Today is the feast of Senyor Santo Nino de Cebu. It turns 30 years today, meaning the Sinulog Festival had begun in 1980. HE is my number idol as I used to go to the Basilica when I was still studying in Cebu.

It has come down in history as the enduring native expression of prayer bridging the pagan years and Christian era today. Historical accounts say that before Portuguese navigator came to Cebu on April 7,1521 to plant the cross on its shore and claim the country for the King of Spain, Sinulog was already danced by the natives in honor of their wooden idols and anitos.

Then Magellan came, introduced Christianity and converted 800 natives in the island along with its rulers. He gave the Santo Niño (image of the Child Jesus ) as baptismal gift to Hara Amihan, wife of Rajah Humabon (Cebu’s chieftain), who was later named Queen Juana. Shortly after the conversion, Magellan fought the reigning ruler of Mactan, Rajah Lapu-lapu, with only a handful of men. He died in the encounter dating April 27, 1521.

The remnants of Magellan's men however were able to return to Spain to report the incident and the possibility of conquest. It took 44 years before a new group came and started the formal Christianization of the islands. Miguel Lopez de Legaspi arrived in Cebu on April 28, 1565. They bombarded the village and in one of the burning huts, one of his soldiers named Juan Camus found the image of the Santo Niño in a wooden box lying side by side with the native idols.Historians say that in between years of the coming of Magellan and Legaspi, the natives continued to dance the Sinulog.

Worst Snow Ever Hit UK

Heavy overnight snow has caused widespread disruption across much of eastern England and the Midlands. Road and rail services have been badly affected, there has been disruption to flights and all schools are closed. But unluckily, not my placement duty. How I wish....

As many people considered the snow blizzard as a disaster, but for me, it is joy. I really love it and will never say sorry to it. Children were playing sledge and so many snowmen being erected everywhere.

It was the heaviest snowfall in 18 years and the coldest winter for 100 years. Weather forecast still predicting that more snow to come over the next few days until the end of this month.

Others are suffering long delays and cancellations too. Several docks to the west have become iced up. And thousands are without piped water in Wales due to the frozen pipes. Hundreds of schools have been closed across the country and children at least are enjoying conditions.

The British like to complain that other countries handle the snow better than they do which is true. And we started to get panic even for the mildest snow.

That the merest sugaring of snowflakes brings normal life to a standstill amidst transport chaos. So why does it happen? Well truly icy conditions here are rare indeed. So why make a massive investment to combat extreme weather conditions that may not be replayed for another 18 years?

At an individual level the costs of being prepared like some Alpine countries would be high too. The British, for instance, are not required to have winter tyres fitted to cars at the start of the season, nor do they routinely carry snow chains.

On the other hand the Brits do like to complain, and secretly they also like being told... sorry you can't get to work.

But I do like snow. I'm like a child if this happened. Playing all the time and building snowman.

Treeman

As I browsed the internet, I found this very intriguing and a sad story of a man called by villagers as treeman. Dede Koswara first shot to worldwide attention in late 2007, when pictures first circulated of him suffering from a mysterious condition that meant large areas of his body were covered with bark-like growths.
At the time, medical experts were unable to diagnose his condition. But eventually US medic Dr Anthony Gaspari solved the puzzle - a rare genetic problem affecting Dede's immune system means he has been unable to fight a Human Papilloma Virus infection, causing his body to produce the tree-like warts.
The diagnosis meant Dede was able to start treatment for the condition, meaning the growths have been significantly reduced, improving his quality of life and enabling him to better take care of himself.

The Smallest Christmas Tree

This is considered as the smallest christmas tree ever seen. The smallest would be pretty tricky to decorate – because it measures less than half the width of a human hair. It is made from silicon with an ion beam, normally used on silicon chips, at Britain’s National Physical Laboratory.

Christmas Tree Underwater

This is a unique christmas tree which is erected underwater instead of the usual tradition. Christmas is not just for humans but for the marine habitat as well. And you know where is this from?

