I came across this article today and thought it was quite good. It reminded me of a blog I made some time ago when everyone seemed to be trying to portray Jesus as a Socialist.

What the Bible Teaches About Capitalism

As the Ten Commandments instruct, envy is corrosive to the individual
and to those societies that embrace it..

Who would have expected that in a Republican primary campaign the single
biggest complaint among candidates would be that the front-runner has
taken capitalism too far? As if his success and achievement were
evidence of something unethical and immoral? President Obama and other
redistributionists must be rejoicing that their assumptions about rugged
capitalism and the 1% have been given such legitimacy.

More than any other nation, the United States was founded on broad
themes of morality rooted in a specific religious perspective. We call
this the Judeo-Christian ethos, and within it resides a ringing
endorsement of capitalism as a moral endeavor.

Regarding mankind, no theme is more salient in the Bible than the
morality of personal responsibility, for it is through this that man
cultivates the inner development leading to his own growth, good
citizenship and happiness. The entitlement/welfare state is a paradigm
that undermines that noble goal.

The Bible's proclamation that "Six days shall ye work" is its
recognition that on a day-to-day basis work is the engine that brings
about man's inner state of personal responsibility. Work develops the
qualities of accountability and urgency, including the need for comity
with others as a means for the accomplishment of tasks. With work, he
becomes imbued with the knowledge that he is to be productive and that
his well-being is not an entitlement. And work keeps him away from the
idleness that Proverbs warns leads inevitably to actions and attitudes
injurious to himself and those around him.

Yet capitalism is not content with people only being laborers and
holders of jobs, indistinguishable members of the masses punching in and
out of mammoth factories or functioning as service employees in
government agencies. Nor is the Bible. Unlike socialism, mired as it is
in the static reproduction of things already invented, capitalism is
dynamic and energetic. It cheerfully fosters and encourages creativity,
unspoken possibilities, and dreams of the individual. Because the Hebrew
Bible sees us not simply as "workers" and members of the masses but,
rather, as individuals, it heralds that characteristic which endows us
with individuality: our creativity.

At the opening bell, Genesis announces: "Man is created in the image of
God"-in other words, like Him, with individuality and creative
intelligence. Unlike animals, the human being is not only a hunter and
gatherer but a creative dreamer with the potential of unlocking all the
hidden treasures implanted by God in our universe. The mechanism of
capitalism, as manifest through investment and reasoned speculation,
helps facilitate our partnership with God by bringing to the surface
that which the Almighty embedded in nature for our eventual extraction
and activation.

Capitalism makes possible entrepreneurship, which is the realization of
an idea birthed in human creativity. Whereas statism demands that
citizens think small and bow to a top-down conformity, capitalism, as
has been practiced in the U.S., maximizes human potential. It provides a
home for aspiration, referred to in the Bible as "the spirit of life."

The Bible speaks positively of payment and profit: "For why else should
a man so labor but to receive reward?" Thus do laborers get paid wages
for their hours of work and investors receive profit for their
investment and risk.

The Bible is not a business-school manual. While it is comfortable with
wealth creation and the need for speculation in economic markets, it has
nothing to say about financial instruments and models such as private
equity, hedge funds or other forms of monetary capitalization. What it
does demand is honesty, fair weights and measures, respect for a
borrower's collateral, timely payments of wages, resisting usury, and
empathy for those injured by life's misfortunes and charity.

It also demands transparency and honesty regarding one's intentions. The
command, "Thou shalt not place a stumbling block in front of the blind
man" also means that you should not act deceitfully or obscure the truth
from those whose choice depends upon the information you give them.
There's nothing to indicate that Mitt Romney breached this biblical code
of ethics, and his wealth and success should not be seen as automatic
causes for suspicion.

No country has achieved such broad-based prosperity as has America, or
invented as many useful things, or seen as many people achieve personal
promise. This is not an accident. It is the direct result of centuries
lived by the free-market ethos embodied in the Judeo-Christian outlook.

Furthermore, only a prosperous nation can protect itself from outside
threats, for without prosperity the funds to support a robust military
are unavailable. Having radically enlarged the welfare state and hoping
to further expand it, President Obama is attempting to justify his cuts
to our military by asserting that defense needs must give way to
domestic programs.

Both history and the Bible show the way that leads. Countries that were
once economic powerhouses atrophied and declined, like England after
World War II, once they began adopting socialism. Even King Solomon's
thriving kingdom crashed once his son decided to impose onerous taxes.

At the end of Genesis, we hear how after years of famine the people in
Egypt gave all their property to the government in return for the
promise of food. The architect of this plan was Joseph, son of Jacob,
who had risen to become the pharaoh's top official, thus: "Joseph
exchanged all the land of Egypt for pharaoh and the land became
pharaoh's." The result was that Egyptians became indentured to the ruler
and state, and Joseph's descendants ended up enslaved to the state.

Many on the religious left criticize capitalism because all do not end
up monetarily equal-or, as Churchill quipped, "all equally miserable."
But the Bible's prescription of equality means equality under the law,
as in Deuteronomy's saying that "Judges and officers . . . shall judge
the people with a just judgment: Do not . . . favor one over the other."
Nowhere does the Bible refer to a utopian equality that is contrary to
human nature and has never been achieved.

The motive of capitalism's detractors is a quest for their own power and
an envy of those who have more money. But envy is a cardinal sin and
something that ought not to be.

God begins the Ten Commandments with "I am the Lord your God" and
concludes with "Thou shalt not envy your neighbor, not for his wife, nor
his house, nor for any of his holdings." Envy is corrosive to the
individual and to those societies that embrace it. Nations that throw
over capitalism for socialism have made an immoral choice.

