Recently I received two comments in response to the post Why Do Thai Girls Marry Older Foreign Guys which I want to share with all of you. The fact that comments were left was not unusual (it is currently one of the most commented posts on Thailand Musings), but what was unusual was the source. These comments were left by a 37 year old Thai girl and she talks about why Thai girls get together with foreigners from HER perspective. I thought this was great and provides a unique perspective for us Westerners into the thinking of the Thai female.

In fact, I thought the comments were so insightful and useful I wanted to make sure they were read by the greatest number of TM visitors. So I sent an email to Pass (the comment author) and asked her permission to post these comments on their own. She graciously consented (thank you Pass!) and so here they are for your enjoyment and edification. I hope that all of you find them as intriguing and enlightening as I did.

I am not a member of Thailovelinks but I have use FF., at there I met both {good} guy and bad western guy. I met nice guy (American) who visit me in Thailand last year, he is so nice but because of many reason we decided to be a good friend even we like each other so much. This year I met a British who is working in Thailand almost 3 years we still have the relationship but I don’t think we will have a nice ending. Both of them are older than me over 20 years. Sure in internet date must have the bad guy who wants your money or etc. as you know I have bad experienced but I too tried to tell you here.

Even I am not yet success with the western guy but I never stop to look for because I don’t prefer with Thai guy with the same reason with the other Thai girl who are deny Thai guy. Too much girls even have no performance to take care their family, selfish and try to be a leader even have no performance, not open mind etc.
But I don’t mean the western guys are excellent I also see some so stupid and really bad guy too. But my style is not similar to Thai guy anymore. I married with Thai guy 3 years before divorce , what’s I have after left him , just a debt and it’s not belong to me but I have to pay because of my believe in him (so pooring myself) no more with Thai guy.

Right now I use the service of Matchmaker company in Thailand but still not yet success but at least I can meet the nice guy even just be friends and here is more safety.

Find for true love is hard but I still try to find, once I will meet the right one.
Pass

I write again after reading all the comments, I can separate 2 types of opinions:

1) Thinking Thai girls marry with older foreigner because money.
2) Not base on money.

I am Thai girl with 37 years, divorced from Thai guy. I have the western guy and I will tell you the fact.
Both of your opinions are true, in this world have 2 types, good and bad peoples. Same there are bad Thai girl and good girl.

Thai girl who marry with foreigner they have their reason:

1) Concern to money, can separate two type
1.1 A poor girl in some place of Thailand , they really want money for their living life, they will do everything that you want for marry you because they want your support. And love will come the second reason. (almost of them low education). This type of girl is not expect just for the foreigner guy they also expect Thai rich guy but it’s more difficult to get because of high class Thai guy just a small group and they deny such girl since first.
1.2 An education girl, not poor, like me I have master degree I have high income I can take care myself. But I too tired with Thai guy, I have a western guy but I never ask them for money. But I don’t prefer a poor guy because I don’t want to support them. I want they can take care himself and help me sometime in emergency only. But don’t forget it’s very difficult in everywhere if you have no money. (this type of girl wants the nice life not only expect in your money).

2) Bad experience with Thai guy then interest in foreigner. This group of girls had marry or Thai boyfriend but upset because of many reasons then try with the different. And you have to know Thailand is conservative culture and also selfish too. It’s very difficult to get accept from Thai guy for divorced Thai girl. Because of Thai guy prefer virgin girl. And also the social quite not accept divorced girl. That’s why better with foreigner.

3) Too high education, high qualification for Thai guy can accept. This opinion may be get lots bad comment back from Thai guy who can not accept for the high performance of girl. Ha ha ha, right now Thai girls have high education and good work, income more than Thai guy. And they don’t want to get husband likes just brother or subordinate. So if they can not get the good qualification guy better be alone. And also Thai guy are not prefer a girl who high performance or clever than them. So the best this type of girl interest in the older foreigner who has high position or owner their business.

Above just my opinion may be right or wrong but I see Thai society from Thai vision. Welcome your opinion just write for share.

If you love to eat and you’re headed for Bangkok then you’re in for a treat. Seriously, I’ve eaten all over the world and the street food in Bangkok is my choice for the best anywhere (Mexico is a close second).

No matter where you go in Bangkok you’re sure to see local Thai’s sitting down on those little plastic stools by the road and enjoying some delicious dish with their friends. Everything from noodles to pork and chicken to seafood is on offer and all of it is quite delicious. Honestly my mouth is watering just thinking of it.

