If you have just gotten a new kitten, chances are it’s already litter box trained. This is because cats who have been raised by mothers who use litter boxes themselves have already been taught to use a box by their mothers. If the mother is trained, then the kitty, too, is going to be trained to use a box. If not, though, the kitten will need to be taught cat litter training.

If your kitten was raised by a mother in the wild or is an orphan, chances are you’re going to get a kitten that is not trained. Not to worry, however. By nature, cats are very clean creatures, and would prefer to have one special place to go to the bathroom. Therefore, even though your little guy (or girl) may “do his business” in indiscriminate locations throughout your house when you first get him, it’s very easy to train a kitten how to use a box if he does not know how to do so already.

Remember that if the kitten is very tiny (less than six weeks old) and/or has been orphaned, then it may not have had a mother to show it how to use litter properly. It’s very easy to show him how, though. First, get a box or container with low enough sides that even a very tiny kitten can climb in. One of the best containers to use is an old dishpan with one side cut out so that it’s only a couple of inches high. This is low enough that even the tiniest of kittens can climb in easily. The box must be easy to get into for your kitten to be able to use it. Immediately after you’ve set up the pan, put just a small amount of litter (no more than half an inch or so) on the bottom and put your cat in. Instinctively, even tiny kittens will usually like to scratch around even if they don’t exactly know what it’s used for.

Now, the next time you feed your kitten, immediately after he eats, turn on him over on his back (often, you can even do this in the palm of your hand with a very tiny kitten). Cover your index finger with a warm wet rag or washcloth and massage his lower belly very gently with it using downward stroking motions, going toward his tail. What you’re doing is stimulating him to eliminate as his mother would by licking him.

Immediately after you do this once or twice, turn him over on his feet and set him down in the box. He should feel the need to go to the bathroom almost immediately. He’ll eliminate and once he does this, take his front paw and very gently scoop litter over his waste. Very soon, he’ll get the idea and want to do this himself. As we said, cats are very clean creatures and instinctively bury their waste anyway, so he’ll get the idea very quickly. You may need to help the little fellow clean himself off at first until he understands how to do that himself, too, and this, again, is done with a warm wet rag or washcloth.

For the next few days up to two weeks, every time you feed your kitten, take him to the litter box immediately and set him down in it. After the first two or three times, you should not need to stimulate him by stroking his belly. If he does not cover his own waste, remember to use his own paw to cover it up for him until he gets the idea. Training should be very easy as long as you’re consistent.

Remember that your box always needs to be kept in the same location so that your kitten can always find it. Cats are very smart and remember things like that very easily, so if you keep it in the same location, he’ll know to go to the box as soon as he knows he has to go to the bathroom. Very soon, you’ll have a trained kitten with very little effort.

One final thing to remember is that because cats are so clean, their boxes must also be kept very clean. If your kitten has been trained and all of a sudden begins eliminating in various places in the house, it’s likely that it’s either a health problem or dirty litter box that’s making him do so. If the box is dirty, make sure you clean it and keep it that way. If the accidents throughout the house continue, take your cat to the vet immediately, as this could signify some serious problems such as a urinary tract infection or constipation.

With a little effort from you, cat litter training should be very easy for your new kitten.

Buying a Mastiff Puppy
by: Sharon Medforth

Yes I am a breeder from “Island West Mastiffs”. I have sold many mastiff pups over the years Many to great homes and a few, not so good . I have also bought and Imported mastiff pups . I too have been on the search for the right mastiff puppy.

By reading this you have started searching the right way . There is lots of information on the internet.

When buying a mastiff you will have to decide if you want a dog with a history of less health problems in the blood line or a dog from unknown health back ground.

In order to buy a pups with know family health history you must buy from a reputable breeder who knows their lines well, and not a back yard or inexperianced breeder.

If you buy a mastiff pup from a person who is not a known breeder, someone who has been not been breeding mastiffs for several years and dose not know the grandparents and great grandparents of the pup you are buying , you are risking health problems in you pup. Health problem that the breeder may not even know exist in the lines,

A breeder who can talk to you about all the ancestors in the pups pedigree is more apt to be aware of any health issues in the line and is more capable of avoiding genetic health problems .

I personally would not buy a pup from a breeder who has not done testing for hip and elbow dysplacia on the parents.

You should ask the breeder if they have a health guarantee on the pup “a written contract”.

Will the pup have its first vaccinations . Will the pup have a vet certified of health before you buy it. Will the pup be wormed .

Is the pup registered with the Canadian Kennel Club or American Kennel Club or main registry for that country.

