Andrew Bell has teamed up with MPHLabs to produce his all new vinyl figure entitled The Dealmaker! Cast is beautiful soft clear vinyl, The Dealmaker stands 4” tall and is one of the first sofubi style designer toys to be entirely designed and manufactured in the USA. The figure’s first edition is entitled Smoke+Red, which pretty much sums up the figure perfect since it’s cast in clear gray vinyl and features red accents. The Blot loves the scale of this little guy and it features just the right amount of detail. It’s the perfect addition to anyone’s sofubi collection.

The Dealmaker by Andrew Bell went on sale two weeks ago at myplasticheart for $34.99 and sold out almost instantly upon release. Hopefully a second edition will be released soon!

Sleepy Dan T-Shirt Series 3

Last week Sleepy Dan released its newest series of sleep inspired t-shirts, hats and prints at a pretty cool Sleepy Dan art show at Dallas’ Circuit 12 Contemporary Gallery. One of my favorite lines of any movie is “Tonight is your night bro!” from Twins starring Arnold Schwarzenegger and Danny DeVito. Sleepy Dan has taken that classic line and turned it into an awesome neon sign t-shirt design. Sleepy Dan Series 3 also includes a very cool waffle design of the Sleepy Dan logo entitled “Wake & Bake”, which pays homage to the early morning baker trying to set the tone for the day by getting toasted!

But that’s not all…Sleepy Dan has also released a new charcoal and black wool blend “Wake Up” flatbill snapback hat. The hat has a limited edition run size of just 60 pieces, and will never be remade once it sells out. 4-LOM 12” Jumbo Vintage Kenner Star Wars Action Figure by Gentle Giant

Gentle Giant’s newest vintage Star Wars action figure reproduction is the android assassin 4-LOM! And with this release there’s only one more bounty hunter from The Empire Strikes back to receive the jumbo treatment, and that’s Zuckuss. My guess is that’ll be Gentle Giant’s next release for sure.

Star Trek Into Darkness Final Movie Poster

After an extremely long hiatus J.J. Abrams and the cast of the Starship Enterprise are finally back! Kirk, Spock and Company’s continuing journey hits the big screen once again this weekend in Star Trek Into Darkness. The Blot’s done my best to avoid all spoilers, but since I probably won’t be able to see the film in theaters now that my new twin boys are here I’ve come to terms with the fact that it’ll probably get spoiled before I get a chance to see the film. I’m not sure I can wait that much longer to find out who Benedict Cumberbatch really is portraying in the film.

I kinda expected a better final one sheet for Star Trek 2 than this one, but what’s more dramatic than the crashing of the USS Enterprise? Can’t wait to see what kind of box office the film brings in this weekend! Star Trek Into Darkness is set to boldly go into theaters on May 17, 2013.

First Look: Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Extended Promo

While this show should be right up The Blot’s alley (I love me some Agent Coulson played by Clark Gregg), up until this week I really wasn’t all that excited for Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. First off, who cares about the human S.H.I.E.L.D. agents other than Nick Fury and Coulson!?! It’s the super heroes we all know and love! Plus the new ABC television series’ name is horrible. Does it really need to be that long with so much punctuation? But then something crazy happened…even with its lackluster cast Marvel did what it always does, release a kick ass promo! It probably doesn't help that Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is produced by Joss Whedon.

SDCC 13 Exclusive Masters of the Universe Mini He-Man & Skeletor 2 Pack

Typically there’s always one San Diego Comic-Con exclusive by Mattel or Hasbro that really comes out of left field. This year that completely random release is this Masters of the Universe Classics Mini He-Man and Skeletor Set. Oddly enough these mini action figures appear to be an offshoot of Mattel’s now defunct DC Comics Action League. That line never really got off the ground, so I’m surprised Mattel would make a similar line of MOTU mini figures.

These mini versions of He-Man and Skeletor feature six points of articulation (arms, legs, waist and neck), include snap-on accessories such as a power sword, shield and havoc staff, and come packaged in a foldout mini Castle Grayskull diorama! He-Man also includes his trademark shield, which features the traditional j-hook allowing it to be held out in front instead of clipped onto his arm.

