Throughout the course of rock history, there have always
seemed to be bands that just can't make up their minds as
to whether they're a pop band or a rock band. Or rather,
they tip their pop/rock stylings so far towards sticky
sweet melodies that they're a rock band only in name. Case
in point, Tiny Animals and their 2009 effort, the
appropriately titled Sweet Sweetness. While there are some
passing musical similarities to Weezer and the Strokes
throughout, Tiny Animals are all about penning melodies
that stick in your noggin like a pitchfork that you just
can't break free from. For the supersonic proof, the album
opening "Youth Today" is a good place to start, as well as
"Useless" and "Goodbye July." Tiny Animals make no bones
about their desire to pen straight-ahead pop nuggets, as
heard throughout Sweet Sweetness.

standard Lame 3.97 (V2 --vbr-new). Not everyone has access to albums
that were released several years ago and sceners are sick of searching

New Leatherface for you to listen before you buy
it. I know you will!

Heres a review:
Some records whether theyre brand new or not
have this sort of lived-in quality that will
just set a mind at ease when they start playing.
It might be the lyrics that speak just right or
the guitar tone that feels like the listener is
sitting in the eye of a storm, or a rhythm
section that strikes just the right chord in a
listener but, whatever it is, it just feels like
home. Thats the sort of feeling that The Stormy
Petrel Leatherfaces first album released
since 2004s Dog Disco and also the first on the
bands own label imbues in listeners. That
isnt to say the band has chucked the melodic
punk and hardcore strains that first drew fans
in over the last twenty-two years and ventured
to the more steadied center of adult
contemporary mediocrity (far from it), just that
from the opening minor chord torrent of God Is
Dead, there is a fantastic balance struck
between sweet songwriting and sour sentiments
that invites listeners in before presenting them
with more power and raw ecstatic disturbance
than most would be able to handle in one shot.

From the moment singer Frankie Stubbs opens his
mouth and utters the words, God is dead his
voice cracked with abuse and strained with a
resigned anger and frustration that you know
youve felt before yourself to open the album,
hes got listeners locked in and hypnotized for
the long haul through the album. That voice is a
treasure and, backed with the wildly emotive
sonics supplied by Philliskirk, drummer Stefan
Musch and guitarist Dickie Hammond, it creeps
straight down to the bone marrow of anyone
listening. While its clear in songs like My
Worlds End, Never Say Goodbye, Nutcase and
Broken that each of the band members is
struggling with a sense of frustration that
isnt perfectly defined (the closest to an
exacting form and description of whats going on
comes when Stubbs cordially invites listeners
into hell with the line, Welcome to my worlds
end), the upside to that sort of open-ended
presentation is that listeners can enter the
songs, read into them how they choose and take
away a validation that is unique for them and
somehow vivid; the way the songs are written
implies the staple structures of a half-dozen
music genres (including some post-punk, the
darker end of the Brit-pop spectrum, some
alternative rock and even a little folk), but
the final aftertaste is largely dependent on the
sensibilities of the individual listener more
than it is dependent upon the creative drive of
the band.

That said, while it might sound coy, the secret
in best experiencing the music on The Stormy
Petrel lies in just exactly how much a listener
wants to put in to the album. Its not that the
album is emotionally vacant (again, far from it)
but, rather, a listener is capable of projecting
themselves into the music and it will, in turn,
comfort them, console them, soothe nerves, raise
adrenaline, coax them, cajole them, incite them
or disarm them and more each possibility being
totally dependent upon what that listener
brought in with them on their way through the
front door. That open emotional canvas may be
Leatherfaces secret weapon hidden in The Stormy
Petrel; depending on the day, a listener may get
something completely different in return each
time they listen. In that way, it could be said
that The Stormy Petrel is the gift of an album
that keeps on giving.

rH  has been  releasing stuff  for about ten
years now. although we committed ourselves  to
release  only stuff  roughly characterized  by
the terms punk and hardcore we've been playing
a big role in the scene in our ten   years  of
existence.  a main  concept of  rH has  always
been   the   idea   of  a   leaderless   group.
decisions are met  on the base  of discussion,
rather than authority and hierarchy. this  way
of  handling  issues  can  be  pretty annoying
sometimes, as  it can  take ages  to agree  on
certain issues  and get  stuff done.  however,
the  occasional  lack  of  organisation  is  a
sacrifice rH is willing to make, to  guarantee
individual   freedom   and   thus   a  relaxed
atmosphere. after all it's amazing that  we've
kept the machine running for about ten years
this way.

We know  that our  releases may  contribute to
the  growing  sale loss  of  record companies.
generally that's  no big  deal of  course, the
whining of the record industry is pathetic and
we encourage everyone  to pirate their  music.
unfortunately  the bands  we release  are very
often  put  out by  small,  independent labels
which  work  on   a  very  low-profit   basis,
actually   dependent  on   record  sales.   so
significant loss of sales in this case doesn't
mean  some rockstar  is making  a few  million
less on his latest nu-metal album than he used
to, but us  loosing the opportunity  to listen
to good music.

Therefore we  ask you  not to  distribute our
releases on  public  sites  or  peer  to  peer
networks! please do not consider this  release
as a substitute to the original, but as a  way
to  promote new  bands and  check out  records
before you buy them.

So we  urge you  to support  the bands, attend
their  shows,  buy   their  vinyls,  cds   and
tshirts. so far there's a fairly good  network
of  underground   labels  providing   us  with
outputs  from  awesome  bands,  your   ongoing
support is required to keep the scene alive!
