't taxed and wouldn't notice if it suddenly were.

However, I am against implementing a new tax to solve a deficit instead of budget cuts. That's just putting a band-aid on a gaping wound.

Interesting post. Enjoyed reading it.

Might I suggest breaking up the paragraphs a little? It's a bit hard to read giant blocks of text in this age of the internet. ;)

Nobel Prize has always been for weird political reasons, never about Peace or actions towards it.

I mean, they gave it to Teddy Roosevelt who basically invented Gun-Boat diplomacy. Which, indirectly, I suppose did create peace in the face of fear. Still, I don't think that was on Teddy's mind at the time... 'Hmm, if I scare the shit out of everyone and make them think twice about messing with the US, then maybe I'll get a Nobel Peace Prize!'

While that is actually true, I don't see that as the core of the issue.

It's such a really, really, really hard thing to understand the economics of waste and production in the world. When you have 5000 toilets in the Belagio hotel in Vegas all flushing at the same time and still have running hot water from the faucets, that could be considered wasteful, or luxury. But is luxury wasteful? For those who work towards having the lifestyle they where they wish they can have luxury, I would say no. To those who are ignorant of the own waste they produce, I would still say no.

Everything is in some messed up wonderful balance that where I tend not to worry about meticulous details because there are 5 other people out there who will do it for me. Everyone subconsciously keeps everyone else in check, just by living and being the raging liberal or the super conservative and everything in between. It's interesting to think about.

An astute observation, Jay! Once again, however, AGW proponents still point out that were it not for humans and our rapacious appetites for beef, there would be far fewer cows and therefore, less methane emissions. It tends to be all circular with some of these folks.

I always find it interesting that everyone blames humans for greenhouse gases and all the other pixie magic which is causing global warming, but no one ever points to the cow emissions.

I mean, aside from when the United Nations declared the methane from cow emissions the “greatest threat to the climate, forests, and wildlife.” Livestock emissions are responsible for 18% of the greenhouse gases that cause global warming. That’s more than all forms of transportation put together.

Err... right? Right.

I wish you wouldn't call Obama, President Obama. The libs always would refer to President George W. as Mr. Bush. They couldn't give him the respect he deserved. BTW I love the reference to Obama as OB.!