SDCC 13 Exclusive “New 52” Shazam! Action Figure by Mattel & DC Comics

San Diego Comic-Con 2013 will mark the debut of the world’s first action figure of the “New 52” Billy Batson, the boy turned DC Comics super hero known as Shazam! Of all of DC Comics’ “New 52” redesigns, the character with the coolest new look is without a doubt the former Captain Marvel, Shazam! I’ve really been looking forward to seeing a toy of the new Shazam, but man I wish Mattel had done a better job with his hood. It fits to his head terribly and looks like it’s standing up unnaturally. Hopefully these pictures aren’t the final product and the sculpting of the hood is much better in the final product. I can’t imagine the Four Horsemen not fixing this before Comic-Con.

Melty Misfits Cheap Toys Resin Figures by Buff Monster

The Blot’s way late on this awesome release from the Buff Monster, but what the heck. Better late than never, right? Evidently there’s been some serious toy drama surrounding Buff’s Melty Misfits Cheap Toys, but I’ll let my buddy Matt over at ToyPinionated.com fill you in on that. The Melty Misfits Cheap Toys are Buff’s continuing homage to his beloved Garbage Pail Kids. You see, in 1986 Topps released a set of 10 “Cheap Toys”. Each of the 10 characters were released in 4 common colors, and packaged in a green plastic bag.

Buff Monster took one of those original 10 figures, Double Heather, and had it resculpted from scratch by Mitch Martinez at the size of the original figures (about 1 3/8"), swapping out her original heads for Buff’s Melty Misfits ice cream heads. Buff then had Healeymade cast this new figure in resin in all 4 of the Garbage Pail Kids’ original colors (red, pink, green and blue). This set went on sale a few weeks ago via Buff Monster’s online store and sole out immediately upon release. They retailed for just $15 each or $55 for a set of four figures.

“Harden My Heart” Women of Cinema Art Exhibit by Mute

The Blot was recently introduced to UK artist Mute through his current solo art show “Harden My Heart.” It’s a new movie themed exhibition at The Old Sweet Shop in Sheffield, UK featuring all digital prints. The show focuses on the women of cinema pushed to the edge like Star Wars’ Princess Leia, The Wizard of Oz’ Dorthy, Alien’s Ripley, and Terminator’s Sarah Connor. Sounds awesome, doesn’t it!?!

The more The Blot sees of Zack Snyder’s Superman film Man of Steel the more I really want to see it! No one has had more of an up and down career than Zack Snyder, but for some strange reason Warner Bros trusts him enough to reboot one of their most iconic characters. The Blot seriously does not get what DC Collectibles is doing with this line of Aardman Animations action figures. I love these Wallace and Gromit versions of DC Comics heroes and villains based on their appearances in the hilarious DC Nation stop-motion animated shorts that have been running on the Cartoon Network this past year, but why do they continue to release the same Batman figure over and over again? What fan wants to keep buying the exact same, expensive Batman figure just to get other characters. At least give us slightly different versions of the Caped Crusader. If I was someone that bought the original NYCC Aaardman Batman I’d be really ticked off it’s been repackaged as part of this DC Nation Aardman 5 piece set.

Marvel's Iron Man 3 Final Movie Poster

So this poster’s been out for a while, but The Blot’s been holding it back until today to mark the official US premiere of Iron Man 3! The film’s final one sheet is actually pretty cool, although really it’s just a mash-up of about 5 previously released Iron Man 3 one sheets. I guess if you hadn’t seen those then this poster would be really cool. Regardless, I’m extremely pumped to see this film and am still holding out hope it’s not Robert Downey Jr.’s last adventure as the armored avenger. I just can’t imagine a Marvel Comics film without RDJ as Tony Stark. At this point he really is the lynchpin of the Avengers movie universe.

Iron Man 3 premieres in the US today, Friday, May 3rd, in theaters everywhere.

