All you need is a weekend to enjoy a new city – sure, more time would be great but not everyone has that much time off. I love that you can hop a flight and a few hours later enjoying a new sights, sounds, and cityscapes anytime you want. Find the Flight Deals Chicago had been on our wish list for a while so I started to scour the flight deals. Tuesdays are when the new flight deals are published so it’s just a waiting game to see when a deal will pop up for a city you are looking for. I receive email alerts for flight deals so I kept my eye on the weekly email to see if Chicago was included. We got lucky as there was a Seattle to Chicago flight deal that came up for travel over Veteran’s Weekend that was hard to pass up. It meant taking the late flight Friday and leaving early Monday but it was perfect timing for a weekend trip. Take Advantage of Hotel Perks I highly recommend joining the hotel rewards programs. For us, it means getting a room upgrade or offered a better room at check-in. It’s totally worth […]

It’s that time of year! When the mountains are calling, the snow is falling, and all it takes is a 2 hour flight to head to Steamboat Springs, Colorado.Years ago, I used to live in Steamboat and now I’m happy that I can make the annual trek back to the town and mountain. I still have my favorite trails, powder stashes, lifts, and spots around town that I enjoy visiting. We packed up our gear on Sunday morning, headed to SeaTac and hopped the direct flight from Seattle to Hayden/Steamboat Springs on Alaska Airlines. I even packed my adventure socks – because I was ready for adventure! It’s been hit or miss with winter conditions around the Western US. So far Steamboat Ski Resort had only received 142″ of snowfall but they’ve done an amazing job in getting the mountain 100% open and in good condition for skiing and snowboarding. While it looked like a storm would arrive during our stay, most of the morning reports were 1-2″ of snowfall – just enough to freshen up the mountain with a nice coat of white. I used my MAX pass to take care of my time on the slopes. No matter […]

Snowboarding in Alaska should be on everyone’s bucket list. The flight up is one of the most scenic, awe-inspiring journeys and the ride down the terrain that Alaska offers is even better. Whether it’s in-bounds at a resort or in the backcountry – there’s truly terrain for all ability levels. I’ve already done the backcountry snowboarding in Alaska during my Tailgate Alaska stint so I was very content with staying in-bounds just to explore Alyeska Resort on this trip. View from the tram looking over Girdwood I hopped a flight late Friday after the workweek, checked in my snowboard gear, and landed in Anchorage. Just a short drive later, I was arriving at the Alyeska Resort Hotel to start my weekend snowboard trip. I was traveling solo so I was very glad to have the help of the Alyeska staff to show me around the resort over the weekend. Woke up early Saturday to find blue skies, groomed corduroy, and a smile on my face. Top of the chairlift My tour guide around the mountain was Nicole who did a great job telling me about the terrain, snow this year, mountain features and what I had to check out while […]

One of my favorite places to visit has always been Bend, Oregon. The town is incredible; it’s full of breweries, people who love the outdoors, and a great mountain just down the highway. Mt Bachelor is pretty amazing, the lower mountain has an abundance of tree runs and groomers while the upper mountain above tree line has wide open steeps perfect for a powder day. Needless to say, I was really excited to visit again. We made it a weekend trip. Hopped a Horizon flight Friday night, rode Saturday, enjoyed town on Sunday and back home in Seattle Sunday night. Since it was raining in Seattle and sunny in Bend, it was the perfect opportunity to getaway to better weather. It really did deliver with the sunshine when we arrived. It hadn’t snowed in a couple days but that didn’t deter us from enjoying the mountain. We were really surprised that while it hadn’t snowed recently, the snow from the last storm was still plentiful in the trees. We ended up getting a couple laps with freshies on every run. All it took was just riding the trees to get it. All smiles for sunshine laps! While the mountain seemed […]
