Tarot cards have been used for centuries to foretell how a persons life will turn out or how a certain event will come to pass in the future. Now more than ever, the tarot is being used as a divination tool for psychic readings.

Here are a few facts on the meaning of some of the tarot cards.

- The 2 of Cups: The Tarot can sense when love is near. The 3 of cups means a wedding or happy celebration is at hand. The Ace of cups when it appears with other relationship cards may mean the beginning of a new romantic relationship, or the renewal of an old relationship is on the horizon.

The 9 of cups, 4 of wands, and even The Sun in the right place in a spread, point to love. The biggest signal that love is close is the 2 of cups.

- The Lovers Card: This card may indicate a relationship, but all is not rosy. The Lovers card indicates that a decision regarding a relationship needs to be made.

- The Death Card: This card does not indicate that you will die soon, but rather that an old way of life is passing away to make room for a new chapter, a change in the way you look at things, a change in living arrangements, or a relationship of some kind is coming to an end.

This is a good thing and you must give up the old so that the new can manifest in your life. Death is always the harbinger of new life.

- The Tower: Indicates an upheaval in your life that has already happened and is over now. You may still be suffering from the incident, but the tower tells you that it is time to begin building a new foundation to rebuild a better life, relationship or whatever you have lost.

- The Knights: Wherever a knight appears there is action, activity, and drama. Not all of the knights of the Tarot tell of the same type of event. If the knight of cups appears in your spread, for the most part, you will be swept off your feet by a romantic, sensitive man or woman. This may be the one.

The knight of swords may not mean to but he will bring chaos and pain in your life. The good news is that he will not stay long, but you will be left to straighten things out. The Knight of Wands loves to rescue a damsel in distress. If you are a man and this card comes up in your reading it can mean that you have the same qualities.

This guy is honest and always sees the glass as half full. If a girl gets this card after a question about the fella she is currently with, know that he is not cheating on you. The Knight of Coins (Pentacles) Is a bit of a workaholic but does not ignore his family.

He is always concerned about taking care if his duties, especially when he can help and provide for others. He is a planner and a thinker and is not hasty with a decision.

A knight in your reading may also mean that you have the same trait in yourself, may be a suggestion to use that part of yourself to overcome an obstacle, or an emotional or travel- related movement that is worth considering. Knights may depict a man or a woman with certain qualities.

Tarot card meanings and interpretations are based on numerology, the elements; spiritual, emotional, mental and physical processes and of course the drawing and placement of the cards.

The elements or suits within the tarot still exist in modern playing cards. The pips of diamonds, spades, clubs and hearts can be expressed as earth, air, fire and water.

Or to bring it into our modern worlds, money, mind, intent and emotion. This then can be related to business, thoughts, transformations and love.

In an older world and another time, these four elements also contained wisdom of disposing the dead, the seasons, times of day and life ages. Christian orthodoxy also incorporated this with

1)the chalice of the last supper,
2)the wooden lance St. Longinus used to pierce Jesus’ side,
3)the round platter from which the disciples ate the paschal lamb and
4)King David’s “Sword of the Spirit.”

The meaning of Tarot cards is universally consistent and lends credibility to this ancient oracle. The soul lives in images. The soul nourishes itself on images. A picture speaks a thousand words. The cards depict the levels of human consciousness, the first awakening, up to divine All-consciousness, to union with Spirit. The tarot comprises seventy-eight cards. Of these 56 are the lesser or minor trumps, keys or arcarna.

The origin of the word “Tarot” remains unknown and so does the origin of the cards themselves. The first documentary evidence of Tarot is 1442. A reference to “trump” cards is made in an account book from the court at Ferrara, in Italy. But they are much older. It is impossible to find a period in time when these images were not known.

Sometimes they were found as murals, sometimes as sculptures of stone or as terracotta tablets. Wherever they have been discovered, their resemblance is so striking; a common source seeding global knowledge is indisputable.

