Released February 29th, 2008

Last night, Caitlin Rose celebrated the release of her wonderful debut EP—though she did admit that she had sold a few in Murfreesboro over the weekend. Unabashedly open about her nervousness, Rose charmed the crowd and expertly showcased her myriad of talents.

1. Rose actually managed to get the crowd to sing along. (This is Nashville! She was the opener!! These people weren't even drunk yet!!!) A sizable portion of the early-arriving attendees joined the 20-year-old songstress for the chorus of "Answer in One of These Bottles," and they sounded pretty decent doing it.

2. That girl can sing. Like really sing. It was on the slower numbers that her vocal prowess really shone. She has that tone, that dynamism, that certain je ne sais quoi that many of this years AI contestants would kill for.

3. You can't teach charisma. This young lady's humility and quirkiness is undeniably alluring—it was especially cute when she took off her hat for the sad ones.

Released August 8th, 2006

After reforming in June of 2005, Forget Cassettes' new line-up additions consisting of Aaron Ford on drums and Jay Leo Phillips on bass/rhodes entered the studio with founding member Beth Cameron to record the full length follow up to Instruments of Action. The album consists of nine songs, clocking in at over 40 minutes in length and is the biggest sounding recording to date for the band. The album features songs recognized from the Instruments tours, finally on tape. "Venison", "Nicholas" and "Patience, Beth (Reprise)" have long been fan favorites but yet to be available for purchase. Also featured are soon to be classics such as "Quiero, Quieres", "Lonely Does It" and "Tabula Rasa". Those with their doubts of the line up change have been quickly converted back to fans, "It is an honor to announce Forget Cassettes’ switch from a two- to a three-piece band pushed their music forward and not backward..." - The Chattanoogan. Recommended for fans of Yeah Yeah Yeahs, PJ Harvey, Sleater Kinney, rock n roll in the heaviest way.

→ Buy physical copy for $10
→ Buy on iTunes

TRACKLISTING:

Apollo Up has captured their signature live energy in the studio. The album features a more polished and mature approach to songwriting along with cathartic guitars, emotive vocals and raw production. Phillips, the band's primary songwriter, sums it up best by saying that "we've either hit our stride or are getting a lot closer to it." Smother Magazine agrees, "Armed to the teeth with throaty vocals and energetic guitars, Apollo Up do the post-hardcore thing with loud results. This band has the goods and then some!" Keep an eye out for their upcoming features in both Alternative Press and Copper Press. Upbeetmusic explains it best, "Loud, abrasive, but subtlety genius alternative rock/post-hardcore just doesn’t come this easy and dangerous nowadays, and the parents should be worried." Recommended for fans of Elvis Costello, Rocket From The Crypt and Hot Snakes.

→ Buy physical copy for $10
→ Buy on iTunes

TRACKLISTING:

Released May 2nd, 2006

Forget Cassettes is back with a new lineup and two new releases in 2006. The first is The Catch CD single which features 3 songs, the title track is featured from the Salt LP, available August 8th, while the other two tracks, Sleeper and Patience, Beth are b-sides and only available on this release. The single will only be available for purchase online or at shows and will have a very limited pressing. The Catch is the first release featuring the new line up additions, Jay Phillips of Apollo Up to bass/guitar/keys/vocals and Aaron Ford from The Sincerity Guild on drums and percussion. Get your hands on this today before we sell out. Early press is all ready in and telling us what we all ready know, "People have been betting on Beth Cameron for a while, and now it looks like that bet is finally going to pay off...Propelled by a thundering drum march and a giant, echoing guitar hook, The Catch is what you wish all of the new Yeah Yeah Yeahs record sounded like — immediate, possessed and confident. Cameron sounds better than she ever has on record, veering between quiet creaks and her yearning yelp that the 'city is a bad lover … let's sink it and build ourselves over.'" - All The Rage

→ Buy physical copy for $3

TRACKLISTING:

The Carter Administration - Air Guitar Force One

Released August 15th, 2005

One of Nashville's longest running trios have captured 10 of their best tracks for their debut full length released by theory 8. The entire album's sound can be summed up with a lyric from the title track..."I've got my degree in rock n' roll". The Carter approach to songwriting focuses on simple hooks and sing along choruses. The Tennessean describes them best, "The Carters could go toe-to-toe with Fountains of Wayne in a battle of tenacious harmony-hooks, and with fellow locals Kings of Leon in scratch-and-grit guitar style. Seasoned Intimidator sounds like the band's funneled returned Nashvillian Ben Folds' vocal hooks onto a Thin Lizzy guitar chug (and man does it work)...it is a fantastic collection of rock 'n' roll that leans on remarkable songwriting above an easily marketable style." If you find yourself overexposed to flavor of the month indie fodder and need to remember what amazing rock music sounds like, Air Guitar Force One is the album for you. For fans of Tom Petty, Sebadoh, AC/DC, Spoon

→ Buy physical copy for $10

TRACKLISTING:

