90% of all the cool gadgets now-a-day’s are mainly focused on the people belonging to the age group of 19-35 years, but this cool bike here is aimed at striking a rapport with the kids from the age groups of 10-15 years, and at the same time inspiring these young minds to create the new gadgets of the future today.

The bike is a concept model designed by Claudia Baer, Anna Wiesinger and Marlene Klausner, who dared to think beyond the traditional boundaries of gadget design and created something for the budding minds of tomorrow. The bike has some really cool features that enable it to adapt itself in any kind of terrain and rough surroundings there exist, which have been possible only through the development of a unique frame that can stretch horizontally and adjust to the relative environment.

The frame has been incorporated with a comfortable looking seat that can be rotated through a wide range of angles which in turn makes the bike so user friendly that it can automatically adjust to the user’s height and even gender! which is a great advantage for most of the kids.

Mimicry Lamp Reflects Shades According to Your Choice

If you wish for a lamp flaunt its light’s color according to your mood, with an elegant and stylish design, then watch out for Mimicry, and as the name suggests, this lamp imitates the color of objects that is captured by its ‘eye’.

This design is a part of the project of Physical Computing designed by Ishac Bertran along with Dean McNamee. It is a lamp that imitates the color that’s captured by an ‘eye’, that’s made of wood, along with a sandblasted acetate sheet to diffuse the light.

This delicate piece consists of two individual and self contained objects, which are the lamp and the color sensing eye. As soon as you place an object against the eye, the color of that object is captured by the ‘eye’ and sent wirelessly to the lamp.

So as the lamp captures this new color, it gently shifts from its current color to the object’s newly captured color. As you will notice, the lamp adapts the ambient environment to express the object placed underneath.

This effective DIY color sensor was made from the spare available parts. A colored LED shines alternating red, blue, and green light out of the eye. The reflected light for each channel is measured with a photo resistor, and some computation is performed to derive the hue of the object, and transferred using XBee to the lamp.

Text Friendly iCalculator Tries to Ride Popular i-Wave

Long before cellphones, desktops and laptops were here, pocket radios and calculators were in vogue and they were accomplices of retro geeks. With the arrival of cellphones with inbuilt fm radios and calculators these old gadgets have lost popularity. Here is good old calculator being remodeled and sold as text friendly iCalculator for the new geek generation. This seems to be more of an attempt to ride the popular i-wave which is surging ahead thanks to iPhone and iPads.

The only innovation in the new design of calculator is the circular number and operation text key pad and the overall design resembling the classic iPod. Apparently it is more text friendly simple calculator for the texting generation. There seems to be something missing in the translation. Where exactly lies the innovation? For iPhones, cellphones, laptops all have inbuilt calculator so why would some geek carry an extra gadget? Maybe it is for the non geeks who shun the new techno products and still long for the return of simple gadgets like pocket radios and pocket calculators. With this one in hand they can easily strike a pose as geeks for it is deceptive and looks like some new igadget with circular keypad. This iCalculator costs $5 and is a good deal for students and people who still reach out for calculators.

Actually calculators will always be popular among students, so there may be takers for iCalculators and even other innovative ones like the Cool Water Powered Calculators and Lego Calculators.

Scriba Writing App Brings Back the ‘Lost Personal Touch’ in Writing

Writing letter is an art, we were often told in the childhood and among other things, care, precision and planning are some of the characteristics quintessential for coming up with a good piece of letter. No doubt it is still an art, but things have changed considerably. One can correlate it directly to the use of and dependence on Personal Computers and all of sudden, you don’t need the to worry about those essentials of good writing anymore. You can use the Backspace/Delete key to handle an error, thus forget about planning and precision, although if you observe them, time is reduced and quality is improved. But there is something more we had in mind when I said considerably… now you may not be writing a letter anymore, if you go for downloaded stuff and prefer just editing your initials and credentials… to create a letter/CV on the Go. That’s what we do, No? At least, me.

Quite agreeably, amidst all such convenience and ease of using PC for writing letters, Bio-data, CV, etc we lost the very ‘personal touch’ from the them. For example the piece of writing of mine that you are reading right now, would have had an altogether different experience for you had this was written by me in my handwriting. Ok, enough lamenting about it, lets see what we got and why we’re going through all this. Hence, for my friends, who missed the peculiarities of handwriting, there is hope in an application called as Scriba created by Ishac Bertran, Laura Boffi and Pedro Nakazato, which aims at restoring the lost personal touch of human handwriting to whatever is keyed into it.

Scriba is simply an application that will bring back the the nuances of handwriting back, in some rather predefined formats. It captures as you hit the keyboard and will present the text in handwriting formats predefined into it – and maybe an add-on may come which will allow you to define your handwriting style in the Scriba, very much possible, I say.