ROTE TARO ORAT TORA ATOR

The Wheel of Tarot, speaks the Law of Life. The letters of Tarot can be interchanged to create several meanings. “Tora” is Hebrew for Law, “Rota” is Latin for Wheel; “Ator” is a form of Hathor, an Egyptian goddess interchanged with Isis.

Another connection is the sacred mound of “Tara” in Ireland. Also “Tara” is the mother of Buddha. The great fertility goddess of Syria and Persia is one of sensuality and known as “AsTAROTh”.

The Egyptian god “Thoth” (thus the Tarot’s name as The Book of Thoth) may have given us the Tarot. Within the Egyptian language; “tar” means road or way and “Ro”, king or royal, thus the Tarot translates as the royal road.

The word Truth, Terra (meaning earth), Tantra and even The Tao are suggested deviations of word TAROT. In Ireland, the legendary “people of the goddess DANA”,(Tuatha De Danann) spoke of four magical treasures; a cauldron, spear, stone and sword. Similar symbols are found in Hindu art; the cup, the scepter, ring and sword.

The Greek goddess of Fate herself, Nemesis, symbols included a cup, a wand of apple-wood, a wheel and a sword. The cards may have been the original “elf books” given to humans by fairies to people they loved, which enabled them to foretell the future.

From ancient times to the present; people have sought to understand the present and foresee the future. It is clear, people continue to feel the need for supernatural guidance and seek out those with true vision and good counseling skills.

Shannon Holloway-Esmeralda (SHE) is a renown Tarot Reader from Australia. SHE comes from a long line of Tarot Readers who received her first Tarot Deck at 16 and has been reading cards ever since.

As we enter into studying the Tarot in depth, we must look from every angle and element of the cards to more fully understand the underlying meaning.

Each card depicts various symbols within each card. These represent the elements, directions, planetary influences and energies present in our lives through the people we interact and share our lives with.

They represent every aspect on every level of our beingness. The phases, patterns, cycles, seasons; everything within our lives from love to money to our spiritual paths can be denoted in the various symbols of the Tarot cards.

Each card paints a picturesque view reflecting our emotional, mental, physical and spiritual happenings. It is our job as the reader to open our minds and accurately access the information available to us hidden within the cards.

Look at every aspect and overlook nothing, as each minute detail can be a significant element in the overall scheme of things. This is where the use of pen and paper or notepad (or any other text editor) on your personal computer can come in handy and be beneficial. Keeping track of these signs and symbols will greatly help memorize and quickly identify them at a glance; speeding up the process of interpreting them.

Research the various symbols’ meaning to gain greater perspective of the overall meaning associated with each card. The Internet is filled with tons of valuable information pertaining to symbolism; so check out various outlooks, belief systems and cultural viewpoints to each one to provide yourself with a multitude of possible associations.

Always pay attention to your thoughts and intuition as well, as this will most likely prove to be beneficial in personalizing the reading for each individual. The more in-tune your are to their energy, the easier it is to discern the signs and symbols within each card that applies to that specific individual.

Ultimately, it’s up to each individual who chooses to read and interpret the Tarot as to how much study they are willing to do and to what depth and degree. But keep in mind, the more knowledgeable you become with the symbolism it will greatly enhance your ability to interpret the cards more thoroughly and accurately.

Each source will provide a different viewpoint to shed light and help expand your mind by showing you various possibilities that you may not have considered previously so that you may discern and decide for yourself the meaning that best matches your own perception and understanding.

That is why I highly recommend keeping track of all the possible interpretations of the various symbols associated with the Tarot and try to gain recognition of the various signs and symbols at a glance; because the key is learning to quickly look at the cards & draw a generalized overview of what the cards are saying especially if you are doing a one-on-one reading for someone else.

If you are being paid to do the reading, keep in mind, that they are paying for you to tell them valuable information relative to them; not you spending all day trying to figure out what the cards mean.

That is why I am pointing out the need to thoroughly study the Tarot so that when you are interpreting them for someone else you are confident in your ability to accurately access and read the Tarot instead of appearing foolish and as if you don’t know what you’re doing. Even if you’re not the best Tarot reader in the world, if you act like you don’t know what you’re doing, inevitably people will pick up on that.

