Frustration and anxiety are building up in you with quick shallow breathing. Your heart is pounding violently. In medical terms it is refer to as palpitation, a very unpleasant feeling. Have you heard of “fight or flight response?  These reaction in our body when triggered by stress or an on-going stress situation, releases hormone such as cortisol. Cortisol level can increase two to five-fold during stressful period 3. High levels of cortisol from long-term stress can increase blood cholesterol, triglycerides, blood sugar, and blood pressure. Imagine yourself being in this mode of “fight or flight response” on and off a couple of times in day. This eventually will affect our mood, sleep, appetite and lastly our beloved heart.</div>

				<div class="et_pb_text_inner">A 2017 survey conducted by the American Psychological Association (APA) showed that women reported significantly higher levels of overall stress than men. Women have smaller hearts and coronary vessels than men. The Statistics on cause of death in Malaysia, 2020 reported that heart disease is the no.2 killer in women while breast cancer ranked fourth. According to study, cardiovascular disease develops 7 to 10 years later in women than in men1. Heart disease does not discriminate, however there are several risk factors that are known to be unique for women.  Many women are not aware when estrogen level decline drastically after menopause it increases the risk of getting heart disease. Estrogen keep blood vessels flexible, which means they can relax and expand to accommodate blood flow. Nevertheless, women who experience high blood pressure or diabetes during pregnancy might be at higher risk. Well, women regardless of any age should not take this lightly.  Besides, women with family history of heart disease, poor diet and lack of physical activity have a negative impact on your heart. </div>

				<div class="et_pb_text_inner">Heart attack in women might be diagnosed less often because women symptoms differs from men. Although the most common heart attack symptom is the same as in men such as chest pain, pressure or discomfort that lasts more than few minutes. However, chest pain is not noticeable symptoms particularly in women who get it more often when resting or asleep. </div>

	•	Sweating<br />
	•	Dizziness<br />

Heart disease has always been perceived as an aging &#038; hereditary disease over the years.  You may think that there is nothing you can do stop it. But the good news is there are things you can do to delay, prevent, and reverse your risk.</div>

Go red- eat more red colour food such as strawberry (antioxidants), tomatoes (lycopene), red apples, cranberries, cherries, beetroot and red dates. Heart associations around the world encourage Omega-3 fatty acids such salmon, mackerel, sardines, avocado, walnut, chia seeds and hemp seeds to be include in our diet. The recommended intake for Malaysians is 670mg of omega-3 rich food on a daily basis including some fibre-rich fruits, vegetables and whole grains too. </p>
<p>	•	Listen to your heart.  The human heart is one of the first organs to form and function. Be thankful and practise gratitude towards your heart, who serves you from the day you were conceived in your mother’s womb. </p>
<p>	•	Follow your heart. Spend time and connect with the ones you love on a regular basis.  It is advisable to schedule body check up on regular basis, starting in your early twenties. </p>
<p>	•	Tone you heart. Your heart is an organ that&#8217;s largely made up of muscle. Get some cardio workout base on your individual physical level to strengthen and build your heart muscle. If you are experiencing any form any joints issue or is a heart patient, you may go for low impact workout. Any workout is better than no workout.</div>

				<div class="et_pb_text_inner">Unless you had been meditating in a cave somewhere since November 2019, you would have been impacted in one way or another by the Covid-19 pandemic of 2020. Speaking of caves and meditation, in March, the American actor Jared Leto did suddenly find himself in a locked down world when he emerged from the desert after 12 days of ‘silent meditation’. Now, that’s self-isolation with a twist!</p>
<p>My home country Malaysia imposed its version of the lockdown – ‘Movement Control Order’ on March 18 (and it still is in operation at this time of writing). All businesses were to be closed except the most essential ones; physical distancing was to be maintained. No unnecessary travel was allowed and everyone was to ‘stay-at-home’.</p>
<p>Never in my life could I have imagined such an experience – being shut off from the rest of the world physically except through the screen of my phone and laptop. Thank goodness for technology &#8211; at least we can still talk and see each other! What makes this event stand out even more is that every human being on earth is having the same shared experience. If there ever is‘unity’ in the world, then stay-at-home is it!</div>

