This French country kitchen has accented its grey-blue kitchen cabinetry with a bold red in a very French toil pattern. There are also many architectural details in the cabinetry design, such as the toe valances, cathedral glass inserts and bonnet topped, built-in armoire refrigerator. The natural stone floor, wood exposed beams and wrought iron curtain rods complete the look.

This is a very modern French country kitchen. The natural wood beams and architectural corbels flow seamlessly with the worn natural wood kitchen cabinetry. The patina-ed metal hardware is offset by the hexagonal wire mesh inserts and stainless steel appliances.

This French country kitchen utilizes all three of the French country accent colors. The bright yellow hutch is accented by the displayed blue and white china. The decorative red rug provides an accent to the natural wood floors. The sunflowers and lemons create a decorative accent against the white stone top of the peninsula. We also see examples of natural building materials, such as the exposed wood beams, and brick wall construction in the foreground.

There are numerous architectural details both in the room and the kitchen cabinetry design of this French country kitchen. The natural stone floor, exposed rafters and beams, and wrought iron, antique pendants give the room itself a French country flare. On top of that, the kitchen cabinetry has loads of French country detailing. The islands stand on French furniture feet, and the bonnet topped, open china display cabinet add to the furniture feel of the cabinetry.

This kitchen has an eclectic French country kitchen. The natural wood exposed beams and patinaed wood wall covering behind the sink are French country architectural elements. The copper pot and garland of garlic hanging on the vertical wood beam and the copper kettle on the cook top are also French country elements. The oil painting of the goat adds a touch of country whimsy.

The wrought iron elements in this kitchen, along with the exposed beams and bold red accents give this kitchen a French country bent. The stucco walls, over sized fireplace, natural stone back splash and polished concrete floors also add to the French country style.

This is a very traditional and ornate French country kitchen. The hood cabinet has a very obvious architectural shape. The kitchen cabinetry is finished in two different stains, both with a worn patina to them. The back splash and counter tops are natural stone, the floors are a medium stained wood, and though the architectural beams are not exposed, their shape and presence are highlighted through molding.

This is a fun vignette highlighting the whimsy that the French country style can accommodate. The bright yellow finish on the over sized, architectural hood and kitchen cabinetry is in keeping with the French country style. We can see that the walls behind it are a bright Mediterranean blue and that a natural wood beam runs into the hood. The tile back splash and glass pendants are also natural building materials. One of our most recent Savannah remodeling projects was this kitchen remodel in the Ardsley Park neighborhood of midtown Savannah, Georgia.  This kitchen was opened up to the dining room through removing a center dividing wall.  New custom cabinets created an entirely new floor plan and an updated modern feel.

The Savannah Cabinet Shop is in the installation phase of this kitchen remodel on Wilmington Island, a suburb of Savannah, Georgia.  While the footprint of this kitchen is similar to the previous one, many extras have been added.  The cabinetry now goes all the way to the ceiling and wraps around the far corner, transitioning nicely into the doorway area.  The refrigerator is now enclosed and the bar area has been raised to a traditional bar height.  Organizational components like a Lazy Susan, trash pull-out, tray storage and roll-out shelves have also been added.

One of our favorite remodeling projects was on our very own cabinetry showroom in downtown Savannah, Georgia.  This project consisted of many different remodeling projects rolled into one.  There was a kitchen remodel, a bathroom remodel, and a office remodel, along with new furniture, architectural details, and overall decorating.

This kitchen was part of a full-scale remodel on a historic home in Savannah’s downtown Victorian district.  Through the removal of the forth wall and the addition of two different islands, the kitchen was brought into the adjoining living areas.  Contrasting finishes and door styles, along with a mixture of wood and granite countertops, makes this kitchen remodel one of the most transformative undertakings of the entire project.

A home remodeling project doesn’t have to be large in scale to make a great impact.  This Savannah homeowner significantly changed the look of her sitting room with the addition of built-in bookcases on either side of the fireplace.

