At first it was a 911 phone call exclaiming "He's not breathing!" Headlines proclaimed Michael Jackson being rushed to the local hospital.Possibly due to heart trouble.

No less then 2 hours later, another legend had perished within the river of death. At 226 P.M.(Pacific Standard Time) death had claimed no ordinary victim.

Many from across the four corners were devastated as if losing one of their own. Clearly nothing like this has ever happened in the music scene since the death of John Lennon(1980) nor Princess Diana(1997). Many who have worked with the pop star have felt a piece of their hearts pass away that fateful night.

SHINEY AHUJA tells JYOTHI VENKATESH on the sets of Accident, that he prefers to spend time after pack up with his wife Anupam and his daughter, who he loves very dearly, ironically just three days before he was arrested on the charge of raping his maid

What is your role in Accident?
I play the role of Akshat, an IT guy who is working in California in Accident which is being produced by Pritish Nandy Communications and directed by Abhijeet Bhattacharya.The film is about how horror strikes and what happens when Akshat decides to move to India for a change, along with his wife played by Soha Ali Khan.

I can identify a lot with the role of Akshat, because like Akshat, my sister and brother in law who were also in IT have come back to India from the USA

Considering the fact that you are always extra choosy as an actor, what made you grab the project?
I liked the script as well as the team behind the project and hence decided to grab the project though it is true that I have been extra choosy about my films and select very few that appeal to me. In order of preference I go by first the script and my role and then I see who the director is and then the team.

How has the experience of working with a director like Abhijeet been?
It has been wonderful working with a director like Abhijeet because he is a perfect mix ion visual aesthetics and performance. Abhijeet has a good grip over his actors and their performances, especially since he has an ad background.

Why do you have this reputation of not being friendly with your leading ladies?
An actor need not be a good friend of every actor with whom he is acting, though he has to be friendly. I am friendly with my co-actors. I may know you for several years but that does not mean that you are my best friend.

Preity Zinta did not invite you to her party after the shoot of Har Pal. Why?
Yes. It is true that Preity Zinta who is my leading lady in Jahnu Barua’s Har Pal did not invite me to a party that she hosted. So what? However let me clarify that what Preity had stated had been picked out of context by the media. Preity had only stated that both she and I did not hang out after the shoot with each other. What she said was true.

You have been described as shy and introvert. Describe the real Shiney Ahuja!
Neither have I ever been extra friendly nor have I insulted any one in my life. Let me assert that I am neither shy nor an introvert as I have been labeled all these years ever since I had made my debut with Sudhir Mishra’s Hazaar Khwahishen Aisi.

It is just that I prefer to spend as much time with my wife Anupam and daughter who I love dearly, as soon as the pack up is announced.

Is it true that you have made an attempt to break your image as an actor with Har Pal?
As an actor, it has never been my endeavor to break my image. Though I played a negative role in Vinod Pandey’s Sins, I played a serious role in Hazaar Khwahishen Aisi. In Jahnu Barua’s Har Pal, I do not have a serious image.

It is my first ever romantic comedy, though Preity has essayed similar roles before. It is in fact a different film for Jahnu Barua who has been making serious issue based films earlier including Maine Gandhi Ko Nahin Maara.

Do you think that it is a handicap as an actor, being saddled with serious roles?
You would not believe it but the fact is that when I was doing theatre way back in Delhi, I had never ever done a serious role and all my friends there used to tell me not to try to go to Mumbai and try my luck as an actor in Bollywood for the simple reason that I was not at all cut out to do serious roles.

Why did you decide to do a small part in a big set up like Bhool Bhulaiya?
I decided to take up the offer to do a part in an Akshay Kumar project like Bhool Bhulaiya only because the film had Priyadarshan as the director and ten times more budget than the kind of films which I used to do earlier. I feel that it is good to be a part of a film that has a certain reach.

How did you feel being overshadowed in Bhool Bhulaiya?
If you ask me whether I felt overshadowed by Akshay Kumar in the film, all that I can say that I am only a three year old actor in films whereas Akshay has put in nineteen more years than I have.

