This is the time of the year where most people get together with their family and celebrate Thanksgiving and not to long from now Christmas. I know some of you are probably wondering how do I get through this holiday and maintain my raw status, whatever that may be.

For most of you on this list you are high raw or aspiring to be high raw and there are some of you that aspire to be 100% raw. Whatever your goal is you can make it through the holidays on track. Here are a few tips. Note: These tips are no secret but most people fail to do this:

Take your own food: I recommend that if you want to stay on track start creating your holiday plans right now! This is the perfect time. You want to be more then ready to not feel tempted and the only way is to make enough food. I suggest that you go above and beyond. Make at least 2-3 desserts and 2-3 main dishes that you can take with you and even share with family. By having these dishes available you are covering your needs.

But what happens if people ask me to eat something I don’t want to eat? You must be prepared to answer to family who may ask you to eat their food. You have two options, either you can nibble on some of their food or have something prepared to say to someone who ask you to eat. If you are someone who is eating a 100% raw food diet it may not be a good idea to take a nibble. Tell them that you would love to taste their food but that you are currently following a different eating plan and in order to see the results you are looking for you need to stick with it. Basically have what you plan to say prepared and ready in case anyone challenge your diet.

As you can see the best advice I have is, be prepared. If you are not prepared, you are most likely setting yourself up for failure.

Below are some of my favorite recipe books. If you do not have a recipe book available, I highly suggest you buy one of the recipe books below.

Nuts are highly nutritious and healing. When you start incorporating more raw foods in your diet your intake of nuts will increase. Below I will be talking about almonds and there nutritional value as well as other information you might find helpful when consuming Almonds.

Almonds

Almonds are one of the most nutrition nuts available. Almonds are high in fat but they are also high in the following:

Fiber, Vitamin E, Maganese, Magnesium, Tryptophan, Copper, Vitamin B2.

Almonds are great for your heart and for your colon. If there is one nut you want to consume more of it is Almonds according to Ann Wigmore. Almonds are the number one nut you want to have on your list. If at all possible you want to eat them raw. In order to release all of it’s nutrition you will want to soak your almonds for at least 24/48 hours. This will help the almonds release the enzyme inhibitors within the nut, which yields more nutrition for you. Also by soaking your almonds you are making it easier for your body to digest them.

Note: Almonds should be stored in the refrigerator and or freezer. If stored in the freezer it can last up to 12 months.

Here is a lovely recipe for you:

Replace: Milk and other dairy products with Almond milk: You can even make almond yogurt!

Almond Mylk:

1 cup almonds

3 cups water ( I prefer 2 cups of water)

Add honey or agave to taste

What you will need: A blender and Cheesecloth. If you have a vitamix you will not need cheesecloth.

Directions: Blend the almonds and water together until it is broken down and resembles milk. Take your cheesecloth and put it in a large bowl, make sure the cheesecloth is big enough to cover the top of the bowl. Now take your nut mylk and pour it into the cheesecloth. Now you will need to pick up each end of the cheesecloth and squeeze it until all of the mylk and pulp is separated. Now take the mylk and place it back in the blender and add your sweetener. There you have it almond mylk.

You can make so many combination’s, I love to add frozen banana and vanilla, it taste so yummy.

Check out this video by Rhio she shows you how to use nuts to make yogurt.

Love your almonds.

“The outer situation is always a reflection of the collective inner situation.” – PEACE PILGRIM

Just the other day I happen to come across the quote above and it really touched me. It is not that I didn’t know that outer appearance was a result of what was going on inside, but I forget sometime to focus on the inside. When I first went raw I went because I was so sick I didn’t think there was much left to live for because I could hardly breathe. What I didn’t know was that not only was I in need of a change in diet, I was in need of some serious work on the inside.

Raw food is definitely a healing diet but also one that will help you clean up the mess on the inside. When I say inside I mean the holding of grudges, not being able to forgive, past hurts, stuffed emotions, and what ever else you choose to ignore in your life. Many of us have so much pain from the past that we that we can’t see it. Some of us have lived most of our lives in the dark. We are hurting and in pain.

If you want to truly succeed on any diet especially a healing diet like the raw food diet, it’s time to get real and honest. Allow the emotions you feel to flow, work through them. Raw Food can give your body what it needs to heal but you, you have to work through whatever you need to move forward with your life. We can no longer live in the past if you want to be happy.

Sometimes facing the truth or detoxing our emotions can be hard but when you allow yourself to do so, you are moving one step closer to your goal. It’s time to give up the hurt and start living a happy, loving and free life.

Some people say it is hard to go raw, but I believe it is hard for us to face the changes and things we need to face that are stuffed on the inside. Cooked food comforts those feelings, they stuff them and give you some since of hope and happiness which is only temporary.

Don’t you want to live to your highest and best potential? Don’t you want to be all you can be? Don’t you want to go after your passions in life? True beauty comes from within.

Who can you forgive today to start the healing process?

What can you do today to show yourself love?

These are great questions to ask yourself to get the healing process started.