Honor Killings??

I have but one simple question. Why does the media refer to these as "honor killings?" I see no honor involved in this whatsoever. Every time the media refers to these cases as "honor killings" they give credence to this cowardly act of murder.

KINGSTON, ONTARIO – A jury on Sunday found an Afghan father, his wife and their son guilty of killing three teenage sisters and a co-wife in what the judge described as "cold-blooded, shameful murders" resulting from a "twisted concept of honor" in a case that shocked and riveted Canadians.

Prosecutors said the defendants allegedly killed the three teenage sisters because they dishonored the family by defying its disciplinarian rules on dress, dating, socializing and using the Internet.

The jury took 15 hours to find Mohammad Shafia, 58; his wife Tooba Yahya, 42; and their son Hamed, 21, each guilty of four counts of first-degree murder. First-degree murder carries an automatic life sentence with no chance of parole for 25 years.

After the verdict was read, the three defendants again declared their innocence in the killings of sisters Zainab, 19, Sahar 17, and Geeti, 13, as well as Rona Amir Mohammad, 52, Shafia's childless first wife in a polygamous marriage.

Their bodies were found June 30, 2009, in a car submerged in a canal in Kingston, Ontario, where the family had stopped for the night on their way home to Montreal from Niagara Falls, Ontario.

The prosecution alleged it was a case of premeditated murder, staged to look like an accident after it was carried out. Prosecutors said the defendants drowned their victims elsewhere on the site, placed their bodies in the car and pushed it into the canal.

Ontario Superior Court Judge Robert Maranger said the evidence clearly supported the conviction.

"It is difficult to conceive of a more heinous, more despicable, more honorless crime," Maranger said. "The apparent reason behind these cold-blooded, shameful murders was that the four completely innocent victims offended your completely twisted concept of honor ... that has absolutely no place in any civilized society."

In a statement following the verdict, Canadian Justice Minister Rob Nicholson called honor killings a practice that is "barbaric and unacceptable in Canada."

Defense lawyers said the deaths were accidental. They said the Nissan car accidentally plunged into the canal after the eldest daughter, Zainab, took it for a joy ride with her sisters and her father's first wife. Hamed said he watched the accident, although he didn't call police from the scene.

After the jury returned the verdicts, Mohammad Shafia, speaking through a translator, said, "We are not criminal, we are not murderer, we didn't commit the murder and this is unjust."

His weeping wife, Tooba, also declared the verdict unjust, saying, "I am not a murderer, and I am a mother, a mother."

Their son, Hamed, speaking in English said, "I did not drown my sisters anywhere."

Hamed's lawyer, Patrick McCann, said he was disappointed with the verdict, but said his client will appeal and he believes the other two defendants will as well.

But prosecutor Gerard Laarhuis welcomed the verdict.

"This jury found that four strong, vivacious and freedom-loving women were murdered by their own family in the most troubling of circumstances," Laarhuis said outside court.

"This verdict sends a very clear message about our Canadian values and the core principles in a free and democratic society that all Canadians enjoy and even visitors to Canada enjoy," he said to cheers of approval from onlookers.

The family had left Afghanistan in 1992 and lived in Pakistan, Australia and Dubai before settling in Canada in 2007. Shafia, a wealthy businessman, married Yahya because his first wife could not have children.

Shafia's first wife was living with him and his second wife. The polygamous relationship, if revealed, could have resulted in their deportation.

The prosecution painted a picture of a household controlled by a domineering Shafia, with Hamed keeping his sisters in line and doling out discipline when his father was away on frequent business trips to Dubai.

The months leading up to the deaths were not happy ones in the Shafia household, according to evidence presented at trial. Zainab, the oldest daughter, was forbidden to attend school for a year because she had a young Pakistani-Canadian boyfriend, and she fled to a shelter, terrified of her father, the court was told.

The prosecution said her parents found condoms in Sahar's room as well as photos of her wearing short skirts and hugging her Christian boyfriend, a relationship she had kept secret. Geeti was becoming almost impossible to control: skipping school, failing classes, being sent home for wearing revealing clothes and stealing, while declaring to authority figures that she wanted to be placed in foster care, according to the prosecution.

Shafia's first wife wrote in a diary that her husband beat her and "made life a torture," while his second wife called her a servant.

The prosecution presented wire taps and mobile phone records from the Shafia family in court to support their honor killing allegation. The wiretaps, which capture Shafia spewing vitriol about his dead daughters, calling them treacherous and whores and invoking the devil to defecate on their graves, were a focal point of the trial.

"There can be no betrayal, no treachery, no violation more than this," Shafia said on one recording. "Even if they hoist me up onto the gallows ... nothing is more dear to me than my honor."

Defense lawyers argued that at no point in the intercepts do the accused say they drowned the victims.

Shafia's lawyer, Peter Kemp, said after the verdicts that he believes the comments his client made on the wiretaps may have weighed more heavily on the jury's minds than the physical evidence in the case.

"He wasn't convicted for what he did," Kemp said. "He was convicted for what he said."

I saw this on a friend's facebook page today. It infuriated me because I know this friend to be a conservative, yet even he was buying into this demonization of the rich. This statement is a big load of garbage!! The deficit was caused by the government spending spending spending money it does not have...not by tax breaks for the wealthy. The wealthy are the job creators in this country and their businesses are what grow the economy. If people keep buying into this "evil rich" villainization, they're going to painfully find out just how bad the economy and unemployment can be. The lefties love to start class warfare at every corner. It allows them to rally the poor and lazy welfare collectors and government subsidy leeches who will aggressively vote for whoever promises them a free ride!!!