In the Philippines' Manila Ocean Park. The tree is decorated with starfishes, corals and seaweeds. What a creation. I really salute to this marvelous idea.

My birthday is over and finally, I found the time to publish my memorable day. How I wish that everyday is my birthday...heheheh. Not only my birthday but a joint birthday celebration for my kids like Bacon, Chez, Joro, Sweetie, Sikyu, Pinky, Bulilit, Panda and Booh.

I had so many guests all from our Filipino community together with their families. My house was rampaged with children screaming, running and playing. The food was courtesy of Orly's catering. It was my first time to have my party to be catered. The price is reasonable and no hassle anyway.

I confessed that my next party will be held in hall because my house is so small to accomodate all my guests and besides, I'm doing the preparation alone.

I'm showing you some photos of my recent trip to Warwick Castle in Warwick, Warwickshire, England. I've been there so many times since this is not far away from where I live.

This time, it's Halloween. I don't really celebrate this festival since I'm a devouted catholic and celebrating it means that you praise evil things. That's my perception and I have nothing against it.

Anyway, I was with my friend, Ruby from Germany who came over here for her holiday. As that was her first time to come over to England, I showed her the best in the Midlands and that is Warwick Castle.

The sound of 'Simples' will be heard under thousands of Christmas trees this year as Aleksandr Orlov gets a toy makeover.

In response to demands from fans of the velvet-jacket-loving comparethemeerkat.com star, 5000 will be going on sale in Harrods in December.

The toys will be sold at £19.95 each, with a donation from every one sold going to ZSL London Zoo, to help support their conservation work.

To celebrate the announcement an Aleksandr 'talking toy' made some new friends in the meerkat enclosure at London Zoo today.

As you know, Metro Manila and the neigbouring provinces were so very much affected by the monstrous and heavily rainy typhoon Ondoy. It submerged Metro Manila that left many homeless and dead.

As of now, the water is still there and it lowered down bit by bit. There are still evacuees in the schools and gymnasium. The volunteers and the relief goods keep on pouring to them.

There is no need to write more about it. Just read the previous stories for your reference.

Manila Was In Flood Calamity

Have a look to these horrific pictures during the massive flooding that hit Metro Manila and nearby provinces. This is my first time to see this type of flooding that affects most of the residents living near the river and the low lying areas.

There were no rich and poor during the calamity. Big houses and shanties were washed away and flooded up to 10 feet or more. Just imagine that.

Lessons learned about that and we must love our nature, don't abuse them so that she will not revenge to us.

I know that you are aware about the massive flooding the struck Metro Manila and Luzon when typhoon Ondoy battered the country with heavy rain equivalent to whole month of rain. It poured at once that is why, it resulted to massive flooding.

One of the cause of the flooding is the abuse of disposing waste products in Pasig River. People are not educated enough about the consequences when the environment will make her revenge.

This is a lesson for everyone. We must love earth and help us to preserve our nature. We must not abuse them. Proper disposal of waste is a must to be learned and actioned in order to have a healthy environment and avoiding the wraths of God.

Kanye West Apologised To Taylor Swift

Kanye West has called Taylor Swift to apologise for hijacking her acceptance speech at the MTV Video Music Awards. The rapper personally apologised to the 19-year-old country singer after first saying sorry on his blog and then on Jay Leno's new TV show. Kanye, 32, finally picked up the phone after Taylor talked about the controversial incident on US chat show The View, claiming she still hadn't heard from him.

"After the show he spoke personally to the country music superstar via telephone and has apologised to the 19-year-old singer," a statement released by The View said. "She has accepted Mr West's apology. The contents of the phone call are to remain private." Swift later told ABC News Radio: "He was very sincere in his apology and I accepted that apology."

The rapper was heavily criticised for storming the stage and ruining Taylor's acceptance speech when she scooped best female video for her hit You Belong With Me. He grabbed the microphone, declaring that Beyonce's video for Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It) was one of the "best of all time".

