How many times have you been told, ‘You can’t do that!’ or ‘It cannot be done!’

As entrepreneurs and creative people, we are constantly pushing the boundaries – sometimes maybe too far.

In our minds, our goals are achievable, or plan is possible and our success – imminent. However, those around us may not see the same potential that we do.

This could be due to lack of knowledge, or it may just be that they have a different mindset. Either way, we are always going to come across people in our lives that will try to tell us that our dreams are impossible!

How We React Will Tell Us How Much We Believe In What We Are Chasing!

Let’s take a closer look at a couple of possible responses to ‘You can’t do that!’

Doubt

If you start to question yourself when someone tells you what you are trying to achieve is impossible, then maybe you yourself do not believe that you can do it! This doesn’t mean what you are doing is unattainable, it just means that maybe you should take some time to consider whether you are heading in the right direction.

As soon as you are certain, back yourself and chase your dream!

Defensive

However, maybe you would be more inclined to reply with ‘who are you to tell me what I can or cannot do?‘

I find that when people jump on the defensive, it usually means that the are either insecure or immature (or both). The insecure person’s reaction is usually derived from lack of confidence, whereas the immature becomes defensive because they get offended that someone has challenged their dreams.

Both insecurity and immaturity provide a hurdle for you to overcome, and have the ability to stop you from achieving your dreams.

Confidence

When you know what you want and are willing to do what it takes to achieve that goal you are chasing, then a certain confidence comes over you. While you still make the decision to ignore the negative comments of those around you – you are not defensive. Instead, you realise that people will always have their opinions , but you believe in your goal and that is all that matters.

So How Much Do You Believe In Yourself?

Are you ready to back yourself when you face opposition and criticism?

If you are pursuing something then you are bound to attract criticism. How you handle that criticism should show you not only how much you believe in your dream, but also how much you believe in yourself.

So how would you respond to ‘You can do that!’?

Now, I will admit that it’s a long time for a blog to go without a post but I’m not going to apologise for it.

There have been a number of reasons which I could put down not posting to but ultimately it came down to me wanting a holiday from blogging. Whilst I enjoy blogging when I get in to the ‘groove’, when you don’t feel enthusiastic about your website it just becomes a choir.

I find that when this happens, it is reflected in the content; almost as if you’re pushing out the words rather than letting them flow naturally. Producing content, for me, is about making it as good as you can, and recently I haven’t been able to do that.

So, where have I actually been?

Like I say, I took a break from blogging. When it comes down to it, blogging doesn’t really give me anything… OK, I enjoy doing it most the time, but in terms of actual reward it is very little. It’s because of this that blogging isn’t top of my priorities, with things such as family’n’friends, sport and college work coming before it.

I think that this is something that a lot of bloggers forget, especially those who are ‘breaking through’ and don’t really earn much from blogging. It’s not going to kill your blog if you take a few days break every now and then, but it might kill you. I was running myself down with all my different activities and something had to give; unfortunately it was my blogging – but now I feel re-energised to come back and start posting quality content once again.

The question I want to ask bloggers with this post is simple: ‘why not have a break?!’.

How Taking A Break Helped Me

Re-focus – Taking a break helped me to take a step back and look at the ‘bigger picture’ this blog comes under. How can I carry on improving? What can I do to make my content more exciting? What should I be doing which I’m not already? Obviously these are only three questions, but answering them has helped me to decide on how I’m going to make Teenius bigger and better than ever before… give it a try!

Re-energise – As I mentioned before, I was really drained. College was taking a lot of effort, as was my gym work and other sports I do. Blogging is something I do as a hobby (as I think it is for most other bloggers), so it’s not the end of the world if you miss a few post schedules. Never forget that, if blogging is a hobby to you too, it’s not worth making yourself miserable for!

Time away from the computer – We all know that if you spend too much time in front of a screen, it can be unhealthy. A lot of the time spent at my computer is used blogging, so just by having a week or two break I’ve dramatically reduced my time on the computer which can only be a good thing!

It’s not as bad as you think!

