Fear The Monk was a song-oriented funky rock project. It gets dark and intense at times. But it always grooves and there’s some killer musicianship in there. It’s burnin’!

• Move On – Passionate and dreamlike. “Five o’clock yesterday, I dreamt of leaving you behind.”
• Gone, Gone, Gone – Huge chorus. Creative arrangement. Sick guitar solo! “You’re gone, gone. No longer we. And you’re down on me?”
• Rescue Me – Dark and moody. Build and builds. Spiritual chanting. “He’s been looking for the wise man.”
• We’re Alive – Upbeat and hard driving. “We’re Alive. Can you feel it!”
• Circles – Inspired by Jon Krakauer’s Into The Wild. Spacious and huge. “There’s no mercy in Circles.”
• True Home – Epic rock! Fully written in a dream. “Fearless mystic, lifting the veil.”
• Last Toast – Slow and dirty funk. Synth bass and talk box. Another blast off guitar solo! “Last Toast from a paper cup.”

This album was self-produced and shopped around in the early 2000s. It got us some good gigs but it wasn’t enough to keep the band together. A killer group of guys that always makes me feel nostalgic for old times and heavy duty playing!

I’ve got a feeling that you’ll enjoy this musical snapshot from the vault. You’ll know exactly where I’m coming from after you “like” this page!

The problem with really liking, I mean really liking Bob Dylan, is that it’s almost too easy. It’s even more obvious with The Beatles. I LOVE The Beatles. But who doesn’t? Some things are pretty much default and don’t count towards your life experience points.

Still, the reason we love The Beatles and Bob Dylan is because it’s really damn great stuff. Almost undeniable. Or at least, if you do deny it, you look a little out of touch.

It’s the reason I’ve spent so many hours analyzing Dylan’s songwriting. Did it help? Well, not sure. But at least these word clouds I made from his albums are a tangible result.

I made one a day for several weeks. There’s still stones to be unturned. I use them as rotating desktop backgrounds.

First, here’s some of what I’ve been up to.

• I completed my Songwriting Master Certificate with Berklee College of Music!
• I laid down some jazz/funk keys on Field Trip‘s album, There’s Shag On Jupiter.
• I redesigned Logic Studio Training.
• I launched a new site, Stomp Box Guru.
• I toured Sweden with Field Trip. Wow!
• I got not one, but two Boston Terriers, Miles and Ella.

I also spent more time than Kim Kardashian’s marriage updating the code on this blog.

The next list will only be interesting to the web geeks out there.

• The blog is now HTML5. I started with HTML5 Boilerplate and used Blueprint CSS for the framework. I used Blueprint CSS for the previous design too. I’m not 100% HTML5, I’m not using article or section tags, but those are simple upgrades. I learned a ton during the process. The boilerplate is a great resource.
• I replaced all background images with CSS and fallback images for people who aren’t Browser Happy. I’m even using a cutting edge radial gradient in the header.
  
• I’ve socialized it more extensively with Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, and Google+.
• I removed a bunch of wasteful features and code to improve page speed.
• I made the text larger. I didn’t go quite as large as is recommended, but I split the difference and recognize now that it was entirely too small at 12px.
• I switched from Feedblitz to Aweber for email blog subscriptions.
• I added a Gigs calendar page using GigPress.
• There’s a lot of credit to go around here. Buttons, Gradients, Typography, I could go on and on. If you’re curious how I did something, please ask in the comments.

I’ll be importing my Feedblitz subscribers into Aweber so be on the lookout for a confirmation email with the subject: Please confirm your email address with Graham English.

I’m excited for what’s to come. I’ve got tunes, transcriptions, reviews, tutorials on songwriting, musicianship, and the mac, contests, and a lot more planned for the new year!
