As promised, this review has been rushed to meet the dateline set by myself on The Fountain Pen Network. Below is a typed transcript in case my handwritting is hard to read.

Orange Indien

This review is written with a Pelikan M400 White Tortoise Fine Nibbed pen on a Moleskine Weekly Notebook.

As with all J. Herbin inks, this ink is also not available in Singapore. This ink is a bright orange coloured ink that shows significant shading on this pen. Unlike the Poussiere De Lune, this Orange Indien ink is slightly slower drying and writes slightly thicker too.

Looking at the colour of this ink, it will be a little difficult to find a suitable functions for it. I primarily use this ink for informal writing and for highlighting on my notebook.

Therefore, unless you already know what you are going to use this ink for or am in the market for a unique ink to add to your collection, I would have a hard time recommending this ink to anyone due to the lack of versatility in terms of usage.

Also, there is a slight bleedthrough noticed on this paper when this ink is used.

This review has been a long overdue one as I had promised it after the previous post. Had been spending alot of time writing with this ink and it has grown on me. Purple is a colour of royalty and it is a nice colour to write with. Anyway, without further delay, the scan is below along with a typed transcript just in case my handwriting is a tab hard to read.

J. Herbin

This review is written with a Pelikan M400 White Tortoise Fine Nibbed pen on a Moleskine Weekly Notebook.

This ink is not available in any stores in Singapore. Went to most of the more established fountain pen stores but all of them do not carry any J. Herbin inks.

The J. Herbin Poussiere De Lune is a well-behaved ink which shows little to no feathering and just slight bleedthrough on this paper. Although this is a purple ink, it is totally different from the Noodler’s Singapore Sepia which I did a review on earlier. This ink is much brighter and truer purple than the Noodler’s Singapore Sepia, which drys up dull and slightly greyish.

The J. Herbin Poussiere De Lune did not disappoint me even with the high expectations I had. It’s an exciting ink to write with and I’ve had fun writing and doodling with this ink.

I highly recommend this ink to anyone who wants to get a purple ink without the need for bulletproof qualities. However, if bulletproofing is a must, then maybe the Noodler’s Singapore Sepia would be a more suitable candidate.

<<P.S. I had a great dealing with The Writing Desk whom I purchased this ink from at a very reasonable price. So, if you can’t readily get J. Herbin inks in your area, you might want to give them a try>>

Had just returned home from a meeting and as I was getting ready to prop my legs up and get a rest, the doorbell rang and lo and behold, it was Mr. Postman with the package that I have been eagerly awaiting. So without further ado, here are the unboxing photos.

The much eagerly awaited package with huge FRAGILE warning to ensure that it is handled with tender loving care.

The 2 babies that are nestled in heaps of foam to ensure that they are well-protected from the knocks and bumps as they make their way across continents.

The babies out in the wild with their protective suit still on.

Its the J. Herbin Poussiere De Lune and Orange Indien inks that I have been waiting for. I can’t seem to get any J. Herbin inks in Singapore so I had to order them in from The Writing Desk.

The J. Herbin Poussiere De Lune out from the box.

The J. Herbin Orange Indien out from the box.

I have to say that I’m extremely impressed with the service and delivery rendered by The Writing Desk. This order was placed on the 8th of May 2009 and I’ve received it today the 13th of May 2009. That’s less than a week and they’re based in the UK while I’m based in Singapore. Talk about efficiency, there’s none lacking from The Writing Desk. I’m so impressed that they should be expecting quite a few orders from me as I get through the J. Herbin inks among other items that are on offer from them. The price of these inks are also quite attractive as they only cost me about $30 shipped. I highly doubt you’ll be able to find anything better elsewhere. Two thumbs up!

Also, I’ll be putting up the reviews on these 2 babies the moment I have the chance to get them into my pens. So stay tuned from the reviews!

