Award-winning American pop star Chris Brown, 26, has been barred from leaving the Philippines because of a contract dispute gone wrong, the official Philippines News Agency reported Wednesday.
Brown was prevented from leaving the country just hours before he was supposed to arrive in Hong Kong to perform at another concert.

According to the agency, an order had been issued by the Philippine Department of Justice on Tuesday night to stop Brown from leaving the country.

He performed that night as originally planned, but the order was put in place in an attempt to get Brown to pay back money he was accused of owing to a religious group in the country for not showing up to a performance in 2014.

Reports showed the chart-topping singer said he couldn’t attend the performance because he had lost his passport.

Brown has had tons of success in his career, including one Grammy and five Billboard Music Awards, but he has also had his fair share of trouble.

Most notably, in 2009 Brown assaulted Rihanna, then his girlfriend, inside a rented Lamborghini on the day before the Grammy Awards. Brown pleaded guilty later that year to one felony assault count. He was put on five years of probation and ordered to serve 180 days of labor-oriented service and take a year-long class on domestic violence.

In 2012, the media caught wind of an altercation between Brown and hip-hop artist Drake at a nightclub.

The following year Brown again found trouble as he was accused of committing a hit-and-run in Los Angeles; a woman said he shoved her at a nightclub in Anaheim, leading to an assault-and-battery claim; and he was accused of felony assault outside a hotel in Washington.

Brown entered rehab in 2o13, but he was removed from the facility after smashing in his mother’s car window during a family session, according to his probation officer. He returned to rehab but left in 2014.

Brown had a concert scheduled for later this week in Indonesia, but according to his Twitter account it was canceled because of “safety concerns.”

Just weeks after becoming a mom, Kelly Rowland is mourning the loss of her own.
The 33-year-old former Destiny’s Child member confirmed that Doris Rowland Garrison died Tuesday in Atlanta at the age of 66.

“It is with deep sadness that I announce the passing of my mother,” Rowland said in a statement to The Insider With Yahoo. “She was an incredible soul who made countless sacrifices so that I could become the woman — and now mother — I am today. We humbly appreciate all the love and support and only ask for privacy during this difficult time.”

Those sacrifices include allowing a young Rowland to move in with Beyoncé Knowles and her family as the girls were carving out a path to stardom.

“When I was 9, my mom was working as a live-in nanny,” Rowland explained to Interview magazine in 2001. “We were rehearsing every day and, with my mom’s schedule, she couldn’t really take me back and forth to all the rehearsals. So in order to make it work, my mom asked Tina [Knowles], ‘Could Kelly stay with you for the summer?’ And the summer turned into [11 years]. But it was like a big ol’ happy family because my mom came over every night to kiss me good night.”

She continued, “I say I have three parents — Tina and Mathew [Beyoncé’s father], and my mom — three wise people to help me.”

Rowland endures the loss of her mother at a time in her life when she’s been on top of the world. After tying the knot with her “best friend” Tim Weatherspoon in May in Costa Rica, the couple welcomed their first child, son Titan Jewell Weatherspoon, on Nov. 4.

Bronx rapper Remy Ma was released from a New York prison after serving a six-year sentence for assault, Remy….real name, Reminisce Smith — was convicted of intentional assault back in 2008 for shooting Makeda Barnes Joseph in a dispute over $3,000, but was able to have her initial sentence of eight years scaled back. Upon her release from the Bedford Hills Correctional Facility for Women, the former Terror Squad MC was greeted by her husband, Papoose, as well as her manager and other members of her entourage.

Smith was just 26 when she was found guilty of assaulting Joseph. As The New York Times reported, the shooting capped off a string of betrayals, with Smith claiming that members of her entourage exploited her fame for their own gain. The incident with Joseph, specifically, occurred at a nightclub after Smith asked her friend to hold her purse; when she took it back, $3,000 in cash was missing. A struggle ensued, during which Smith claimed she accidentally shot Joseph in the abdomen.

