Dayton James Webber, a 27-year-old competitor in the American Cornhole League, has been accused of fatally shooting a man during an argument late Sunday night, according to authorities in Charles County.

Deadly Argument Inside a Moving Vehicle

Officials say the incident unfolded while Webber was driving with multiple passengers in the car.

During the drive, an argument broke out between Webber and a front-seat passenger, later identified as Bradrick Michael Wells. Investigators allege that Webber shot Wells during the dispute while the vehicle was still in motion.

Police were first alerted after witnesses flagged down officers from the La Plata Police Department seeking help.

Disturbing Details After the Shooting

According to the Charles County Sheriff’s Office, Webber pulled the vehicle over following the shooting and asked passengers in the back seat to help remove the victim from the car.

Those passengers reportedly refused, exited the vehicle, and left the scene.

Authorities say Webber then drove away with Wells still inside the car.

Body Discovered Hours Later

Roughly two hours after the initial incident, deputies located Wells’ body in a nearby yard. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators confirmed that Webber and Wells knew each other prior to the incident.

Arrest Made in Virginia

Detectives quickly obtained a warrant for Webber’s arrest.

Law enforcement tracked him to Charlottesville, Virginia, where his vehicle was located. Officers ultimately found Webber at a nearby hospital, where he had gone seeking treatment for a medical issue.

After being released, he was taken into custody and charged as a fugitive from justice. He is currently awaiting extradition back to Maryland.

Once returned, Webber is expected to face multiple charges, including first-degree murder and second-degree murder.

Webber is known in the cornhole community for his remarkable personal story.

He has been a quadruple amputee since infancy after surviving a severe blood infection at just 10 months old. Despite that, he rose to compete at a high level in the American Cornhole League, where he was previously described as an example of perseverance and determination.