Personally I would not by a pup who is registered with any other North American Registry. You will want to know what health problems the contract covers .What is the temperament of the parents and grand parents. Is the breeder willing to help you day or night if you have a problem with the pup. Warning signs are breeders who do not ask you questions like , why do you want a mastiff? Do you have a fenced yard?, Do you plan on breeding ? Will the puppy be along during the day? Have you had a large breed in the past ? How many dogs do you have right now? You want to buy from a breeder who is concerned what kind of home there pup is going to .Do not expect to get pick of the litter. If a breeder tells you the pup is definitely show quality and the pup is under 4 months of age be very skeptical . One thing I have learned as an experienced mastiff breeder is there is never any guarantee of what the pup will look like when it grows up.

On more then one occasion the smallest pup in my litter has grown to be the largest . I have seen pups with great rear ends at 8 weeks grow up to be cow hocked .If the breeder says the pup is a show PROSPECT, this means that the breeder thinks this is a good pup and may grow up to be show quality. If you are at the breeders home you want to note the condition and temperament of all the dogs .

Do not be to upset if the mother dose not want strangers around her pups. What you want to see if all the dogs look healthy . Are the pups kept in clean conditions .Are the pups getting contact with the people . Are the pups all fat and healthy looking .Do not be offended if the breeder makes you disinfect your hands or were a gown, or not were your street shoes around the puppy area . This is a breeder who cares for there pups and dose not want strangers to infect their litter with Paro or other diseases .

When picking a pup in person , think first of your own personality. If you are firm , bold , person you should pick a bold out going pup.If you are not assertive , and a quiet person , pick a quieter less dominant puppy. If you have children do not pick the rowdy, pup. But pick a calm pup who dose not scare easily. I hope this information is of some assistance

The first time I put my cat’s litter box in the bathroom, he was already looking into the toilet. So, I decided to start him at the sixth grade level of cat toilet training. . .whatever that means. It seemed to me that putting a plastic …

Have a great day!

Are you wondering when is the best time to start litter training your kitten, and how to go about doing it? Fortunately, cats and kittens are naturally fastidious creatures, and they have a natural tendency to use the litter box. Unfortunately, if they start doing it in the wrong spot, it can be difficult to get them to move their activities to the litter box.

Why? Because your kitten thinks that the place to pee is the place where she smells her urine. So, if the first place she went was someplace inconvenient like your pillow…

This is the reason you should always have a good way to completely get rid of cat urine smells. An enzymatic cleaner like Nature’s Miracle is very handy when you start litter training a kitten. Sprinkle cat litter over the soiled spot then wipe it up with damp tissue paper. After that, use the cleaner to thoroughly clean the area where your kitten did its business.

You do not want to immediately throw away the soiled litter. Place the cat poop/pee in your kitten’s litter box, then bring her to it. Do not rub her nose in the soiled litter. However, use her paws to gently dig at the litter to show her how to bury her poo. Just be patient and she will eventually get the idea.

The best cat litter to use at this stage is probably sand or a non-clumping clay cat litter. Some cat owners say they have good results with crystal litter, but some people are a bit nervous about using this type of litter for kittens.

When Do You Start Kitten Litter Training?

Generally, you can start to litter train your kitten once she is 4 to 6 weeks old. In most cases, her mother will teach her how to use the litter box. Your kitten might be a fast learner, and learn to use her litter box in just a week. Or she might take more than a month. This is one reason why you should not adopt a kitten less than 3 months old. Her litter training and socialization is not yet complete, and she will likely show other behavior problems in the future.

Of course, you do not always have a choice. For example, if you adopt an orphaned kitten, you may have to take the place of her mother. It helps a lot if you already have an adult cat who is already litter trained. Your kitten will tend to follow the older cat’s example.

If you bought your kitten from a breeder, you should ask for some of your kitten’s poop and soiled litter. Although it sounds gross, this can be really helpful in litter training a kitten. You also need to get the same kind of cat litter the breeder uses as well as the same kind of litter box. These are just some shortcuts to speed up the kitty litter training process.

Litter training your kitten need not be difficult. However, you do need to be loving and patient with your kitten. You also need to immediately and thoroughly clean up any accidents.

The outer ear, middle ear and the inner ear are the three parts that make up an ear. The one most likely to get an infection is the outer ear. It is reported that about 90% of infections happen in the outer ear.

Infections of the outer ear canal are common among dogs. Dog ear infections, or Otitis Externa, occur frequently in dogs because of the way their ears are designed. The horizontal and vertical components of a dog’s ear make it difficult for particles such as water or debris to drain out.

Signs that Your Dog Has an Ear Infection:

* Your dog is constantly and excessively shaking its head.

* There is yellow to brown discharge in your dog’s ears.

* Your dog’s ears have a yeast-like smell.

* There is redness and swelling on your dog’s infected ear.

Possible Causes of Dog Ear Infection:

Dog ear infections are caused by a variety of things. However, allergies are the typical cause of dog ear infections. If your dog has allergies or is highly susceptible to allergies, your dog is likely to have ear infections.