Meet Ron Paul...Anti-Semite and Racist Extraordinaire

Did anyone else read the story a couple of days ago about the mother who got high on methamphetamines, killed her two kids, two others, shot her husband, and then killed herself? Yes, folks, Ron Paul thinks it would be harmless to legalize drugs in this country. Along with ideas such as this regarding domestic policy come even more disturbing views on foreign policy, like the naive idea that Iran is no threat to us and we shouldn't so much as raise an eyebrow regarding their plans to develop nuclear weapons.

For years he has snuggled up to crazy conspiracy theorists like Alex Jones and been responsible for numerous anti-semitic and racist articles throughout the 80's and 90's in his newsletter. Apparently Paul has given an excuse to the latter by stating that he never read what was printed in his newsletters. Whether he did or not, the newsletters were titled, "Ron Paul's Freedom Report," "Ron Paul's Survival Report," "Ron Paul's Political Report," and "Ron Paul's Investment Newsletter," and the majority of the articles were written in the first person. I come from a land of common sense and logic where, if I choose to put my name on a newsletter, article, or periodical of any type, that means I either wrote it myself or endorse it wholeheartedly as my viewpoint. I find it impossible to believe that the American voter has accepted this lame excuse from Mr. Paul...oh wait...no I'm actually not, as the American voter accepted a lot bogus excuses from another candidate regarding the "strange bedfellows" he was known to be friends with just four years ago. Look where that got us!! All of this information was recently brought to light, AGAIN, by an article written by James Kirchick for the Weekly Standard . Here is a short excerpt:

“Order was only restored in L.A. when it came time for the blacks to pick up their welfare checks,” read a typical article from the June 1992 “Special Issue on Racial Terrorism,” a supplement to the Ron Paul Political Report. Racial apocalypse was the most persistent theme of the newsletters; a 1990 issue warned of “The Coming Race War,” and an article the following year about disturbances in the Adams Morgan neighborhood of Washington, D.C., was entitled “Animals Take Over the D.C. Zoo.” Paul alleged that Martin Luther King Jr., “the world-class philanderer who beat up his paramours,” had also “seduced underage girls and boys.” The man who would later proclaim King a “hero” attacked Ronald Reagan for signing legislation creating the federal holiday in his name, complaining, “We can thank him for our annual Hate Whitey Day.”

It is incredibly disturbing that this nutjob is being allowed to run for President as a Republican. It is far more disturbing that he is coming in 2nd or 3rd in the primaries. This man is clearly a fringe lunatic who's cultlike following seems to be, at the least, incredibly naive. If you make the mistake of attempting to debate a "Paulbot" you are sure to learn one thing. Paulbots accept everything uttered by their messiah, Ron Paul, without question. If you ask them to reference facts to back up their claims, they will reference something Ron Paul said, or depending on their level of schizophrenia, will show youtube videos from one of Alex Jones many fear-injected websites of madness, like Infowars.

My mother used to say, "There are more of them walking around than there are locked up." As I grow older, I am seeing that not only was my mother correct, but the ratio of "walking around" to "locked up" has now grown to the point that a complete lunatic can pull 20% of the popular vote in the Republican Party. Be afraid folks!! Be very afraid!!

My Thoughts On The Urinating Marines

Reason #36 why I can't wait to retire...In light of the recent headlines concerning Marines here in Afghanistan, I've been told I have to sit all of my Marines down and give them a period of instruction explaining to them that it is not okay to urinate on dead enemy combatants. Really??? Seriously??? I can just see all the bourgeois mo-mo's sitting around at a meeting saying, "if only we had told all the Marines that this isn't an okay practice." That is the line of thinking that has become of the military...last I checked these were grown adults that should already know better. What a waste of time!!

Ever since this story broke I have been hearing everyone's varying opinion on the matter, and to be completely honest, I am disappointed with both arguments I'm hearing. On one side I hear the judgmental holier-than-thou's who are outraged and wish to immediately crucify all of the Marines involved. On the other side I hear a boisterous "eye for an eye" crowd who seem to actually be cheering on the act of urinating on dead combatants, justifying it by stating what the enemy has done to our armed forces and innocent civilians. This is my official opinion on the matter, knowing already that I will get a lot of grief from many who read this blog.

While I do not think it is this horrific act that should ruin their lives forever, it is not an acceptable act whatsoever. We (The United States and The Marine Corps) pride ourselves on our professionalism and the honor of defending the greatest Country in the World. We became the mighty United States of America by standing on morals and principles that are above this type of behavior. If everyone would stop looking at this from an emotional perspective (on both sides of the debate) and start looking at it from a logical one, they will see that if we celebrate this type of behavior, we lower ourselves to their level and are no better than the indecent animals we are fighting. Additionally, if we allow our emotional outrage of the act to overshadow what a rightful punishment for the crime should be, that will be equally sickening. These Marines made a mistake and should face punishment, but they should not be sent to the brig for twenty years just for the purpose of being politically correct and/or to appease an enemy combatant that is arguably the most brutal and inhumane to be witnessed on this earth.

Okay, I have not been posting since arriving in country in mid-September, other than the self-gratifying pompous post about the article written on me in November. I seem to have hit a lull in the action over here and thanks to one of my blogging buddies, Kim Jossfolk, who writes the "Just a Conservative girl" blog I have been inspired to try and get this site of my many rantings and pontifications started again. I have written a lot in a notebook of what I have seen over here so far and will be attempting to add some of it, along with my opinions on things at a somewhat regular clip. So, for those who used to enjoy reading my blog before (all 30 or so) but gave up on me months ago, I shall attempt to redeem myself over the coming months. Plus, I'm also sure all of the atheists and Ron Paul supporters have missed posting hateful comments here as well.