Various customizations are also involved, call them ‘feature’ candies. Like it will analyze the light and sound quality/quantum to have a understanding your environment, for whether it is good or unfriendly – only from writing point of view – in case of latter, your writing will get irregular and bend accordingly on the screen. Plus it may not correct the errors occurred while writing to retain what we called ‘personal touch’ – hope for options to customize some of the features.

So next time you write a love letter or such stuff to your close one, try impressing with Scriba – we presume your writing is capable of such, safely. Plus an old adage, one can judge the person through his writing.. looks like it is gonna get popular again, thanks to Scriba.

Big Daddies from Bioshock 2 protect the Little Sisters but players usually have to slay them in order to gain points. Big Daddies never attack unless provoked and due to their might structure and scary appearance, they could be termed as gentle giants. It is their foreboding looks that makes them look so cool, and when they are enraged, they make for a spectacle.

In fact, they make such a cool spectacle that someone decided to sculpt a tree in to a Big Daddy. All that this amazing sculptor used was a chainsaw and a tree, and after a long and arduous session, he creates what could be the coolest sculpture in the world.

The video is long and monotonous, but the transformation of a tree into a Big Daddy is quite amusing. You could also take a look at the cool Pacman Sand Sculpture if you are into retro games, the Alien Sculpture if you are into environment friendly art or the amazing Triceracopter Dinosaur Helicopter if you want something completely bizarre. Use ±Pole For Your Own Visual Explorations

For all the electronic gadget lovers, this retro and a practical design is just perfect for you to try and makes for a great Interactive visual presentation. This designed pole interactive installation has visuals that allow different users to play with wood pieces in a table, controlling elements projected on the floor in an appealing way.

The project by Ishac Bertran, who also brought the Linyl Light Records, was exhibited at the Final Exhibition of the Computational Design course and gives you an amazing platform for exploration. What’s interesting is that ±pole allows multiple users at a time to play with groups of particles and polarized elements by placing wood blocks on the table to control the digital elements all by themselves.

These colored visuals are developed with processing that consists of a system of particles that is affected by three types of elements controlled by wooden blocks of 3 different types: a generator that shoots the particles at a certain frequency, while attractors and deflectors create the force fields that affect the trajectories of the particles.

This cool gadget creates a complex system in real-time for experimentation while creating appealing visuals according to your own movements, just making it all the more fun. The table has a glass surface which is sandblasted to disperse the light. The visuals are captured by a camera using ReacTIVision.

You can use this gadget as a platform for your children to explore the world of science.

Use ±Pole For Your Own Visual Explorations

Standalone Tethered iPhone 3GS Jailbreak Possible with the iDongle Device?

It has been quite some time since the iPhone 3GS Jailbreak has been released, but ever since this specific jailbreak, newer iPhone 3GS models had to be connected to the computer in order to reboot and re-jailbreak their iPhone. There may be a new solution now with the new iDongle.

Preliminary Notes:

- This video was provided as a tip, so we have not tried this new iPhone 3GS jailbreak and do not know whether it does in fact work. Jailbreaking your iPhone is at your own discretion and responsibility.
- The iDongle claims to solve the tethering problem iPhone 3GS owners have had with a bootrom above 5.12.07*. It does NOT deal with jailbreaking iPhone OS 3.1.3. For the latter jailbreak, you can checkout How To Jailbreak iPhone 3.1.3 with Snowbreeze.

The new iPhone iDongle is a miniature device that claims to act as your tethered connection when in need to Jailbreak your iPhone 3GS (OS 3.1.2 and below). This iDongle savior takes care of the problem iPhone 3.1.2 3GS owners (with a bootrom above 5.12.07*) have had for quite some time. Those with this current bootrom and above have witnessed the wonderful Jailbreak by GeoHot for the 3GS in an extremely easy version. The major downfall is that if a Reboot is done or a hard reset, you must ‘re-jailbreak’ your iPhone. Even worst, in order to re-jailbreak, you must hook it up to your computer. Of course, this is a pain, but in the meantime, there hasn’t been a solution to that…until the iDongle.

As can be seen in the demo video, the iDongle simply connects to your iPhone (as the iPhone USB cable), but it is wireless, portable and is powered by a 9V battery. When in need of a reboot, the iDongle goes to work and acts as the jailbreaker of the iPhone 3GS. The video shows the process working and the simplicity, but there are a few unanswered (not yet proven) things that cannot be determined from the video alone, such as Bootrom version and authenticity of the presentation.

Still, those with Jailbroken iPhone 3GS that have the newer bootrom and have experienced this frustrating tethering problem know exactly how such a device is like a miracle worker. To be able not have to be connected in order to Jailbreak?! That would simply be heaven.

The iDongle is currently in limited supplies but as mentioned in source below, it is hopefully going to reach a wider market.