Water getting into the ears is another common cause of ear infections among dogs. So if your dog likes to swim, it is prone to ear infections. This is because of the way your dog’s ears are designed. When water gets inside your dog’s ears, the water can’t properly drain out. Thus, your dog’s ears become the perfect breeding ground for bacteria and yeast. This doesn’t mean, however, that you shouldn’t allow your dog to swim or play in the water anymore. It just means that you should thoroughly dry your dog’s ears after to prevent ear infections.

Cleaning Your Dog’s Infected Ear:

Regardless of how much you take care of your dog’s well being, your dog will most likely eventually have ear infections. When this happens, you need to know the correct way of cleaning your dog’s ear before putting medication.

1. Put a few drops of ear cleanser into your dog’s infected ear.

2. Next, gently rub or massage the ear to loosen any debris that is stuck in there.

3. Using a soft cloth, gauze or cotton ball, gently scrape and wipe the dirt out of the infected ear.

Medicating Your Dog’s Infected Ear:

After thoroughly cleaning your dog’s infected ear, apply medication according to the veterinarian’s instructions or the instructions found on the label.

Your dog’s veterinarian will prescribe the appropriate treatment based on what has caused your dog’s ear to become infected. For instance, if your dog’s ear infection was caused by a yeast infection, the veterinarian will prescribe an anti-fungal medication. If the infection was caused by a bacteria, your dog will be prescribed antibiotics.

Medications for dog ear infections are typically applied directly into the ears. However, if your dog has a severe ear infection, the veterinarian may prescribe oral treatment. The veterinarian may also clip the hair around your dog’s infected ear to allow more air to circulate in it. Surgery, for reconstructing the ear canal so that it drains better and easier, is the last recourse when topical and oral treatments have failed.

While all dogs are prone to ear infections, those belonging to breeds with large ears that flap over the outer ear canal as well as those breeds of dogs with very small ear canals are most susceptible. As a dog owner, it’s your responsibility to take care of your dog’s well being. Take proper care of your dog’s ears and learn how to detect the early signs of ear infections.

Ok so you might find the next few links interesting. These are from around the web, just random snippets that I’ve picked up in my reading, but I found some very cool information in them. You might too. Here goes…

Leak-Proof, Portable Potty Brings a Positive Start to Toilet Training

potty – to help toddlers, and their parents, enjoy a better start to toilet training. Made of high-quality, easy to clean, durable plastic, the unique lid, with its special leak-proof seal, means that My Carry Potty is ….. “You see, wire telegraph is a kind of a very, very long cat. You pull his tail in New York and his head is meowing in Los Angeles. Do you understand this? And radio operates exactly the same way: you send signals here, they receive them there. …

Some cat owners sometimes get too busy to clean the litter box. If you want to do away with this chore, consider investing time and patience in cat toilet training instead. Although some people may find the idea silly and impractical, …

Cat toilet training might seem like a pipe dream, but it’s entirely possible if you go about it in the right way. Cat toilet training, if successful, can totally eliminate the need to clean the litter box.

Have a great day!

It’s safe to say, my dog has me well trained. My “best friend” since she was six weeks old, my precious pup is now a fourteen year old peke-a-poo, missing teeth, missing vision, and missing manners. She growls at me whenever she wants MY dinner, she awakes me at three a.m. so I can give her a drink from my glass and free her from having to walk the ten steps to her water bowl, and she bites me whenever I accidentally touch her as she sleeps in our bed (90 percent of the bed, she has decided, belongs to her ten pound frame). Yes, it’s fair to say, when it comes to my dog, I am nothing if not obedient.

I’d like to say it hasn’t always been like this; I’d like to claim that I once had the upper hand and behaved like, well, the superior species. But, the truth is, I never did. Even before I brought her home, I found myself running around and getting things ready for her arrival. I bought her everything she needed, stopping just short of getting her a diamond studded collar from Tiffany’s, and I puppy proofed my house; I puppy proofed my house like a maniac: there was no way my dog was going to get hurt in my, oh I’m sorry, her, home.

This brings me to the topic of puppy proofing. As essential as it is, it’s not that hard to overlook; new dog owners might find themselves forgetting to make a safe environment as they become so wrapped up simply in loving their puppy. Still, puppy proofing your house helps you assure that you will have a puppy to love. So, before you bring home your new bundle of joy, try to engage in the following:

Secure your cords: Like moths to flames, puppies have been known to flock towards electrical cords, placing them in their mouths, and chewing away. Not only does this ruin your cord, but it can give your puppy quite a shock. To avoid this, keep cords out of the area where your puppy will be. If it’s impossible to keep cords out completely – if your puppy is in the TV room, it might be hard to not have a cord for your plasma television – place them out of your puppy’s reach: hang them from something high, tape them to the wall, or purchase a wire cover.

