Great article series on coaching trees. Follows every major tree in the NFL starting with Paul Brown.
Watch the video, it opens with Shula.

Obviously, with Philbin and Sherman - they bring a lot of Green Bay background (not just system-wise but coaching). They certainly seemed to help Hartline have a big year last year.

I wonder if their coaching, their system, will benefit the new guys (Wallace, Gibson, Keller) such that they could play some of their best football in their careers? Esp. since they are with coaches who come out of a system that is among the best systems in the NFL - esp. in the passing game - and the passing systems they came from were not especially great.

Should be interesting to see.

IMHO, if there are not major injuries and the LT position can hold its own, We should have a very good passing attack.

No. 7: Ryan Tannehill, Miami Dolphins
It's the little things about Tannehill that impress. He's not afraid to throw the ball into windows. (Pass interference often was his best play.) He changes plays at the line of scrimmage like a veteran. He usually makes quick decisions. Those traits got obscured for a variety of reasons last season, but Dolphins fans have every right to be thrilled about their quarterback selection. General manager Jeff Ireland got this one right.

A quick hitch to Mike Wallace arrived swiftly.
Tannehill noticed Brian Hartline had gotten behind the starting safeties during 11-on-11 drills and floated a deep ball to last year's leading receiver, allowing him to catch it in stride, putting Hartline in a foot race to the end zone just like the one they teamed up for in last year's record-setting performance against the Cardinals.
Miguel Maysonet - small school rb who was just cut by Eagles. Didn't get to participate in anything other than rookie camp. Coach simply said he wasn't a fit.
Adrian Bushell, cb from Louisville - former Gator, had some history of "behavior" problems, but had draftable grade. Recently cut by Raiders after flashing a little in their rookie camp.
Darrington Sentimore - DT from Tennessee - invited to Bengal camp; not offered a contract as of right now
Corey Broomfield - talented db from Mississippi State, who was initially rumored to have signed with Dolphins. Recovering from injury.

I am sure there may be a couple more.

Personally, I think Miami better get ready to pay the man because no one is putting up great stats with Mark Sanchez as his QB. Still he managed a few good years under the Suckchez. Something in the range of 60 catches/800 yards and 5-7 TD's is definitely within reach for Keller. I think it could be over 1000 if Tannehill makes the jump that I think he can/will make.

Cutting two games off the preseason -- either by expanding the playoffs or moving to an 18-game schedule -- is still being discussed, commissioner Roger Goodell said Tuesday at the NFL's spring owners meetings in Boston.

Both ideas are intriguing and have credible arguments for and against. The most compelling argument for either of these two ideas is more football for fans while the most persuading argument against would have to be the health of the players.

My take on these issues is that the NFL would have to expand rosters to at least 60 (from 53) and include an additional BYE or creative scheduling if an 18 game season were chosen. An 18 game season would also have to include compensation adjustments and a raised salary cap. With the removal of two preseason games, a lot of young and bubble players would lose chances to show themselves as viable NFL players. This is, in my opinion, the perfect chance to create a farm or "D" league for the NFL. Partnering with the UFL or the USFL (trying to get a season going in 2013), the NFL could use the partnership as a way to provide both a place for players to develop, as well as a source of football for fans during the off-season. The lower league could operate in markets where the NFL would like to get a foothold.

Discuss.

I got the awards list from wikipedia and the stats from ESPN.
NFL.com does not include stats from the 90s for whatever reason.
I also didnt post awards like Defensive player of the week/month because I didnt think that is relevant towards a HoF vote.
Having one more probowl appearence shouldnt make that much of a difference.

Anyway the advantages I see that Urlacher has is that he has a few Defensive Player of the Year awards, while Zach has none.
Statistically the only advantage Urlacher has is in sacks and INTs. And he barely has more INTS than Zach had.

“Consistency; a guy that can have some all-purpose value. You know, can he play on first, second or third down. Whereas the defenses are at a point where they make a lot of their calls based on what jersey numbers are in the game. So the better multiple dimensional that our guys can be, they can catch, they can run, they can block, I think the better that is for the offense and the tougher it is for the defense. So somebody that’s got some versatility, consistency. Obviously we want to create more explosive plays running the football this year; part of that is breaking tackles so elusiveness obviously has something to do with it. We’re looking for as many good, all-around football players as we can possibly get. If we have to slot a guy into the game who can only do one thing, there’s value in that, but again the other side of the ball probably has some things that can counter that because they look tendencies. ‘Hey, every time player x is in the game they run the ball 87% of the time.’ So, when you strap it up you’re going to be in an uphill battle. So those types of things. We are really looking for consistency. Versatility, somebody we can depend on, and then somebody, quite frankly, that can break some tackles.”
He was mainly talking about the runningbacks, but I think this applies to TEs/H-backs etc too. Clearly, when evaluating whether you think a player may make the team, put Versatility at the top of the criterion list.
