Target Expands Recall of Child Booster Seats Following Additional Reports of Falls

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with the firm named below, today announced a voluntary recall of the following consumer product. Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed. It is illegal to resell or attempt to resell a recalled consumer product.

Name of Product: Circo Child Booster Seats

Units: About 375,000 (43,000 additional booster seats were recalled in August 2009)

Importer: Target, of Minneapolis, Minn.

Hazard: The booster seat’s restraint buckle can open unexpectedly, allowing a child to fall from the chair and be injured.

Incidents/Injuries: Target has received 10 additional reports of booster seat buckles opening unexpectedly, including three reports of bumps and/or bruises when a child fell forward out of the booster seat, hitting an object or the floor.

Description: The expanded recall involves all Circo Booster Seats, including those sold as early as 2005. The plastic booster seats are blue with green trim and a white plastic restraint buckle. They attach to an adult chair to boost a child to a table. “Circo” and “Booster Seat” can be found on a green label located in the front of the booster seat.

Sold exclusively at: Target stores nationwide from January 2005 through June 2009 for about $13.

Manufactured in: China

Remedy: Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled booster seats and return them to any Target store for a full refund.

Letting baby crawl does more for her then just allowing her to explore and build her muscles. Research has proven time and time again that the act of crawling itself builds patterning in the brain that can help your child take in information and learn better.
Some children who have been diagnosed with learning disabilities or dyslexia are being taught how to crawl correctly and having amazing results. Research shows that it is never to late to re-pattern your brain.
The brain is a complicated organ that still leaves researches amazed at it's abilities.
Baby Jake was brought in by his mother concerned that his reading level was so low for a third grader. He was barely reading three letter words. The doctor asked the mother how long the Jake had crawled as a baby. Since they lived in Alaska where winter temperatures drop so low the floors are too cold to crawl on, Jake had spent all those crawling months in a high chair. The doctor set him to crawling on the floor with a crossover pattern which means left leg right hand, right leg left hand motions. In one month's time Jake went from a first grade reading level to a third grade level which matched his age.
Is this a cure? Not necessarily, you must remember that many things including traumatic births, or injuries can cause children to have learning delays. However, this does give us some hope that simple developmental skills in our children are key in helping them later in life.

Reading books to little ones is so important! Here are some tips for making baby reading time important.

Choose books that have rhythm
Black and White colors will keep their attention and focus
Read the same book over and over for familiarity of sound and understanding
Choose to read at a routine time as reading can aid in bedtime routine or even helping develop coping skills
Board books are great because they can touch, feel, and even chew on them and they are okay
Let your little one turn the pages as they get older. Again board books are great for this
Enjoy your time with you little one. Remember reading may last for a moment but the love and time you shared will make an impact forever.

Family Time and Giving Back

What does your family do to give back? Do you have traditions around the holidays or throughout the year? Tonight our family went to the Salvation Army office and helped count Kettles. We have been helping out during the holidays for three years now. It is a fun way to get everyone involved. The kids run the coin machines and transport the kettles back and forth and my husband and I count the bills. There are always staff around and volunteers who are their to help and to train you. They have specific ways to count the money and everyone needs to show up each night so that it can be done efficiently.
Do you think to give to a kettle during this time? Sometimes its hard to remember to bring change or bills to the store when most everything is done by plastic now. We had one volunteer tell us a particular kettle was very heavy. A lady brought 59.00 in change to the kettle and deposited it. It made an impression on everyone at the counting center. Why didn't I think of that? What a great way to give and get rid of your change...Salvation Army puts it to very good use. Bring some change or bills to a kettle near you. You will be "helping those in need, warming hearts and souls, doing the most good"-Salvation Army