Thai Street Food Variety

One of the great things about street food in Bangkok and Thailand is the huge variety on offer. Regional foods from the deep south of Thailand such as spicy curries, northeastern salad dishes and Chinese roast duck and pork are just a few of the flavors to tempt you. Start with some grilled meats on a stick (satay), or a bowl of rice noodles. Fried rice in many varieties are available as well as fried chicken, grilled sausages, sticky rice, fresh fruits and even more exotic samplings like dancing shrimp or fried crickets can be had as well. If you’re hesitant about the unusual dishes try some khao man gai (chicken rice) or khao moo dang (red pork rice). Both are very standard dishes at Thai street vendors and both are extremely delicious. Finish it all off with fresh coconut ice cream or another Thai dessert, perhaps lod chong or salim.

Popular Locations for Bangkok Street Food

While you can find street food pretty much anywhere in Bangkok obviously some spots are going to be more accessible to you as a tourist. The following spots are popular with both Thai’s and tourists for the variety of foods available as well as their accessibility.

Rama IV – You’ll find street food vendors all along Rama IV, especially in the areas of Lumphini Park and Lumphini Boxing Stadium. Golf and I especially like those near the Boxing Stadium, down the small soi’s. The area really gets hopping in the late afternoon and you’ll find all kinds of great dishes here. Spicy som tam and laab from northern Thailand are popular as are desserts such as sticky rice and salim.

Silom Road – Another great place to find street vendors. Golf and I have two favorites in this area. The first are the street vendors along Soi Convent (near the Sala Daeng BTS station). You’ll find that the ones farther up the soi towards BNH hospital tend to be better. The second is a small street restaurant all the way at the end of Silom at the intersection of Silom and Charoen Krung. It is on the right side of the street across from the State Tower. Everything we’ve tried there is awesome. Finally, you’ll find quite a few vendors on Silom offering seafood, everything from fish to clams to oysters and prawns are available freshly cooked to your liking.

Khao San Road – Probably not the best quality street food, but it is cheap and usually satisfying. Plus, most Bangkok tourists seem to make it out this way at least once. The vendors on Khao San itself leave a bit to be desired, but some great dishes can be had in the surrounding areas. Cheap pad thai, grilled meats and kebabs and fruit is the top draw here.

RCA – This is one of the top nightclub areas of Bangkok so it’s not surprising to find a large variety of street vendors set up to feed the hungry party go’ers before and after their clubbing. The food is decent and available quite late at night so that’s a plus.

Chinatown – Obviously this comprises a huge area, but I’ve found that pretty much anywhere in Chinatown serves up really great street food. Yaowarat Road is a perfect start and if you don’t want to wander around Chinatown you won’t have to go any farther than that to get a great cheap street side meal. If you love food then you have to go to Chinatown for some of the best Chinese food you’ll ever get outside China and Hong Kong.

Rules For A Safe Bangkok Street Food Experience

While the streets of Bangkok may be dirty and the air filled with smog (although better than in the past), eating at a street vendor in Bangkok need not be a worrisome affair. Yes, you’ll see the food is unrefrigerated and there is typically a big wash bin of dirty plates next to the cart, but believe me when I tell you that eating from street vendors in Bangkok is quite safe.

I’ve eaten probably hundreds of meals at street vendors all over Bangkok and have only gotten sick once in 12 years. Honestly I don’t even believe that was from the street food, I think it was from Chao Phraya river water getting splashed into my face during a trip upriver to Koh Kred.

Simply follow these suggestions and you should be fine:

Go where everyone else is eating. The locals know the good food stalls and the ones that make them sick. If you follow the locals lead you should be fine.

Make sure the food is freshly prepared. The food should be freshly cooked and not look as if it’s been sitting around for hours.

Thai food is notoriously spicy and hot. If you don’t want too much heat then order your food “mai ped”. This means “not hot” and the chili’s will be left out. On the other hand if you think the hotter the better then order the food “ped mak mak”. This should get you food that is extra spicy although I have had mixed results. I think that some Thai’s don’t really believe that farang can eat spicy food so even if you order it extra spicy they make it “mai ped”.

If you do get sick get to an emergency room. The hospitals are very used to dealing with food poisoning and will sort you out quickly to get you healthy. Thai hospitals are very cheap compared with Western hospitals so don’t worry about the cost.

