Uh-Oh!

Saturday’s show was a really fun time. If you couldn’t make it you missed out.
For one thing we had a full cast of players with Bill, Jill, Rox, Pat and Zeke all coming out to play.
We love having a full crew as it really expands our capabilities and it showed.
Our short form set consisted of: Boo-Yay, which is an all play game, Ding! with Pat and Dave, Good-Bad-Ugly with Zeke, Jill and Dave, Slide Show with Rox, Jill and Rob as the slides and Bill as the narrator, Question Story, another all play and finishing up the set with, 3 things with Rox as the guesser.
Our second set started with First Line-Last Line. This is a fun little game that we can only play with a full team. After this we went on to short scenes, the our long form story. As usual we closed out with Worlds Worst.

Our Next show at the Black Box is scheduled for July the 17th so make your plans now!

MPIII Improv Comedy at the Black Box!

We return yet again to the Black Box stage in Plano Friday April 23rd! Come see our outrageous mix of short form and long form scenes in the 100% improvisational comedy show!
Doors open at 7:30pm, and the show starts at 8pm sharp! Tickets are $12 at the door (cash only), but you can get them online for $10! The show runs until about 9:40 or so, with a brief intermission.

Hey everyone, MPIII has been very busy lately, but thats a good thing when making laughs!

Here is a rundown of some of our recent shows.

MPIII at “World Theater Week” with Plano Children’s Theater
This was a great week of theater, wrapping up with some great improv groups, and MPIII was lucky enough to be part of the event. We performed our high energy brand of unscripted mayhem, in a completely clean and family friendly show based on audience suggestion. Yes, you read that right. Be amazed, we were! It was a great show, and while some acts go blue just to get laughs, it was great to have that challenge of a great show that could easily be done for family, church or corporate groups. Huge thanks to PCT for having us there.

The Motley Players Comedy at the Artists Alley at the Deep Ellum Arts Festival
This was a great event, and we were really excited to be there with the awesome crowd at Art Love Magic. We had a great time doing improv comedy for the crowds in this creative extravaganza of art and music. Huge thanks to Art Love Magic, and the Deep Ellum Arts Festival! Art Love Magic is hosting some great creative workshops on April 24th, check them out! (tell’em MPIII sent ya!)

Motley Players III doing Improv Comedy at Scarborough Renaissance Festival

MPIII makin da funny....

MPIII will be performing weekends through Memorial Day at the Scarborough Renaissance Festival in Waxahatchie. We will be doing our classic high energy short form improv comedy there, including our ‘weird three man show’ and our infamous “Improv Comedy Water Balloon Show”. We love the festival, as its where we started doing our Shakespeare parodies and folks just love our blend of improv and renfaire. Our daily showtimes are:

• 12:30 pm – Three Man Weird Show
• 2:30 pm – Improv Comedy Show
• 4:00 pm – Improv Comedy Show
• 5:30 pm – Improv Comedy Water Balloon Show!

We will be at Scarby every weekend, through Memorial Day. See you there!

Next MPIII Improv Comedy show in Dallas – Friday April 23rd

We will back at the Black Box stage in Plano Friday April 23rd for another night of awesome improv comedy in Dallas, MPIII style.  Like many of our Dallas comedy shows, this will be both a mix of short form improv and our unique take on more scene based structures.  Come see our creative comedy interpretation of your ideas at the Black Box in Plano.   Tickets are $12 at the door (cash only), and $10 online.

You never know exactly what you are going to get with improv, and on the night of March 19th, it was a fun and wild ride!
Big thanks to all of our fans who made it out to the show, and a huge welcome to all the new people who had their first MPIII experience!
It was a great show, and we can say that everyone had a good time, both on stage and off.

The players for the show.