One fear that a lot of bloggers will have about leaving their blog is that the traffic will fall, so let me tell you a bit about what I’ve found:

Traffic was maintained! – Much to my surprise, my traffic didn’t drop off too dramatically. I saw a drop of about 50% on the lowest day (compared to my average when I was posting constantly), but generally I’ve only been losing 10% of readers, if that! It’s really not as bad as many make it out to be.

Posting schedules – I know many have an intended posting schedule… I know I do! However, it’s major inconsistency that ruins a schedule, not just the odd lapse. As long as you stick to the schedule in general, it doesn’t matter if you bend it every now and again.

So, what’s stopping you?

What’s stopping you from taking a break? After all, as I’ve said, it could even benefit your blog! I know this will make an interesting discussion, so I’d love to hear your views on the topic below.

WILL YOU BE TAKING A HOLIDAY FROM BLOGGING SOON?!

A Great Life Philosophy

The main idea of this article is about using life philosophy in blogging activities. The life philosophy that I write in this article is that “we can not change the past and the future; we only can do something in our present time”. The past already happened and the future is surely a mystery. Therefore, we only can do whatever we must do in our present time. We can do nothing in past and future but we always can do what it is needed in our present time. Therefore, we must do our best in our present time to make better our past and future story. This is a philosophy that I use in my life. As I know, this philosophy was taught by many spiritual leaders in this world such as Buddha, Jesus, Mohammed, and many others. I, my self, learn this philosophy in some of Buddha story book, and find it in other religion book later.

Use Life Philosophy in Blogging Activities

I use the life philosophy (which I’ve already told above) in many aspects of my life. And of course, I use it for my blogging activities too. Yes, I use it in Online Knowledge blog. Base on this life philosophy which tells us that we can only control the present and we surely can not control the past and the future, I always do something that is needed by Online Knowledge blog in present time. I make same preparation to this blog in present time so it can anticipate if something wrong happen with it in the future. That so, I will not have something to regret for my past in future as well as I already prepare for future if something bad happen with this blog.

You must be already aware by my previous explanation in first paragraph that the past and future create by the present. It inspires me to what I do for this blog. I prepare some insurance to this blog by backup all needed data of this blog in present time. So, if there is something bad happen to this blog, I always can revive it in no time. I call it as blog disaster recovery system. The good blog discovery system creation is best example how I use my above life philosophy in my blogging activities. I do the best that I can do in present time according this blog. So, I will never regret why I did not prepare before if this blog face the problem in future.

My way to prepare if something bad happen to this blog is quite simple. I always write the content in Microsoft office and save the content in my laptop before insert it in the blog. It makes that I have backup for all content of online knowledge blog. So, if some content miss, I can recover it in no time. I just post it again from my Microsoft Office file. I am sure this way of backup already did by almost all of blogger. It is the normal and easy way to have the content backup. But, the content backup alone is not enough as disaster recovery system for our blog.

It is because it will need very long time to recover if all content miss. And also there are many things that we can not recover by this simple content backup only. We must also backup the blog database for better recovery result in future. Blog database is very important for our blog. There are many important information of our blog that saves in blog database. If we use Wordpress.org, We can use “WP-DB-Backup” plugins as database backup tools. This plugin make the database backup in really easy and flexible way. Use “WP-DB-Backup” WordPress plugin is not the only the way. We can always use manual database backup way such as trough phpmyadmin or directly use MySQL if database use MySQL.

Conclusion

“We can not change the past and the future; we only can do something in our present time” is a great life philosophy that teaches by so many well known spiritual leaders. This life philosophy tell us as blogger to always do preparation for our blog in our present time, so there are no bad story for our past and we do not regret any thing in future when our blog face something bad. The easiest preparation is to backup all needed data of our blog.

That’s all the update this time, wait for the next updates!

It restricts the length of your messages, its home to thousands of webmasters and it doesn’t have teenage girls whining about how much they love Twilight. Whilst this could be seen as a refreshing change, the micro-blogging service still isn’t the best… infact, it has several major flaws.