Last week, Smith called into New York City radio station Power 105 where she spoke with Angie Martinez about her impending release, patching up her relationship with Terror Squad honcho Fat Joe and discussing the rhymes she’s been working on while locked up. During her sentence, the rapper also earned an associate degree in sociology. While Smith said that she’s had a number of labels reach out to her, she wanted to come home before signing any contracts. Still, she told Martinez: “It’s not gonna be fair — my pen game is crazy.”

Smith also reiterated her admiration for Nicki Minaj, despite the fact that the two have had their minor differences in the past: “Nick has always been a supporter and vice versa,” she said. “I like what she does. She’s done wonderful things for females, but I just wish there was more of them. I don’t know what they’re doing; they’re letting these guys take over.”

The rapper, an enormous sports fan who will host the ESPY Awards next Wednesday, was asked during a media conference call on Friday about his pal James’ stunning decision to come home to Ohio.

Drake took the opportunity to address accusations that he’s a “bandwagon” fan whose loyalties always change.

“Well, first of all, I’d like to say that despite what everyone on the Internet thinks, I do not team jump,” he’s quoted as telling a Complex reporter. “In the past I’ve always supported the player and not the institution — unless we’re talking about the Kentucky Wildcats and the Toronto Raptors; I will never stray from them.”

He explains, “But whether it comes to soccer or football or basketball, I have a lot of friends that play for a lot of teams. I’m not team jumping. I’m a supportive friend.”

So… will he be a Cavaliers fan now?

“Of course, I’m gonna go watch games in Cleveland,” says Drake. “If not for LeBron — who I said is a brother to me, we’ve got three kids from Toronto on [the Cavaliers], plus [Johnny] Manziel [recently drafted by the Cleveland Browns] who is part of our family and our brother.”

He adds, “I definitely have to look into some real estate in Cleveland and spend some months of the year out there. Like I said, my teams will always forever be who they are but I will support the group who has shifted to Cleveland.”

James Ennis, who was acquired by the HEAT in a draft night trade during the 2013 NBA Draft, spent last season with the Perth Wildcats of the Australian Basketball League appearing in 33 games (32 starts) and averaged 21.2 points, 7.2 rebounds, 2.1 assists, 1.42 steals and 31.7 minutes while shooting 46.6 percent from the field, 35.5 percent from three-point range and 77 percent from the foul line. He helped the team win the 2014 Australian Basketball League Championship and capped the season finishing third in MVP voting while being named Australiabasket.com’s All-Australian NBL Player of the Year, Forward of the Year, Import Player of the Year, First Team and All-Imports Team. Additionally, after his stint in Australia, Ennis appeared in 12 games (all starts) with Piratas de Quebradillas of the Puerto Rican National Superior Basketball League and averaged 16.6 points, 8.3 rebounds, 2.5 assists, 1.75 steals, 1.00 blocks and 33.6 minutes while shooting 47 percent from the field and 76.2 percent from the foul line.

This summer, Ennis has appeared in six Summer League games with the HEAT (all starts) and averaged 15.5 points, 5.0 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.33 steals while shooting 51.7 percent from the field, 48.1 percent from three-point range and 80 percent from the foul line. He posted a 29-point, four-rebound, two-assist game in 25:33 minutes of action while shooting 10-of-12 from the field, 7-of-8 from three-point range and a perfect 2-of-2 from the foul line in a 110-91 win against the Brooklyn Nets on July 6. Dwyane Wade will stay with the Miami Heat to aid the club he helped to three NBA titles in rebuilding after the loss of superstar LeBron James, he said on Tuesday.

The move will reunite Wade with team-mate Chris Bosh, who was wooed by the Houston Rockets among others but chose to stay with the Heat for a reported five-year deal worth $118 million.