It’s tough when you have to decide which pen to purchase and which pen to forget when you’re a fountain pen lover. Even though I already own a Faber Castell E-Motion and a Pelikan M400 White Tortoise, the urge to get another pen has hit me yet again. Now its the decision between the cheaper Namiki Vanishing Point and the more expensive Visconti Van Gogh Maxi. Well, a short information on the 2 pens. Maybe some kind soul can help me decide if I should just go ahead and get the Namiki Vanishing Point or save up alittle more and get the Visconti Van Gogh instead.

Namiki Vanishing Point

The Japanese made Namiki Vanishing Point is a unique fountain pen that has showed the advancement of fountain pens in these modern times. The name Vanishing Point is given to this pen because of the unique nib mechanism. This pen has no cap at all and is also known by the name “Capless” in some parts of the world. In order to use this pen, one just simply “click” the push button to extend the nib and “click” the nib again to retract the nib back into the body.

Visconti Van Gogh Maxi

The Visconti Van Gogh Maxi is an Italian made pen that is made from the most beautiful semi-translucent vefetal celluloids. Every piece is unique in its colouring and patterning with no two ever quite the same. The particular model that I’m looking at is the above Honey White colour. Somehow the marbled white look really draws my attention to it. The other reason I like this pen is that it retains the traditional fountain pen look with fine Italian styling and quality.

Decisions, Decisions, Decisions……..

Love Letter Ink 2008

This review is written with a Pelikan M400 White Tortoise Fine Nibbed pen on a Moleskine Weekly Notebook.

As promised with the previous review of the Caran d’Ache Sunset ink, I’m doing a review on the Mont Blanc Love Letter Ink 2008 edition. This ink was purchased for the exact purpose its name suggest during Valentine’s Day.

My initial thoughts was that this ink would be similar to the Caran d’Ache Sunset, but after inking and writing with this ink, I’ve come to the conclude that this ink is much brighter and a lighter shade of pink.

This ink is scented but the scent is more to be enjoyed by the writer than the receiver of the letter as the scent does not remain on the letter for a period of time. However, the scent is pretty significant during the writing process, making it a more enjoyable one.

The Mont Blanc Love Letter nk has the hallmarks of the qualities of inks from the German company I’ve come to expect, with little to no feathering or bleedthrough seen on this very picky paper. The only con I can think of about this ink is the scent, which may be slightly overpowering when the pen is capped, as such, I’m reluctant to leave this ink in my Pelikan M400. However, when I’m in the mood to write any lovey dovey notes or letters to my loved ones, I would not hesitate to turn to this unique ink to get me in the mood for some romance!

Colours of the Earth: Sunset

This review is written with a Pelikan M400 White Tortoise Fine nib pen on a Moleskine Weekly Notebook.

This is a very rare ink colour to obtain with most companies stopping the production of this reddish colour (particularly true in Singapore). As I am an educator, I just had to get this shade of ink although I would have very much prefer to get the “Caribbean Sea” ink instead for its unique colour.

Anyway, this ink is all that I have come to expect from Caran d’Ache, it’s very well-behaved, with little to no feathering and bleedthrough even on this Moleskine notebook. The shae is more pinkish, which kinda resembles the colour of the Mont Blanc “Love Letter” ink minus the rose scent. I’ll be conducting a comparison soon to see if there are any significant differences between the 2 inks.

If you’re looking for a fun ink to write your love letters, this is one ink that I would recommend if you can’t stand the scented ink of the Mont Blanc equivalent.

That being said, I can’t wait for my next ink budget to be approved so that I can lay my grubby fingers on the Caran d’Ache “Caribbean Sea” ink!

<<P.S. this ink is readily available at the Caran d’Ache boutique in Singapore. I’ve received excellent service for my visits there.>>

Rarely are we presented an opportunity to come together as one for the greater good of the human race as well as fellow inhabitants on this earth we call home. This is the only planet on the solar system that is shared by the many creatures, big and small but is it only up to us to make a stand and contribute to preserving this blue globe. So let us join hands and transcend racial, political and country lines to work together in preventing global warming and ensuring that the generations to come will still be able to enjoy the earth as we have been.