Guard your Balcony: All puppies have some Christopher Columbus in them: they like to explore. While this is often harmless, when a puppy starts to explore high areas, such as a deck or upstairs balcony, they run the risk of falling. Since you probably won’t be able to keep an eye on your puppy twenty four hours a day, buying a balcony guard is your best bet. A balcony guard allows your puppy to explore higher areas all while assuring that he or she won’t suddenly be thrown off course.

Latch Your Cabinets: If there’s one thing puppies know how to do, it’s get into things they shouldn’t. Cabinets, particularly ones that house kitchen or bathroom trash, are prime goals for puppy pursuing. If successful in their venture, puppies can find things in cabinets that could harm them: household cleaners, chicken bones, mouse traps, bleach. Simply putting latches on your cabinets can assure your puppy won’t be able to open the door on this danger.

Hang Your Plants: I remember my dog, as a puppy, had an affinity for getting into plants. Sometimes she would dig them up, sometimes she would pee on them, and sometimes – mistaking them for a salad bar – she would eat them. This, turns out, wasn’t a good idea: some plants are edible, but others can be poisonous. Your veterinarian can provide you with a list of plants that are harmful to pets, including Aloe Vera, tomato plants, rhododendron, English Ivy, and mistletoe. Instead of leaving these, or any plants, on ground level, hang them from the ceiling. Chances are your puppy won’t figure out how to use a ladder.

Puppy proofing your home can take time and money. But, it’s worth it all in the end. It helps us keep our best friend safe, which speaks to those of us who know that there is no such thing as “just a dog.”

Armorial bearings, or coats of arms, take us back to the glamour of the middle ages. In days of old, knights displayed heraldic devices on their horses’ caparisons, their servants’ liveries, and on their banners and shields. As war medals are awarded today, so coats’ of arms and other heraldic devices could be awarded to knights for their service in battle. But the primary role of coats’ of arms was identification in battle – the bright, vibrant colors and symbols identified the knight to his men, and his flying banner was a rallying point for them.

Heraldry refers to the study of coats of arms, and takes its name from the Heralds, who were the special ambassadors and messengers of feudal times. They were employed by all great lords, and by the king. Because Heralds traveled freely around the country, they were also the armorial officials. They granted armorial bearings. At tournaments, it was the Heralds’ job to check that no knight appeared in the tournament lists displaying the heraldic devices of another. In battle, it was the Heralds’ job, on both sides, to identify the living and the dead, and to declare the winner.

Many families today seek a connection with their ancestors through their coat of arms. However, obtaining an official right to display a true coat of arms – i.e. an armorial bearing that was granted to your ancestor – can be a long and tedious process. And for many people, they may not even have an ancestor who was granted an official coat of arms in the first place.

But that doesn’t mean you can’t have some fun designing your own coat of arms. Of course, it will never be recognized by any government or College of Heralds (the folks charged with keeping track of official armorial bearings), but it can be a fun family project nonetheless.

If you have an artistic bent, design your own coat of arms using art from one of the dozens of heraldic clipart libraries online. To make your fun family coat of arms look authentic, you’ll need two basic components: the field, and the charges (also known collectively as “the shield”)

Over time, the coat of arms has come to simply mean the shield we so often think of when imagining a classic coat of arms. The color that the shield is painted is called “the field.” Any item which was painted onto the field of the shield was called “the charge.” Therefore, if a shield has a lion painted on it, it’s said to be “charged with a lion.”

Common charges on shields included animals, mythical beasts, birds, plants, flowers, and inanimate objects. Charge your own coat of arms with any symbol which has meaning for you. The Knebworth House site at http://www.knebworthhouse.com/schools/coatofarms.htm has an excellent brief guide to designing a coat of arms, and even provides an outline of a coat of arms for you to print out.

If your cat is urinating outside of litter box then I really feel for you. It can be stressful to come home from a day at work and find that your cat has urinated again and the smell can be horrible too. I trained 2 of my own cats successfully to urinate in their litter box on my own so feel I can help you. Here are some tips for people who say my cat is urinating outside of the litter box.

Keep it super fresh – What you have to do is make sure the litter box is clean. Not just clean, really clean. Your cat will look at the floor or sofa or carpet and think “That always gets cleaned immediately when I urinate there”. If they look at the litter box and realise that it is not clean they will not go there, as simple as that. They are very clean animals that groom themselves and want to stay disease free just like we do and isn’t that what you want from your cat? replace the material and clean the actual box once per day with water for this period.

Reward it – If your cat does start urinating in the box then that is great! But, you are going to have to reward it so it knows exactly what to do. If you see it urinate inside the box again, go up to it and give it a treat near the litter box and it will start to understand you. If it urinates somewhere else in your house beckon it over and get the treats out and shake them and put them away again. This will teach the cat with pain and pleasure at the same time is really effective and will save you lots of time.

It is worth training your cat because in the long term you will save so much time and avoid the bad smells and embarrassment.

