Douglas E Castle Leaves TNNWC to Pursue Other Interests

Dear Friends, Readers And Colleagues:

This is one of the most difficult letters that I have had to write. While I am quite enthused about the challenges and opportunities which lie ahead, I am more than the slightest bit forlorn about what I am forced to leave behind.

Effective one week ago (29th September) I officially left my assignment with TNNWC Group, LLC and formally resigned from my duties as the Company's Acting Chairman and Chief Executive Officer.

After much consideration, I have decided to pursue my own interests and passions in writing, speaking and strategic planning, as well as a number of my long-neglected hobbies and research in a number of areas. The prospect of working on my own is a daunting one, and I am grateful for the friendships and camaraderie which developed during my time invested with TNNWC, and continue to remain a source of inspiration and support.

This is both a timely and an amicable parting. I will continue to publish prolifically, and the rights to re-publication and re-printing of any of my syndicated blogs, RSS feeds and other content shall continue to be available, without restriction to TNNWC and Adam J. Kovitz, who remains a dear friend and shall be holding the reins at TNNWC.

I intend to remain actively engaged in my areas of business expertise domestically and internationally, and will be doing so on a very selective basis.

To those of you whose emails, networking invitations and requests to me have gone unanswered, please accept my profound apologies. I fully intend to get caught up with all of my delinquent correspondence during the next two weeks. Your patience with me is deeply appreciated. As a number of you might have surmised, things have been beyond hectic.

None of this constitutes any type of retirement; rather, it constitutes a renewed pledge to my own personal and professional growth, and to the next stage in the evolution of my life.

I wish each and all of my former associates at TNNWC and its affiliated companies the best of health, happiness and fulfillment in all of their endeavors. I am appreciative of the opportunity to be of service, and I am thankful for all that you have taught me.

Sustainability And Capitalism - Synergistic, Not Mutually Exclusive

Collaboration and Competition are not mutually exclusive. Neither are Sustainability and Capitalism.

Sustainability creates employment opportunities, spawns innovation, and is based upon a sound economic principle of efficiency; just as the profitability of a capitalistic institution, i.e., a business, is largely dependent upon the the leveraging of efficiencies.

The trick is to get both sides, the Sustainability/ Environmentalist contingent, and the Capitalist/ Entrepreneurial contingent, to engage in open-minded dialogue to the benefit of both. The steps are sensible enough:

1) Get the attention of thought-leaders on both sides;

2) Get them seated at the same table to explore their common objectives -- the things that bind them are vastly greater and of more value than the differences (largely perceived, and born of overzealousness, rivalry and a general politicized bigotry);

3) Get them to understand that they can work together synergistically, to the benefit of both, and to the detriment of neither.

To quote a line from a movie, "What we have here is a failure to communicate."

The initial task of getting the parties to sit down together peaceably will require the skills of a diplomat, a moderator and a negotiator/ dealmaker. But this is a task that needs to be performed and rapidly. This failure to communicate and to collaborate costs every citizen of the world with every day that passes, both in terms of a struggling global economy, and an environment that is becoming increasingly toxic. -DC

SUSTAINABILITY: FUELED BY INTELLIGENT CAPITALISM

A Note to my friends, fellow TNNWC clients, entrepreneurs, thought-leaders, strategic planners, marketers, financial service providers, bankers, environmentalists, ecological activists, nature-lovers, bakers and candlestick makers:

Capitalism is not a bad thing, per se. At its core, it is a system where profits are gained by those able to provide a product or a service at a fair (determined by a theoretical "free market") price. Money (i.e., currency) is supposed to be a simple medium of exchange, and a convenient method of storing value or wealth.

Money is useful for accounting purposes and is much more efficient to use than negotiated barter for most of us.

For example, when I visit an e-commerce site to buy vitamins, or [even better], to pre-order sustainability expert Eric Lowitt’s breakthrough book, titled, “The Future Of Value,” on his site or through Amazon.com, I usually have to use a credit card or PayPal account, as there is almost never a “how many goats will you give us for your order?” payment option when I finally go to checkout after reviewing my shopping cart.

Putting monetary and fiscal policy aside (and notwithstanding the government's playing with the economy, or the inequitable distribution of wealth and privilege in many countries), and speaking to small business owners, captains of emerging enterprises and innovators worldwide, Unmitigated Greed, Shortsightedness, And Ignorance are the parasites which have invaded and converted the innovative and inviting DNA of capitalism and have turned it into a corpulent, lethargic sea slug with a sense of entitlement, a sociopathic demeanor and a horrible reputation.