Memorial Day Tribute

This is my early Memorial Day tribute, as I leave in the morning for a month of field training in lovely Twentynine Palms, CA. For those who do not know of Twentynine Palms, you'll have to trust me that it is not a beautiful resort like the name implies.

Please take time this coming weekend to remember those who gave the ultimate sacrifice throughout our nations history so that we might be able to enjoy our barbeque's and family get-togethers. They are the true heroes of our nation. We are deeply indebted to them each day that we wake and are able to freely seek and pursue whatever endeavors we so choose. God Bless the brave men and women who have stood courageous and offered up their lives for our freedom

Let me start this article by saying this: I confess from the start that this is a very, very passionate issue for me. I am not a fan of Ron Paul, and I respond with passion and sometimes vitriol at times when I am confronted with Paulites (my term for those who are devout Ron Paul supporters). I freely admit that I have an axe to grind here, but I deny that my agenda is a result of irrational or unhealthy dislike. In fact, I am going to argue that it is all that I like about Ron Paul that has made me so passionately opposed to him.

I am writing this article for one of two categories of Ron Paul supporters: The well-meaning folks who appreciate Ron Paul’s rhetoric regarding freedom and limited government. The other category of Ron Paul supporters, those who are consciously self-aware in their belief that America is a bad guy military bully, and needs to sit idly by in an isolationist sense as a matter of foreign policy, are not the target of this article. I disagree with them with every ounce of breath in my body, but I have no hope that I might be able to persuade them. The latter group is aware of the things I am going to say in this article, and they do not care. I am hopeful that the former group will feel that the facts I present in this piece are new information, and warrant a change in their perspective.

I am an advocate of the freedom movement in this country. I believe, along with Ron Paul, that the United States federal government has morphed into an egregious behemoth, violating its own Constitutional jurisdiction on a daily basis. I believe that the federal government was created by the people, for the people, and that if we do not reign in its size and jurisdiction, it will one day represent the end of the Republic (fortunately, I have every confidence that we will be successful in that endeavor, incrementally). I have spent the last fifteen years studying economics and finance, and believe that Ron Paul has some wise things to say on the subject of a strong U.S. dollar. I am not a pure Austrian economist, as Paul is, but I was heavily influenced by many of their leaders when I first became obsessed with the subject, and believe there is a lot to be learned from Von Mises and some of the early Austrian economists.

But my love of freedom economics and my desire for a limited, Constitutionally-constrained federal government has not caused me to jump on the Ron Paul bandwagon. In fact, and this is the most important line I will write in this article, it is my deep appreciation for where Ron Paul is right that has caused me to so emphatically reject him where he is wrong.

Put differently, Ron Paul is his own worst enemy, and because I care so much for the freedom movement, I believe Ron Paul and his more extremist followers are doing irreparable harm to that very cause in our country. How could I possibly jump on that bandwagon?

I want to start my indictment of Ron Paul where I will surely end it: With the linking of Ron Paul to the fanatical Lew Rockwell. It is dangerous ground when one seeks to take down a person by simply associating him with someone else. As we all know, it is actually a logical fallacy of the first order. But that’s not what I’m doing here because Ron Paul is not merely “associated” with Lew Rockwell; he is Lew Rockwell. And he makes no attempt to deny this or cover it up.

I encourage those of you who are wondering what I am talking about to go spend some time athttp://www.lewrockwell.com/. It is one of the most insidious properties in the entire web universe. I believe that those of you who are in that camp of Ron Paul followers I am trying to reach may conclude that Ron Paul does not deserve to be linked to Lew, but I do not believe you will attempt to defend this man and his extremist and vile views. My challenge is this: go spend ten minutes on Lew’s website every day for one month, and then decide if you have the stomach to support Ron Paul. In that month you are likely to hear that Winston Churchill was a worse war criminal than Joseph Stalin or Adolf Hitler. You will hear celebration that Tony Snow died of cancer (because he did, after all, support the Iraq war). You will find out that Lew believes the Constitution is a statist document. You will read that the men and women serving our military are despicable little immoral creatures, trained to kill innocent parties. I do not need to rhetorically beat up on Lew; he will be his own best accuser. The man is beyond the pale, and the only possible justification for someone supporting Ron Paul after becoming familiar with Lew Rockwell is that one just does not believe that the two are one and the same. But this is an irrefutable fact. Allow me to continue …

I became familiar with Lew Rockwell and Ron Paul in the mid-1990’s after being introduced to Murray Rothbard, the now deceased Austrian economist. Rothbard and my dad died around the same time, and I became fascinated with the intersection of Austrian economics and the freedom movement. I attended every Von Mises Institute conference I could find, and read every book their movement ever published. Ron Paul spoke at every one of these events, and when I wasn’t listening to John Denton say that America had no business getting into World War II, or Bob Barr saying that the federal government (not Tim McVeigh) blew up the building in Oklahoma City, I was intrigued by much of what their movement had to say. As I got older and wiser, I began to realize that the heir of Friedrich Hayek was Milton Friedman, not Murray Rothbard, and that this “Austrian economics movement” was a front for an extremist form of anti-war zealotry. Every single conference break was filled with the most radical of conspiracy theorists you have ever heard, and the political intentions of the major brains behind their operation were not hidden: utter anarchy. If I had a nickel for every time someone suggested that insurance companies could come replace the federal government in a given task, I would have a lot more nickels than these people have. But it was an educational experience for me, and my transition out of it began before 9/11. It was 9/11 that completed my paradigm shift away from all these people stood for.

