What better way than to point out a few of my favorite things/people on TV. So let me save you the boring introduction and get right to it.

Favorite TV Parents: Cliff and Claire Huxtable (The Cosby Show)

I have seen many parents on TV land and none of them has chemistry like Cliff and Claire. At a time, I actually thought they were actually married in reality. The way they flow with themselves and with the children; it is phenomenal. I really hope they create a Cosby reunion movie of some sort just to see them together again

Favorite Family Unit: The Huxtables (The Cosby Show)

I love this family because of the love they share for themselves. Again, I have seen many families on TV and some of them don’t even act like they are a family. The Huxtables have this chemistry and genuine love amongst themselves that makes you want to be a part of the family. Love them.

Favorite Little Brother: Luke Dunphy (Modern Family)

Luke is adorable. From the things he says to the way he acts; he has this charm that I have not seen on television before. I just hope that when he grows older, he does not become another Cory Baxter (We love you Cory but as soon as you grew older, you lost us somewhere).

Favorite Little Sister; Olivia Kendall (The Cosby Show)

The “I’m a Woman” singer is by far the best little sister on TV. Smart, intelligent and very funny, Olivia remains the best addition to the Cosby Show. Whenever I watch reruns of the show, I always look forward to the Olivia moments especially the ones with Mr Cosby.

Favorite Older Brother: Theo Huxtable (The Cosby Show)

Theo was the only boy in the Huxtable household and I can say he is one of the most responsible brothers on television. He is not rebellious and actually listens to his father when he gives instruction; Theo is the perfect model older brother for anyone.

Favorite Older Sister: Ellie Bartwoski (Chuck)

Ellie is the older sister of Chuck and she practically raised him when their father left. The thing I love about Ellie is how smart, coordinated and caring she is; whilst having the best interest of her brother. Oh, and she is very pretty too

Favorite Best Friends: Georgia and Jo (State of Georgia)

Georgia and Jo are not your average best friends. They are genuine proof that opposites do attract. Even though it is portrayed in the show that Georgia is the bossy one whilst Jo is the one who will do whatever her best friend says; we can see that through all the years they have been friends, Georgia always has Jo’s back no matter what and considers their friendship valuable.

Favorite Couple: Nathan and Haley Scott (One Tree Hill)

In this category, I am tempted to put Lucas and Peyton or Chuck and Sarah or even Haley from Modern Family and her weird boyfriend but in the end; its Nathan and Haley. For the simple fact that Haley makes Nathan a better person is enough reason and the consistent love they have through the years. Love it.

Favorite Federal Agent: Jack Bauer (24)

I do not even think I need to say much. Mr Bauer gets the work done in 24hrs and he does it well. Love him

Favorite Superhero: Wolverine (X-Men Evolution)

Wolverine is the bomb! Let me point here that I have a soft spot for all things Marvel but even in the Marvel universe, Wolverine rocks! His personality is golden. His fighting skills are to die for, literally)

Favorite Villain: The Joker (Batman)

I think we all can agree that he is the villain of all villains. No point saying much.

Favorite Sidekick: Chloe (SmallVille)

I love her!!!!!!!!! She is the kind of sidekick that is not just brains. She has the brains and when it is time to fight she does a good job at it too.

Favorite Hospital: Seattle Grace (Grey’s Anatomy)

If I am ill, please take me to this hospital because I know I am with a set of doctors who will go all the way for me. And I think I would love to witness all the drama that goes on there.

Favorite Doctor: Dr. Bailey

This short black woman is one doctor you can trust your life with. Firm and strict, she is not a fan of too much drama. All she wants to do her job and her job is saving your life.

Favorite Cops: Hawaii 5-0 (2010 version)

These guys (and beautiful lady) are the best cops on TV land. The way they handle their business and catch all the bad guys, it’s too commendable. And they also know how to have a good time.

So these are my TV Land favorites. I am curious to read about yours. You could drop them as a comment or create a post on them and invite me to read.
I just want to talk. So I am going to say a few things. It may make sense. It may sound like gibberish but it is what it is.

Have you ever felt like life is happening and you are not doing what you are supposed to be doing? Ever felt like you have done it all; read the right books, put up affirmations on your bathroom mirror and prayed all the prayers necessary and still things don't change. Are you at that point were you just want to live your dreams but its like someone is doing that for you already? Its like you are doing all the "right" things but it seems they are not enough.

That's how I feel.

Its like I have this dream and I believe in it so bad. So I decide to live this dream. I do all that needs to be done and still there is no difference. Its like I am running this race and there is a huge wall in front of me that I can't seem to break or jump over so what I want to do is just sit with my back against the wall and wait; because I am tired. So here I am in the city of dreams, while everyone is getting theirs I am walking around, invisible.

A few months ago, I was online downloading random videos and I came across a song. It is by Lemonade Mouth. (Lemonade Mouth is a book that was turned into a Disney Channel Original Movie about a band called Lemonade Mouth). When I saw the video, I didn't know anything about the book band or movie and as at now I have not seen d movie or read the book. But the song I heard, was awesome. It was like the writer of the song knew exactly how I was feeling. How its like I am here, trying to be all I want to be but somehow I am still invisible, left with the feeling of an under achiever. The awesome thing about the song is how it expresses another part of me. A part that is saying even though its like I am invisible and insignificant, if I push harder and try again, my dreams will actually be my reality.