Bangkok street food is some of the best and cheapest food in the world and I have yet to find anyone who doesn’t like something on offer at the street vendors. The amazing variety combined with the delicious taste makes it an experienced not to be missed. So, next time you’re in Bangkok pull up a plastic stool by the side of the road and have yourself a feast!

Below you’ll find a list of International Schools in Thailand, complete as of November 2009. When I say complete I mean schools that are both accredited and have a web presence. For some reason I feel that in this 10th year of the 21st century a web presence is almost mandatory for an educational institution. Plus it makes contacting a researching the schools a bit easier for those of you not currently residing in Thailand.

Before you jump to the table I want to be sure that you know that in Thailand the term “International School” may be a bit misleading. While many of the schools listed have a majority of foreign students (non-Thai), some others may have very few foreign students and call themselves international because they follow an American or British curriculum and teach classes in English.

This is my first go at making a list of International Schools in Thailand and I believe that it is quite complete and provides a good resource both for prospective teachers and for prospective students. I found in my research that many of the lists on the internet are quite old and poorly maintained and I felt that there was a need for a current listing. Many of the lists that I found had dead links and even lists without website links or contact information other than addresses and phone numbers. If you have any corrections, additions or deletions for the list I would be happy to hear from you in the comments below.

Even one of the most informative lists I found, the one at the International Schools Association of Thailand (ISAT) website appeared to have outdated information, some of it as old as 3 years. That being said, the site does have a good list of schools and many of the same ones in my own list. ISAT membership was not a necessary criterion for being included on my list, it just seems that the schools that joined ISAT are among the top International Schools in Thailand. ISAT also includes a brief description of many of the schools (something I plan on adding in the coming months here) which can be helpful in narrowing down a list of potential educators or employers.

I hope that this list is useful for some of you, either in finding a school for your children or as a resource to locate employment as a teacher in Thailand. Consider it a good jumping off place to start your search. As I said, in the future I will give more detailed descriptions of each school (costs, teacher/student ratios, ESL programs, extra-curriculars, etc.) and also plan on including a map to show the location of International Schools within Bangkok (and possibly Chiang Mai).

This list took considerable time and effort to compile so please let me know if it was useful to you by leaving a comment :>)

This is a short list of Nursery schools and Kindergartens within Thailand that are considered “International”. There are many more Kindergartens and Preschools in Thailand (especially Bangkok) that call themselves International, however this is a shorter list of those that have good websites and good reviews throughout the internet from parents whose children have attended the schools. I feel confident that these are among the top nursery and Kindergartens in Thailand.

To get more information about International Kindergartens in Thailand you may want to consult the website of BAMBI (Bangkok Mothers and Babies International). This non-profit Bangkok based volunteer organization provides information, support and companionship for pregnant women and mothers of small children for the past 25 years. I’ve seen on other sites that the BAMBI site seems a bit incomplete, but I thought the site looked good and appears to be updated frequently. If you’re going to be in Bangkok with babies or small children I think they could be a valuable resource.

In a surprise announcement yesterday the Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen appointed Thaksin Shinawatra as economic advisor to Cambodia by royal decree. As I’m sure you know Mr. Shinawatra, a former Prime Minister of Thailand who was ousted in the 2006 coup, has been a fugitive from Thailand since fleeing in 2008 to avoid a 2 year jail sentence for using his political power to secure land deals.

This appointment could escalate tensions between Cambodia and Thailand. Relations have been strained over the past 18 months already due to a border dispute between the two countries involving possession of land around the Preah Vihear temple. Thailand is bound to ask Cambodia for exdradition of the former Prime Minister which Hun Sen has already vowed not to do.

On the other hand, I believe that this will play right into the hands of Thailand. In my opinion Thailand doesn’t really want Thaksin back in the country and imprisoned. He is much more valuable to them as a fugitive where they can play off the negative connotations of the fugitive condition and portray his supporters as illegitimate. Once Thaksin is caught and jailed he becomes something of a martyr and you can be sure his supporters will be enraged and will do nearly anything to secure his freedom.

As things stand Thailand keeps Thaksin at a distance from his supporters which keeps them from having a rallying point. Actually putting him in prison would make him an accessible symbol of the opposition and would likely spark off protests and rally’s by his supporters. Keeping him out of the country and yet close means he is less of a threat to Thailand stability.