This is an initiative that I have supported since 2008, when it was first made global after the success it was pioneered by WWF Australia and the Sydney Morning Herald in Sydney in 2007. It has since gained publicity and has generated substantial awareness throughout Singapore and around the world with major corporations taking a stand and declaring their “Go Green” stance as part of their corporate social responsibilities. There are now roadshows going around to major shopping centres for would-be supporters to vote with their pens and make a commitment to turn off their lights come Saturday, 28 March for 1 hour from 8.30pm – 9.30pm local time.

A write up of this movement is provided below as well as a link for you to make the commitment to take action in saving the Earth. You could tell everyone that you have Voted Earth by leaving the comment “I Vote Earth!” after you have signed up for Earth Hour or provide tips on how we can further prevent global warming.
<img style="border: medium none ;" title="Earth Hour 2009 is a global call to action! -A call to stand up, to take responsibility and to get involved in working towards a sustainable future.
Earth Hour 2009 by WWF

This year, Earth Hour has been transformed into the world’s first global election, between Earth and global warming.

For the first time in history, people of all ages, nationalities, race and background have the opportunity to use their light switch as their vote – Switching off your lights is a vote for Earth, or leaving them on is a vote for global warming. WWF are urging the world to VOTE EARTH and reach the target of 1 billion votes, which will be presented to world leaders at the Global Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen 2009.

This meeting will determine official government policies to take action against global warming, which will replace the Kyoto Protocol. It is the chance for the people of the world to make their voice heard.

Earth Hour began in Sydney in 2007, when 2.2 million homes and businesses switched off their lights for one hour. In 2008 the message had grown into a global sustainability movement, with 50 million people switching off their lights. Global landmarks such as the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, Rome’s Colosseum, the Sydney Opera House and the Coca Cola billboard in Times Square all stood in darkness.

In 2009, Earth Hour is being taken to the next level, with the goal of 1 billion people switching off their lights as part of a global vote. Unlike any election in history, it is not about what country you’re from, but instead, what planet you’re from. VOTE EARTH is a global call to action for every individual, every business, and every community. A call to stand up and take control over the future of our planet. Over 74 countries and territories have pledged their support to VOTE EARTH during Earth Hour 2009, and this number is growing everyday.

We all have a vote, and every single vote counts. Together we can take control of the future of our planet, for future generations.

VOTE EARTH by simply switching off your lights for one hour, and join the world for Earth Hour.

This post is to request for inputs from you on the next ink to review. I’ve always wanted to get some J. Herbin or Damine inks to review but unfortunately these are not avaliable in my country and will be fairly expensive to ship over. Hence, I’m now at a dilemma on which ink to get that would be interesting and exciting to review.

A couple of ideas I have in mind is either do a review of the remaining Noodler’s Singapore range or the remaining earth colours in the Caran d’Ache range. Hence, I would like to seek your opinion on which other ink you would like to be reviewed and I will try to meet that request. Suggestions can be made through the comments box seen below and I will try to base my next ink review on your suggestions.

Noodler’s Ink

Singapore Honourable Blue

This review is written with a Faber-Castell E-Motion Medium nib pen on a Moleskine Weekly Notebook.

I received a pair of this ink from a fellow FPN member about a year ago and I would like to thank him once again. This ink is also part of the Singapore series ink that Noodler’s catered for this island market and as such it bears the same “Bulletproof” properties as the other inks in its stable. It has very slight feathering as compared to the Singapore Sepia but it has considerably more bleedthrough than the Singapore Sepia.

It is not one of my favourite inks as it dries to a faded blue colour which is a little hard on eyes. It does write fairly smoothly though the lines it puts down are rather thick. It is this ink that makes me want to get a fine/extra fine nib instead of a medium. It does smell a little funny though I suspect it is a feature of most Noodler’s ink.

I won’t personally recommend this ink but if you already have a good collection of the Singapore series ink then maybe you should just get it to complete the collection. The bottle does however have a nice picture of the Singapore skyscapers and a statue of Sir Stamford Raffles, the founder of modern Singapore so it could be a nice memorbilia of Singapore!

<Below is a scan of the bleedthrough. As you can see, there is significant bleedthrough on the Moleskine paper.>