If you are out there feeling insignificant and invisible, I want to encourage you. The worst thing you can do to yourself is having the mindset that you cannot make a difference and that your dreams are "wishful thinking". The truth is simple "A dream is a wish your heart makes" and trust me "Dreams come true"

I still have low times. Times when I feel like the world is choking me and I want to let go. Just today, I thought about quitting Yada Magazine to chase other dreams. I am encouraged knowing that maybe if I can hold on a little longer and try a bit harder I can be all that I want to be more. Truth is we were meant to be Somebody... somehow it is going to happen... somewhere it will happen... Someday it will happen. All we have to do is wait.

He has promised. It will happen.

Here are the lyrics to the Lemonade Mouth song. Hope it blesses you as it blessed me.
Lemonade Mouth- Somebody
Can you see me
Cause I'm right here
Can you listen?
Cause I've been trying to make you notice
What it would mean to me
to feel like somebody
We've been on our way to nowhere
Tried so hard to get there
And I say Oh!
We're gonna let it show
We're gonna just let go of everything
Holding back our dreams
And try,
to make it come alive
Come on let it shine so they can see
We were meant to be,
Somebody (somebody), somebody yeah
Somehow, Someday, Someway
Someday!

I'm so tired
of being invisible
but I feel it, yeah!
Like a fire below the surface
trying to set me free
But inside of me
Cause we're standing on the edge now
it's a long way down
And I say Oh!
We're gonna let it show }
We're gonna just let go of everything
Holding back our dreams
And try,
to make it come alive
Come on let it shine so they can see
We were meant to be,
Somebody (somebody), somebody yeah
Somehow, Someday, Someway
Someday!
We will walk out of this darkness
feel the spot light glowing like a yellow sun,
oooohhhhh
and then we fall, we fall together
till we get back up and we will rise as one
oooohhhhh

Oh! we're gonna let it show
we're gonna just let go of everything
holding back our dreams
and try
to make it come alive
come on let it shine so they can see
we were meant to be somebody
somebody somebody Yeah somehow someday someway
somebody somebody..
Ooo oh

Till my next post,
I remain, The Talkaholic
www.yadamag.com
@BaldBlackBoy

Image from singlemom-nicole.blogspot.com

How can I feel something this deep for someone? It even hurts when the person you care so much for doesn't feel the same way for you.

I am not here to get all mushy and all but I want to ask a question... Do we love hoping that the person we are crazy about loves us back or do we love expecting nothing?

Folks, love is a lot of things but I know it is not solely based on butterflies, emotions or fickle feelings. Love is a decision. It is saying that no matter what happens I will be there for this person. Through thick and thin, I'll stand by this person. I will pray with this person when I have too. I don't care if the feelings are not mutual. Thankfully, love is not based on feelings. I will find out how the person is doing. I will be there to tell the person the truth even though the person doesn't want to hear it.

Its time we put aside our mushy feelings and decide to love. Truth is, loving someone could mean letting the person go despite how you "feel" for the person. It means standing aside and praying that maybe one day the person will love you back and that if they don't.... Well, life goes on.

God is teaching me so much about love and one major thing He has taught me is that love is sacrificial. Just as Christ laid down His life for us is the way we should lay down our desires for the ones we love when necessary.

It is hard. It is difficult. Your mouth may say Love is so last year but that's not what your heart is saying. Just keep at it. Do the things you wouldn't do. Go the extra mile. Lay down your desires for the other party. Think of the other person's needs before you think of yours. Be truthful with the person at all times. These are the things you will do when you love someone.

Till my next post

How is it going? I know you might be thinking that I am an inconsistent blogger but I am not. I have just being busy taking care of the Yada Magazine website. So whenever you don't see much activity here, visit the website and you can keep up with all I am doing.

I recently wrote an interesting post and I want you to check it out. It is on the Yada Magazine website and I will appreciate your comments. Click here for the post.

The subject of race is very sensitive amongst people but let us be real, it is an issue. We cannot deny the fact that in a place like America race is still very important. I am a Nigerian and I have lived in Nigeria practically all my life and race is not our issue but tribalism; even with that we see a particular tribe favoured more than another or we can see a particular tribe dominating a particular industry whether its music or its movies.

The concept of race was not existent in ancient times. Explorers travelled and met people different from them but they did not make a huge fuss about it. They used race to categorize people due to their physical and cultural differences. It was later that it was used to justify enslavement of “inferior” people and unfair treatment.

In a country like the United States, race becomes an issue in the sense that minority groups (African Americans, Hispanics, Asian-Americans, and Jews) have challenges in achieving certain things. That is why it was a big deal when Barack Obama became the President of the United States or when Ben Carson separated the Siamese twins or when Aretha won a Grammy.