Filling the small forward spot vacated by four-time NBA Most Valuable Player James will be Britain’s Luol Deng, the long-time Chicago Bulls playmaker who was traded to Cleveland in January and who became a free agent earlier this month.

Deng reportedly inked a two-year deal worth $20 million to join the Heat, who have also reportedly agreed terms with Mario Chalmers, Danny Granger, Chris Andersen and Josh McRoberts.

Wade struggled with knee injuries last season but averaged 19 points, 4.7 assists and 4.5 rebounds over 54 games, connecting on 55 percent of his shots, a career-best accuracy rate.

By opting out of his prior contract, Wade will likely earn less money next season but also is likely to ensure greater salary in future years.

The Heat have reached the NBA Finals for the past four seasons since James joined the club in 2010, losing the 2011 and 2014 finals while winning crowns in 2012 and 2013.

Wade also joined retired star big man Shaquille O’Neal in winning an NBA title with the Heat in 2006.

Nelson Mandela dies at 95

Nelson Mandela, who guided South Africa from the shackles of apartheid to multi-racial democracy and became an international icon of peace and reconciliation, died Thursday at age 95.

Imprisoned for nearly three decades for his fight against white minority rule, Mandela emerged determined to use his prestige and charisma to bring down apartheid while avoiding a civil war.

“The time for the healing of the wounds has come. The moment to bridge the chasms that divide us has come,” Mandela said in his acceptance speech on becoming South Africa’s first black president in 1994.

“We have, at last, achieved our political emancipation.”

President Barack Obama hailed Mandela as a leader who left his country with a legacy of freedom and peace with the world.

“He achieved more than could be expected of any man,” Obama said at the White House shortly after the announcement of Mandela’s death.

“Today he’s gone home, and we’ve lost one of the most influential, courageous and profoundly good human beings that any of us will share time with on this earth,” Obama said.

Mandela’s greatest accomplishment was to unify South Africa and push for reconciliation between blacks and whites in the post-apartheid era, F.W. de Klerk, the country’s last white president, said on Thursday.

“He was a great unifier and a very, very special man in this regard beyond everything else he did. This emphasis on reconciliation was his biggest legacy,” de Klerk, 77, said in an interview with CNN after the announcement of Mandela’s death at age 95.

De Klerk, a white Afrikaner who released Mandela from prison in 1990 and then negotiated the end of apartheid, said Mandela was a humane man who was able to understand and soothe the fears of South Africa’s white minority in the transition to democracy.

De Klerk said he felt a connection to the African National Congress leader during their first meeting in 1989, shortly after de Klerk had taken over as leader of South Africa’s apartheid government.

In 1993, Mandela was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize, an honour he shared with de Klerk.

Mandela went on to play a prominent role on the world stage as an advocate of human dignity in the face of challenges ranging from political repression to AIDS.

He formally left public life in June 2004 before his 86th birthday, telling his adoring countrymen: “Don’t call me. I’ll call you”. But he remained one of the world’s most revered public figures, combining celebrity sparkle with an unwavering message of freedom, respect and human rights.

Whether defending himself at his own treason trial in 1963 or addressing world leaders years later as a greying elder statesman, he radiated an image of moral rectitude expressed in measured tones, often leavened by a mischievous humour.

“He is at the epicentre of our time, ours in South Africa, and yours, wherever you are,” Nadine Gordimer, the South African writer and Nobel Laureate for Literature, once remarked.

Mandela’s years behind bars made him the world’s most celebrated political prisoner and a leader of mythic stature for millions of black South Africans and other oppressed people far beyond his country’s borders.

Charged with capital offences in the 1963 Rivonia Trial, his statement from the dock was his political testimony.

“During my lifetime I have dedicated myself to this struggle of the African people. I have fought against white domination, and I have fought against black domination.

“I have cherished the ideal of a democratic and free society in which all persons live together in harmony and with equal opportunities,” he told the court.

“It is an ideal I hope to live for and to achieve. But if needs be, it is an ideal for which I am prepared to die.”