So make sure that you always present yourself professionally, confidently and knowledgeable of the subject. If you lack faith in yourself in accurately interpreting the cards, the person you’re doing the reading for will probably not have much faith in your abilities either which could be bad for business, reputation and self-esteem.

To avoid that situation, put forth the effort to truly study the Tarot and it’s associated symbolism. Learn all that you can on the subject and symbology.

Take the time to memorize and familiarize yourself with the various meanings. If you’re planning on doing this professionally, this will prove to be very beneficial to you. Don’t rush things, do your homework now to avoid frustration in the future.

The better prepared you are to answer unexpected questions and clarifying your interpretation for the client will enhance your clients trust in your abilities. Be thorough and disciplined in your approach. Treat this as if you were going back to school and learning a new skill or trade. Set aside time within your schedule to devote time to studying.

A few hours a night or even every week spending time focusing upon learning the Tarot will help you. There’s only 78 cards so with a little discipline, it shouldn’t take very long to make your way through the entire deck and have a pretty good understanding.

The more knowledgeable you become the better you will become at divining the Tarot effectively. Seek to utilize and master this wonderful divination tool but always keep in mind, no matter how much we may master something we are always students learning and enhancing our understanding and the same applies to the art of Tarot.

To Your Divinatory Success!

Whether a beginner to Tarot cards or a seasoned diviner, to read tarot cards, you need a set of tarot cards! So, how do you choose a set of tarot cards? After all the cards are personal to you.

A set of tarot cards can become very personal items indeed. When we need answers, and these answers can not be seen, then we need to utilize other tools, such as tarot cards. As we fringe on the spiritual, the spiritual is personal.

The tarot cards do not simply give answers to all who use them. Tarot cards must be respected, and a bond created. So, the first point in selecting tarot cards is to find tarot cards that you feel a bond to. This bond can just be the individuality of the cards, that express you or perhaps any other factor such as a gut feeling that these tarot cards is the right one to buy.

When buying tarot cards online, the process is the same. Simply look at the pictures, and listen to your gut feeling, your intuition. If the cards simply stand out, even though all the pictures are all the same size, and the others fade, while this set looks vibrant in a spiritual sense, then that may be the best tarot card set to buy.

Another consideration is the price, when buying tarot cards. There are many different sets of tarot cards that you can buy. If it is your first time at tarot, remember that you don’t need to go for the most expensive set.

Purchasing tarot cards should be done with respect. Though there are very cheap tarot cards available, you want to find a set that is both within your budget, and also one which you will value.

If you are a seasoned diviner, then you may want a more expensive set, though this is not necessary. Cheap and expensive sets do the same thing in essence. Though treating yourself with a good set can be fun. However, to stop yourself from selecting the most expensive, and beautiful sets, consider your budget first.

Setting a budget before buying a set of tarot cards, can allow you to stay focused, and find a set. All too often, you can get stuck on trying to find the best set or end up buying several sets. Setting a budget keeps us focused.

Another point before closing this article is that of the style and type of tarot cards, you want to buy. For example, there are tarot cards for sale that have themes or different styles of cards. These styles can be the Thoth deck or the Rider Waite deck or some of the many other styles. Though they pretty much do the same thing.

Author: Samantha Srillian

The story of tarot cards started around the 15th century, one century after cards were introduced in Europe starting with the newly rising towns in Italy like Milan, Ferrera, and Bologna.

The evolution of Tarot as we know it today has a variety of stories and legends. The mystical quality of tarot cards intrigues historians, scholars, spiritualists, and hobbyists.

Tarot cards were first used as game pieces much like regular decks, far different from what we think of tarot cards today, although a reference to Tarot as a set of devil cards was made as early as 1450. The culture of tarot cards started in Egypt, which is the same civilization that championed astrology.

A typical tarot deck contains 78 cards consisting of the four suits seen in regular card games, which are hearts, diamonds, spades, and clubs. The Latin version of the tarot deck has a different set of suits. They are swords, batons, cups, and coins. Like a regular deck, tarot cards are numbered from one to ten plus the four court cards; jack, queen, king, and ace.