“I bet you’re searching the internet looking for the best methods to train your cat for free and I totally understand that. I was in your position and all the information seemed too much and information conflicted and it was pretty annoying at the time.

Finally I just thought I’d buy something and apply it regularly and it worked way beyond my expectations. Now I have 3 cats who I would not have recognised 3 months ago. If you’re interested in just getting this problem out of the way as quickly as possible.
How To Decide If You Need A Pet Car Seat Or Pet Carrier For My Dog Or Kitty

How to decide what type of Pet travel product is needed? Pet Car Seat or Pet Carrier?

Well that all depends on several factors. This article is to help you break it down to what will work best for you and your pet’s needs. We believe first and foremost keep things basic. Meaning don’t go out and get something you think you need and end up not using it. Instead, do the research on that particular product and go for it.

In any new adventure when traveling with your pet it is vital to be prepared and plan ahead especially if it’s a trip and not just every day outings. Here is additional information on basic Travel Tips, not covered in this article

Okay, the several key factors to think about:

1. What mode of transportation are you using?

CAR: There’s a wide variety of pet car seats available on line to choose from specifically designed for all types of cars & Suv’s. People like to use pet car seats who don’t want to leave their dogs or kitties behind or simply don’t have enough space in the car for pets during travel. The pet car seat is a secure area, while limiting them from wandering keeping him or her safe and to boot, keeping your car seat clean.

One of the most popular selling car seats is the Oversized Dog Car Seat that is just perfect booster seat for your small pets that love to ride in your car. It features a seat belt slot that adds more security to your pet. The Oversized Dog Car Seat is made of comfortable and soft foam covered in a Sherpa interior. You also can choose from different fabric designs and 2 sizes that will match your dog’s needs.

PLANE: Pet Carriers are mostly used for Airline Travel and/ or going to the vet’s (for the kitties out there!). For traveling by plane you need to make sure it is an AirlineApproved carriers. Just think about if you want to be able to carry your beloved pet or stroll them along, then mostly likely you will need a pet carrier. There are some that can be utilized for the car seat belt so they are secure while traveling in the car. Make sure though if you are traveling by air, the carrier is airline approved. Another great idea is a combination of carrier and stroller in one.
ÿ ÿ ÿ ÿ

2
1000
. Is this product for an every day occurrence, i.e., during errands/dog park/visiting friends ( you get the idea) – Or is it for a plan trip? For this you may want to consider a pet stroller if your dog is small. Also, don’t forget there are several types of Strollers designed for the back of the bicycle, as well as going for a hike, and you want to use a backpack for some or all of the time.

3. Once I get there do I need any other equipment? For example if you are traveling by plane and you have your pet carrier, will you be renting a car or using someone’s car and need a pet car seat? This may be on of those circumstances where you may need both. Again, it depends on your pet, whether cat or a dog and her/his size.

Truly, you know your pet or pets and what they will be happy with. If this is the first time they will be using a pet car seat, carrier or stroller order one well in advance so you know and they know what it’s going to be like. Make sure you know what the return policy is on the product(s) you decide on.

Stay Balanced, Happy and Safe during any outings with your beloved dog and or cat!

Owning a toilet trained cat can be very rewarding. Attention and consistent effort will be greatly needed at the toilet training stage. Just be patient always. I have owned cats all my life. Training a cat to behave can be difficult. …

Litter Kwitter – Cat Toilet Training System

The original world famous cat toilet training system. You can teach your cat to use the toilet in 3-easy steps. No more messing around with cat litter, a littermaid, scoopfree litter boxes or other automatic cleaning litter boxes – say …

Hope you enjoy the read as much as I did and please if you have something to say, use the comments form below to let everyone know your thoughts.

Have a great day!

Initially you will need to buy a litter tray. This needs to be of a size in which the cat can comfortably turn around. It should be put in a room in the house which is easy for the cat to access as well as being private and out of the way. You should not place the tray in the same room as which the cat sleeps or eats; they are clean animals just like we are. Another consideration is that the litter tray may produce odours.

It is best to let them use the litter tray for a number of weeks before you start to think of training them to use the toilet. It is possible to train any cat to use a household toilet if you are determined. It is far easier to do this if you have more than one bathroom or toilet in your home.

Once they are comfortable using the litter tray you can move it towards the bathroom, if you are in a smaller property then you can do it in one go. You then need to let the cat get use to the new location, you may need to guide it at first. After another week or so you can start to raise the height of the tray. This is best done in stages until it is at the same level as the toilet seat. The tray should then be placed next to the toilet.

The next part of the training involves making your cat switch from the tray to the toilet. For this to be successful you will need to install a litter pan under the actual toilet seat. Into this needs to be placed the same litter as is in the tray. If you do not need to use this bathroom yourself then you can leave both the tray and pan together for a number of days before removing the litter tray or box.