				<div class="et_pb_text_inner">Disease, like pain, is never the cause but the symptom or signal of an underlying imbalance. Healing happens when the body restores the balance by itself internally or with medicines or herbs. When the imbalance is too far out and can’t be restored, that’s when death happens.</p>
<p>We are part of the Earth and the Earth is a part of us. Our bodies are the same as the Earth’s with the same chemicals and minerals and the same body of water. As the Earth falls ill due to imbalance, so will humans. Consider how similar the main symptoms of the pandemic are to Earth’s imbalances from air pollution (short of breath), resource depletion (tiredness), water pollution (dry cough) and global warming (high fever). Now as the Earth restores balance and heals, so will we.</p>
<p>Human activities and their unbridled consumption of Earth’s resources have caused an illness of the animals came back after the city streets fell empty. Yes, Earth is reclaiming parts of itself and healing. This healing has however come at a cost which at the human level can be sad, shocking and traumatic.</div>

				<div class="et_pb_text_inner">On the flip side, the forced stay home allows us to, for instance, meditate or to be ‘inside’ ourselves. Meditating gives us a way to reflect on what’s happening and how it is affecting us mentally and emotionally – our thoughts, fears and anxieties – especially for all those people who are worried about their jobs and businesses. Meditating helps us to clear the unproductive thoughts and emotions and clears the space for creative solutions to the situation. It is like how the sky and the rivers have cleared from pollution and we can see clearer.</p>
<p>Instead of jogging or the gym, we can take up yoga during this ‘homestay’. There are plenty of online yoga classes that one can sign up for to keep the body stretched and moving. As for groceries, food and all manner of products, these can be purchased online and delivered to our doorstep.</p>
<p>Pre-lockdown ‘normal’ activities seem more exciting because they are about being ‘out there’ and physically mingling with people other than family. We can still mingle with people with the many social and web conferencing apps in the Net, the only difference is that it’s not done physically ‘out there’. But do consider that this is a small price to pay for the Earth to heal itself. We’ll all be better off because of it.</p>
<p>Our biggest lessons are found through our families, don’t you think? That includes parents, spouses, children. The stay-home has forced us to face these lessons, not for hours or days but for weeks on end. No, this is not a cruel joke by the Universe but our saving grace. Through these relationship challenges, we find ourselves. But this will happen only when we take the time to go inside ourselves and see how that relationship has made us who we are and how we can change the relationship and thus ourselves. ‘No time’ is no more an excuse for any personal change.</p>
<p>Another good thing about being with the family the whole day is that we do not need to wear the mask for the world ‘out there’ anymore. We are getting used to being our genuine selves without the ‘makeup’.</div>

				<div class="et_pb_text_inner">As the Earth takes a breather from our activities, so do we, as we stay at home. There are those who feel despair in not being able to go out and do the usual routines like jogging or going to the gym, walking the dog, going to the grocer, eating out, having a day or night out with friends, getting a haircut, having a pedicure and all those other activities that make our lives so interesting. There is a feeling of being cramped in, like being a prisoner in our own home.</p>
<p>There are also those of us whose livelihoods depend on things going back to normal such as those of us who run businesses or who are employed in the travel, entertainment or hospitality industries, all of whom are feeling the financial brunt of the lockdown orders. It can be very stressful to not have income or job security when there are mouths to feed and bills to pay.</p>
<p>Relationships may also be strained with family members being cooped up at home all day. There may be more tension in the household from increased contact between family members who do not get along. Domestic violence may explode more frequently. As for romantic relationships, courting couples will feel the strain of being physically apart.</div>