To be honest, I think it is the same thing with Christian music or gospel music. From what I can see, it has been dominated by white people. Growing up, the gospel artists I knew were all white people; Don Moen, Bob Fitts, DC Talk and the Hillsong Music team. The only black people I knew were Kirk Franklin and Ron Kenoly. Sometimes, when my foreign peers are talking about legends in gospel music and they call Mahalia Jackson or The Clark Sisters, I am usually clueless because I did not grow up hearing them. It was in the late 90s that people like Out of Eden, Fred Hammond, Donnie McClurkin or Israel Houghton became popular around here.

Looking at Christian music in America, I will say its white dominated. Why? They dominate the media, their videos cross over on a regular, they win all the awards and they tend to top the charts. Is it because of racism? Definitely not. So what is the problem?

I feel it is because it seems like the African Americans Christian artists put themselves in a box. First, most African American artists make music only they will enjoy. It is as if they are signing for the black community alone. If that is the case, they should expect to remain only relevant in the black community and not global. If we look at the few black artists that have succeeded in making a name for themselves (Kirk Franklin, CeCe Winans), we see them experimenting with other things. In his new album, Kirk had a rock song with Tobymac. With that song, he was able to cut through cultural boundaries and he did not go there alone but asked for help from someone skilled in that area.

I am not condemning the efforts of the black artists, as I love most of them. The thing is that from here (Nigeria) all I can see are the white people. They are doing what they do best and are representing Jesus in the process. I feel black people should not be scared to go out of the box that society as created for them. Winning BET or NAACP awards and being on the cover of Ebony or Essence Magazine is not where it should end. We should try our best to break cultural/social barriers and let people love us for what we have to offer.

Race is not the issue but we can say it is the cause. Racial stereotypes and discrimination brought us to the point where there are two worlds; the black world and the white world. Now, all these are very long gone (I think). We can put aside these differences and work together; Black, White, Latino and make universal music that will affect and bless the people who will listen to it.

Remember, Act 13:47 says “For so hath the Lord commanded us, [saying], I have set thee to be a light of the Gentiles, that thou shouldest be for salvation unto the ends of the earth” (KJV). Our target is not people in our community but everyone everywhere.

"To love at all is to be vulnerable. Love anything and your heart will be wrung and possibly broken. If you want to make sure of keeping it intact you must give it to no one, not even an animal. Wrap it carefully round with hobbies and little luxuries; avoid all entanglements. Lock it up safe in the casket or coffin of your selfishness. But in that casket, safe, dark, motionless, airless, it will change. It will not be broken; it will become unbreakable, impenetrable, irredeemable. To love is to be vulnerable." (From The Four Loves)

I have no idea why but I hope blogger will fix the
problem soon.

How have you guys been? I know it has been a while and I do apologize
for that. I will try to blog often this new month. I miss Blogville
and the love in this place. I hope it is not fading though.

A few weeks back, I put up a blogpost that suggested I was going to
change my blog name to BaldBlackBoy. I got comments and they were
interesting. Some people said I was not going bald, some said they
loved the name while others were indifferent. I decided to leave the
blog name as it is. I buried the topic.

A few days back, I met someone and the first thing the person noticed
was that I was bald and he made it seem like I had some sort of
disease, asking how I coped with "baldness". You would have thought I
was living with cancer and I remembered my High School years.

I started balding at a pretty young age and my peers (guys in High
School) noticed that and they used it to tease me. I was not bullied
or anything (on the contrary, I was quite popular) but it really
affected my self-esteem. From that period, I decided to do everything
in my power to get my hair back. I started using hair growth creams to
try to get my hair to grow. I ignored the horrible smell the cream had
and used it anyways. I used this cream all through High School but my
hairline just kept receding.

I had built my self-esteem on how people saw me that even though some
of them joked about my baldness, it broke me and I kept wishing a
miracle would happen and I would have "normal" hairline like everyone
else. It was sad.

I entered the University and decided to take my Christianity
seriously. As my knowledge of God and who I was in Him begun to
increase, I realized that I had built my self-esteem on the wrong
things. I realized that it does not matter what the world sees me as,
what matters is how God sees me. I realized that God made me bald and
considered me a priceless work of art, display me in the forefront if
his gallery, looking at me every day and saying to himself "Look how
fine, Harry is". I became happy and began to focus on things that
actually matter. I also saved money because I stopped purchasing the
hair products.

People still tease me but it does not move me. I blame society for
giving every one labels. Our difference is what makes us unique and
special in God's eyes. The difference is what makes him smile. I feel
bad when I talk to people who have receding hairlines and they say
things like "they are worried about how they will look" or "they hate
their hair" or "they are scared that they will be bald at a young
age". It is the reason why I decided to use @BaldBlackBoy as my new
twitter handle. I have a theory that by a person's tweets you know
them. With this name, I am saying this "I am bald. Deal with it!" Do
not meet me for the first time and comment about my hair. Know the
kind of person I am first. Anyways, I have saved you the trouble. I am
a Bald Black Boy

On to Yada. I am pleased to announce that Yada Magazine has a new
look.