But compassionate capitalists (I consider myself to be one of those), see the motivational potential in capitalism -- its potential for inspiration, productivity, jobs creation and for philanthropy. There is still a hidden heart of nobility in the body of capitalism.

We must nourish that part, that heart, and use capitalism as a motivator for long-term good. The very Human force which makes capitalism possible is entrepreneurship. As an entrepreneurial rising star, or as the CEO of a Fortune 1000 Company, it is incumbent upon you to use resources efficiently, i.e., to maximize the yield on assets and minimize any waste, in the interest of generating continuous profits, and accumulating wealth and genuine value over the longer-term.

That is precisely why I think that those of us who are visionary compassionate capitalists (and who are infused with the entrepreneurial spirit) should be more supportive of our neighbors who are screaming at us (as we back our gas-guzzling limousines out of the meandering driveways of our gated mansions, leaving tire marks on the lawn and knocking over garbage pails and mailboxes with callous impunity) about "thinking green."

That is also why you green beings should stop pointing a generalized finger (whichever one you ordinarily use) at all of those who strive to better themselves and to earn more money to build fortunes. We are not all evil. The system is quite corrupted, but has some salvageability in helping you folks o' the forest (just being silly, here – humblest apologies to those lovely wood nymphs!) to build the planetary future and the better, healthier standard of living that we all truly want.

Perhaps we need a clever slogan to just break the ice…something like: “Get.” More Green By Going Green The irony is that the term “green” symbolically unites both sides. And also, just from the standpoint of practicality, using a bitter slogan (bumper sticker material) like “NEUTER THE POLLUTER!” will probably not engender friendly, open dialogue.

We need to help each other. We need to work together. There is a great prospect for genuine symbiosis, collaborative synergy and wonderful, new, innovative solutions to so many of the world's problems by our becoming better friends... –Douglas E. Castle

Entrepreneurial Small Business Has A Money-Making Formula - WorkFly, Inc.

Entrepreneurial small businesses can grow based upon providing opportunities for making money as well as by providing an innovative service or by licensing or selling new intellectual property.

In the case of WorkFly, Inc., which recently became a TNNWC Management Consulting Client [I'll gloat for just a moment. Thanks. I'm finished now], Founder Danco Sotirovski has an ambitious plan for restoring a pulse to the American Dream. In fact, he has built it into his business plan. I like the sound of "Private Sector Jobs Creation."

Businesses which generate jobs and income opportunities for people who are willing to work should be given special attention by angel investors, venture capitalists, and by all of us -- the TNNWC Community.

If anyone involved in government happens to be reading this (especially if you're with the Small Business Administration, Federal Reserve System, Treasury Department, Commerce Department or any Economic Development Agency, either state or federal), perhaps you could get your colleagues to invest more money where it will produce the biggest real, sustainable return... not in bloated institutions "too big to fail," but in small, private sector ventures which are "too promising to fail" with the help of a small injection of funds.

This is a very lengthy post. Please read it anyway. I promise to make it interesting and worth your precious time. - DC

According to Mr. Danco Sotirovski, the innovative energetic entrepreneur who founded WorkFly, Inc., a Michigan- based early-stage company which has built its own business plan, has done its MVP (minimum viable product) analysis of its own concept development, and has funded itself to the point where it is ready to launch, business is just a matter of common sense applied to problem solving. But Mr. Sotirovski has very, very big plans.

Yes, Danco Sotirovski has developed a genuine economic stimulus package, The WorkFly Workforce Project, which would revive the small business sector, encourage consumerism, and create jobs for virtually anyone who was read, willing and able to work...part-time or full-time.

Perhaps Danco should have a series of private sessions ( I would encourage him to do this at no charge, as a professional courtesy and as a patriotic, frustrated American -- not unlike myself and my colleagues at TNNWC Group, LLC) with Ben Bernanke, The FOMC, The U.S. Treasury Department, The U.S. State Department, The United Nations, President Obama (and his "blue ribbon" panel of advisors), The European Central Bank, as well as every head of state in every country suffering from a spoiled economy in a feeble state of [cue laughter from audience] "slower-than-expected recovery." I've seen more activity from the displays in a wax museum than I've seen in the U.S. and so many of the other giant industrialized nations.

