The first Vandalene release on Renegade Screw 'Spamula EP' showcases his unique take on house and techno music with drops of African thumb pianos, Steve Reich inspired repetition and a whole lot of gritty character.

Opening the EP is the Four Tet indebted 'Back On Track' with its pulsing house bassline and driving drums exploding into a melody of kalimbas to end the track. The next track is 'Four Kalimbas' with obvious reference to Reich, this is more ambient than the previous track whilst continuing the African vibe.

The dark 'Get Me Our Money' follows with its dubby vocal cuts and funky bassline changing the mood of the EP. The next track is the very slow moving, ambient 'Trains' which continues the dub feel with nods to Basic Channel and Aphex Twin’s ambient works.

The EP climaxes on the stand-out track 'Mephedrone' which is dowsed in darkness. A droning bassline accompanies paranoid piano sounds crackling within a ferocious minimal techno beat.

The second in the series of Screw Session mixes, this one is supplied completely by Soundcloud artists. The mix goes from the sort of wonky hip-hop of Flying Lotus, passing through the chilled sounds of late-night atmospheric dubstep and ending with some real bass-heavy dubs. This new release from Phat Koknoz sees him explore Luxembourg's winter beauty whilst touching on it's cold capitalist heart. Tracks inspired by travels to dubstep nights in London (Long Walk In The Dark) and Brussels (Bumfire) also feature.

Highlights include the ambient Flying Lotus sounding 'Homeless' and the rampant bass pumping of 'Secrets'. Deep bass tones and ambient vocals pass through twitching yet punishing drumbeats with dubstep undergoing a revolution at a variety of different tempos. The EP ends with 'Enter The Darkness' and 'When I Think About You' almost entering DnB territory.

More upbeat than his previous release PK1, this hears Phat Koknoz consolidate his sound further yet introducing an altogether rougher edge. The whole EP flows into one with each track mixing seamlessly between one another. Unmixed tracks are available upon request.

The first Blind Foley release on Renegade Screw sees him doused in jazz and set alight in a fire of funk on an eclectic musical journey through Edinburgh's dark wet streets.

This journey makes its way through an incredible number of genres and influences ranging from the ambient yet majestic 'Rain on Leith', the DnB tinged 'Banana Flats...' and ending on the magnificent 'Kung-Fu Kick' which showcases the artists very special brand of minimal techno.

Whilst comparisons can be made to artists such as Four Tet and Mr Scruff, this EP still manages to retain a sound of it's own and would certainly not sound out of place on the Ninja Tunes label.