I can’t be certain, but it seems to me that this latest ploy of Thaksin will play out to be a minor annoyance to the current Thai government and will quickly die away. As I said, they are happy to keep Thaksin out of the country and honestly have much greater problems to hold their attention. Hopefully tensions will not be increased with Cambodia and the Thai government can spend their time and effort improving the Thai economy and conditions for the Thai people.

The 2009 Miss International Queen was a huge success, having hundreds of spectators in attendance and reportedly millions of others tuning in via television. In the end the contest was won by Miss Haruna Ai of Japan. Everyone seemed to agree that her performance was one of the best they’ve seen in several years at the pageant.

Sunday October 31, 2009 [PDN]: – On a wonderful night at Pattaya’s Tiffany Theatre, Miss Haruna Ai was the stand-out contestant after a very entertaining event, to take out first prize with a stunning display enjoyed by all. The two runner-up awards went to Miss Kangsadal Wongdusadeekul, the Thai entrant and a Miss Daniela Marques, who is from Brazil. Both of the other two contestants performed admirably, however it was Miss Haruna Ai, who was just too special in the end, and deservedly received this year’s title.

Ladyboys or kathoeys as they are known in Thailand are people that were born as males, but choose to live their lives as females. While many never undergo surgical alteration, many of them do take female hormones and some do have breast implants or even go as far as having their reproductive organs surgically altered. Thai doctors perform more sex change operations than any other country in the world. Thailand is known as a popular place for ladyboys due to the easygoing attitudes and acceptance of the Thai’s to homosexuality and transgender people.

Below is the short story released by the National News Bureau of Thailand yesterday regarding the attempt to bring Americans back to Thailand. Since mid 2008 American tourism to Thailand has dropped by over half and this seems to be TAT’s response to the lack of American tourists in Thailand.

TAT Introducing Thai Tourism to Top American Media Purveyors

BANGKOK, 30 OCTOBER 2009 (National News Bureau of Thailand) – The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) has recently invited editors from leading magazines and newspapers in the United States to explore Thailand’s tourism products and services under the campaign “Bring the Cream of the Crop Media to Thailand.”

The trip lasted from 19-28 October with Deputy TAT Governor Juttaporn Rerngron-asa welcoming the guests at the Jim Thompson House in Bangkok. The American media group was taken on a tour of Jim Thompson’s house and various tourist destinations in Thailand including Chiang Mai, Phuket and Bangkok.

The TAT hopes the trip will help popularize tourist destinations in the country and encourage foreign tourists to return to Thailand. The campaign was created by the TAT office in New York City.

Will this attempt to lure Americans back to The Land of Smiles be successful? It is certainly necessary. While tourism figures are no longer published for the Kingdom of Thailand, by looking at the drop off in the 3rd and 4th quarters of 2008 (http://www.tourism.go.th/2009/th/statistic/tourism.php) we can pretty much figure what the current state of tourism is in Thailand.

Assuming that the media groups who attended the campaign make an effort to bring Thailand to the forefront of affluent Americans attention as a premier long haul destination then I think we will see a resurgence of interest in Thailand among Americans.

After all, it will take several months to a year for the stories and articles to be published and if the economy cooperates by improving during that time there is no reason that this cannot be a huge success. Add a concerted advertising campaign on the part of TAT and I would think that late 2010 and 2011 could see a huge spike in American tourists coming to Thailand.

What is in question in my mind is if they can actually pull it off. Thailand has been trying for years to market itself to a more affluent and upscale tourist and while there has been some success I think that the bulk of the Western tourists coming to Thailand are not in the 6 figure income bracket.

Do you think that Thailand can become successful in marketing it’s tourism industry as catering more to upscale tastes and needs?

Thailand is most affectionately known by many as The Land of Smiles and for good reason. It seems as if no matter where you go and who you talk to you get smiles a plenty from the local Thai’s. While this makes some people think that Thai people are just happy the truth is that Thai’s often smile for very different reasons.

A smile MAY convey happiness, but it may also signify something completely different. Understanding the different reasons for Thai smiles can sometimes help you transverse this strange, unique and compelling culture.

If you’ve spent a good bit of time in Thailand or living around Thai’s you can usually see the difference in Thai smiles quite easily and will know that just because the Thai is smiling it does not mean that he or she is happy. While Thai’s do smile when they are happy, they also smile when they are feeling a variety of negative emotions such as embarrassment, regret, confusion and even anger.