				<div class="et_pb_text_inner">Whether you feel good or not from the lockdown is really up to you. It really is a matter of choosing either to stay positive or fearful through this period. Admittedly it can’t be easy when almost the entire human population has created this gigantic bubble of fear about the pandemic. However, enough positive minds and hearts will overcome not only the fear, but the pandemic as well. Positive thinking will also help the Earth heal.</p>
<p>Don’t get stuck, keep moving. Utilize the new opportunities that are manifesting because of the great changes that are happening. Change is the only constant in the Universe. Let’s surrender and accept what we can’t control. The biggest prison is the prison of our minds. Be free! Don’t let the pandemic lock you down. Get creative with your life, because you are the creator of your life! Open your heart to discover other means of creating other than with your mind and thoughts.</p>
<p>Yes, it may be tough, but we all have to go through this phase of healing. As the Earth heals, so do we. This is the re-start that’s giving everyone on the planet an equal chance to start anew. The virus does not judge. Many have lost family members, businesses and have to re-start and re-build (my heart and love go out to them). How difficult is it for those who have not really lost anything? No matter which category you are in, this is your chance to re-start.</p>
<p>No, this isn’t a lockdown – it’s a free-up!</p>

<p>Coping with responsibilities stemming from new abilities learned is another added life task both the young child and a teen have to cope with. The young child starts learning to cope at school and having to interact with peers on different levels, the teen copes with feelings of sexual attraction in relationships, and a host of other more intense feelings than before.</p>
<p>As they get older, parents assume that they are on different wavelengths with their children and it often seems that way. Even though teenagers may be experiencing different environmental and economic situations, they still search for independence and self-identity as all teens over the generations have. But this does not mean that their parents have to “let them go”. Parents staying securely connected is vital to a teen’s mental and emotional health.						</p>
<p>There are many adults out there who have issues with abandonment. Instead of adjusting the bond making it flexible, many parents cut it off. The latter is often due to the parents’ own fears, and they thicken it or shorten the bond until their children feel claustrophobic and can’t feel the independence (and even privacy) they crave for. In doing so parents push their children away, then wonder why their children, “don’t care”.</div>

Be open to any type of questions, even those that scare you or may not seem “appropriate” . Together with him, you can explore answers to questions that you have no answers to, or at least point him in the right direction to find the answers himself.<br />

Give honest answers appropriate to the child’s level of understanding. Tell him that if he comes across anything confusing, he can always come back to you. Hug him. Project feelings of security.</p>
<p>Love and trust couched in a strong connection, are still the most important ingredients in creating lasting relationships with your child. Start early, make the connection strong but flexible. Cultivating this connection is of upmost importance at any stage in your child’s life. Your child needs you always. A Parent is for Life. But don’t hover, allow.</p>

Thus, the saying that abundance is what you already have is actually more important than it seems.</p>
<p>We often focus on the lack in our life and not what we already have.</div>

Even if you believe that you have never been “rich” or “abundant”, a movie or positive media reference about abundance should help. Hold and facilitate that space of abundance by feeling it in your heart, mind and body.</p>
<p>We humans tend to focus a lot on our past and that we believe we can accurately predict the future based on the past. This makes us feel secure, we are fallible to believe that we can ensure things always stay as they are. Our current situation is the result of our past thoughts and action.</p>
<p>In order to have a different future we must change the current situation that will eventually become the past. Reality lies within what we see, do, act and feel at this very moment in time. Our bank account reflects the results of our past thoughts, feelings and actions. And we can only work with the current time, after all.</div>

<p>We forget that emotions are more powerful than thoughts and what we often project and manifest is not what we think but what we actually feel inside. Changing thoughts is easy but changing emotions is tricky. This is why some people have trouble using affirmations alone. Manage your emotions, keep them on the high (highly positive). Keep in the state of abundance. Align to the future you want to see.</p></div>

And we need to do this until our being, and the Universe, recognize our emotions about our situation as the truth.</p>
<p>Even if you are not sure how to move the spiritual into physical reality, the ideas and abundance will come whilst you’re holding this state of abundance. Abundance will feel natural to you and you will be able to take inspired action. Opportunities will start appearing.</p>
<p>We never worry about how we breathe, we just trust that we are able to &#8211; the state of abundance feels very much that way too.</p></div>

<p>Mind, body and soul have to work together and be aligned. Learning through mistakes even if you fall can prove useful as well and provide you with useful experience. This experience could lead you to a bigger and better opportunity. Be consistent and follow through.</p></div>

They don’t doubt, for example, if they want something badly, they will think and dream about it day and night, as if they already have it.</p>

