Naperville Fire Department requested an extra alarm about noon Thursday for a fire at 1651 Frontenac where a factory was reported to have an explosion involving calcium chloride. At high temperatures or when moistened in fire conditions, calcium chloride can produce toxic or irritating fumes. Calcium chloride, mixed with hot water, can cause violent boiling, therefore calcium chloride incidents are not fought with water. The extinguishing agent used was road salt, which arrived by the truckload at about 2:00 p.m.

Area fire departments were putting out spot fires in the area of the explosion. It is unknown if water was being used on some of the spot fires.

Odermath is listed for the address at 1651 Frontenac. According to Odermath’s website, the company is one of the leading partners in the field of molten metal treatment technology for iron and steelworks, foundries and the non-ferrous industry.

The extra alarm was struck out at 4:00 p.m. Thursday. Fire department equipment is remaining on the scene and is involved in cleanup and decontamination.

A branch of the Illinois Prairie Path passes directly south of the Odermath USA facility.

Schaumburg Police Department called for mutual aid from area police departments — an ILEAS alarm — for a report of shots fired in the area of Evening Song Court and Windsong Drive. The neighborhood is directly across Golf Road from Poplar Creek Village and Brighton Gardens Hoffman Estates, just south of Poplar Creek Country Club. People at Poplar Creek Village and Brighton Gardens are being kept from standing in front of the buildings.

In Schaumburg, Golf Road between Walnut and Knollwood was blocked eastbound and westbound.

Police also kept a wide perimeter — limiting pedestrians from getting near the area where stray bullets or police movement could be dangerous.

NIPAS — Northern Illinois Police Alarm System — a SWAT Team assembled on both sides of a residential unit in the neighborhood.

ILEAS is the acronym for the Illinois Law Enforcement Alarm System.

Arlington Heights Police Department and other area police departments provided mutual aid for this incident.

UPDATE: The shooting suspect at Fort Hood has been identified as Army Major Malik Nadal Hasan. Hasan, believed to be in his late 30s, was killed after opening fire at the base.

‘Effective immediately Fort Hood is closed.’ (The lockdown was lifted just before 7 p.m. local time)

That is the message at Ford Hood in Killeen, Texas after a gunman fired shots inside Fort Hood US Army Base. The offender is reported to be in stable condition. Fort Hood, the largest US military installation in the world, is in full lockdown.

The attack is also known to have happened at Ft. Hood’s Soldier Readiness Center. The shootings began about 1:30 p.m. Thursday at an Army Post — a personnel and medical processing center at Fort Hood.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation is en route with top priority to stop any further killing.

Fort Hood is the largest United States military installation in the world and the only two-division post in the United States, and is the home of III Corps. The III Corps (Third Corps) —nicknamed the Phantom Corps, America’s Hammer, and the Counterattack Corps— is a corps of the United States Army. The III Corps is the official counteroffensive force of the U.S. Army, and it is currently headquartered at Fort Hood, Texas. The formation was originally dubbed the III Armored Corps until 1943, when it was changed to simply III Corps. To this day it is still unofficially known as the “Armored Corps”.

The two divisions on the base are the 1st Cavalry Division and the First Army Division West. Division West recently moved from Fort Carson, Colorado, switching places with 4th Infantry Division. 3d ACR has moved from Ft. Carson Colorado to Ft. Hood TX.

Fort Hood has served as a hub for anti-war activity during both the Vietnam War and the current War on Terror.