There is one last step in the process of toilet training your cat. You will have to remove the litter pan from under the toilet seat. Your cat may at first feel scared by having to crouch over the precipice so you may have to give them extra support. The age of the cat can play a factor in how easy they are to toilet train. A kitten may be too small to fit on a toilet seat correctly. Young cats are usually the quickest to take to it.

Remember that cats are territorial, they are likely to only use that one toilet in your home and not every bathroom that you have.

Cat owners, have you ever dreaded about litter training a cat? I can relate. When I got my first cat, Buddy, all I pictured was the mess that she might leave all over the house and how I would have to clean it up.

Here’s the good news. Don’t panic, it does take patience but if you use proper training, your cat will learn to do his business where he is supposed to and not anywhere else in your home.

So, what are the 3 proven steps to litter training a cat?

They include:

1. Use clumping litter – There are many different types of cat litter available for sale. I suggest clumping litter because after your cat uses his box, the litter will ball up or clump with the cats waste making it easier for you to scoop up and dispose of along with the smell.

2. Show your cat where the litter box is located – This is an important part to litter training a cat. You want to make sure your cat knows where to go. You can even place your cat inside the box to make him feel welcome.

3. Keep the litter box clean daily – No cat likes to do his business in a dirty litter box. In fact, you might find that poor litter box maintenance will cause the cat to find a better spot to go. A better spot for the cat, not for you. Remove waste daily and change the entire litter box weekly.

Make sure you follow these steps other wise you better prepare yourself for the mess and smell.

Cats are very clean, yet not all cats can be trained. If you’re having trouble kitten training, and you run into some cat urine just add vinegar or lemon juice to it. To train your cat to use the toilet simply put a box leading up to …

Finding the ability to train your cat to use the house toilet has been an on going concept for decades. Over the last several years, such training has become popular. Most people would like to have the smell of that stinky cat litter …

Cat Toilet Training

If you have a spare bathroom, you could switch off the toilet water while you toilet train your cat. As the cat’s training improves, the water can be turned back on. When the cat becomes accustomed to the new insert, the next step is to …

If you love and own felines, learning how to house train cat is near enough essential. You don’t want your cute pet leaving surprises for you all over your home. To train your cat will take a lot of patience and determination, but it can be achieved.

The first thing that you’ll need to do is get a litter tray or box. This needs to be of a size in which your cat or kitten can move around in without too much of a problem, and also easily get in and out of. In the bottom of the box you will need to place a few couple of inches of cat litter. There are many different litter products available from your local store. Some owners choose wood shavings, others blue crystals. The priority is that it should be a substance that is easy to clean and also hides odors.

Once you are happy with the litter box you need to find a location to put it. This should be somewhere quiet that doesn’t get disturbed. Don’t place the litter box in the same room as the cat food or the cat’s bed – would you do your business in the same room that you eat or sleep? Neither would a cat!

If your cat or kitten has been relieving itself in various places of your home it is essential to give these areas a thorough clean as cats have a strong ability to sense scent and may continuously use that location as a toilet, also it may encourage other cats or kittens to do the same.

Next comes the difficult part. You need to get your cat to use the litter box. This is harder with a kitten. You should physically place your cat into the box, and make it do some strokes with its paws in the litter. Then you can lock the cat in the room for an hour or more. Hopefully they would’ve taken the hint and used the box in the right manner.

It is important to empty the litter box once it is dirty. Cats are very clean animals and will not use a litter box that smells bad and hasn’t been emptied in days.

If they have done their feces away from the box you can move this to were it needs to go, then the cat will gradually realise. You may have to repeat this process a number of times over the course of a week before the cat fully understands.

Hollywood’s Top 5 Restaurants: Where Glamour Meets Good Cooking

Hollywood’s long legacy of glitz, glamour, and demanding actresses means it’s always been at the forefront of the country’s culinary scene. You can visit the tiny café where Sophia Loren used to come for Italian home cooking or follow in the dining footsteps of more modern stars like Jake Gyllenhaal and Reese Witherspoon. Away from the surf-town atmosphere, Hollywood serves more formal diners looking for culinary treats. And, with a huge variety of ethnic food to match Los Angeles’ diverse population, Hollywood’s restaurants are some of the best in the country.

Hungry Cat

Hungry Cat serves up sassy cocktails and serious seafood. Hollywood regulars love to belly up to the bar and order off the restaurant’s raw menu, including oysters, crab, and shrimp (no cooking necessary). The Hungry Cat also specializes in unique cocktails and small-producer wines that pair well with prix fixe lunch and dinner options.
This airy, open space is a favorite brunch spot for folks returning from a morning at the Hollywood Farmer’s Market.