The difference between a tarot deck and the regular deck is the twenty-one divinity cards known as Major Arcana. A joker equivalent in the tarot deck is called the Fool, or the excuse. The Fool can take all four suits and acts as the strongest trump card.

Meaning is assigned to each card in a tarot deck; however, the specifics of interpretation are impacted by the layout of the cards, whether they are upright or reversed, and the interpreters own reading. Many of the cards in the major arcana, the trump cards, are fairly logical. The Lovers represent love, in some capacity, while Strength is symbolic of courage and drive.

Each of the cards in the minor arcana also carries meaning when used for divination, based on both the numeric value of the card and which suit it is. Meanings of each card can be found online, in books, or simply by interpreting the images on the card.

Along with the evolving interpretations to the meaning of tarot cards come new methods for card readers to express the message to the average Joe. Today, face-to-face card readings are being replaced by phone and online readings. However, for full impact and experience, face-to-face card readings still trump other methods.

Face-to-face tarot readings allow the person to choose his face-down card, giving him a semblance of control to his fortunes. Face-to-face readings are common in community fairs, parties, and in the streets. The price of a tarot card reading varies depending on the popularity of the reader and how much detail the person wants to know about his future.

Alternative tarot card reading methods include phone and online readings. While there are free Internet sites to read your fortunes, they are only for show or offered as a gimmick. On the other hand, professional tarot card readers offering their services over the phone can cost about 5.00 per reading.

Card reading over the phone offers a different approach to commercial tarot card reading, since the customer can have a hotline to know his fortunes on demand. Card reading allows people to have their fortunes checked every morning, which is both convenient and lifestyle altering.

Tarot card divination may not be a real science; it may not be as accurate as some people would like to believe, but the market for tarot is ever growing through the availability of readings online and in other similar mediums. While this is so, there is still a large demand for face-to-face tarot reading because of the mystique and interactivity.

A fair judgment of the industry is that it is growing in its different aspects - whether it is face to face, on the phone, or by some other medium. While society drives itself into a more scientific future, the appeal of astrology, especially in tarot cards, is still growing fast.

The history of the paranormal tarot cards is something that is masked by time.

There’s some testimonials and researchers that join the source of the Tarot with that of old egyptian times, while additional teachers and researchers suggest that the fortune telling apportions sources with very oldbohemian refinement.

Nonetheless, there are additional researchers that append an Italiansource to the Tarot cards, and it is believed that the Tarot Cards became a tool of clairvoyance near the 1400s. Since that experience, plenty of distinct types have evolved and are just now employed. One of the much well-liked decks being the Rider-Waite deck.

Reading a tarot card is easy, as each trump card has a distinct meaning. However, careful interpretation is needed if one wants to read the meaning from the collection of cards. These cards have astrological connections with readings placed under the context of the Octavian Calendar. Tarot cards are believed to readily describe the physical and emotional characteristics of the subject.

The rich and age-old tradition of tarot reading is constantly evolving through time. The methods of interpreting tarot cards continue to change to catch up with the culture it is living in. The change in meaning can also contribute to the evolution of the card itself. The elements of a tarot card today are far different from what it was before.

Many tarot readings are done face to face. You can find someone who reads tarot cards in your local area by searching online, checking local listings or asking at an occult bookshop. You should come prepared with a question or query much of the time, and may find that while you can gain some useful insights from a reading, it is more a perceptive tool than a truly esoteric one. Each tarot reader has their own preferences with regard to how they lay out cards and read them; however, you can reasonable expect that a more complex and time consuming reading will be more costly.

You can also have a tarot reading done over the phone. If you cannot find a local person who does tarot readings or would prefer additional discretion, this can be a good choice. While you should expect a tarot reading over the phone to be rather expensive, do avoid questionable services charging by the minute. There are reputable tarot card readers who provide readings over the phone for a reasonable flat fee. Some may also offer online readings for a small sum, and provide their interpretation of the cards via email.