Obviously this can create some confusion in the mind of the Westerner who is used to seeing smiles indicate only happiness. Understanding that Thai’s place a high value on avoiding conflict and maintaining social harmony and you’ll begin to understand the reason why Thai’s smile even in (what Westerners perceive as) negative situations.

There are quite a few common reasons people smile in Thailand even when they are not happy. These include the following:

The “I’m sorry for the mistake” smile – This is commonly seen in restaurants or the like where a frustrated tourist may complain about the order only to get a smile in return from the server. Often this will make the customer more frustrated and angry as their perception is the server finds their frustration funny when really the Thai person has intended to apologize with their smile.

The “I don’t understand what the heck you’re talking about” smile – Another very common misperceived smile in restaurants and shops around Thailand. While many Thai’s speak English their command of the language varies greatly and this is compounded by the range of English accents and the speed at which many native English speakers speak.

The “I don’t know what to say” smile – Related to the “I don’t understand what the heck you’re talking about” smile, sometimes the Thai may not have the words in English to respond to your request. Or in some cases cultural inhibitions restrict them from having an answer that will satisfy their own mores and the foreigner’s expectations.

The “Whatever you say” smile – This really shouldn’t be that difficult to see as I feel that we have the same type of smile in Western culture. Usually it occurs when there is a difference of opinion that you are unable or unwilling to argue about. In the case of the Thai it is usually because they want to avoid conflict and will smile and do what you ask, even if they feel it is the wrong course of action for the situation.

The “I’m so embarrassed I want to disappear” smile – This smile will often appear as the result of a foreigners insulting tirade following the “I’m sorry for the mistake” smile. Of course it only serves to further enrage the foreigner and if they somehow don’t realize what is happening and calm down can be followed by the…

The “I’m so mad I can break your neck” smile – This can be a very dangerous smile and you should take the time to understand when it is happening. Thai’s do have great self control, however even non-confrontational people can be pushed too far. If you are receiving this smile the best course of action is to leave and rapidly. When Thai’s finally break they can go into an uncontrollable rage and to compound matters every Thai within hearing distance will come to help their fellow country man or woman.

Thailand is a popular destination for many travelers looking for adventure, cultural exploration, great natural wonders, partying, great food and shopping. The combination of all these attributes along with reasonable prices, warm weather year round and friendly Thai people makes it understandable why many people come to Thailand and fall in love with the country.

By understanding a little bit of the Thai culture before coming to Thailand you will enjoy your visit much more and could very likely end up being like many other past visitors to Thailand – returning frequently or even moving to The Land of Smiles.

Below are 12 of my picks for great hotels in Bangkok, ranging in price from moderate to luxury. Golf and I like to try different places every time we go to Bangkok so we’ve had the chance to experience many of the hotels Bangkok has to offer. All of these hotel picks are based on several factors including accessibility to easy transport via the Skytrain or the Chao Phraya and central locations close to major shopping and attractions (read Sukhumvit, Sathorn and Silom Rds.) Of course we also consider comfort, ambiance and customer service in our decisions.

De Moc Hotel
Price: From US$34 (includes breakfast)
Address: 78 Prajatipatai Rd., Pra Nakorn, Bangkok 10200, Thailand
Phone: 66-2-282-2833
No visit to Bangkok is complete without at least swinging by Khao San Road. This so called backpackers ghetto is a riot of noise, color and personality and is not to be missed in my opinion. Loads of pubs, clubs and restaurants in the area along with great people watching make Khao San a must. To be close to the action you’ll want to stay nearby (but not too close if you want to avoid the noise) and De Moc Hotel fills this role perfectly. It’s close and cheap and the rooms are clean and the staff helpful and friendly. It’s also close to famous tourist spots such as the Grand Palace, Temple of the Emerald Buddha, Temple of Dawn, Marble Temple and the Golden Teak Palace.
GET MORE INFO OR BOOK IT NOW