DESTINED TO LEAD

Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela was born on July 18, 1918, destined to lead as the son of the chief councillor to the paramount chief of the Thembu people in Transkei.

He chose to devote his life to the fight against white domination. He studied at Fort Hare University, an elite black college, but left in 1940 short of completing his studies and became involved with the African National Congress (ANC), founding its Youth League in 1944 with Oliver Tambo and Walter Sisulu.

Mandela worked as a law clerk then became a lawyer who ran one of the few practices that served blacks.

In 1952 he and others were charged for violating the Suppression of Communism Act but their nine-month sentence was suspended for two years.

Mandela was among the first to advocate armed resistance to apartheid, going underground in 1961 to form the ANC’s armed wing, Umkhonto weSizwe, or ‘Spear of the Nation’ in Zulu.

He left South Africa and travelled the continent and Europe, studying guerrilla warfare and building support for the ANC.

After his return in 1962, Mandela was arrested and sentenced to five years for incitement and illegally leaving the country. While serving that sentence, he was charged with sabotage and plotting to overthrow the government along with other anti-apartheid leaders in the Rivonia Trial.

Branded a terrorist by his enemies, Mandela was sentenced to life imprisonment in 1964, isolated from millions of his countrymen as they suffered oppression, violence and forced resettlement under the apartheid regime of racial segregation.

He was incarcerated on Robben Island, a penal colony off Cape Town, where he would spend the next 18 years before being moved to mainland prisons.

He was behind bars when an uprising broke out in the huge township of Soweto in 1976 and when others erupted in violence in the 1980s. But when the regime realised it was time to negotiate, it was Mandela to whom it turned.

In his later years in prison, he met President P.W. Botha and his successor de Klerk.

When he was released on Feb. 11, 1990, walking away from the Victor Verster prison hand-in-hand with his wife Winnie, the event was watched live by television viewers across the world.

“As I finally walked through those gates … I felt even at the age of 71 that my life was beginning anew. My 10,000 days of imprisonment were at last over,” Mandela wrote of that day.

ELECTIONS AND RECONCILATION

In the next four years, thousands of people died in political violence. Most were blacks killed in fighting between ANC supporters and Zulus loyal to Mangosuthu Buthelezi’s Inkatha Freedom Party, although right-wing whites also staged violent actions to upset the moves towards democracy.

Mandela prevented a racial explosion after the murder of popular Communist Party leader Chris Hani by a white assassin in 1993, appealing for calm in a national television address. That same year, he and de Klerk were jointly awarded the Nobel Peace Prize.

Talks between the ANC and the government began in 1991, leading to South Africa’s first all-race elections on April 27, 1994.

The run-up to the vote was marred by fighting, including gun battles in Johannesburg townships and virtual war in the Zulu stronghold of KwaZulu Natal.

But Mandela campaigned across the country, enthralling adoring crowds of blacks and wooing whites with assurances that there was a place for them in the new South Africa.

The election result was never in doubt and his inauguration in Pretoria on May 10, 1994, was a celebration of a peoples’ freedom.

Mandela made reconciliation the theme of his presidency. He took tea with his former jailers and won over many whites when he donned the jersey of South Africa’s national rugby team – once a symbol of white supremacy – at the final of the World Cup in 1995 at Johannesburg’s Ellis Park stadium.

The hallmark of Mandela’s mission was the Truth and Reconciliation Commission which investigated apartheid crimes on both sides and tried to heal the wounds. It also provided a model for other countries torn by civil strife.

In 1999, Mandela, often criticised for having a woolly grasp of economics, handed over to younger leaders – a voluntary departure from power cited as an example to long-ruling African leaders.

A restful retirement was not on the cards as Mandela shifted his energies to fighting South Africa’s AIDS crisis.

He spoke against the stigma surrounding the infection, while successor Thabo Mbeki was accused of failing to comprehend the extent of the crisis.