I spent several hours speaking with Ron Paul shortly after 9/11. He informed me that the Islamist threat was a made up one, just as the Communist threat of the 1950’s and 1960’s was. He told me, to my face, in his own words, that Lew Rockwell and his people were the only ones calling a spade a spade: America did deserve what the Islamists were trying to do to us, and if we simply learned to leave them alone, they would in turn leave us alone. It was among the most despicable and disappointing conversations I have ever had with another adult. (I think the conversation I had with Lew Rockwell where I asked him why they never have Thomas Sowell speak at their conferences was another one; he informed me that Sowell was an American propagandist who was a puppet for the war machine and an economic ignoramus; it’s Austrian or bust for Rockwell).

Any cursory glance at Lew’s website shows that Ron Paul has written hundreds of articles for Lew. Rockwell was Paul’s chief of staff from 1978 to 1982, a period of time where some have told me that Lew still had some degree of sanity. Lew has published Ron’s books. He has Paul speak at nearly every one of his conferences (to this day). And he sometimes accompanies Paul in campaign travels. Lew Rockwell is widely known to be the man who ghost-wrote for Ron Paul throughout the 1980’s and 1990’s. I don’t really need to elaborate on the connection between the two – neither one of them will make any attempt to deny it. The two are joined at the hip politically, financially, and ideologically (Ron Paul’s newsletter claimed income of $940,000 in 1993). Lew was the vice-chair of Paul’s Presidential exploratory committee. The two are close friends, and while Lew Rockwell does not have the name recognition that Ron Paul does, their careers and missions have been completely over-lapped for three decades.

The question is, “what is such a big deal?” Lew Rockwell ghost-writing some of the most vile and racist garbage you have ever seen for Ron Paul is one thing, but it is not the subject of my critique here. I would suggest to my readers who are fond of the Congressman, that he is indeed responsible for his associations. One cannot spend thirty years connected to holocaust-deniers, anti-semites, and explicit anarchists without red flags going up. For what it is worth, I do not believe Ron Paul is a holocaust denier or an anti-semite. I think he is worse. I think he is a coward. Ron Paul knows full well that his closest connections are a mixed bag of the most extremist sort of anarcho-capitalists you have ever seen. He refuses to engage these subjects. He does not publicly dispute their claims. He sits on the sideline, collecting $30 million in campaign contributions as a candidate who has never won a single state primary (in what seems like a million attempts, starting in 1988), but is never asked to separate himself from his indefensible friends. It is appalling.

I am happy to focus my article about Ron Paul on his extraordinary errors in matters of foreign policy, but the sad reality is that Ron Paul is entitled to believe that America is the source of the world’s woes (which he does believe), that America has provoked the Islamist butchers (which he does believe), and that America can function just fine by simply ignoring everybody all over the world. The analogy I have used is this: If I had a roommate, and an intruder came into our apartment with a weapon, and my roommate informed me that he did not believe the intruder was really a threat, I would not focus my efforts on persuading my roommate that the man was a threat. I would focus my efforts on the intruder.

Thus, I do not care if Ron Paul and his followers do not believe that the Jihadists are a threat to the United States of America. Delusions abound. I care that the people who lead our country at least believe that the jihadists are a threat, and as long as Ron Paul continues to lose every single primary he ever enters, I have no fears that the United States will ever adopt a foreign policy that says “you have to wait until the intruder is at your borders to respond” (the explicit foreign policy of Ron Paul). In 2008 this man stood on the stage at a Republican candidate debate and said that “the 9/11 hijackers were just a few thugs with box-cutters.” His foreign policy worldview is not merely one of opposing U.S. intervention in Iraq and Afghanistan; he believes that America is the provocateur in global activity. His worldview would never allow America to properly defend herself. Now, reasonable people can disagree about this subject (and many know I was once dangerously influenced by the perspective of the isolationists as well). My concern is not Ron Paul’s errors on this subject. My concern is that he has used the freedom movement to generate name recognition and fame, and then through sleight of hand converted the popularity over his limited government rhetoric to promote an agenda of anti-Americanism and military isolationism.

I believe America is spending itself into oblivion. I believe that the Fed has embarked on a Keynesian mission that is going to result in dramatic monetary price inflation and currency depreciation. I believe the federal government has over-stepped its boundaries in nearly every single category one could imagine. But I do not see Ron Paul making a dent in any of these causes. Besides accusing Ben Bernanke in a Congressional panel a couple years ago of the Fed being involved in Watergate and secretly funneling money to Saddam Hussein, Ron Paul’s role in advancing the cause of limited government and a monetary policy of common sense is, shall we say, minimal. He uses every opportunity when in front of a microphone to advance the cause of military isolationism. It is a tragedy. Somehow, some way, this guy has an audience, and he really does have an opportunity to impact the cause of freedom. But the tragedy of Ron Paul is that he has chosen to be more of a puppet for Lew Rockwell and the modern-day John Birchers of our society than he has for a sensible kind of freedom economics. I suppose it is somewhat explainable that many evangelicals have been lured in by his rhetoric. But if I told you a few years ago that one of the most popular names in evangelical politics was going to be the only guy in the race who supported gay marriage and the legalization of prostitution, would you have believed me? Paul has a prima facie case for both (though he is also wrong on both), but how many evangelicals do you think even know of Paul’s views on these subjects? I don’t think very many do, and the reason why is because Ron Paul rarely discusses these matters. His platform to promote a “blame America first” foreign policy is so important to him, that he will not jeopardize his “credibility” by publicly saying in the national media that he believes “Abraham Lincoln was a warmonger,” or that “the cold war was a figment of our imaginations”. He believes that America is a malignant “dictatorship,” yet somehow has been accepted into the mainstream of American politics.