The enthusiastic and engaging Sotirovski is using a time-tested but brilliantly tweaked platform (think about Angie's List, Craigslist, eHarmony, eBay and all of the other companies which have made millions upon millions of dollars by matching consumer needs to vendors and service providers, or by using a variation on this matchmaking theme) to create a means for connecting small-local businesses throughout the country with local consumers who need their vital services on an immediate or near-term basis.

These small businesses sign on (at a nominal fee) to become part of WorkFly's core data base, which then steers these businesses to compelled, pre-qualified customers. A customer can order a search for, let's say, five local vendors to fix a plumbing or automotive problem. This efficiently connects struggling small businesses with a stream of client opportunities -- just as it provides a wonderful service for consumers who are "ready to buy NOW!" Value is added on both sides.

Workfly is actually creating an economic stimulus to bolster the survival and profitability of local businesses throughout the country, but he is helping frustrated, overwrought consumers to gain an immediate solution to their problems by being the conduit and connection agency.

None of these small local area businesses could ever afford this type of finely tuned direct customer marketing on its own. If I continued this schedule, after three years, I would be making $36,000.00 dollars per year on an average investment of time of one or two hours daily. And I have no ongoing maintenance work to do once a Client is signed up.

The cost to a Client for WorkFly's stream of leads is so insignificant (even in today's dollars), that I don't have to sell at all. I just walk in, explain, get a "Heck, yeah!" from my local locksmith, and I'm finished.

And, incidentally, if I continue at this leisurely pace for 5 years (again - working about an hour or so per day), I would have an annual income stream [even if I were to stop working] of a spare $60,000.00 per year. Not bad. Beats Unemployment, or waiting to be "de-hired."

Of course, If I actually wanted to take this seriously and work at signing up an average of 10 businesses per day (50 businesses per week, or 2,500 Clients in one year's time), I could actually be generating an income of $30,000. 00 per year -- after three years, I would be making $90,000.00 per year. If I stopped there, I would be making a sustainable, passive, recurring income of $90,000.00 per year without working.

Small, visionary early stage companies like WorkFly, Inc. make the long-sleeping "American Dream" an attainable, realistic goal. I can work as much as I want to generate as much income as I want -- and I don't have to worry about getting fired, collecting unemployment, or becoming a denizen of the "underground economy."

Negotiating: Postures And Perceptions - Deal-Making Psychology

A negotiator must always be convinced that he is in a position to walk away from any deal or terms of his liking. He must also exude the air of nonchalance that comes with simply looking for a bargain. This requires some autohypnosis, practice, self-control and certain body language.

The master negotiator must not merely play the courageous role - he must believe it. He will appear to be tentative about his interest in the subject about which he is negotiating, as if he were not quite that enthused about it -- as if he had numerous other options and was merely entertaining a discussion. He generally appears to be a bit bored (or perhaps tired), and will shift his attentive focus from the matter at hand to other things, as if his concentration had to be earned.

He may gratuitously smile when something is proposed to him, as if he were palliating a child -- or as if he much better options at the ready.

He might appear late for the scheduled meeting, and may look distractly at his watch from time to time. He will listen, but will mostly respond with body language and will remain non-committal to gain further concessions, and to obtain other information from the other side. His silence and his hesitation to appear genuinely interested are his greatest strengths.

His air of indifference and distraction will agitate the other side. It will serve to make them careless, in terms of excessive "chatty" disclosure and too much eagerness. They feel an impending sense of los or defeat, and have become pridefully invested in making some kind of deal --- if just to get his serious focus and full attention.

This type of negotiator is so tough, that he might leave the negotiating table, politely excusing himself (as if he had other more important items to attend to) and saying, "Thanks. It sounds interesting. I'll have to get back to you. I'm a bit pressed for time."

The result of his masterful posturing is its effect on the psyche of the other side. They will probably begin feeling that he might already have a better deal in progress elsewhere, or that they did not entice him enough to keep him interested. They will, if foolish enough, pursue him in a move indicative of anxiety and desperation, and give him "reasons" (usually volunteered concessions, deal sweeteners, and other causes) to come back to the table.

This negotiator is a behavioral psychologist -- and he knows that his quarry is upset about not getting his full attention, and about not seeming important enough to him. This gives him tremendous bargaining leverage.

He has now opened up the gateway for the other side to try to "sell" him on their terms. They begin to act as a desperate seller or buyer might act, and in so doing, lose their leverage with this fellow. They might even be divided in terms of how to pull him back into the play, and may quarrel among themselves.

Some uselful information follows...just remember to put your scrolling gloves on -- this is a long one, baby! But first, an ominous image.

