The most recent study has found that the oil sands does in fact pollute and affect its watershed... heavy metals such as copper, lead, mercury, nickel, silver and zinc are more prominent than is considered safe in the Athabasca watershed. Is it really a surprise? Of course not!!

It seems clear now that the remediation was terribly insufficient. Just ask the local children suffering from horrible birth defects and higher rates of cancer... Children who, in my opinion, regularly act more maturely than the lawyers at Chevron!

It comes as no surprise that Chevron's actions in Ecuador, would once again be illegal if they were done in the US. It didn't stop Texaco (now owned by Chevron) from dumping toxic waste into the jungle and tributaries of the Amazon river, allegedly 18 billion gallons of it, which was against the law in the US at the time. It also didn't stop Chevron's spokesman, James Craig from placing large advertisements in El Comercio, a leading Ecuadorian newspaper.