Why not ask yourself, “How can I afford this?”. Use your imagination and explore. Change the focus</p>

<p>The ability to give is abundance and how you give to someone else, with love and without expectations, is important too. It’s not so much what you give to others. When you give, do it with an open heart and without fear of being left with less.</p>
<p>When you receive, give a compliment on what you have received, breathe in the generosity vibes (energies) and hold it with gratitude.</p>

				<div class="et_pb_text_inner">The news about our retrenchment started through the “grapevine”, but I shrugged it off as a joke whilst continuing to work hard. Back then, my head was fully occupied with work-related matters, from the moment I woke up until I fell asleep. There were always undone, potentially missed or improperly executed tasks either on my end or my colleagues’ end.</p>
<p>I never really had weekends. Simple pleasures like reading the papers seemed like a time-wasting activity to me. I barely had a social life and spent little time with family members. I had let work dominate my life and everything that defined me had something to do with my work.</div>

				<div class="et_pb_text_inner">Unfortunately, the grapevine turned out to be true. Everyone got worried, but not me, because I was under the false assumption that my hard work protected me, that I would be the last one the company would retrench. I also thought that I was tough emotionally, that I wouldn’t be affected even if I was on the list. Besides, there were plenty of jobs at other companies.</p>
<p>Then, events unfolded in turbo mode. In a half dreamy state, my colleagues and I went through the official town hall style of announcing the retrenchments, received our letters in private sessions and attended sombre farewell lunches. Since I was among the first few to leave the company, I had insufficient time to successfully nail another job. </div>

				<div class="et_pb_text_inner">Reality only hit hard when I woke up from my bed, day after day, with nowhere to go. In between meals, washroom visits, frantic job hunting and reading, I just laid on my bed, staring at the rotating ceiling fan. My mind was empty while my emotions were running wild. My life seemed chaotic and out of control.</p>
<p>The retrenchment was shocking and traumatic, and I tried very hard to deny it. A part of me insisted that I was fine, even convincing myself that I was just taking an extended leave to indulge in my much neglected writing hobby.</div>

				<div class="et_pb_text_inner">However, as I sat down in front of the keyboard, the frustration, anger and resentment welled up in me. I questioned why I was chosen as one of the first few to leave and not others. I felt hurt and betrayed at not being kept longer on the payroll. I even bargained with the universe.</p>
<p>I wished and prayed for a miracle; perhaps management would change their mind and request that I return to work.</p>
<p>Eventually I entered into depression. I slept with knotted eyebrows and looked like a dead fish. My mind kept repeating two words in the retrenchment letter, “excess and redundant”, until I believed that I was really an excess and a redundant human being in this world! My self- esteem plummeted. I viewed myself as being useless, not good enough for anything and having no future. Day after day, these thoughts hit me whilst I stared at that rotating fan.</div>

				<div class="et_pb_text_inner">But a part of me knew that I had to move on in life. I wanted to understand what was happening to me emotionally, and I did so after researching on the Internet. The decision finally came for me to make peace with my circumstances. I accepted the fact that I was retrenched. It was not something that could be undone nor should</p>
<p>I continue to be depressed for the rest of my life. I had to get over it if I was ever to live out the rest of my life meaningfully! And I did get over it.</div>

				<div class="et_pb_text_inner">Today, I no longer see retrenchment as a bad thing or a smudge in my resume. Instead, I am grateful. Retrenchment forced me to reflect on life and reconnect with my inner self. The realization that I was really not happy working the way I did finally hit me.</p>
<p>Somehow, being a perfectionist- cum-workaholic had made me blind to other wonderful and crucial aspects of life. I had long forgotten how to love, smile and laugh from my heart. I had been neglecting my friends and family members. At work, I often exerted anger to intimidate others, with harsh speech and words. No wonder some colleagues had shunned me!</p>
<p>Most importantly, retrenchment helped me to rediscover my love for writing. Sharing the vulnerable side of me with others in the written word is a humbling and therapeutic process. Without retrenchment, I would not be writing this article. I hope that my little story can help many of you out there who are facing the same inevitability as I did many years ago. Life always gives us a second chance, and the second chance may just be the one that you’re looking for. </div>