De Novo Dahl - Cats & Kittens

Released May 6th, 2005

This album has to be the biggest project theory 8 has ever taken on. Cats & Kittens is something of an impossible feat by a band without any other full length albums to their name. These two albums consist of over 32 tracks, 16 in their original form on Cats, and then turned around and all of them remixed on Kittens. Sound ambitious? We think so. This release contains over 2 hours of music by one of Nashville\'s most forward thinking, progressive bands. The idea of this release is only solidified after hearing what the band was able to pull off...a rare ability to not only give the public an amazing album, Cats, but to throw away the novelty of a remix disc and actually make another record that could stand on it\'s own as a separate release, Kittens. All The Rage Magazine explains, \"The album proper is impressive enough - DND often sound like The Divine Comedy playing Kinks songs on Pulp\'s instruments - but the remix disc is just jaw dropping in its imaginative scope. The band\'s completely new takes on the songs make Kittens just as listenable as its source material, Cats.\" Everything about this album is extravagant, from 32 tracks, to the simplistic artwork displayed on the organically produced cardboard packaging. This is Nashville\'s indie pop future. Both the guitarist and bassist play keyboards and sing to create one amazing debut album. When listening to this record, you'll be reminded of the pop simplicity of the Police or the Cars and yet be amazed at the creativity reminiscent of bands such as Yes or Genesis. Bettawreckonize.com explains, "Intelligent lyrics with a prose like flow, positioned over the top of angular guitar work, with syncopated drumming, and bitter sweet harmonies. My ears were tweaked from the start. Overall, this is a great record, a great live band, and a great find."

Released September 1st, 2004

Way back in the Fall of 1996, two college freshman shared a dorm room together in Nashville...one promised he was going to start his own record label and the other promised he would start his own band for the label to release his record. Eight years later, What It's Like On The Inside is that record. After Aaron Hartley started theory 8 in 2000, Aaron Ford began The Sincerity Guild beginning a professional relationship that brings us to the release of an album four years later. This album is Ford's instrumental opus, highly influenced by John Coltrane's A Love Supreme, but maintaining the indie rock prowess of bands like Don Caballero and Jawbox. Unlike other instrumental bands, TSG keep their tracks to the point, not over expanding just to play long "jams", but cramming complex song structures into 3 and 4 minutes. Even on the two part beginning and ending tracks, where the band experiments with longer songs, TSG leave the listener feeling like they are listening to well crafted, well planned rock n roll. For fans of Don Cabellero, Jawbox, Unwed Sailor, The Mercury Program and John Coltrane

→ Buy physical copy for $10

TRACKLISTING:

Released February 1st, 2004

This record can honestly be seen as In Clover's "swan song", taking over a year to record, and then scrap, and then re-record, you can feel the heart that Justin, Jamie and Dan put into every single song on this record. This is truly theory 8's first opus, clocking in at over 56 minutes, all 11 songs take you on a journey of a band growing in their own style and finding their own voice in today's crowded indie rock world. Everything about this record is top notch from the warm analog recording to the beautiful artwork of PJ Fiddler. Our favorites have to be the country tinged "Gossip in a Town of Thieves" , the funky bassline of "Sunburn" and the simple catchiness of "I Am The One In the Sea" to name only a few. Perhaps the liner notes best explain this concept album, "Omniocea is a tangible property of no one, but a living thought in all of us. Try your hardest to stay afloat in the unfathomless depths of her being. Don't let yourself drown in the cruel waves of Omiocea." For fans of Bright Eyes and Copeland

→ Buy physical copy for $10

TRACKLISTING:

Hailing from Nashville, TN, Apollo Up take simple songs and make them catchy, so catchy. Popshot.net explains best, "Songs like 'Magnetic South' and 'Jagged Eisenhower' highlight Apollo Up's harmonic vocal prowess and evoke Fugazi at their catchiest with bridges that make heads nod and fists fly consistently. Few rock bands in Nashville consider vocals as particularly as this band, and the listener is very appreciative. Harmony and melody and solid back-up vocals make a huge difference." Bettawreckonize.com raves "Light the End and Burn it Through has all the elements of a top 10 album of the year: catchy vocals, powerful guitars, rhythm for days and cowbell" For fans of Fugazi, Q And Not U, Jawbox, Elvis Costello

→ Buy physical copy for $10

TRACKLISTING:

Released January 1st, 2003

The fifth release from theory 8 comes from Forget Cassettes, a female fronted 2 piece out of Nashville, TN. The band has managed to redefine the words "stripped down sound" by producing one of the biggest sounding records ever. Their sound is complicated, with vocal stylings in comparison to sleater kinney or perhaps pj harvey and yet, they offer complex song structures in the vein of bands like q and not u. The album was recorded by Mike McCarthy, producer for ...And You Will Know Us By The Trail of Dead and Spoon. The Nashville Rage states "Every song on the record benefits from complex, twisting arrangements that frustrate the verse-chorus-verse standard. This combined with the band's ability to switch from quiet meditation to full-on rock riff show off their careful musicianship and will to make rock music just as complicated and expressive as the subjects of their lyrics". MWH offers up sweet little indie pop ditties while In Clover brings out the emotion in their indie rock. Buzzgrinder.com speaks for each band, "Movies With Heroes is what I like to call a 'gateway band.' They take an established genre and they successfully sculpt it into a sound that is generally approachable to a wider audience. In Clover is also what I would consider a 'gateway band,' but they employ a more subtle stream of influences. The vocals are simply gorgeous, and are at times accompanied by carefully placed harmonies."