American citizens have fallen for a handful of creepy characters over the years in one way or another (Ralph Nader, Lyndon Larouche, etc.), but this is different. Ron Paul’s core audience is made up of people who should know better. If we need to have a fair conversation about American foreign policy, let’s have it. But associating with the most ghastly of characters in Libertarianism is unforgivable, and we must do better. One does not receive a hall pass to be a lunatic, or to support lunacy, just because they get a few things right. Ironically, one of the defining selling points for Ron Paul is his alleged commitment to the Constitution. But this is what Paul’s chief-of-staff and ghostwriter, Lew Rockwell, has to say about the Constitution:

He argued that [the Constitution] represented a vast increase in government power and that this was its true purpose. It created a powerful central government, with the cover of liberty as an excuse. He used it as a case in point, and went further to argue that all constitutions are of the same type. In the name of limiting government — which they purportedly do — they invariably appear in periods of history when the elites are regrouping to emerge from what they consider to be near anarchy. The Constitution, then, represents the assertion of power.

When he finished, you could hear a pin drop. I’m not sure that anyone was instantly persuaded. He had challenged everything we thought we knew about ourselves. The applause was polite, but not enthusiastic. Yet his points stuck. Over time, I think all of us there travelled some intellectual distance. The Constitution was preceded by the Articles of Confederation, which Rothbard had described as near anarchist in effect. Who were these guys who cobbled together this Constitution? They were the leftovers from the war: military leaders, financiers, and other mucky mucks — a very different crew from the people who signed the Declaration of Independence. Jefferson was out of the country when the Constitution was passed.

And what was the effect of the Constitution? To restrain government? No. It was precisely the opposite, just as Hoppe said. It created a new and more powerful government that not only failed to restrain itself (what government has ever done that?), but grew and grew into the monstrosity we have today. It required a wholesale rethinking of the history, but what Hoppe had said that shocked everyone turns out to be precisely right — and this is only one example among many.

I’m speaking for multitudes when I say that he helped me understand democracy as a form of nationalization of the citizenry. We all became the government: or, we all became public property. And what happens to public property? It is overutilized and wasted because it is unowned by any one person or group of people in particular. Thus did the citizens become war fodder. We are taxed without limit. We have no way to restrain the state since no one in particular is made responsible for our plight. Our leaders are mere managers — not owners, like the monarchs — who are encouraged to loot and leave. They are there as covers for the real state, which is a faceless apparatus that is permanent and cares nothing for the value of the commonwealth.”

My challenge to Ron Paul and his benign followers is this: Come out and tell us if you agree with Lew Rockwell that the Constitution is a flawed document which invites statism. Tell us if you believe that the Winston Churchill statue at Hillsdale College is a travesty. Tell us if Abe Lincoln, FDR, Ronald Reagan, and George Bush are warmongers. I already know you believe all of this. And I am ready to engage that discussion.

But before we have that discussion, you have to tell your fans who you are. You told me face to face who you are: an anti-war zealot who believes America is an imperialistic dictatorship. Are your fans really cut from the same cloth?

I don’t believe the bulk of them are. But we cannot begin separating this all out until someone is willing to put their cards on the table. As someone who loves freedom, and believes that a more intelligent kind of conservatism must be presented to our citizenry, I am tired of the rhetoric of freedom and fiscal responsibility that comes from Ron Paul being tainted by his extremist views and lunatic friends. Let’s find a new national spokesman – someone who does not belittle the events of 9/11 as “just a few thugs with box-cutters.” There is a lot of work to be done. I encourage my friends who share a love for the freedom movement to rally behind the efforts of someone who is serious about getting it done.

Fundamentally, even people who are appalled at the Ron Paul connection to Lew Rockwell may still have a beef with me over the issue of foreign policy: There is a sort of trendiness to the idea that “America is not the policeman of the world” and I have seen more people quote President Eisenhower on the dangers of the “military industrial complex” in the last two years than I ever thought possible. I will live with my differences between the Paulites and myself over foreign policy. America is the leader of the free world, and that is a descriptive fact, not really worthy of being haggled over.

Our responsibility to defend ourselves and our way of life is totally and completely incompatible with Ron Paul’s view of foreign policy. America’s moral responsibility in preventing genocide is indisputable. If at the end of the day, a group of folks attracted to the rhetoric of freedom ideology believe that their objectives can be obtained without a strong and muscular foreign policy, they will find out the hard way that they are wrong. The ability of the United States to deter Jihadists, and better yet, to kill them before they kill us, will be the foundational condition on which a future “freedom at home” may be built. We are at war. We did not start the war. I hope and pray Ron Paul’s followers will come around on this. I know what will change their minds, and I do not like it.

Divorce Agreement

Dear American liberals, leftists, social progressives, socialists, Marxists and Obama supporters, et al:

We have stuck together since the late 1950's for the sake of the kids, but the whole of this latest election process has made me realize that I want a divorce. I know we tolerated each other for many years for the sake of future generations, but sadly, this relationship has clearly run its course.

Our two ideological sides of America cannot and will not ever agree on what is right for us all, so let's just end it on friendly terms. We can smile and chalk it up to irreconcilable differences and go our own way.

Here is a model separation agreement:

--Our two groups can equitably divide up the country by landmass each taking a similar portion. That will be the difficult part, but I am sure our two sides can come to a friendly agreement. After that, it should be relatively easy! Our respective representatives can effortlessly divide other assets since both sides have such distinct and disparate tastes.