Spam

I’ll start with the obvious. Spammers are a big problem on Twitter; whether it’s white teeth or bulging biceps you want, there’s probably hundreds of people on Twitter dedicating their page to the adverts. I can’t remember the last time I logged on to Facebook to see that one of my ‘friends’ was informing me of a magic new way to make a living online… can you?!

The Staff

Twitter is one of the most popular websites in the world and employs over 150 of the most intelligent nerds on Earth, yet they seem to be incapable of monetising the site effectively! Myspace made nearly $500 million in 2009 whilst Twitter can only dream of making a fraction of that at the moment.

Negative Public Image

Whilst those ‘in the know’ are aware that there’s more to Twitter than pointless ramblings, the general public think otherwise. Funnily enough, my Gran heard about Twitter on the news and was moaning to me about how it was utterly useless, asking me why anyone would waste their life just updating their followers on what they’re doing. You simply don’t get this with other social networking sites, so why Twitter?

Growth is limited

OK, so Twitter is apparently gaining more and more users, but will it ever be as big as the likes of Facebook and Myspace? In my opinion, no. I say this partly down to the negative public image I just discussed and partly down to the fact that it’s lacking something. Lets take Facebook for instance… it’s more than just status updates; there’s apps, the ability to upload photos, fan pages and so much more, but Twitter just seems to lack these extra features.

And finally…

Ricky Gervais doesn’t like it and, if we believe what the English born comedian says, what he says goes.

How about you?
Personally, I’m a big fan of Twitter but it does have some massive flaws. What don’t you like about Twitter? What would you improve? How would you suggest monetising the site? As always, I’d love to hear your views on this article!

If you haven’t heard the latest news, then you aren’t aware of how powerful guest posting can be for your blog. If someone held a gun to my head and made me choose one marketing strategy for my blog, I would go with guest posting.

I know, I know, social media is right up there, but somehow I feel more love towards guest posting. It is its own kind of social media, because when you guest post, you get to know the author of the blog, so it’s old school getting-to-know-someone stuff.

I’ve talked to many bloggers in the short time I’ve been blogging. One of the patterns I’ve noticed is the fear of guest posting. Bloggers are scrambling to do anything but guest post, because it puts their writing on the line. What if someone doesn’t like your prose? What then? Does the world end? It certainly might.

But don’t worry about me. If the world ends because you wrote a guest post that got rejected, I’m with you the whole way to hell, where we’ll at least dominate that part of reality. Sound good? Alright, let’s get started on how you can actually overcome this fear you think you have.

How to Destroy Your Fear – 3 Amazing Tips

Destroying fear is pretty easy when you realize that fear is nothing but a small child putting on a strong front. In other words: fear is that thing in your dreams that chases you, but when you turn around it turns into a kitten. How lame is that? That’s what you’re dealing with here. Let’s check out ways to kick this kitten somewhere else.

1. Pretend. One of the ways I got published on a big blog was that I didn’t even know I was writing a guest post. I originally intended the article to be for my blog, but somewhere I took a wrong turn and it ended up being an awesome post about how to get over writer’s block, so I decided to submit it to Write to Done, and lo and behold, it got accepted. Pretending is not only for children, it’s for adults too!

2. Just do it. Fear tends to go away when you confront it over and over again. Start writing guest posts for smaller blogs, because let’s face it, they aren’t as scary, are they? Work your way up from there to the big league. Set a schedule where you write a set amount of guest posts each week and get into a groove. It will help. Guaranteed, or your imaginary money back.

3. Use Magic. Today, I choose to call things such as Emotional Freedom Techniques, the Sedona Method and Neuro-Linguistic Programming magic, because they can be so effective that it almost seems like Santa Claus himself made an appearance and eliminated your fears. On a serious note though, I use Emotional Freedom Techniques and the Sedona Method on a daily basis to neutralize bad feelings, so you might want to check them out.

The Truth About Fear

Fear is a part of our lives. Everyone deals with fear. The difference between those that are successful and those that are not, is that the successful people are willing to face their fears over and over again.