Roscoe’s House of Chicken ‘n Waffles

For a truly Southern cooking experience in the heart of Hollywood, check out Roscoe’s. This moderately priced café sees customers like Snoop Dogg and Oprah Winfrey stopping in for late night snacks (they’re open until 4am). In addition to classic chicken and waffle combos, customers also keep coming back for the macaroni and cheese.
A Los Angeles institution, Roscoe’s bucks modern culinary trends and serves up comfort food with style.

Magnolia

Chic, candlelit décor provides an unusual backdrop for a menu full of American classics. BLTs pair with Cobb salads and strip steaks come topped with French fries. But the cooking is nothing to laugh at—customers return for the Magnolia Burger and the elegant ambience.
Magnolia is a classic culinary favorite for many Los Angeles entertainment-seekers, in easy walking distance of both cinemas and theaters.

Osteria Mozza

This long-awaited nouveau Italian hot spot might require a reservation made well in advance, but it’s well worth it to enjoy Hollywood-style cooking from famed chefs Nancy Silverton, Joseph Bastianich, and Mario Batali. Customers savor culinary de
1000
lights from the Mozzarella Bar (with 15 different cheese options) as well as a huge pasta and entrée menu.
This Hollywood favorite also offers periodic wine tasting dinners and private dining in the Primo Ministri room.

Providence

Culinary accolades have been heaped on this posh Hollywood spot from the likes of Gourmet Magazine and the James Beard Foundation. Indeed, the totally upscale cooking available at Providence is a mix of pure seafood and international flavors, and for diners interested the restaurants’ sources, the menu tells you exactly where in the world your entrée is coming from.
Los Angeles diners can expect simple decadence at Providence, which, for a few extra dollars, is worth the culinary pleasure.

Horse Training: Prevention and Cure
by: Andy Curry

If you own a horse that has a bad
habit like biting, kicking, shying, bolting,
halter pulling, etc. – it’s a good idea to
look at how that happened.

That’s an important horse training
principle if you’re going to be a horse trainer
and learn to train a horse.

Often, horse owners allow it to happen
because, frankly, they honestly didn’t know any
better.

Imagine this.

You’re loading a horse into a trailer
and just as you get 3 feet from it he starts
pulling back.

Quickly, the horse wins the tug of
war.

So you walk him away from the trailer
in a small circle and try it again.

But this time he backs away from the
trailer sooner…say…6 feet from it.

So, you walk him away from the trailer
in another small circle and try it yet again.

This time the horse pulls back 10 feet
from the trailer.

Then you ask yourself, “Why is he doing
this – and why is it getting worse?”

This happened to me years ago when I
first trying to get my horse into a trailer.

When I let her win she saw she could
do as she pleased – and fairly quickly a bad
habit started. And that was because my horse
knew she could resist.

How did she know she could resist?
Because she experienced it.

Well, I later learned how to get horses
in a trailer. But when I went to get the resis-
tant horse in the trailer it took a lot longer
because she knew she could resist me from before.

One of the lessons I learned from this
is this:

If you want your horse to do (or not do)
something make sure you are in a position to
make it happen. If you’re not, don’t try to
force it because if your horse sees you can’t
make him do it…he’ll use that critical piece
of experience and resist you even harder the next
time you attempt it.

Thus, if you’re teaching Mr. Horse
something and you’re not in a position to
make him do it (or make him stop doing it)
then recognize that immediately and don’t
try to force it.

I get a TON of questions about horses
being barn sour. People say, “No matter what
I do he goes back to the barn.”

Little do these horse owners know they
taught their horse to resist them.

Many just get off their horse, put away
the saddle, and let the horse win.

Never mind the cure for barnsourness.
What about preventing it from happening in the
first place.

It starts with getting a horse’s con-
fidence and obedience mixed with solid training.

The horse should be obedient to do what
one asks. When you wanna ride out from the
barn the horse should obediently do it. This
obedience comes from your ground work and working
with the horse.

But even an obedient and willing horse
may attempt to go back to the barn – even though
he’s not confirmed in the habit.

THAT! you can prevent pretty eaisly. But
if a horse habitually wins, then you have to make
a cure.

Thus, the lesson is prevention. It’s a
lot easier than curing.

If you want to learn more about this, I
urge you go to http://www.SuperStarsOfHorseTraining.com

To begin with you are going to have to get your new pet to use a litter tray. This should be a comfortable size for them so that they can turn around easily. You need to buy a litter product that absorbs the smell and is easy to clean. The tray needs to be put in an area of the house which is not difficult for the cat to reach as well as being out of the way and private. Do not keep it in the same location as the cat’s food or where they sleep, also keep in mind the smells it may give off.

Once they are familiar with using the litter tray you can start to train them to use the actual toilet. This can take a fair degree of effort but is achievable with almost any cat. It is much easier done if you have a spare toilet which is designated for the cat to use.