Kanye appeared close to tears while talking to talk show host Jay Leno saying: "It was rude, period."

"I need to, after this, take some time off and just analyse how I'm going to make it through the rest of this life, how I'm going to improve."

Balut and Penoy (Duck Eggs)

I'm just sharing this to you to know more about this type of egg which is a hit in the Philippines. If you are a Filipino, for sure, you know this.

In the Philippines and living in the urban cities like Manila or Cebu, chances are you already heard the roaming nighttime street vendor shouting "Baluuut . . . penoy!" He is actually selling two different kinds of incubated duck egg, "balut" and "penoy," which are usually sold together and carefully kept inside layers of cloth to keep them warm.

"Balut" and "penoy" are eaten as snack food. These are sold together as if one is given a choice of coffee or tea. Being known as "pampalakas ng tuhod," the vendor's shout is music to the ears of sleep- and food-starved night owls, who might be cramming to finish a report, reviewing for an exam, or just having a drinking session. As it has always been the perfect beer match, "balut" and "penoy" are thus good "pulutan."

"Balut" (or "balot") and "penoy" are two of the Philippine's real native culinary delicacies that originated from Rizal. Because of the market trade that happened via Laguna Lake, they are now popularly sold everywhere in the streets of neighboring provinces.

What makes these duck eggs extraordinary, especially "balut," is the visual grossness that one has to ignore to be able to eat it. "Balut" and "penoy" are not just simply boiled duck eggs that once shelled, will reveal an egg white and yolk. "Balut" is an incubated duck egg with 16- to 18-day-old embryo, while "penoy" is an infertile incubated duck egg or with dead embryo. Both are ready for consumption right after being boiled for 20-30 minutes.

Studies showed that these eggs, indeed, boost one's energy because of their protein ("balut" has 12.6 grams and "penoy" has 13.6 grams) and energy contents ("balut" has 181 calories, while "penoy" has 202 calories). These eggs are also good sources of vitamins B1 and B2, minerals, niacin, betacarotene, and others.

So, the next time you see a "balut" or "penoy," go on and take the challenge because there are more reasons to closing your eyes and munching these duck eggs than just plain adventure.

This Is Disgusting

I received this forwarded email from my friend and I found it so disgusting and I'm ashamed about this Philippine general caught on national TV in an embarrasing scene when a weirdo general was carried on someone else shoulder so he wouldn't get wet when he stepped out from the navy boat. Have you notice the american officer on the other hand waded on the water without any help.

He is showing his powers that the poor bodyguard should carry him to avoid his well polished boots don't get wet. How sarcastic it is. My recommendation? He should be put to court martial or be humiliated with the help of the press. And the worst, fire him for out of delicadeza.

He must be ashamed of what he had done. I doubt it if he got any left.

Cory Loses Her Battle, Died After A Long Battle

I just came back from my overtime duty in our hospital and I was busy doing facebook updates and at the same time, watching TFC (The Filipino Channel) when it was interrupted with a breaking news. I thought it was just an ordinary news but when I watched it seriously, I was shocked to know that former President Cory Aquino has died of her long battle of her stage 4 colon cancer early in the morning at 3:18 am.

Well, nobody is safe with that type of cancer but miracles may sometimes helpful. But I know that CORY is in God's hands for her good virtues and perfect job when she was the president.

One thing I am not sure if she has forgiven her enemies like Imelda Marcos and Pres. Gloria Arroyo. The statement by the Aquino family not to have a state funeral is a show of hatred and pride. She deserves to be treated with a state funeral as she is our heroine saving us from the dictatorship and tyranny of Marcos. I think, in my opinion, that is the main twist of not accepting the offer of having a state funeral and the politics is still in power and the opposition is trying to manipulate their chance to show to Pres. Arroyo about their hatred.

Well, democracy is not perform if this is their belief. Hope they can forgive and forget.