Tarot cards have been around for centuries and have been used in many cultures for the purposes of divination. There are a variety of card layouts, and there are several different card reading methods that card readers use. The interpretation of Tarot Cards is based on the card position and the various symbols in each card.

It is the Tarot cards which help you gain an insight into your own self, your desires, needs, talents, attitude, preferences and your skills.

These are valuable sets of information knowing which you can enjoy a satisfying and a happy work life.

Tarot cards - a powerful divination tool enables an individual to gain insight into his/her problems or challenging situations by choosing cards. The cards thus chosen are then interpreted by the experienced reader, who explains what they mean in relation to the question asked.

The subconscious mind of the reader as well as the individual is in someway connected to the powerful symbols of the tarot cards. This enables the experienced psychic reader to provide a proper guidance by having an insight into the situation of the individual.

Choice is what makes up our life. You will always have innumerable options in life to pick and choose the one which fits you the best. When you are in the initial steps of planning to start off your work life, it is the deck of tarot cards which help you in decision making.

It gives you proper guidance and shows you the right path to be followed. Focus is led by these divination decks as to which business or profession will suit you the best according to your aptitude and preferences. In addition to these, the tarot cards also clarify a person’s goal in his/her life.

Tarot is nothing but just a form of art. It is an intuitive yet a natural tool. It is a focus on what it is to be human. It is a guide through our conscious allowing us to view the options and choose the better path. Tarot cards are a deck of cards, which at present, are being commonly used to predict the future in terms of probabilities.

It is because of the tarot cards that we understand our colleagues and our employers at the workplace. It makes everything visible and transparent. Issues related to our potential, our partnerships, our conflict and misunderstandings are resolved with the help of these decks thus creating a calm, peaceful and healthy working environment.

It is necessary for us to understand that we create situations based on our own behaviors and temperaments. The tarot readings teach us how to be adaptable and flexible at the workplace.

With the help of tarot we assimilate our selves, our personality and the various negative sides of our character together. As a result we clearly see how our work life and successful careers affects the personal areas of our life and vice versa. In all human relationships we project ourselves in multiple ways. It is with the help of the tarots that we see ourselves as complete beings with multiple dimensions.

Stress is the most common psychological disease in the corporate world today. It is the origin of a whole lot of other problems and physical disorders which has its seeds sown in our subconscious mind. In this field also the contribution of the divination decks is appreciable. Tarot helps us to be stress free and lighter. Tarot shows us the practical side of things instead of showing us what we want to see.

Now it is upon us to believe in all these derivations and explanation. But as far as career, finance and work life are concerned we human beings tend to believe the divination decks for the purpose of living a happy and peaceful life. From this perspective, it can be concluded that there is nothing wrong in going for a tarot reading, as long as we do not become puppets of the mystical world.

Author: Tenzin Pemo

One of the most interesting things about the tarot deck is that each card has a history and an evolution from the original tarot decks of long ago to today. The Chariot card, the seventh card in the Major Arcana, is no exception.

It is thought that with the first Tarot decks, the pictures and characters on the card were not the main focus.

Instead, the cards stood more for ideas and principles than the literal picture on the card. Over time, most tarot decks have become far more literal. In the case of The Chariot card, most tarot experts believe that the original meaning attached to the card was that of victory.

Ironically, the original Chariot card had very little to do with the chariot, itself. The focus of the card was usually the warrior or soldier who was in the chariot.

Most ancient decks show the passenger decked out in royal or tribal garb, almost always armed, and with the look of having just returned from a grueling battle, victorious and ready to bask in the spoils of war.

Another interesting evolution of the Chariot card has been the placement of the card in the tarot deck. Modern tarot users know the Chariot card as the seventh card of the major arcana, but throughout history, the placement of the chariot card has been as low as fourth and as high as ninth!

Other experts link the origins of the Chariot card not to victory at war, but over victory of carnal pleasures. Since the modern tarot can be traced back to Italy, most experts are in agreement that the chariot depicted on the card was taken from the many parades that featured chariots in 14th-centry Italy.

But instead of celebrating a victory at war, some believe that the chariot card has more to do with the temperance card and a victory over chastity.