I have always believed in my part and my director. Considering that all the jokes in the film start only after Akshay makes his entry in the interval of the film, it was a foregone conclusion that Akshay would walk away with all the applause in the film.

There is a complaint against you that you interfere with your directors.
I do not know how I have been labeled as an interfering actor. It is far from true. I just do my job as an actor and do not interfere with my directors.

Earlier the media used to write that Aamir was interfering with his directors but now that Aamir has proved to be a successful mega star, now it is being said that Aamir is only contributing for the betterment of his film.

Which films are in your kitty after Har Pal and Accident?
Right now I am excited about playing the interesting role of Richard in James Ordinez in his International film Silver Cord. I was zeroed in for the project after the producers had seen my performances in films like Gangster and Hazaar Khwahishen Aisi.

Silver Cord is a science fiction romantic film. It is quite sad that in India science fiction films have never worked in the past because we try to cut corners and make a 30 crores film in 3 crores.

Pritam in depression: I did not steal New York song

The super-successful Pritam Chakraborty is a very unhappy man right now.

The accusation that the track Hai junoon from New York is copied from a track Naluri lelaki by the Samsons has put the composer in a state of depression.

Defending himself Pritam says, “When I was getting inspired by outside sources I openly admitted it, right up to the title track in Race. Now when I am not copying from any source why am I being attacked? Hai junoon is not copied from any source. I can swear on my music on that. I’ve vowed never to copy from any source.”

Surprisingly the charge was leveled first by singer Pankaj Awasthi on the internet. Awasthi has sung for Pritam in New York.

On Yashraj Films’ request Awasthi hastily withdrew his palgiarism allegations against Pritam But the damage was done.

The latest allegation has taken its toll on Pritam’s family life.

“My wife is very disturbed. And I haven’t slept for two nights, ” said Pritam on Sunday afternoon. “What is the point of success when we aren’t allowed to enjoy it? The internet us filled with abuse against me. It’s unfair. That’s all I can say.”

Pritam returned from Goa before he was assailed by these accusations. He was there for a very unusual assignment. We generally have composers settling scores before the film starts shooting, or at the most delivering individual songs before it’s being shot.

But here’s a case in reverse. Pritam flew to Goa this week to check out the shooting of Rohit Shetty’s All The Best before composing the song.

Explains Pritam, “I understood what my producer Ajay Devgan and the director Rohit wanted. And I already had a couple of tunes in mind for the situation. But we decided I go there get a feel of the mood and then compose. Once I went to Goa I got a complete feel of the rhythm and tempo and atmosphere of the scene. I immediately knew which tune to use.”

Pritam returned from Goa to these terrible accusations.

People meet me on streets and say Sir Ek Gaali Do Na: Raghu

Raghuram who gave nightmare to the contestants in MTV Roadies, got candid in an interview talking about his film, fundas and future. Reality show specialist will be for the first time dealing with fiction with the film 1-800-love. So guys get geared to expect many unexpected avatar of his.

On film offers…
Rajeev and I have received many film offers. But the fact is that we don’t have time. I turned down the offer from a big production house over date issues.

Very sarcastic remark came from him saying oh! Raghuram does not have time and has date issues. I was doing Roadies then. I said yes Raghuram has date issue more than your biggest star because Raghuram is an employee and usse chhutti ki arzi deni hoti hai. I can’t stand up and say hey shoot for me anytime.

On his film debut…
I desperately needed a break from work and had decided upon a sabbatical. But very next day I got a call from Abbas Tyrewala. I am playing an integral part in his film 1-800-love that stars John Abraham and Abbas’s wife Pakhi.

I’m not playing negative character but it’s a normal personality like in Jaane Tu… Genelia’s fiancé, he was not a villain, he was a certain character. My look will be the same in the movie. mujhe wig pehna diya jaayega toh koi pehchaanega hi nai.

On Abbas Tyrewala…
If you see Jane Tu Ya Jaane Naa…there are no black, white or grey characters. I like Abbas bhai because he does not look at the world as black or white. We do meet such characters in life. Abbas was looking for that character that has personality like me.

