After going through that procedure I realized that the time taken to first separately copy images then paste them together could be saved if somehow I converted the whole webpage into an image-like format. Of course, doing this in regular image formats (JPG or PNG) might result in a very large image file. After doing a bit of searching I concluded the best format would be PDF which, while maintaining a small size, would not compromise the visual quality of the webpage.

I already have a ‘PDF Printer’ installed on my computer so all I had to do was print the webpage using it. But this method would not be viable if I was using somebody else’s computer which did not have this printer installed. So after doing a bit of searching I came across the perfect solution to my problem: PdfMyURL.

PdfMyURL is a simple-to-use free website that converts whatever URL you give it into a downloadable PDF file. All I had to do was open up the webpage, paste in the XKCD URL in the designated area, and click on the orange ‘P’ button to the right. My URL was almost instantly converted into a PDF and a download confirmation appeared which let me download my PDF file.

The site names our output file <”URL-we-enter”.pdf>. The resultant file size of course depends on the size of the webpage.

PdfMyURL is a wonderful way to get our webpages in PDF files which can then be emailed to friends or shown to people on our computers or cellphone offline.

1. TweetMyPC

TweetMyPC is an amazingly innovative piece of freeware compatible with Windows operating systems. Once installed, you can associate the application with a Twitter account; the application will timely check for any Tweets on your account if any Tweet has some command in it, it will be executed on your PC. For example you can Tweet “Lock” to remotely lock your PC, or “Download ” to remotely download a file to your PC. There also is an option to associate TweetMyPC with a Gmail account. For security reasons, it would be best to create a new Twitter/Gmail account especially for this application.

2. LogMeInFree

LogMeInFree is a freeware program which lets you access a remote computer with your internet browser. Before downloading the application you setup a username and password (which will be used to access your computer) and then select the PC or Mac version to download. Remember that in order to use LogMeInFree (or any other remote connection software), your host PC should be always on with this application always running.

3. RemoteByMail

RemoteByMail is a free software for Windows that lets a user communicate with his/her computer via emails. RemoteByMail accepts and sends information to via email to email accounts specified by the user. The emails that work with this application need to be POP enabled (Gmail, for example). We can set the time after which our account is checked for new emails. The program has its own set of commands such as “DIR” for obtaining a directory and “ZEND” for sending a file after compressing it in a ZIP file.

Those questions entered the mind of one Chrome extensions developer and he/she created what we know as YouSearch.

YouSearch is an amazingly innovative extension for the Google Chrome browser that seamlessly integrates YouTube with Chrome. Firstly, after installing the extension you will notice a new icon with the YS in Chrome’s address bar.

When this icon is clicked, a search box appears as shown in the image below:

With this search bar, we can search for YouTube videos without leaving our current webpage. This search bar is actually sort of a YouTube search engine. The results are shown neatly in the same window. I searched for one of my longtime favorite bands, Joy Division and such was the image of my results:

Our webpage is still open and the information on it can be easily viewed. To play a video, we simply click on a search result and it will start playing in the same drop down window:

One shortcoming that I observed was that when the open webpage was clicked or another window opened, the browsing data in the extension would be lost. So if a video is loading and you leave the Chrome window (open some other window) you will have to start over with the search.

If the developer succeeds to recognize this hole and remedies it, then this extension will surely be the best one facilitating Chrome YouTube users.

Video chatting has been very simple by eBuddy; all one has to do is plug in the webcam and click on the video chat button. Multiple accounts can be accessed in the same eBuddy window. Developers of new items focus on how their product can help the user get more out of their time. Time-saving machines are now worked upon to be even more time-efficient. Considering the field of personal computers, we see that new software is constantly being made to speed up the functions our computer systems perform. Google has not been far behind in this field and has introduced its very own freeware programs’ package titled GOOGLE PACK.

Google Pack is a free installer for Windows operating systems; it offers the same function described above: users can check the software they want downloaded and installed in one go, then download a single installer for all their applications. The Pack includes only freeware programs. Currently this list of freeware is not as wide as one would desire it to be however it is constantly being expanded.