Baiyoke Sky Hotel
Price: From US$53
Address: 222 Rajprarop Rd, Rajthavee, Bangkok 10400, Thailand
Phone: 66-2-656-3000
The Baiyoke Sky Hotel is located right in the heart of Bangkok and is unique as being the tallest hotel in Bangkok. Visit the Sky Bar and observation deck for some of the most amazing views of Bangkok ever. Even if you’re not staying at the hotel it’s worth it to stop by the Sky Bar for the view alone.
Address: 3 Convent Road, Silom, Bangkok, Thailand
This small boutique hotel is located on Convent Road, just minutes from BNH Hospital and Silom Road. I like it for the close proximity to the Pat Pong night market and Sala Daeng BTS station. Since it is removed from Silom a bit it is still quiet and peaceful…an oasis from the heat and bustle of Bangkok.
We stayed here on our last trip to Bangkok and I was honestly blown away considering the location and price of the hotel. First off it’s a small boutique hotel which we like. The location is outstanding, just a couple blocks off Sukhumvit and a 90 second walk to the Nana Plaza BTS station. We loved the roof pool, but thought the gym was a bit small (but adequate). The staff were all friendly and the rooms were quite large including refrigerator, stove and washing machine. Definitely recommended.
If Chinatown and Chinese style is what you’re interested in then stay in the heart at the Shanghai Mansion. Décor is early 20th century Chinese and is so faithful you’ll feel as if you’ve stepped back in time the minute you step foot in the lobby. Added to the wonderful detail of the décor and furnishings is the attention to detail and attentiveness of the staff making this a top choice for Bangkok accommodations.
I don’t think that any discussion of Bangkok Hotels would be complete without including the Oriental. This is the very first hotel I stayed in when I arrived in Bangkok in 1997 so it holds a special place for me. Granted the price is high, but how often do you stay at one of the top hotels in all the world. Each room has its own personal butler and the rooms themselves are comtemporary, bright, airy and spacious. If you’re a foodie then you’re also in for a treat at the Oriental as they have 9 different restaurants and all of them are outstanding. Whether it’s La Normandie for classical French fare, Lord Jim’s for seafood or Sala Rim Naam for Thai food and classical Thai dancers you are guaranteed to have a glorious meal. Finally, don’t miss the Bamboo bar which has a great ambiance and is perfect for a dink before or after dinner or to start the evening.

So there you have it, 12 great hotels in Bangkok with prices ranging from $34-389 a night. They are located all over the city too so there should be one that fits both your price range and location needs. Obviously this is just a small sampling of ALL the hotels in Bangkok, but I think it is a pretty darn good sampling. If you’ve stayed at any of these hotels I’d love to hear about your experiences below. Or if you have any ideas for another hotel in Bangkok you think is excellent let me know about that as well.

One very noticeable facet of Thai society is the uniforms worn by every Thai student, both girls and boys, from the youngest right through university students. Of course for us guys the Thai schoolgirl uniforms can be seen as very attractive, however it seems as if old school Thai elders don’t agree. The following article was run yesterday in The Nation, Thailand’s largest business daily newspaper.

BANGKOK: — Chulalongkorn University (CU) is campaigning for students to comply with its dress code, while Thammasat University (TU) wants to the government to launch a “Social Cabinet” to tackle the issue of students wearing uniforms inappropriately.

At the project launch yesterday, CU rector Pirom Kamolratanakul said wearing a Chula student uniform, the only one to be granted by the monarchy, is a privilege.

TU deputy rector for student affairs Parinya Thewana-ruemitkul said the president for Network of Deputy Rectors for Student Affairs supervised the student uniform code at each university. He added that Thammasat was less strict about the uniform than some other universities, but insisted students wear “appropriate clothes” to classes.

Celebrities’ influence

Blaming the influence of fashions worn by movie and TV stars, he urged that a Social Cabinet comprising the efforts of several ministries should be set up to help universities solve the problem. The Culture Ministry could ask celebrities to wear clothes appropriate to the time of day and occasion as well as promote good values, he added.

Deputy Education Minister Chaiwuti Bannawat agreed that students need good discipline and praised universities’ successful efforts in improving the standard of their students’ dress.

– The Nation 2009-08-19

Ban Short Skirts?

Thai culture is grounded in conformity and part of that is the Thai school uniforms. No student should stand out from any other student. Do you think it is sufficient to simply monitor the student uniform code to maintain what is considered “appropriate” dress, or should the Thai school uniforms be scrapped altogether? In the 21st century is this type of standard a help or a hindrance to Thai society? Or maybe you think it makes no difference whatsoever to the actual education of the students. And what about enlisting the aid of celebrities, do you think this will help? Personally I think that oftentimes the celebrities dress may be determined by their PR people. In most cases celebrities are simply giving the people what they want to see.

Sound off below and let me know what you think about the standard Thai school dress code and the direction it seems to be taking.