• Beavis – Sure they picked on him, but it was funny. Well, for the rest of us!
• Rob – The in’s and out’s of being “that guy”.
• Jill – No one can do an elephant like her, and that says a lot!
• Rox – Straight from her starring role in the Czech classic “The fog from Peoria”
• Dave – Hosting as part of his witness protection program

Improv Structures in the show were:

• Question Story – MPIII does their version of “Othello” – the great classic with oreos
• Fwd Reverse – A fun ride of ‘time shifting’ and comedic mayhem – kind of like a drunk person playing with a dvr
• Lines from a hat – Players making sense out of random audience lines
• Foreign Movie – The MPIII translation of that Czech B-movie classic “The Fog from Peoria”
• Three Things – Our wildly popular high energy game of gibberish, guessing and mime, oh my!
• Short Scenes – Anything goes in this creative showcase, from witty on-liners to dramatic shorts, an MPIII favorite
• Long Form – An improvised story inspired from a short monologue based from audience suggestion – sometimes funny, sometimes surreal, but always MPIII!
• Worlds Worst – The MPIII signature classic, us bringing out the most hysterical examples of different situations put forth by the audience.

“In Texas: It is illegal to take more than three sips of beer at a time while standing”

WHAT??  You have GOT to be kidding me, right? Come on now, I’ve chugged countless beers in my adulthood and if that makes me a criminal, then so be it! It seems crazy to me that there could even BE such a law as to regulate the way a person consumes something, much less alcohol. Isn’t one of the reasons that being an adult and making your own decisions is cool? Then to be managed like this! And, this law only applies to beer? I think that’s a discrimination case if ever I heard one!  AARRGGHHHH…

Ok, well, let me calm down a bit and think about this. So maybe there is a reason for this law… lets explore that line of thinking. Follow me if you will…

Scenario 1. Man in a bar, standing. Drinking a beer, takes four sips and dribbles some on the floor. Another person walks by, slips on the spill, cracks their skull on the floor. Man is guilty of negligent homicide and sentenced to 30 years. Likely? Probably not.

Scenario 2. Woman in a club, standing. Woman takes three sips, then gets daring and takes a fourth, spilling on her blouse. Woman stains her blouse and sues the club for overfilling her drink. Law enacted to stop frivolous lawsuits. Possible? Nah.

Scenario 3. Two lawmakers sitting around one night talking. One says “I saw my wife standing and talking to this guy in the bar the other night and they were drinking a beer…it was awful”. Second one asks, “How long were they standing there talking?”. First one replies, “For at LEAST four sips, then they left together”. Probable? Yeah.

Silly, strange laws get passed all the time, I’m sure. And sure, they probably were meant to regulate some problem, but come on…three sips? And only beer?

Hhmmm…maybe I should start a petition to get this law revoked. Who’s with me?

As I sit here in my office,
On this day full of cheer,
I think of Motley Players,
As I open up my beer.

The day is warm and sunny,
Nothing could be finer,
And I sip my Bohemian Lager,
The finest black beer from Shiner.

The Faire is around the corner,
I wish it would not end,
I will see you and the others

Huge thanks to everyone who made it; there was a roller-coaster of comedy in Dallas that night the improv show was a huge blast!  To surreal and funny to describe (yeah, you can try, but wow!), it was a great night of comedy!  We did want to say, that even with the amazing bit on turkey bacon (you had to see it) that no actual turkeys or comedians were injured in the scene.

The show line up, for those who want to know what we actually call these bizzare comedy structures;

• Try that on for size – the action one where some things are best left undone (pat calling himself out!).
• Foreign Movie – Actors and translators doing that famous Esparanto classic “Plan 8 from Detroit”
• Slide Show – Comic world tour with our ’slides’ showing off  wild vacations from the audience.
• Lines from a hat – We take lines supplied by the audience (like woah! you guys) and integrate them into our scenes.
• Three Things – A crazy epic game where Rox has to figure out different wacky messed up activities based off the gibberish and antics of the other cast: Football with turkey bacon, and litter box tribbles, oh my!
• Short Scenes – Never before has a post-it held so much power – side splitting and surreal this structure is where the actors give a no-holds barred interpretation of audience suggestions.
• Clap Scene – Three scenes, six actors, 12 hands – tons of laughs.
• Long Form – Two short stories inspired by audience suggestions and actor monologues - some serious, some zany, all art – this is improv.
• Worlds Worst – MPIII’s grand closer, one of our most popular games.  We take your situations and make the worst of them!  A real crowd favorite “…and now for the politically incorrect portion of our show…”
