After surveying the different banks and their respective saving-plans, we eventually opted to proceed with the opening of an AUD bank account with Commonwealth Bank. This trip to Perth was intended for us to be present at my sister’s upcoming graduation ceremony on the 17th February 2009. This coincided with the last day (15th day) of the Chinese New Year “Chap Goh Meh” or “Yuan Xiao Jie” (元宵节). Some Chinese beliefs this to be the Valentine’s Day of the Lunar Calendar.