--We don't like redistributive taxes so you can keep them.

--You are welcome to the liberal judges and the ACLU.

--Since you hate guns and war, we'll take our firearms, the cops, the NRA and the military.

--We'll take the nasty, smelly oil industry and you can go with wind, solar and biodiesel.

--You can keep Oprah, Michael Moore and Rosie O'Donnell. You are, however, responsible for

finding a bio-diesel vehicle big enough to move all three of them.

--We'll keep capitalism, greedy corporations, pharmaceutical companies, Wal-Mart and Wall Street.

--You can have your beloved lifelong welfare dwellers, food stamps, homeless, homeboys, hippies, druggies and illegal aliens.

--We'll keep the hot Alaskan hockey moms, greedy CEO's and rednecks.

--We'll keep the Bibles and give you NBC and Hollywood .

--You can make nice with Iran and Palestine and we'll retain the right to invade and hammer places that threaten us.

--You can have the peaceniks and war protesters. When our allies or our way of life are under assault, we'll help provide them security.

--We'll keep our Judeo-Christian values.

--You are welcome to Islam, Scientology, Humanism, political correctness and Shirley McClain. You can also have the U.N. but we will no longer be paying the bill.

--We'll keep the SUV's, pickup trucks and oversized luxury cars. You can take every Volt and Leaf you can find.

--You can give everyone healthcare if you can find any practicing doctors.

--We'll continue to believe healthcare is a luxury and not a right.

--We'll keep "The Battle Hymn of the Republic" and "The National Anthem."

--I'm sure you'll be happy to substitute "Imagine", "I'd Like to Teach the World to Sing", "Kum Ba Ya" or "We Are the World".

--We'll practice trickle down economics and you can continue to give trickle up poverty your best shot.

--Since it often so offends you, we'll keep our history, our name and our flag.

A Formal Apology And Prayer For Israel

It is no great secret that I do not agree with the current President on many things. I do not believe in his "spread the wealth" aka socialism. I do not support a government imposed healthcare system. I do not support spending twice as much as we make as a a nation each year...and I could go on all day, but one need only read some of my posts to see where I stand on most concerns.

Regardless of my very strong opinions on all of these policies, no stance is more important in our nation than our position regarding Israel. Israel is, first and foremost, a land blessed by God

Thus saith the Lord GOD; When I shall have gathered the house of Israel from the people among whom they are scattered, and shall be sanctified in them in the sight of the heathen, then shall they dwell in their land that I have given to my servant Jacob. Ezekiel 28:25

Israel is a beacon of light in the middle east, which seeks only to survive and exist amongst numerous nations which daily seek it's demise. It is no accident that this tiny nation continues to survive and thrive while being surrounded by hostile muslim nations who have attempted on numerous occasions to wipe them from the map. If there is any physical evidence to prove the existence of our God in Heaven the continued existence of the nation of Israel in the face of threatened extinction by it's islamic neighbors is nothing short of a miracle. This small nation represents morals and values similar to our own nation and we must support her against all radical, evil elements, which rise up against her.

Rather than continue a friendly, supportive policy towards the greatest ally we have in this world, our current President has continuously thrown Israel under the bus. Most recently, he has called for Israel to withdraw back to it's pre-Six Day War 1967 borders. You know, one of the many times Israel's neighbors (Egypt, Syria, and Jordan) have joined forces in an attempt to destroy Israel.

This is incomrehensible, as it would make Israel unable to defend itself properly. Our President is stepping into dangerous territory by turning his back on Israel. I do not believe for one minute that he is representing the views of the people of our nation on this matter.

Mark my words...our nation has been blessed by God throughout it's history by standing up for decency, freedom, and liberty of mankind on the World's stage. The day we, as a nation, turn our back on Israel...we, as a nation, will cease to receive these blessings. A cowboy named Bud was overseeing his herd in a remote pasture when

suddenly a brand-new BMW advanced toward him out of a cloud of dust .

The driver, a young man in a Brioni suit, Gucci shoes , Ray Ban

sunglasses and YSL tie, leaned out the window and asked the cowboy,

"If I tell you exactly how many cows and calves you have in your herd,

Will you give me a calf?"

Bud looks at the man, obviously a yuppie, then looks at his

peacefully grazing herd and calmly answers, "Sure, Why not?"

The yuppie parks his car, whips out his Dell notebook computer,

connects it to his Cingular RAZR V3 cell phone , and surfs to a

NASA page on the Internet, where he calls up a GPS satellite to get an

exact fix on his location which he then feeds to another NASA

satellite that scans the area in an ultra-high-resolution photo.

The young man then opens the digital photo in Adobe Photo shop and

exports it to an image processing facility in Hamburg , Germany .

Within seconds, he receives an email on his Palm Pilot that the

image has been processed and the data stored. He then accesses an

MS-SQL database through an ODBC connected Excel spreadsheet with email

on his Blackberry and, after a few minutes, receives a response.

Finally, he prints out a full-color, 150-page report on his hi-tech,

miniaturized HP LaserJet printer, turns to the cowboy and says, "You

have exactly 1,586 cows and calves."

"That's right. Well, I guess you can take one of my calves," says Bud.

He watches the young man select one of the animals and looks on with

amusement as the young man stuffs it into the trunk of his car.

Then Bud says to the young man, "Hey, if I can tell you exactly what

your business is, will you give me back my calf?"

The young man thinks about it for a second and then says, "Okay, why not?"

"You're an aide in the Obama Administration", says Bud.

"Wow! That's correct," says the yuppie, "but how did you guess that?"