The fight became personal in early 2005 when Mandela lost his only surviving son to the disease.

But the stress of his long struggle contributed to the break-up of his marriage to equally fierce anti-apartheid campaigner Winnie.

The country shared the pain of their divorce in 1996 before watching his courtship of Graca Machel, widow of Mozambican President Samora Machel, whom he married on his 80th birthday in 1998.

Friends adored “Madiba”, the clan name by which he is known. People lauded his humanity, kindness, attention and dignity.

Unable to shake the habits of prison, Mandela rose daily between 4 a.m. and 5 a.m. to exercise and read. He drank little and was a fervent anti-smoker.

An amateur boxer in his younger days, Mandela often said the discipline and tactics drawn from training helped him to endure prison and the political battles after his release.

RAINBOW NATION

But prison and old age took their toll on his health.

Mandela was treated in the 1980s for tuberculosis and later required an operation to repair damage to his eyes as well as treatment for prostate cancer in 2001. His spirit, however, remained strong.

“If cancer wins I will still be the better winner,” he told reporters in September of that year. “When I go to the next world, the first thing I will do is look for an ANC office to renew my membership.”

Most South Africans are proud of their post-apartheid multi-racial ‘Rainbow Nation’.

But Mandela’s legacy of tolerance and reconciliation has been threatened in recent years by squabbling between factions in the ANC and social tensions in a country that, despite its political liberation, still suffers great inequalities.

Mandela’s last major appearance on the global stage came in 2010 when he donned a fur cap in the South African winter and rode on a golf cart, waving to an exuberant crowd of 90,000 at the soccer World Cup final, one of the biggest events in the country’s post-apartheid history.

“I leave it to the public to decide how they should remember me,” he said on South African television before his retirement.

Actor Paul Walker, who shot to fame as star of the high-octane street racing franchise “Fast & Furious,” died Saturday in a car crash in Southern California. He was 40.
Walker’s publicist Ame van Iden confirmed his death, but said she could not elaborate beyond statements posted on Walker’s official Twitter and Facebook accounts.
Walker was a passenger in a friend’s 2005 Porsche Carrera GT and both were attending a charity event for his organization, Reach Out Worldwide, in the community of Valencia in Santa Clarita, about 30 miles north of Hollywood.
The website for the charity said the Saturday event was intended to benefit victims of Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines.
Speed was a factor in the crash, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Office said.
The wreck took place about 3:30 p.m. (6:30 p.m. ET), about 300 yards from the office park where the event was held. The speed limit there is 45 mph.

Deputies arrived at the scene to find a vehicle on fire, the sheriff’s department said in a statement.
Once fire crews put the flames out, they found two occupants, both of whom were pronounced dead at the scene.
Saturday evening, all that remained was the burnt mangled metal of the red car and a light pole that had been knocked down.

Walker’s career began on the small screen, first with a commercial for Pampers when he was 2, and then with parts in shows such as “Highway to Heaven” and “Touched By An Angel.”
His first few movie roles were as supporting characters in teen flicks, most notably in “Varsity Blues.”
His career really took off when he was cast as undercover cop Brian O’Conner infiltrating a street-racing gang in 2001’s “The Fast and the Furious.”
The box-office success of the surprise summer hit yielded numerous sequels. And along with Vin Diesel, Walker was one of the franchise stalwarts.
At the time of his death, Walker was working on the seventh film of the franchise, due out next year.
On his verified Twitter account, Walker described himself as “outdoorsman, ocean addict, adrenaline junkie … and I do some acting on the side.”
Walker also is the star of “Hours,” an independent film scheduled to be released December 13 about a father struggling to keep his newborn infant alive in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans.
Twitter and other social media exploded with reactions to Walker’s death.
“Completely numb and saddened to hear of the tragic death of Paul Walker,” wrote one posted “Wow.”
Hollywood condolences came from Will Smith, Jack Osbourne, DMX and others.
