Others will remember how the translation of a certain amount of text was how to pass the exam in English in university. Some will also remember what difficulties they had in translating, especially from their mother tongue to English.</p>
<p>Many of these difficulties arise from the popular belief that it is enough to &#8220;know the words to translate the text.&#8221;  The good knowledge of a foreign language is a must. However, it is not sufficient to produce a high <a title="quality translation" href="http://www.themarketinganalysts.com/en/pages/dallas-translation-leader-english-spanish-german-french-russian-portuguese-korean-japanese-translators/">quality translation</a>.</p>
<p>We can often hear statements like: &#8220;A friend has finished an English Language High School, she translated it for me&#8221;. Recently, a friend of mine told me:  &#8221;My sister is a graduate of German Philology and she works for a small <a title="Jacksonville Translation Agency" href="http://www.themarketinganalysts.com/en/pages/jacksonville-translation-leader-jacksonville-translation-services-spanish-french-german-russian-portuguese-japanese-korean-chinese-translation-jacksonville-florida/">Jacksonville Translation Agency</a>.   Well, it is true that she is not very experienced yet – she has been doing it only for six months. <p>The problem is that language is traditionally regarded as a subject for study, the achievement at a test &#8211; as &#8220;level completed&#8221;, the graduation from a high school or philology as something unique, limited and highly specialized.  In fact, language is a communication tool which has arisen and developed spontaneously and chaotically in time and the people who have been using or changing it have no notion of vocabulary and grammar. Dictionaries and grammars only describe language as it is or should be, but do not prescribe how to use it. Teaching aids only provide guidance on generally accepted norms of expression, but they do not teach you how to communicate.</p>
<p>The simple conclusion from all the above-listed is that the diploma does not guarantee knowledge, and the title does not guarantee professional translator. The only way for a professional translator to maintain a constant level is to use language in real situations, constantly raise their qualification, and mostly &#8211; to understand and recognize his or her potential, because nobody is good enough in everything.</p>

When she talked to me, I was able to fully grasp the literal definitions of her speech but often couldn’t detect latent meanings. As she explained, “You speak German just like a textbook and not like a person.”</p>
<p>Language and ethnicity are merged in fundamental ways. Not being able to prove her legal status means she cannot receive treatment at a local hospital, receive a parcel at a mail center or cash a check in a bank, or simply rent a DVD or a CD, unless she has a government issued photo identification. <p>Tariffs can be classified as either revenue or protective tariffs.  Revenue tariffs are designed to raise funds for the importing government.  Protective tariffs, which are usually higher than revenue tariffs are designed to raise the retail price of an imported product to match or exceed that of a similar domestic product.   According to <a title="Milwaukee Translation Services" href="http://www.themarketinganalysts.com/en/pages/milwaukee-translation-leader-milwaukee-translation-services-spanish-french-german-russian-portuguese-japanese-korean-chinese-translation-milwaukee-wisconsin/">Milwaukee Translation Services</a> and localization workers, in 1983, Harley-Davidson Motor Company requested that the International Trade Commission impose a tariff on large-size motorcycles imported from Japan.  At the time, Japanese imports from Honda, Yamaha, Kawasaki and Suzuki held 86-percent of the U.S. market share, why Harley’s share dropped from 21-percent in 1978 to 12-percent in 1983.  The special tariff was set up on a sliding scale, adding 45-percent to the cost of Japanese imports in 1983 and gradually reducing the tariff to 10-percent in 1988.  During that period, Harley implemented productivity improvements that made its products more competitive with imports.  By 1986, Harley had regained 19-percent of the market and a year later asked the government to end the special protection.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Marketing the right product at the right time, in the right place and in the right was has earned an American firm the distinction of being one of the most successful companies – domestic or foreign –doing business in Japan.  Those achievements are attributed to John Amos, founder and chief marketer of American Family Life Insurance Company (Aflac) of Columbus, Georgia.  In 1970, Amos decided to hire a <a title="Chinese Translation Services" href="http://www.themarketinganalysts.com/en/pages/chicago-translation-leader-chicago-translation-service-spanish-french-german-russian-portuguese-japanese-korean-chinese-translation-chicago-illinois/">Chicago Translation Service</a> to assist him with taking his cancer insurance to Japan.  Today, Aflac is Japan’s largest writer of cancer policies, insuring about 14 percent of Japan’s 120 million people and receiving two-thirds of its revenues from Japan.</p>
<p>One important factor in the timing of Aflac’s entry in Japan was the Japanese Government’s decision to open its insurance market to foreign firms.  The government stipulated, however that foreign competitors could enter the market only by offering a type of insurance not offered by Japanese firms.  At the time, Aflac’s product was new to Japan, as no domestic firm sold cancer insurance.</p>
<p>But even with the right product, Aflac’s success didn’t come overnight.  As Amos points out, “You’ve got to be patient and figure out how to do things the Japanese way. “  Amos was patient.  He waited four years after filing an application with the Japanese government before being allowed to sell the first policy in 1975.</p>
<p>About the time that Aflac began offering its unique insurance in Japan, Japanese health officials released a report citing cancer as the major cause of death in Japan.  Cancer-related deaths—1 out of every 4.2 deaths—had moved ahead of both strokes and heart disease.  By hiring an expert <a title="English to Japanese Translation" href="http://www.themarketinganalysts.com/en/pages/japanese-translation-service-get-free-quote-on-language-translation-from-our-japanese-translator-team/">English to Japanese translation</a> service, Amos translated a great deal of literature and heavily promoted the finding from the Japanese report. His efforts proved to be a boon to Aflac’s sales.  While Amos expected to sell 15,000 policies the first year, the final tally came to 250,000.  Sales have grown each year since.  Aflac is now one of the 20-largest insurers in Japan.</p>

<p>But Amos didn’t stop at supplying an innovative product that consumers wanted and needed.  He also devised a unique way to market it – a plan especially suited to Japan’s features of lifetime employment and low employee turnover.  Instead of selling insurance the way most Japanese firms do—using part-time salespeople for door-to-door sales—Aflac formed an all-Japanese sales force, consisting mainly of retired workers, who market group policies directly to large corporations such as Nippon Steel and Hitachi.  Because premiums are paid through payroll deductions, American Family does not incur the costs of processing bills.</p>
<p>Aflac is looking to fill other Japanese market niches.  Paul Otake, president of the firm’s Japan branch, emphasizes: “We have to keep one hand on the future.”  Part of Japan’s future is the task of providing for an ever aging population.</p>

<p>Because language frequently differs in international markets, firms must take pains to ensure their communications are correctly translated and convey the intended meanings.  Some classic examples of embarrassing mistakes in <a title="Milwaukee Translation Services" href="http://www.themarketinganalysts.com/en/pages/milwaukee-translation-leader-milwaukee-translation-services-spanish-french-german-russian-portuguese-japanese-korean-chinese-translation-milwaukee-wisconsin/">language translation</a> include the following:</p>
