Lo sci e la ruota si contendono il primato del primo mezzo di trasporto usato dall’uomo.

I più antichi sci rudimentali sono stati ritrovati a Hoting, in Svezia, e risalgono a circa 4500 anni fa. Sempre di quel periodo (secolo più, secolo meno!), sono le pitture rupestri rinvenute nella località di Rødøy, in Norvegia, che a testimonianza dell’antichissimo uso di questo strumento, raffigurano un uomo con ai piedi degli inconfondibili sci.

Il termine sci deriva da due vocaboli dell’antico norvegese usati per indicare l’attrezzo: saa e suk. In norvegese moderno si scrive "ski" e si pronuncia "shi". L'inglese e il francese usano la grafia originale e modificano la pronuncia, in italiano la pronuncia rimane inalterata ma si modifica la grafia. Continua a leggere...

Il Carnevale di Venezia

La magia del Carnevale di Venezia ha radici ben piantate nella storia della ricca e fascinosa città lagunare. Sin dall’antichità il passaggio dal rigido inverno al risveglio della primavera era festeggiato con riti e banchetti, dai culti dionisiaci greci ai Saturnalia romani. Elemento comune delle varie festività era l’uso delle maschere e la messa in scena di rappresentazioni simboliche: tutto era concesso, con lo scopo di vivere per un breve periodo in un mondo alla rovescia.

Nel corso dei secoli i vari governanti utilizzarono questo periodo di festa, durante il quale tolleravano momenti di sfogo e manifestazioni di “pazzia”, per controllare le pulsioni più violente della popolazione. A Christmas Carol - by Charles Dickens

The novel tells the story of the redemption of crusty, greedy old Ebenezer Scrooge, after being visited by four ghosts on Christmas Eve.

The ghost of Jacob Marley (Scrooge's business partner, who had died seven years before) appears to Scrooge and warns him that his soul will be bearing heavy chains for eternity if he does not change his greedy ways, and also predicts that a series of other ghosts will follow.

Three Christmas ghosts visit Scrooge during the course of the night: the Ghost of Christmas Past takes Scrooge to the scenes of his boyhood and youth which reminded him that he was once a tender child; the Ghost of Christmas Present takes Scrooge to the home of his nephew Fred to observe his game of Yes and No and to the humble dwelling of his clerk Bob Cratchit to observe his Christmas dinner; and the Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come torments Scrooge with dire visions of the future if he does not learn and act upon what he has witnessed.
