<p class="MsoNormal">Numbered ear tags appear in the ears of a high percentage of cows and calves in southwest Missouri. They are obviously put there for a reason but some producers may not be using the full potential of those tags for herd management according to Eldon Cole, a livestock specialist with University of Missouri Extension.</p>

<p class="MsoNormal">The nation&#8217;s cattle inventory is the lowest since 1952, but demand for beef is driving the market to historical high prices.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">&quot;Not only is our market up, but the futures on fat cattle were up over $6 for the week and feeders were up around $4,&quot; said Charley Christensen, general manager at Producers Livestock Auction.</p>