In fact, Threadless just released practically the same image as an Iron Man t-shirt just last week. I don’t think PCC copied anyone, I just don’t find it all that creative or imaginative. This weekend Marvel’s armored avenger swoops into theaters once again for his third solo film! 10 years ago a comic book fan would have called you crazy if you insinuated that Iron Man would be one of the world’s biggest movie stars. Melding the passions of French artist McBess, Le Dead Plastique is a black and white punch in the face! The 20” rock’n’roll incarnate is tatted up with a mesh of music, marauders, and meat paying special homage to dead pirates and pretzels. For this release McBess wanted to make an extension of his illustrations, so as you can see it’s a simple black and white rock and roll character with big bold text on him. The figure looks really cool, but the marketing of it is beyond confusing. From the photo above it looks like the 20” Le Dead Plastique also includes a 3” Dunny, but there’s no mention of it. Rumor is they’ll be sold separately, but The Blot’s seen no confirmation of this from Kidrobot.

It’s so exciting to have my home town convention take an interest in our little niche corner of the art world and I hope by bringing these three talented artists to Houston we’ll be able to take the Texas toys scene to the next level. This is a big toy event for Texas, and I hope to see all of you there (I’ll do my best to tear myself away from changing diapers for at least an hour). I can’t wait to see what Sucklord, Nathan and Scott have in store for us!

Comicpalooza 2013 takes place in Houston, Texas on Memorial Day weekend (May 24-26). Weekend passes are currently available and can be purchased by heading over to the Comicpalooza website. This show has such a killer line-up of celebrities, artists, writers and so much more, and The Blot hopes to see you there!

Yesterday Sket One made the entire designer art toy world drool simultaneous with his unexpected release of this amazing Ecto-1 Custom Fatcap based on the Ghostbusters’s signature vehicle. How freaking awesome is this one of a kind 8” custom vinyl figure? Not only does is its head a real working light, but features the Ghostbusters logo and includes a Ghostbusters PKE Meter and a Ghost Trap! It’s freaking ingenious if you ask me.

The Ecto-1 Custom Ghostbusters Fatcap vinyl figure by Sket One retailed for $550 through the Sket One online store, but sold out immediately upon release. There’s still some awesome stuff in his online store though so definitely go check it out!

Digitally scanned from mint Kenner originals and reproduced to a substantial 12" tall, this Jumbo Vintage Kenner Star Wars Dengar action figure by Gentle Giant is an exact replica of the classic ‘80s toy!

Injection molded and made of durable plastics, this jumbo figure includes a faithfully reproduced blaster, is fully articulated and comes packaged on a 1980s Empire Strikes Back style blister card (featuring the original front and “45 back” artwork) with a plastic outer clam shell to help protect and display this awesome action figure.

Heavy Trooper Vasquez Custom 8” Dunny by Huck Gee

Huck Gee continues his line of 8" custom Dunny vinyl figures based on his epic Post-Apocalypse 3” Dunny Series produced by Kidrobot. Long before there was the Dread Squad, there was Enclave 13, the utopian hypercity that became Vasquez's early adopted home. Plucked from the wasteland at a very young age, Vasquez was hosed down, suited up and conscripted into the military academy. It was within the walls of this academy that a young Vasquez would come to meet two of his future Dread Squad mates, Lensman and Thundersticks. Once out of the academy Vasquez quickly worked his way up the military ladder and into the ranks of Enclave 13's Heavy Troopers.

Mondo Exclusive Oblivion Soundtrack 2LP by M83

Later today Mondo will be releasing its newest soundtrack on two crazy clear vinyl records, and it just so happens to be for the #1 movie in America, Oblivion! Tom Cruise’s newest film looks amazing, and for a sci-fi film it did crazy good business at the theaters last weekend. M83’s Anthony Gonzalez with Joseph Trapanese did the score for Oblivion and Mondo used the beautiful screen print by Kilian Eng they previously released for the film as the soundtrack’s cover artwork.

The Mondo Exclusive Oblivion Soundtrack 2LP by M83 is limited edition and goes on sale at a random time today, Friday, April 26th, at the Mondo online store for $25. Don’t worry if you miss out on this release, as a standard edition on black vinyl will go on store in record stores everywhere starting May 28th.

The Walking Dead Plush Figures by Funko

Ok seriously, what’s cuter than a disemboweled plush zombie? Absolutely nothing! And that’s why this summer Funko will be releasing a new line of 7” plush figures based on the hit AMC television show The Walking Dead! The first wave of TWD plush figures include Rick Grimes, Daryl Dixon, Bicycle Girl Zombie and the Well Zombie. The Blot’s got a feeling people are going to be fighting over these adorable Daryl Dixon dolls. It seems like everything The Walking Dead that’s Daryl related sells out almost instantly upon release.