Do you want your blog to get more traffic, subscribers and loyal fans? It’s not easy, but once you realize that fear is just a little kitten with some special effects making it look scary, you’ll have much more fun facing your fear and getting stuff done.

The post I’d seen revealed some of his secrets for getting over 200,000 visitors in his blog’s first year. I started reading more of his stuff and, not only does he produce some great articles on his blog, he’s also very ‘community spirited’. He attends the monthly London Bloggers meeting, and has recently been featured in a list on Problogger naming bloggers to follow in 2010.

I believe that this is as much of an introduction to basically say that Marko is a great blogger with a lot going for him, so when he accepted the interview invitation I was thrilled!

The Interview

Firstly, please could you tell the readers a bit about yourself and your blog? When and why did you start blogging?
My name is Marko Saric, I live in London, UK and I blog about all things blogging at HowToMakeMyBlog.com. I started creating and marketing websites in late 1990’s but it was somewhere around 2006 that I noticed the web 2.0 trend and started transferring my static HTML sites to blogging platforms. That is how I got into WordPress and blogging and that is why I started howtomakemyblog.com in late 2008.

I’ve seen some videos of you speaking at blogging events, so you obviously attend them. Would you recommend other bloggers to attend blogging conferences?
Definitely. Any kind of event thta you can attend around your city where you can meet people relevant to your blog is a great way to spread the word but also to make connections and build relationships with people you can later do more advanced business with. A site like meetup.com is a perfect start to find free to attend events around your area. See more tips on how you can use offline events to improve your blog.

You’ve also released a Twitter ebook. Care to tell the Teenius readers a bit about this ebook?
My book is about all things marketing on Twitter. Twitter is a top source of my traffic alongside Google and it is a platform that all bloggers should try out to see if it is possible to drive traffic and build relationships there even in your field. So I have collected all my tips about how to do everything from day one until you start getting lots of traffic from Twitter. I have just released edition 2.0 of the book, it is $19.95 and can be found here.

Your blog, HowToMakeMyBlog.com has a fair bit of authority as well as you being listed in several ‘ones to watch in 2010’ lists. Briefly, how do you think you’ve managed to get that much success?
Hmm there are many things to it. One is writing great articles that help your audience. Two is being consistent and consistently producing great articles. Three is getting out there and actively promoting your articles instead of waiting for people to passively stop by your blog. Those are the 3 steps that can make anyone in any field a very succesfull blogger.

What three tips would you give a blogger who runs a blog with low traffic and wants to start making their blog bigger and better?
Kind of similar to the answer above. Start writing great content. Make sure to present it great also. Have a nice design, have a great header image, use pictures in article, make articles ver yscannable with paragraphs and subheadings and make it easy to share. Write great content consistently, let us say 3 times a week. Do this, without missing a week, and do it for some 6 months as minimum. And every time you post something, go to other releavnt blogs, go to Twitter, go to StumbleUpon, go to Facebook or whatever else place your audience hangs out on and help them out and showcase your value.

Is there anyone you’d like to thank for helping you get to where you are now? Or any worthwhile links that you’d like to share?
I have actually just written a post on all those blog articles that have inspired me to grow my blog, so I think that is the place to look. 90 articles from a variety of great blogs from al laround the world and many different niches. See here for the link.

There were some extremely high quality entries including some really in-depth tips, making the comment section an absolute pleasure to read.

However, Jordan Cooper and I have chosen our favourite entries:

Jordan’s Choice

Lets start off with the choice of the “guest judge”. To quickly introduce Jordan, he’s a blogger from NotAProBlog.com who I recently interviewed.

He chose an entry from Ruth, which you can see below:

My single biggest tip would be not to give up. I’ve felt like giving up at times, but carrying on has helped me to learn new skills, to learn about the way I work, and to meet people I’d never have had the chance to otherwise.

Jordan liked this entry as it ‘encapsulates everything all in one concept‘. He added that this tip was great because ‘by not giving up, you’ll eventually learn all the skills, meet all the people, learn how you work and so on…

My Choice

My favourite comment is from Liane, and can be read here:

the ultimate blogging tip is about constant innovation. It’s not just about writing on a regular basis, it should go to a progression of a small goal to a bigger goal. That is, to constantly challenge oneself.

