The Vista/Dunes course, designed by Devlin and Von Hagge is a just shy of 7,000 yards of Scottish links golf, complete with carefully placed mounding, lots of bunkers and undulating fairways and greens. The par 72 championship course will make you feel you’re a wee bit up in old Scotland.

Next door, you’ll find the 9-hold (3,065 yards, par 35) Lakes course, with generous fairways but tricky water features on six of the nine holes.

“Magnolia Court will be a Southern bistro, with creative seasonal foods available locally wherever possible,” Chef Buschmohle said. “The foundation of the menu is classic preparations and fresh ingredients,” he said.

The Lunch Menu is designed to accommodate diners with a schedule to keep, as well as those interested in a more leisurely approach to their meal. Among the offerings on the initial lunch menu, which will change seasonally:

• An assortment of entree salads that are filling yet light, including the “Magnolia Salad,” with Boston lettuce, hearts of palm, Panko crusted goat cheese, oven-roasted Roma tomatoes and your choice of dressing, several of which are house-made.

Even before we made it into the restaurant we encountered compliments on the quality of the food. Once inside, it was clear that South Baldwin County has an amazing new place to find fresh, local ingredients and good southern bistro recipes.

Among the customers was Mr. Leon Hill, the founder of First National Bank of Baldwin County.  The folks at Leon’s table, like many throughout the restaurant, couldn’t resist sharing tasty morsels with their tablemates. Here’s what Leon had to say:

“I have a new favorite restaurant – Magnolia Court. There were four of us and I think I sampled almost everything at the table. My favorites, in no particular order, were the grilled oysters, crab encrusted grouper, stuffed chicken breast, yellowfin tuna and the key lime pie,” Leon said.

One side dish that seemed to be on everyone’s favorites list is a delicate but flavorful lemon risotto that had already elicited comments on the restaurants Web site even before the doors opened.

Among the diners on opening night were Carl Jones, Arthur Holk, Fannie Jo Holk and Frances Holk-Jones. They took a moment to offer compliments to Don Lambert, manager of Hotel Magnolia and impresario of Magnolia Court.

Mr. Lambert said a lot of work went into getting the restaurant ready to open on the target date of June 1.

“Greg and his entire staff have been working hard to get us to this point, so it was gratifying to see such an overwhelmingly positive response from our very first patrons,” Mr. Lambert said. “We are pleased that we can offer Baldwin County a dining venue that offers the very best ingredients and preparation at such an affordable price.”