"No guessing required." answered the cowboy. "You showed up here

even though nobody called you; you want to get paid for an answer I

already knew, to a question I never asked. You used millions of

dollars worth of equipment trying to show me how much smarter than me

you are; and you don't know a thing about how working people make a

Early Republican polling each day continues to show Mitt Romney as the leader for the 2012 nomination, followed closely by Mike Huckabee. It appears thus far that Republicans are playing it safe. That's as nicely as I can put it. Are the Republicans truly going to continue the mistakes of the past, i.e. John McCain and Bob Dole?? It's almost as if they have a meeting and determine who's turn it is, based on seniority of times run.

As much as I do not support Donald Trump for President, there are things that can be learned from his rapid rise and fall from the polling of the last few weeks. What caused his rapid ascension in the Republican polling, in spite of his obvious past support to liberal politicians?? HE SPOKE HIS MIND!! HE ACTED LIKE A MAN WITH COJONES WHO STOOD FOR SOMETHING!!! Don't get me wrong, I think his motives are selfish and I would not vote for him for President, but if ever there was a moment for Republican candidates to realize what we are looking for in a candidate as it relates to attitude, this was the day.

Unfortunately the GOP has quickly put the blindfold back on and RINO's like Romney and Huckabee once again lead the polling, as their names are familiar and they represent the Republican establishment that refuses to rock the boat and tell it like it is.

It seems these days in the Republican Party that the individuals with the most testicular fortitude are females. Sarah Palin and Michele Bachmann take a leadership role daily and stand firm in conservative principles in spite of an overwhelming liberal force which serves to demonize them with horrific rhetoric that not only targets them but members of their family. Yet the Republicans lift up the original author of socialized medicine, Mitt Romney, as their early frontrunner.

Hello!!! Wake up Republican Party!!! We, the conservative majority of America do not want another politician to run this country further into the ground. We yearn for someone that stands up for what is right, regardless of what the politically correct viewpoint is on the matter. We do not want any more wimps that attempt to please everyone. Right is right and wrong is wrong, and the sooner we get back to speaking plainly and clearly to both instead of blurring the line between the two is the day we begin to repair our Republic. It's as simple as that.

I post my opinions on this site regularly. I have made quite a few enemies and quite a few friends. Whichever side you fall on one thing is for sure...at least you know clearly what my views are and where I stand. All the Republicans need to do is stop settling for this wishy-washy stance of being afraid to make a stand for fear of who it might disenfranchise, and tell it like it is for a change. America hungers for a leader!! A warrior who speaks his mind instead of catering to whatever crowd he is talking to that day. Where is this man or woman? Will they run? The current field of candidates is as weak as it can be, minus Herman Cain, who just can't get any recognition or publicity going as of yet. Sarah??? Allen??? Michele??? Someone please grab the guidon and circle the formation!! The nation needs a warrior!!!

The Welfare State and the Selfish Society

In the contemporary world, where left-wing attitudes are regarded as normative, it is a given that capitalism, with its free market and profit motive, emanates from and creates selfishness, while socialism, the welfare state and the "social compact," as it is increasingly referred to, emanate from and produce selflessness.

The opposite is the truth.

Whatever its intentions, the entitlement state produces far more selfish people -- and therefore, a far more selfish society -- than a free-market economy. And once this widespread selfishness catches on, we have little evidence that it can be undone.

Here's an illustration: Last year, President Obama addressed a large audience of college students on the subject of health care. At one point in his speech, he announced that the students will now be able to remain on their parents' health insurance plan until age 26. I do not ever recall hearing a louder, more thunderous and sustained applause than I did then. I do not believe that if the president had announced that a cure for cancer had been discovered that the applause would have been louder or longer.

It is depressing to listen to that applause. To be told that one can be dependent on one's parents until age 26 should strike a young person who wants to grow up as demeaning, not as something to celebrate.

Throughout American history, the natural -- or at least hoped for -- inclination of a young person was to become a mature adult, independent of Mom and Dad, and to become a grown up. But in the welfare state, this is no longer the case.

In various European countries, it is increasingly common for young men to live with their parents into their 30s and even longer. Why not? In the welfare state, there is no shame in doing so.

The welfare state enables -- and thereby produces -- people whose preoccupations become more and more self-centered as time goes on:

How many benefits will I receive from the state?

How much will the state pay for my education?

How much will the state pay for my health care and when I retire?

What is the youngest age at which I can retire?

How much vacation time can I get each year?

How many days can I call in sick and get paid?

How many months can I claim paternity or maternity care money?

The list gets longer with each election of a left-wing party. And each entitlement becomes a "right" as the left transforms entitlements into the language of "rights" as quickly as possible.

What entitlements do, and what the transformation of entitlements into rights does, is create a citizenry that increasingly lacks the most important character trait -- gratitude. Of all the characteristics needed for both a happy and morally decent life, none surpasses gratitude. Grateful people are happier, and grateful people are more morally decent. That is why we teach our children to say "thank you." But the welfare state undoes that. One does not express thanks for a right. So, instead of "thank you," the citizen of the welfare state is taught to say, "What more can I get?"

Yet, while producing increasingly selfish people, the mantra of the left, and therefore of the universities and the media, has been for generations that capitalism and the free market, not the welfare state, produces selfish people.

They succeed in part because demonizing conservatives and their values is a left-wing art. But the truth is that capitalism and the free market produce less selfish people. Teaching people to work hard and take care of themselves (and others) produces a less, not a more, selfish citizen.

Capitalism teaches people to work harder; the welfare state teaches people to want harder. Which is better?