The reason why I like this tip is simple… it’s really important to keep driving yourself forward. Never be happy with your blog. You need to always be improving it, seeing if you can find some extra commentors or scrape a few more dollars out of it. There’s always a way to improve!

Once again, I’d like to thank everyone for entering this contest. Hopefully we can all look back on it and see some great blogging tips!

See how you can guest post on Teenius.

When it comes to making a success of yourself on the internet, whether that means making some money or just writing a blog that actually has readers, a positive mindset it crucial. But in my personal experience, if you can translate that positive mindset into the words you write and the way you interact with other bloggers you’ll do a lot better. Here are seven reasons why:

1) Attract Likeminded People / Make New Friends

Firstly, if your blog is primarily positive, you’ll attract likeminded people. I love interacting with friendly, positive bloggers, and knowing people like that helps to push me forward. Nobody can avoid attracting negative people and negative comments from time to time, but your real online friends will help remind you what’s important.

2) Increase Your Readership

Who wants to keep going back to read a grumpy old blogger’s rants? True, there may be times when taking the role of the ‘grumpy’ blogger could make you stand out, but generally people will want to visit bloggers who are happy, upbeat and can inspire action with some positive writing.

3) Learn To Show off the Best Side of You

By telling you to be a positive blogger I certainly don’t mean trying to be someone you’re not. Showing off your own unique style is so important when it comes to blogging, but by thinking about what you’re writing, and trying to stay positive at all times, you’ll be showing off the very best side of yourself.

4) You’ll Be Motivated to Succeed

Even the most positive and upbeat blogger will have times that they think ‘am I getting anywhere?’ You might feel like giving up, but often half an hour spent writing from a positive perspective is enough to change your mindset around and get you back on track to meet your goals. And you’ll probably end up realising that things weren’t as bad as you thought!

5) Your Passion Will Show Through

Being positive doesn’t just mean ‘looking on the bright side of life’, it also means finding things to blog about that you actually enjoy. By choosing the positive side of yourself, the passion for what you’re writing will show through and your blog will only improve.

6) Challenge Yourself

Sometimes writing positive comments or helping people out comes very easily to me, but at others it doesn’t, and I just want to complain! Whilst that mood may show through in my online adventures from time to time, I usually tell myself to just stop complaining, and only write if I have something positive to say. More often than not there will be a positive spin that you can put on any situation, and you’ll be challenging yourself to be a better writer to find out how to convey that.

7) Help Others and You’ll Help Yourself

Being positive isn’t just limited to writing in a positive way. You might want to help people by replying to any questions they have, helping them out and pointing them in the right direction for their own endeavours. I try to do this wherever I can and, whilst some people will never thank you for it, most people are grateful and appreciate what you’ve done. On top of that, your positivity might even inspire others to do good! Don’t just do things because you expect others to reciprocate – but be a positive blogger and you’ll reap the rewards eventually.

In that time, there’s been well over 3,000 comments, just under 80,000 words published and around 100,000 words in the comments (not including my own). There have also been twenty guest posts and six interviews published.

Sorry for the “bragging”, but I just wanted to try and highlight the importance of the reader and how much they contribute to the success or failure of a blog. So, for that, I’d like to thank anyone and everyone who has posted a comment, linked here, retweeted me, guest posted, stumbled me or simply visited this blog. I won’t get all sentimental on you, but it means a lot!

In the time which this blog has been up, since March 2009, and more recently in particular, I’ve tried to focus this blog around different tips to help others improve their blogs.

Wait! You mentioned cash in the title!

Yes; to celebrate Teenius ‘100th post birthday’ I will be giving away some cash to the people who can provide the most useful blogging tips.

To enter, it is quite simple. Just post your best blogging tip in the comment section of this post. You don’t have to write an essay; just write whatever is sufficient to make your point useful to other bloggers.

Then, on the 23rd of January, me and another blogger will decide on our favourite two tips. The authors of those tips will win $15 via Paypal each.