The Reason For This Article's Existence:
The search engine optimized, sticky, content-rich, focused blog gathers the most followers. Here are the rules for building your "best-reach, longest potency" articles. Your visitors (both recurring and unique) and traffic will increase dramatically and rapidly if you simply don't tamper with the following proven formula.

Frequency:

You should write an entry at least once weekly.

Length:

The ideal length is generally between 3 to a maximum of 11 paragraphs; each of which should be short and punchy. Wherever possible, create simple lists, either bulletized or numbered. People love lists, rankings, trends, statistics and factoids.

Subject:

Be consistent in terms of the area or field you write about or focus upon. Build your reputation this way. Become known as a thought-leader or expert. Write with some passion, or don't write at all.

Title:

The title must be keyword stuffed within its first 120 characters.

First Paragraph:

The first paragraph should also be keyword-stuffed, but with a synopsis of why the article is important (its possible benefits) to the reader.

Closing:

Always use your full name or pseudonym {with a hyperlink to a site which contains your curriculum vitae or biography) and cite the name of your blog (hyperlinked to your blogsite address). If you write a smaller-fonted "p.s." section immediately beneath your signature closing, it will always be read. If you write your p.s. in a different font and/or color, you increase the likelihood of getting it great attention.

Your article is a sandwich (want a pickle with that?) -- from top to bottom it is:

Keyword-stuffed title;
Keyword-stuffed first paragraph with a synopsis of why the article id important;
Your content (which should be laced with in-text hyperlinked references);
Your closing;
Your p.s. message.

If you choose to add pictures, that's always acceptable, but they should not be overly large, and you should not have more than one image for every 3 to 5 paragraphs at maximum. Images should be centered, or set off to the left side of your posting field. Use unique and exciting images, wherever possible.

Do not use flashing images in your article -- they distract and disturb readers, and they also tend to draw the focus away from your content. Be certain that the important elements of your article (down to and including your closing) do not require scrolling on the part of your reader -- keep your best substance "above the fold" to the greatest extent possible. If your writing a long post, warn your readers (apologetically) about their having to scroll further.

As for some additional tips, try these:

1) Put together your own list (in small font) of "Labels, Tags, Keywords, Categories and Search Terms" after your p.s., and hyperlink those all to your blog's url, or any other url which you wish to build in terms of traffic.

2) After your list of "Labels, Tags, Keywords...etc." list hyperlinked titles to several "related articles" by authors other than yourself if the reader chooses to go further with his or her investigation or study of your topic.

3) Be certain that your blog sends out an RSS feed (I use Feedburner), and that every new article is "pinged" to all of the relevant search engines. For this, I recommend that you Pinglerize -- that is, subscribe to the Pingler service immediately...go to (click on):

Their service is unbelieveably cheap and the best in the marketplace - they have a package where they will automatically ping up to 50 blogs (yours!) as frequently as every three days to well in excess of 100 excellent search engines.

Entrepreneur Health Alert: Stress Overload

Every entrepreneur experiences some level of stress. Its source is usually related to some part or several parts of the typical entrepreneurial process: long working hours; overwhelming, recurring responsibilities; financial challenges; too little time for exercise, recreation or socializing; conflicts with partners or associates; a number of failures in a trial and error process; not being able to relate to (or to be truly understood by) those who are retired, conventionally employed, financially "set".

The above processes can take their toll upon your emotional and physical health. The severity of the effects of continuous stress overload are generally enhanced and more pronounced in persons who have any combination of the following characteristics or "exacerbating factors":

1) Being over the age of 40;

2) Being prone to depression or anxiety;

3) Being prone to precision or perfectionism;

4) Working in a physically isolating environment (telecommuting or solopreneuring are perfect examples);

5) Working under intense (real or perceived) financial pressure;

6) Having a need to please others by saying "yes" when you mean to say "no" to their impositions upon your time or limited resources - this can also serve to make you more than a slight bit resentful;

7) Having a great many distractions (as opposed to productive "diversions") in your work environment;

8) Being immersed in a constant whirlwind of crisis management;

9) Being in a position (real or preceived) of great responsibility to those around you, or to those who have faith or trust in you.

10) Having an undefined working schedule where your work can consume all of your time - often without any relief or release.

Any or all of the above exacerbating conditions will make you even more vulnerable to stress overload. Below is a list of things to watch out for -- stress overload must be recognized, addressed and controlled; otherwise it can cause very real emotional and physical damage.

Signs and symptoms of stress overload

The following table lists some of the common warning signs and symptoms of stress. The more signs and symptoms you notice in yourself, the closer you may be to stress overload.