Each The Walking Dead plush figure by Funko is modeled after the character’s appearance in TWD television show and stands 7” tall. While these adorably gruesome dolls are not scheduled to hit store shelves until July 1st, you can pre-order all four plushes from Entertainment Earth for $9.99 here.

Star Trek Into Darkness Character Portrait Movie Poster Set

Paramount has released its second set of Star Trek Into Darkness character movie poster set, but sadly these one sheet movie posters pale in comparison to the film’s first batch of posters (seen here). Although these character portrait movie posters are kind of dull with their yellowish brown color schemes, at least they still feature director J.J. Abrams’ signature lens flair!

What’s great about this set of Star Trek Into Darkness character movie posters is it actually includes different characters from the first poster set. That’s pretty rare these days, but thankfully Star Trek has such a large cast we can get posters for more than just the film’s 4 main leads (Chris Pine’s Captain Kirk, Zachary Quinto’s Spock, Zoe Saldana’s Uhura and Benedict Cumberbatch’s unnamed villain). This time we also got posters for Karl Urban’s Dr. Leonard “Bones” McCoy, John Cho’s Hikaru Sulu and newcomer Alice Eve’s Dr. Carol Marcus.

Star Trek Into Darkness is set to boldly go into theaters on May 17, 2013.

Thor: The Dark World Screen Print by Olly Moss

Has it really been over two years since Olly Moss was commissioned to design a Thor screen print as the wrap gift for the cast and crew of Marvel’s first live action Thor movie!?! Well, Thor: The Dark World (aka Thor 2) will be released later this year and once again Olly was invited to design the wrap gift for the film’s cast and crew. How awesome is that!?! Even cooler is Olly was “paid” for his work with a real Mjolnir! The Blot is all kinds of jealous.

What’s particularly bad ass about this Thor: The Dark World screen print is that Olly made a unique poster for each principal cast member with their character as the focal point of the poster. As you can see above there’s Chris Hemsworth’s Thor, Tom Hiddleston’s Loki, Anthony Hopkins’ Odin and Idris Elba’s Heimdall.

Yesterday Dark Ink and Acme Archives Direct released the second print in Dave Perillo’s original Star Wars Trilogy Set! “The Empire Strikes Back” is based on the Star Wars film of the same name, and includes pretty much all of the key characters from Episode V, including Lobot! Ok forget Lobot, but how can you not love Perillo’s interpretation of Luke, Leia, Han and Lando in his unique art style!?!

Diamond Select Toys and Art Asylum continue their popular line of Classic Thundercats Minimates box sets with a new set featuring characters from the legendary made for television movie ThunderCats Ho! This Previews exclusive set features newly discovered Thunderians Lynx-O, Pumyra and Bengali, the evil Ratar-O and Robear Bert. The Blot was totally shocked to learn about this set, because even though I’ve always loved these “new” ThunderCats they’re pretty obscure characters to the general public. It’s hard to believe Thor 2 will be in theaters later this year. Marvel is really not messing around in getting these live action Avengers movies into theaters. While The Blot’s got no idea what Thor: The Dark World is about, this poster of Chris Hemsworth as Thor looks awesome and the trailer definitely looks exciting! I surprisingly loved the original Thor film, even Natalie Portman’s annoying Jane Foster, so here’s hoping this film is equally as great. Although do we really need more Jane!?! I’m also glad to see Tom Hiddleston return as Loki, and expect big things from a team-up of the God of Mischief and the God of Thunder!

The Return of Jermaine Rogers’ Dero!?!

On Thursday, April 18th, Houston's own Jermaine Rogers posted a very interesting new picture on his Facebook account! It was a simple red image which read “Creeping May 2013” with the head of Jermaine’s most popular creation, the Dero! What does this mean for the mischievous and evil Dero??? While it could be teasing an upcoming print, The Blot is really hoping it’s a sign that Jermaine’s crazy universe of characters will once again be produce in 3D vinyl form. While Rogers’ inclusion in Kidrobot’s Dunny Apocalypse 3” Series was awesome, I need more JR vinyl!