He auditioned lot of people but nobody fit the character thus he approached me. I told him personality toh theek hai but performance is your department as I am not the born performer.

I had only met him at the premier and once for the celebration of his movie along with my wife Sugandha Garg. She did not recommend my name at all for my film. As I have barged unknown number in my phone Sugandha conveyed me that he (Abbas) has been trying to get in touch with me.

On Roadies after-effects…
I use to get weird calls including death threats at odd times. Once it was three in the morning. A guy called Arjun constantly kept calling me. I told him that I don’t take calls at this time. He still kept calling but I did not answer. Guess what he messaged me saying baat karle baksh dunga, Warna tu gaya.

I was like Mare ja raha hai baat karne ko karle jo karna hai…I did not speak to him. Then I changed my number but again my new number got leaked on Orkut. So I got unknown numbers barged.

I am very private person in fact I stop going to places where people start staring at me. Log kehte hai bewkufi hai what if someone has some serious work with you. I am like gaya toh gaya but I don’t wanna be bothered.

At times mujhe log street pe milte hai they say sir ek gaali do. Yeh kya baat hui…Fir mein gaali deta hoon they say thank you. Its strange log gaali sunna chahte hai mujhse. The say sir aapse ek baar fadwaani hai.

On acting career
I do not want to come on camera. I opposed to my best for even roadies audition. Only reason that I agreed was that I knew what I want out of a Roadie and I could speak Hindi. I am a person who will execute behind the camera.

Acting is what I never wanted to do but I’m passionate about music. Cameras don’t make me nervous but I am edgy about acting. It is altogether different that I have been doing so far.

If meri wajah se retakes hote gaye toh mereko bahut burra lagega. Films are far more expensive than shows. Kya hoga yaar! Mereko sabse bada tension yeh hai ki kissi sad scene mein koi ro raha hai aur mein hass pada.

On future in acting…
I never ever planned Bollywood. I don’t anyway foresee a long career in film industry for myself because of the way I look, I won’t experiment either.

On Childhood …
We are from South Indian middle class family where you have to study, get a good job, get married and settle down. We were not that good student. All our focus was in making a better student. There were no extra curricular activities that we would take part in.

I now feel that it was a mistake. We were not good in studies because that did not interested us. Music interested us, story telling interested us. We did drop out from college and started working. It’s almost 15 years now. Everyone can do everything but only few people excel.

Maths class mein har koi baithta hai, log 100% bhi laate hai aur mere jaise fail bhi hote hai. Meine ek baar zero laaye the, fir maine mehnat ki mehnat ki aur agle test meine ek laaye tha. Ussi class mein mere bagal mein baithne waals usse 25 mein se 25 lata tha.

Seekhaya toh sabko jata hai lekin who kuch log hote hai jo seekh jaate hai. So it is all about if you have an aptitude you can become an actor. If you are good at some thing you should get trained and then you improve with experience.

On MTV…
MTV, I and Rajeev share a connection. Our energies match. No channel would like to show our idea but MTV loves it. So it’s fun to be here. Why go else where.

On VJying…
People think who can gel their hair and go to gym can become a VJ. VJying too needs an intrinsic talent. According to me Nikhil and Ranvijay are the best presenters we have. But all I and Rajeev can do is we can express ourselves most effectively. If some shows will require us as a personality we will do it.

On his Love for music
Rajeev and I always had affinity towards music. When we were 5 months old we would react to the emotions of the song. If it is sad song we would cry and if it happy song we would laugh. I do play guitar but I regret not learning Karnataka music.

Our teacher said that they can be brilliant singers only if they can sit still for an hour. So they refuse to teach us. We use to do choreography in college and continued it for 5 years. I am also associated with a band called Agni. I wrote Roadies theme song, I wrote song for Team Diva with Agni.

Lot of my friends asks me to cut an album but I believe though I am a better singer than most of them but it does not mean that I can come up with an album. Sonu Nigam, Jagjit Singh, ….they are so good, that is the standard of singing.