Keep in mind that the signs and symptoms of stress can also be caused by other psychological and medical problems. If you’re experiencing any of the warning signs of stress, it’s important to see a doctor for a full evaluation. Your doctor can help you determine whether or not your symptoms are stress-related.

Because of the widespread damage stress can cause, it’s important to know your own limit. But just how much stress is “too much” differs from person to person. Some people roll with the punches, while others crumble at the slightest obstacle or frustration. Some people even seem to thrive on the excitement and challenge of a high-stress lifestyle.

Your ability to tolerate stress depends on many factors, including the quality of your relationships, your general outlook on life, your emotional intelligence, and genetics.

Things that influence your stress tolerance level

Your support network – A strong network of supportive friends and family members is an enormous buffer against life’s stressors. On the flip side, the more lonely and isolated you are, the greater your vulnerability to stress.
Your sense of control – If you have confidence in yourself and your ability to influence events and persevere through challenges, it’s easier to take stress in stride. People who are vulnerable to stress tend to feel like things are out of their control.
Your attitude and outlook – Stress-hardy people have an optimistic attitude. They tend to embrace challenges, have a strong sense of humor, accept that change is a part of life, and believe in a higher power or purpose.
Your ability to deal with your emotions– You’re extremely vulnerable to stress if you don’t know how to calm and soothe yourself when you’re feeling sad, angry, or afraid. The ability to bring your emotions into balance helps you bounce back from adversity.
Your knowledge and preparation – The more you know about a stressful situation, including how long it will last and what to expect, the easier it is to cope. For example, if you go into surgery with a realistic picture of what to expect post-op, a painful recovery will be less traumatic than if you were expecting to bounce back immediately.

Uncertainty, especially over a prolonged period of time, will tend to greatly increase stress. Self-doubt is another stressor. Your mind and your body don't lie to you -- too much stress is simply too much. It cannot be allowed to continue.

How to Reduce, Prevent, and Cope with Stress

It may seem that there’s nothing you can do about your stress level. The bills aren’t going to stop coming, there will never be more hours in the day for all your errands, and your career or family responsibilities will always be demanding. But you have a lot more control than you might think. In fact, the simple realization that you’re in control of your life is the foundation of stress management.Managing stress is all about taking charge: taking charge of your thoughts, your emotions, your schedule, your environment, and the way you deal with problems. The ultimate goal is a balanced life, with time for work, relationships, relaxation, and fun – plus the resilience to hold up under pressure and meet challenges head on.

Identify the sources of stress in your life

Stress management starts with identifying the sources of stress in your life. This isn’t as easy as it sounds. Your true sources of stress aren’t always obvious, and it’s all too easy to overlook your own stress-inducing thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. Sure, you may know that you’re constantly worried about work deadlines. But maybe it’s your procrastination, rather than the actual job demands, that leads to deadline stress.

To identify your true sources of stress, look closely at your habits, attitude, and excuses:

Do you explain away stress as temporary (“I just have a million things going on right now”) even though you can’t remember the last time you took a breather?
Do you define stress as an integral part of your work or home life (“Things are always crazy around here”) or as a part of your personality (“I have a lot of nervous energy, that’s all”).
Do you blame your stress on other people or outside events, or view it as entirely normal and unexceptional?

Until you accept responsibility for the role you play in creating or maintaining it, your stress level will remain outside your control.

1) A support network of confidantes you can discuss issues with;

2) A partner or two -- going it alone is very, very punishing;

3) Defined working hours, beyond which you will not work, and will not think about work;

4) Things to do (exercise, education, recreation, and other things) that force you to leave your work behind;

5) To have people (not virtual...but real) around you for a period of time each day;

6) A daily time for meditation or music;

7) Weekly social activities - they don't have to be complicated, formal or expensive -- they just have to get you out of your work space.

It is imperative, both in terms of your personal survival and for the success of your business, that you take whatever steps may be necessary in order to control and channel your stress. This is indeed an increasingly prevalent and serious issue, and must be given attention.

Stress can be either productive (in limited doses, it initiates creativity, sharpens problem-solving skills, and accelerates entrepreneurial achievement), or destructive (unceasing, relentless hypervigilance of the "fight or flight" response which leads to serious cardiac, emotional and even psychiatric issues).

Stress which is constant, and which cannot be quelled, calmed or cognitively resolved creates tremendous levels of anxiety, depression, aggression and even schizophrenia.