Well I love what Dan A.K.A “The Life Regenerator” is doing in the raw food community via his you tube videos. He brings a lot of joy and happiness and makes raw food appear fun and easy and it can be easy!

One of the many shows that really stood out to me was the interviews he started to do with “The raw food trucker” Who has now lost well over 178lbs and has inspired so many people. The Raw Food trucker is a truck driver and what inspires me most is that he continues to live the raw food lifestyle even though he is always on the road. He has healed from colon cancer, Type ll diabetes and more. Please check out his story it is inspiring. I am only posting the first couple of interviews below more can be found on Dan’s (The Life Regenerator you tube channel)

Today’s Date: 9-24-09
Day of Juice Feast: Day 2
Feast Goal: September 23, 2009 until January 2, 2010

How I feel today:
Today I am feeling so so good, I can’t believe how good I am feeling. This morning I did an enema and right after I started feeling lighter. I have to say that I have been thinking about eating solid food but I have no plans of doing that, I must continue. (The paragraph above was written this morning)

I got up this morning about 6am made all of my juice and my husbands green smoothie and started off my day putting myself first. Sometimes I get up and forget about me and start doing other stuff but today I was totally focused on getting my juice made and cleaning up a bit and the enema of course which is weird to do but I can see how it can help one feel better.

Now, later in the day I started to have a bit of a headache, it but it didn’t last long.

Ok, I have to vent and confess, I got an email about a potential project I asked to be apart of well, this email required that I most likely not juice feast and I was driving myself crazy trying to figure out if I should re-schedule my juice feast and do the project(Raw food project), well for a minute I decided yes and I did eat a little bit but something just didn’t feel right about it and I really feel I need to continue I have to continue this. So Yes, I did eat a little off but I am continuing on and I’ll probably just add a day on the end but in any case I didn’t go haywire.

I think I read somewhere today on another juice feasters blog that someone told her that something will come up just when you get started and yep it happened to me and now I’m going to be on the watch out. Lets keep this going.

I’m staying on my juice feast… Let the fun continue……. I am glad I am Keeping it Real with you, I think the way to truly make a change is to be honest with yourself first and with others especially if you’re sharing your journey like I am on this blog.

The daily Juice:
B: 32oz Water with Lemon
L: 32 oz of green juice (Carrots, Kale, Collard, Cucumber, Celery, and Tomatoes)
D: 32 oz of green juice (Carrots, Kale, Collard, Cucumber, Celery, and Tomatoes)
S:32 oz of green juice (Dandelion, Cucumber, Carrots, Celery, and Tomatoes)

Energy Level: Great, so happy I am doing this.
Exercise: n/a yet
Enema:Yes

This book really goes into detail about the nutritional and healing properties of fruit and vegetables, grains, nuts and seeds. Most raw food books don’t cover the nutritional value that Brigitte covers in Rawsome.

In addition to the wonderful raw food encyclopedia she also includes over 200 recipes. The recipes go from simple to dehydrated recipes but none of the recipes are too hard or complicated and best of all you should be able to find most of the ingredients in your local grocery or natural health food store.

Now not only does this book contain all of the above great features but Brigitte also includes a wonderful list of Acid forming foods as well as Alkaline forming foods. The goodness doesn’t stop there she also includes a extensive list of nutrients like Vitamin C, Vitamin K and which fruits and veggies will provide those specific nutrients.

As you can see this book is jam packed with a ton of useful information and is definitely my go to book when I am wondering which fruits and vegetables have a specific nutrient. There is so much more to this book then what I listed above but I thought these were some of the wonderful features of this book

So you might be wondering, what is my opinion on this book?

Well I love it, as it is one of the only raw food based books that include a section that list out the nutrients and what fruits and vegetables contain those nutrients. I use this book even more for the simple recipes that our found within and most of all I love the encyclopedia it is jammed packed with detailed information on the most commonly consumed fruits and vegetables.

Rawsome is a great and unique book, you can pick up a copy here.

Today’s Date: 9-23-09
Day of Juice Feast: Day 1
Feast Goal: September 23, 2009 until January 2, 2010

How I feel today:
Today I feel ok, was having some feelings of eating food as if it was the last day I’d ever see food. It is funny how we can trick our minds into thinking that we must stuff ourselves because the world is about to end at least that is how I felt. I’m excited to have started this journey and happy to be able to share it with you along the way.

Check out my Refrigerator:

The daily Juice:
My main juice for today and all this week will most likely be the same.

B: 40oz Water with lemon and msm
L: 32 oz of green juice (Carrots, Kale, Collard, Cucumber, Celery, and Tomatoes)
D: 32 oz of green juice (Carrots, Kale, Collard, Cucumber, Celery, and Tomatoes)
S: 32 oz of green juice (Carrots, Kale, Collard, Cucumber, Celery, and Tomatoes)

Energy Level: Fair could be better
Exercise: No

Any one else juice feasting? Is there any specific information you would like me to share while I am on this juice feast that you feel might be helpful to you? I will eventually share how much I lose but I really don’t like to weigh myself but I will once in a while but other then weight, let me know.