It was commonly believed, and still is in parts of the world, that if a soldier is forbidden from engaging in sexual activity before battle, he will fight harder, stronger and longer.

So it is possible that there is a connection between a war and a purity origin for the Chariot card. The idea of abstaining from sexual contact is still in common use today, but in a much gentler context in the world of professional and amateur sports.

While the exact origins of each card, and each character will always be a subject of debate, it is safe to say that as different tarot decks evolved in different spots around the world, the meaning of each character differed.

The Chariot card had a closer tie to keeping your spiritual purity and physical purity while you are committing the unspeakable acts of war, while in other parts of the world, the historical meaning of the card points more to control over the uncertainties of life, much like the Wheel of Fortune card.

Of course, as is the case with all modern tarot, the exact interpretation of The Chariot will depend largely on the question asked and the tone set by the rest of the cards during your reading.

Modern interpretations of The Chariot range from positives like power, victory, honor and pride, to negatives such as egocentrism, inflexibility, impulsivity and anxiety.

Of course, if the card appears reversed in any readings, those associations would be reversed as well in the context of the original question asked.

One theme that has been associated with The Chariot from day one has been hard work. If The Chariot should appear during your next reading, know that the goal you are asking about is attainable, but it will not be easy and that your quest will require focus and commitment over a long period of time.

When The Chariot appears reversed during readings, the most common principle attached to the card is a loss of control. The theme of control and the anxiety that is associated with it is a common theme that runs throughout the modern tarot and can be associated, at least in some degree, with dozens of cards.

The Chariot card is a wonderful and interesting card with a history that is like a colorful tapestry. While each card has its own interesting history, by knowing the origins and the evolution of The Chariot, it will make your understanding and appreciation of the tarot that much more meaningful.

A Tarot deck is a pack of 78 picture cards yes, that simple. However, the pictures on these cards are worth more than a thousand words they paint a picture of life.

A Tarot deck can also be thought of as a Book of Life but every time you read this book, the pages are rearranged and it tells a different story.

Over the years, some strange myths have grown up around Tarot and Tarot reading. However weird and outdated these ideas may seem today, there is often some truth in their origins.

One of the first Tarot myths encountered is that it is bad luck to buy your own deck. - it should be bought for you by someone else. You could wait for ever for this to happen and then it may be one you dont like. Choose and buy your own first deck, examine the images carefully and make sure you can relate to them i.e. dont buy a dragon deck if you are frightened of dragons.

You have to be psychic to be able to read the Tarot. Many who read the Tarot are psychic and this will lead to a different type of reading but not necessarily a better one. Anyone can learn to read the tarot although, as with anything, some will have more of an aptitude for it than others.

The Tarot cards must be wrapped in black silk to protect them from negative forces? That is entirely up to you although personally I feel that dust and childrens fingers may be a greater danger. By all means take the necessary precautions to keep the cards clean and in good condition. They are, after all, your tools.

Never let anyone else touch your cards. This is another personal choice. In a face to face reading situation it can be beneficial to let the querent (questioner) shuffle the cards in order to impart some of their energies into the deck.

You should not read your own cards. Some say this is unlucky, I say it can be difficult to read ones own cards objectively. By this I mean it is easy to see what you want to see in your own cards.

The Death card means that someone around you is going to die. Theoretically, this is possible as we are all going to die but it is highly unlikely that this card on its own will prophesise someones death.

What the Tarot cards say is always right. Nothing is set in stone more like written in sand. We all have our free will and the Tarot gives us guidance along with choices that we can make in our lives. It is up to us to choose our paths. If we see something in a reading that we do not like then we have the choice to do something about changing that thing.

Tarot is evil. Also described as the Devils Picture Book. It is human nature to be afraid of something that is not fully understood or what is viewed as threatening. True, some of the images may be a bit scary in some decks but so are some great works of art they arent thought of as evil.

At the end of the day, they are your cards for you to do what you wish with them. If performing a ritual before a reading makes you feel better then do it. Just use your common sense. As long as it harms no one else do what you wish.