The first step is to move the litter tray that they use closer or in to the bathroom. For some cats you may have to move it in stages. Once it is in the bathroom just let your cat get accustomed to its new setting for a number of days. After some time you can start to raise the level, this can be done using old newspaper or telephone boxes. Don’t raise it too high too quickly. You can now reposition it at its new height but next to the toilet.

The next stage is a big jump for your cat so it may take some extra patience. You need to buy a litter pan which fits under the toilet seat. This should be filled with the exact litter as is in the tray. It may help to leave both the tray and the pan up for a few days and then take away the litter tray.

The final part of the training may take some coaxing from you and also a careful check to see that the cat is using the toilet as expected. You need to remove the pan from under the toilet seat. Hopefully your cat will feel comfortable crouching on the seat without the safety of the pan beneath. It is possible to train a cat of any age to use a toilet but the younger they are the easier it will be. Remember that if you have a kitten it may be too small to safely use a toilet.

Just because a cat will use one toilet in your house does not necessarily mean they will be comfortable with a different bathroom.

Ok so 3 more posts today that I’ve dug up – I’m an information JUNKIE on this stuff lately. Give em a browse and let me know what ya reckon. They’re just from a few different sites I’ve been surfing lately that are generally good for information like this…

I think my cat’s toilet training herself!

So my cat has for the last several years has had a obsession with the toilet. It started off whenever I was on it, she wanted to be in with me, when I was finished she would go on to her back legs to watch it flush. …

I was just wondering if anyone has ever tried it? What would some disadvantages be? Does it help with the smell at all? I have 2 4mo old kittens and I was wondering if it might be worth trying with them? They have excellent litter box …

Names For A Little Dog

The Guinness Book of World Records includes the names of the littlest dog in the world. We will also show the names that fit the little stature. Here are the names with breed, meaning, origin, and gender.

The little dog names on record include Big Boss, Danka Kordak Slovakia, Ducky, Sylvia, Tiny Pinocchio, and Whitney. The breeds are mostly Chihuahua and Yorkshire Terrier. Chihuahua is probably the smallest breed in the world. Chihuahua originally came from the state of Mexico named Chihuahua.

The Yorkshire Terrier is one of the small breed. It originally came from Yorkshire in England. The fur grows long and silky. And, the black, tan, and blue fur usually blends and coats the breed.

Big Boss is a pretty Yorkshire Terrier. It only grew 4.7 inches or 11.94 centimeters. The Guinness Book of Records registered Big Boss in 2002, because Big Boss is the smallest dog in 2002. The name is ironic as it is the smallest dog in 2002. Big in the name means large or huge, while the Boss means superior, manager, ruler, or chief.

Danka Kordak Slovakia which is a tan, fluffy, cute, and long-haired Chihuahua took the smallest dog title from 2004 to 2007. The height measured as 5.4 inches, while the length measured as 7.4 inches. Danka Kordak Slovakia is a female dog name. Obviously, Danka Kordak is from Slovakia. It is a country in Central Europe. Danka means God is my judge in Hebrew. However, the name is more popular in Czech and Polish.

Ducky which is a short-haired Chihuahua took the smallest dog title from Danka Kordak Slovakia in 2007. Ducky lives in Charleston, Massachusetts. And, Lisa Messier owns Ducky. She grew 4.9 inches in height and 1.4 pounds in weight. The face of Ducky resembles a young duck. That is probably how Ducky got the name.

Sylvia was the smallest dog in history. Sylvia stood only 2.5 inches in height, 3.5 inches in length, and 4 ounces in weight. Sadly, she died in 1945. Also, Sylvia comes from the match-box sized Yorkshire Terrier breed. And, Sylvia is a Latin dog name which means forest or woods.

Tiny Pinocchio is another Yorkshire Terrier. However, she is unusually tiny for the breed. Tiny Pinocchio measures 2.75 inches tall and 8 inches long. Often, she wears a red ribbon beside the ear. When guests come over her house, she goes in a decorative bird cage. This is to avoid being step on by guests. The full dog na
1000
me is Tiny Pinocchio, but the nick name is Noki. Noki is short for Pinocchio. Both names are actually cute dog names.

Whitney is another white Yorkshire Terrier. She took over the smallest dog title from Big Boss in 2002. And, she measured 3 inches tall and 9.5 inches long. The proud owners of Whitney are Christopher and Patricia Sheridan. The couple lives in England. Whitney is a female and English name which means White Island.

Another option is to use dog names that mean small. For example, Pablo is a Latin name. It means small. Paula, Paulette, Pauline, and Paulina are female variants of Pablo, while Paul and Paulo are male variants of Pablo.

And, another option is to use a dog name that relates to little. Marcel, Marcela, Marcello, Marcellus, and Marcelo are dog names meaning little Marcus. Another, Ryan and Ryann are names meaning little king.

There is plenty more dog names that means small or relates to little. We can search in books or websites for any name that means or relates to little. As you will see, many names are quite cute, pretty, and good.