There were hardly any cabinets in this kitchen before the client decided to remodel.  Though the placement of windows and doors made wall cabinets tricky to incorporate, the solution of open stainless steel shelving and industrial stainless steel appliances gave this newly remodeled Savannah kitchen a decidedly professional and roomy feel.

Another full-scale remodeling project that The Savannah Cabinet Shop took on was the remodeling of a hotel room on Tybee Island, Georgia.  Not only did we do a complete kitchen and bath remodel, but we raised the ceiling to form a slope and added a loft space.  The flooring, paint scheme, wainscot paneling, lighting and furniture were all new additions as well.

One of the future kitchen remodels that we are looking forward to is in another historic house in Savannah’s Victorian district.  The client is looking to add visual balance, additional storage and a refined elegance to this small, segregated galley kitchen.  The luxury of the twelve foot ceilings allows us to add a whole new level of wall cabinets for additional storage.  Putting glass inserts into this new top row will add visual interest to the kitchen, while making sure the new cabinet height doesn’t leave the user feeling closed in.  Visual balance was created on this wall by transforming the water heater closet into a matching faux cabinet.

This home remodeling project is a testament to the value of unused space.  This homeowner transformed a little used hallway closet into a full-service dog feeding area.  New custom cabinetry, wall paneling, countertop and plumbing were added to create a unique space that will now be utilized every day.

Country, as a design style, can, on first mention, strike horror in many people’s minds.  Often, though, this is due to a misconception.  Those who are immediately turned off by the country style, when first mentioned by their kitchen designer, are picturing those bonneted duck wood cut-outs, yards and yards of gingham, stenciled wallpaper borders, and overly ornate wood cut-out valances.   These however, are not the visuals of the new country kitchen.

The new country style is about several basic concepts and principles that are easily used and translated in conjunction with other design styles.  Fabric is generally more prominently featured in country style kitchens, but nowadays that fabric can be any pattern.  Focus is put on the aesthetics of hand-made objects, or objects that have a more rustic and honest aesthetic.  Vintage objects and accessories and patina or painted finishes are often used in contemporary country kitchens.

There are several reoccurring elements that kitchen designers use when designing today’s country kitchen.  Farm sinks are an obvious choice for their automatic association with the country.  Wood tops are also popular, as well as statement hardware.  In terms of door and drawer head styles, really any style can be used. The board and batten door style is used almost exclusively in country style kitchens. Other popular styles include recessed bead board and shaker or recessed flat panel door styles.   When achieving a more traditional country kitchen, your designer might choose a raised panel door style.  Conversely, when designing a country kitchen with a modern flavor, a slab door style might be used.

The base doors here are a variation of board and batten, with the batten being replaced by gate hardware.  The drawer heads are slab, and the wall doors are shaker.  We also see the country influence in the vintage appliances and accessories, the fabric window treatments, and the hand painted tile backsplash.

This kitchen is an example of a modern country kitchen.  The minimalist design, monotone color scheme and open shelving are all modern elements.  The cup pulls and turn latch hardware, the raw wood bowls, the separate hot and cold water spigots, and the bead board side panel of the island are all elements that give this kitchen its subtle country influence. The recessed flat panel doors and slab drawer heads expertly balance these two styles.

The natural wood table and benches with fabric seat pads fit well into this mellow country kitchen.  The painted kitchen cabinets are recessed flat panel inset into the face frame.  This inset construction provides the opportunity for exposed wall door hinges, along with cup pulls and turn latch knobs.  The wood countertop and farm sink further the country feel, along with the vintage radio, handmade wooden heart ornament, and the decoratively placed woven basket of knitting.

This is a very eclectic country kitchen design.  Not only are the cabinet doors bead board, put so are all the walls, and the ceiling.  The patinaed white paint is also featured on the worn, mismatched vintage bar stools, and is an excellent foil for the warm brown stain of the floor.  The large farm sink stands alone as its own architectural element, and the pantry door was undoubtedly reclaimed from its former life as a screen door to some old farmhouse. The industrial steel pendant lamps and multicolored tile countertops help complete the chic eclectic country style.

