As the days are growing warmer and longer, I wanted to take this time to check in with all of my wonderful followers. Happy New Year to those of you I've not had the personal opportunity to say that to and Happy New Season for everyone who is reading this blog right now.

With every new season, especially spring, there is the opportunity to start something new and exciting or to really refresh and invigorate what is already present in our lives. This spring, I am doing both! I hope that you will join me as the Natural Hair Journey has many marvelous things in store for 2013 and beyond.

It's been sometime since I checked in on the blog and even more time since I updated you on my Sisterlocks journey. As many of you know, I had my sisterlocks installed in March 2010. Check out the videos from the very beginning of my journey below.

Well, now, here it is, April 2013. 3 years later and I have to say that my sisterlocks and I am surprised at how long my Sisterlocks have grown! I love the length because now it pushes me to be more creative with my hair. I love the versatility of my sisterlocks and how there are so many styles that I can take inspiration from whether they are natural or not. See the difference in the pics below from 2 years ago to last weekend!

Sisterlocks has been such a powerful experience for me and for many of the women I work with. I look forward to sharing more about my experience and the experience of others with you in the months to come.

As I close this post, I'd like to leave each of you with one last thought as you continue your own personal journey. Whether you have traditional locs, Sisterlocks, twists, cornrows, or are traininstioning from a relaxer, whatever the style or state of your hair, today is a new day, today is a new season so let this be a new POSITIVE step on your natural hair journey. Let's walk together.

She was forced to make a tough decision to cut her hair, locks to be exact, of which she was growing for the last 7 years. She was not ready to go back to short hair, nor did she want anything that did not have a natural look to it. She needed something that would give her a professional edge as well.

So she opted for this look, that gave her confidence, and also gave her and her hair a break for a few weeks while her hair would begin to grow well. She also had to be pro active, by doing activites that improved, and helped her cope with the stress, like yoga, and help from her doctor.

I thought this would be of use to many of you. Mack is a follower of Natural Hair Journey, and time to time he has reached out to me, to find if he is on the right track on his locking journey.

Here is his recent inquiry.

Hello Kirigo,

It's Mack again. First I want to thank you for your advice on not oiling my hair to much. It was very helpful and has worked out well for me.

It's been 6 months since I have had my locks now and they are coming along very well. My hair stylist has been braiding my locks back when I re twist and this has worked well for me because I run marathons. As a runner I have been wearing dry fit hats to hold the locks in place but i sweat a lot. Is the sweat helpful or harmful for my locks and scalp?

My second question to you is about re twisting product. My stylist uses Organic Root stimulator Lock and twist gel. what do you think of this product? Is there any other things I can use when re twisting or should i just stay with what i've been using?

Peace,

Mack.

RESPONSE BY THE NATURAL HAIR COACH:

Hello Mack Exilus,

Good to hear from you again. I am pleased to hear that the tips I shared with you, have been of value to you.

As for your first question: If sweat is harmful to your locks?

Answer:

No it is not, however if you do not wash your locks weekly or biweekly, the locks will develop an odor caused by mildew that will be difficult to wash out with regular shampoo.

Question 2: What do I think of Organic Root Stimulator?

Answer:

I have never used it, but with any product, moderation is the key. Actually less is best in my books. If you find that this product has worked for you, and your locks do not have any build up or look dull. Then carry on with it. If you see results which ever way, there is your answer.

Hope this has been of some help to you.

Thanks for your support.

The demand for Sisterlocks is also growing in Africa as a whole, which goes to show that all cultures are blending, and the natural hair needs are similar within the African diaspora.

Here is a sister, who had been looking for someone who is certified in Sisterlocks, to install her natural hair into Sisterlocks. She had done enough research to know that it was necessary to find the right person to do the job.

Rule number one, you must find the right person!

The right person is someone who has taken the Sisterlocks training, this way you are guranteed that you are getting the true authentic Sisterlocks.

Listen to her, as she shares, and see if you can resinate with her experience.