Sounds easy… what’s the catch?

This contest is all about sharing blogging tips and helping each other as bloggers. Hopefully, we can all learn something from this contest (myself included). To make sure that all my readers can benefit from the tips, I may take inspiration from the comments to create posts, but in that case the blogger who posts the tip will get a linkback to their website.

There’s the catch for you… more exposure to you AS WELL as the money at stake!

There is no restriction on the advice you give, as long as it’s related to blogging. Therefore, it could be to do with writing great content, traffic building, monetisation, brand building… anything! As long as it helps other people to make their blog “better”, that’s fine!

Remember to submit your best blogging tip by midday (GMT) on the 23rd January. If you win, I’ll contact you on the email you used to win the comment, as well as publishing the winners in a post.
It’d be really appreciated if you could tweet about this contest so that we can get more blogging tips going and make this a useful resource for bloggers.

At the time he was asking for a critique of his new website, NotAProBlog.com. I checked it out and really liked what I saw: a critical and rather sarcastic view of blogging. Since then I’ve been hooked on Jordan and his blog, and I’m sure after reading the interview and seeing his site, you will be too!

The Interview

Hi Jordan, and thanks for the interview. Firstly, could you tell the readers a bit about yourself?
Hey everyone out there, I’m Jordan Cooper. That’s Jordan with an “A” not an “O”. Although you can probably see that already. Unless the font size is too small. You should tell Simon to change his typography then. Or you can cut and paste this interview into your favorite text editor and make it look whatever way you want. In any case, it’s an “A”, not an “O”. A-ok?

And your blog?
Oh yeah, the place where no one visits. Not A Pro Blog. It’s just a blog where I write stuff and talk about things. Sometimes though I just write things and talk about stuff. You know what I mean, Simon? You have to mix it up sometimes.

Definitely. The thing I love most about your blog is the fact you attach a video post to the articles. Could you talk us through why you do the videos rather than just purely text-based articles?
I’m lazy. Really, that’s the reason. It takes so much longer to write things down. Did you realize the alphabet has almost 26 letters in it? I don’t have time to sort through them all and place them in the correct order. That’s why I do video. No letters.

Haha, fair enough! For someone who was interested in giving video blogging a go on their blog, what advice would you give them?
Definitely get a webcam. I’ve actually been video blogging for about 6 years, but I didn’t get much success at it until I used a camera.

From reading your about page (and indeed talking to you), you’re a funny guy. Do you reckon that helps you as a blogger, and what would you say about people using their personality in blog posts?
I would hope they don’t. It’s the only thing that’s keeping me afloat right now. You’d see how unfunny I was if others began to do it. Yeah, imagine if everyone started having their own unique opinions on issues… how would we know who’s content to regurgitate?

As a follower of yours on Twitter, you definitely use it a lot to retweet other bloggers posts which you’re reading. What’s your reasoning behind doing this, and would you say it helps your blogging?
Like I said before, I’m lazy. I figure instead of even bothering to make a video or write about the same thing, I’ll just let my follower get it right from the source. They see it’s from me, so I’m building brand recognition there. Oh, and it totally helps my blogging… I can retweet so many more blog posts than I can produce myself. That’s why I’m on Twitter all day. I only have two columns though. One for users who haven’t blocked me yet. The other for you, Simon.

You obviously visit a lot of sites. Which are the ones that stand out as your favourites, and why?
3 blogs I enjoy reading now… CatsWhoBlog.com – RobbSutton.com – SiteSketch101.com. I’m not sure why. I downloaded their free eBook a while back and now I think I’m just drawn to them. Maybe it’s fate. I don’t know… It’s like God is giving me a sign since every e-mail I get in my inbox seems to have a link to them in it.

Another is the Firefox start page. Although they don’t put up new content often.

Is there anyone you’d like to thank or mention?
Nope.

Over to you…

Had you heard of Jordan before? What do you think of his blog? Would you like to add anything to the interview?

As always, I’d love to hear your thoughts as well as any further questions you may have for Jordan. Also, don’t forget to tweet this interview!