This is an obviously upscale kitchen designed to have a decidedly country feel.  The raw wood floor is mirrored in the wood tops and the contrast wood interiors of the open base and wall cabinets.  The bead board island sides, large farm sink and cup pulls add to the country feel.  When combined with the handmade step stool, fabric window treatment, and the myriad of kitchen accessories and tools on display, there is no denying the sophisticated country feel of this space.

This is a charming and eclectic country kitchen.  The handmade wooden dining table is paired with worn, patinaed chairs.  Bead board, recessed flat panel, and slab door and drawer head styles are used, all in an inset construction.  The large farm sink sits as its own cabinet run, the rest of the runs are topped in wood countertops.  The vintage refrigerator, hand painted “milk” sign, vintage kitchen accessories and schoolhouse children desk add the touch of whimsy that makes this kitchen design charmingly casual and truly heartwarming.

This kitchen also features inset shaker doors with exposed hinges, but utilizes large wood knobs in a contrast finish to make a statement.  The woven basket pull-outs in the island help further the country style. The wood tops and bead board peninsula back are also familiar country elements.

The board and batten door style makes this kitchen obviously country.  Its charm and freshness come from the unique accessories, multicolored finishes, roman, fabric shade window covering and all white dishware.

This country kitchen is both traditional and charming.  The raised panel doors, toe valances and turned island legs give it a traditional base, on top of which is the funky tri-color painted finish, whimsical exposed wrought iron hardware, old fashion pendant lamps and beaten metal backsplash in a deep patina.

This kitchen has a very traditional, even old world feel, but also incorporates some country design elements.  The doors are recessed flat panel and the drawer heads are slab.  There is cup pull hardware, and a very artistic painted finish.  The hood is a heavily patinaed metal chimney hood.  The island has a wood top and turned legs.   This kitchen would fit just as well in the French countryside as it would in a coastal American country home.

Modern, as a design style, consists of clean lines, minimal ornamentation and an accentuation of material.  Modern kitchens are obviously more popular in houses that have a modern architectural style, but modern kitchen cabinets are also common in lofts and apartment buildings.  Modern kitchens have several elements common among them.  They usually feature shiny or frosted surfaces, an emphasis on the grain of any wood that is used, metal detailing, and strong horizontal or vertical lines.

The word “modern” is often misused to mean contemporary or fresh.  Modern, when used correctly, actually refers to a specific look from a specific time period – the middle decades of the twentieth century.  Modern style was an extension of modernism and modernist thought.

The door and drawer head styles most often used in modern kitchens are the recessed flat panel style and the slab style.  Popular finishes include high gloss paint, stained wood, or metal.  The decorative hardware, appliances, lighting and everything else going into a modern kitchen will typically be as minimal and sleek as possible, if not actually from the modern era.   Colors are usually bold and occur in blocks as a type of accent.

In this modern kitchen, there are two different high gloss finishes on the slab doors of the kitchen cabinetry, orange and cream.  The orange kitchen cabinetry creates an architectural color block shape.  The sides of the kitchen cabinetry are made of a dark stained wood with a strong vertical grain.  The stainless steel appliances, hardware, and glass door frames complete the modern look of this kitchen.

This modern kitchen also features stainless steel appliances, stainless steel framed, frosted glass cabinet doors, and a multi-toned construction, including a stainless steel toe kick.  The opening mechanism for the base cabinets is built into the doors and drawers to eliminate the need for decorative hardware, living up to modernism’s minimalist ornamentation.

The exotic wood of these kitchen cabinets has a strong horizontal grain, mimicked in the horizontal installation of the minimalist stainless steel drawer hardware.  The sink and cooktop are all built into a thick stainless steel component that becomes its own architectural element.  The slab style, high gloss, white kitchen cabinetry doors create a color block when set into the exotic wood paneling on the far wall.  The pop of color comes from the red glass pendant.

Here is an example of a modern kitchen that uses flat recessed panel kitchen cabinetry doors.  The majority of this kitchen is a mixture of mid-tone wood and stainless steel appliances.  The open shelving in the background is another popular element in modern kitchens.  We see strong vertical lines in the support beam and the folds of the long cream satin curtain on the back wall.  White accents and an industrial chandelier complete the look.

The large slab kitchen cabinetry doors with long stainless steel bar pulls create a color block along the back wall with strong vertical lines.  The orange and red colors of the books on the back wall are mimicked in the red inside lining of the molded modern chairs. The origami pendant lamp is not only a modern architectural shape, but draws attention to the fact that it’s made out of paper.

This modern kitchen utilizes a mixture of metals set against a dark stained wood with a heavy grain.  Again, a handle for the doors and drawer heads have been engineered into the door and drawer head construction to eliminate the need for separate decorative hardware.  Open shelving is also used on the back of the island, creating three strong horizontal lines. These horizontal lines are mimicked in the large metal pendant lamp.

The grain of the wood is obviously the show piece in this modern kitchen.  It is set against white and stainless steel elements, so that it pops.  Open white shelving is placed on top of the high gloss wood paneling in the dining alcove to create horizontal lines that cut through the visual of the wood grain.  The dining table is made of one large horizontal line that takes a ninety degree turn into a vertical to the floor.

The semi circular shape of this kitchen cabinetry, the black and white color palette throughout the room, and the mid-century furniture, art and accessories give this kitchen a decidedly modern feel.

This completely stainless steel kitchen is starkly modern, especially in juxtaposition with the rough wood beams.  The beams and stainless steel kitchen cabinetry form intersecting horizontal and vertical lines that play off of each other.  The kitchen cabinetry itself also forms a large, high gloss color block in the stark open space.

This space appears to be a studio apartment.  Its modernist style comes from, first and foremost, the strong vertical and horizontal lines.  We can also see several other popular modern elements in this space like the frosted glass cabinet doors on the far wall, the stainless steel accents and the sparse pops of color throughout.

White kitchen cabinetry can serve many purposes other than just plain being beautiful.   White kitchen cabinets can be a foil for a bold countertop choice, a dark wood floor, whimsical wallpaper or funky accessories in an array of colors.  White kitchen cabinetry can also make a small kitchen feel more spacious, or a dark kitchen seem brighter.

A white finish looks good on any style of kitchen cabinetry.  Whether you are choosing a traditional raised panel door, a simple recessed flat panel, a casual bead board, or a modern slab door, white paint will look good on it.  Best of all, if your tastes change over the years, with white kitchen cabinetry, you have a better chance of just being able to change the details of your kitchen and produce an entirely different look.

White kitchen cabinetry going all the way to the ceiling was an excellent choice for this tight on space galley kitchen.  The white finish makes the space feel bigger; the height of the kitchen cabinets gives the space more visual height.  The white finish is also the perfect foil for the rich wood floors and grey stone countertop.  With this neutral color scheme, different accessories could easily be swapped out over time or for different holidays to give the kitchen an ever-changing look.

With the variety of doors styles and the two different countertop materials, the white finish on the kitchen cabinetry here acts as a unifying element.

The worn natural wood floor, the shiny glaze of the backsplash tile and the natural clear finish of the maple countertops are brought together by the white kitchen cabinetry.  This kitchen is about simple elegance: a variety of textures in a muted color palate.  The white kitchen cabinetry is the foil on top of which everything else is placed.

This kitchen walks the line between country and modern.  The worn wood half log ceiling beams, the turned post high chair, and the white porcelain farm sink with flanking split posts are the elements that hint at a casual country style.  The high gloss subway tile back splash, grey slate tile floor and the jet black countertop give it a cool modern vibe.  The white kitchen cabinetry is the perfect way to straddle these seemingly dissimilar styles.  By using a slab drawer front mixed with a shaker, recessed flat panel door, the kitchen cabinetry acts as a perfect mediator.

There are a lot of things going on in this very small space, a blue ceiling that bleeds into the walls, bead board paneling to the seven foot mark, louvered shuttered windows, a natural brick floor in a basket weave pattern,  Americana prints, three different medium brown wood elements and stainless steel appliances.  What keeps this kitchen looking quaint instead of overcrowded?  You guessed it- the white kitchen cabinetry.
