LEIGHTRONIX have executed a unique agreement under which LEIGHTRONIX will integrate the full line of Aurora Networks’ “GoBackTV by Aurora” line of digital products under the LEIGHTRONIX LuxeVision trade name.

LuxeVision provides a robust suite of digital video, audio, and control technologies combined to create a full featured and high-quality interactive television experience. Expanding on standard Internet protocol based systems widely known as IPTV, LuxeVision integrates encoding, scheduled playback, transcoding, delivery, and decoding functions. The result is an end-to-end solution that delivers live television, time-shifting, and video-on-demand services over DSL/PON, cable, or Ethernet.

GoBackTV by Aurora is a suite of headend/central office equipment designed to support digital stream-based broadcast, multicast, and unicast interactive television services. The platform enables broadband service operators to go beyond ordinary digital television and VOD, and offer next generation, personalized television services. One key service is time shifting: viewers can pause and rewind live TV, or even jump back to the beginning of a show with the click of a button. Other functionalities include network-based recording, channel customization, and playlist creation.

In contrast to other emerging Broadband TV models that require proprietary head-end equipment and market-by-market retransmission agreements, Entone's FusionTV service aligns service operators and broadcasters with existing FCC regulations. FusionTV also prevents conflicts with broadcasters by allowing operators to embrace the popularity of free-to-air programming.

UTStarcom announces it has been awarded a contract from Hainan Network Television to build an integrated IPTV broadcasting control platform. Hainan is the second among 42 recently designated trial markets to award an IPTV solutions contract to UTStarcom. The new broadcasting control platform will support the content management and distribution needs of IPTV, Internet TV and mobile TV.

"This new platform will cover all of Hainan province and provide approximately 100,000 household subscribers with digital, high-definition, and bi-directional IPTV. It will also enable HNWTV to centrally manage their television content distribution, storage, advertising posting, and subscriber data information," said UTStarcom President and CEO Mr. Jack Lu. "We are excited to have won our second contract in this current phase of China's network convergence plan, as we continue to expand our market share and look to a smooth and accelerated development of the interactive media industry in the second half of 2012."

There are few TV, phone, and Internet providers that manage to please subscribers on all counts, and those that do don't typically serve a lot of consumers. Verizon FiOS, which is available in portions of 12 mostly Eastern states, Washington, D.C., southern California and Texas, was cited as highly rated among providers offering all three services, based on the latest subscriber survey on telecom providers from the Consumer Reports National Research Center. However, WOW, a regional telecom provider serving four Midwestern states, was also top-rated.

The full report on Internet, phone, and TV service appears in the June issue of Consumer Reports and online at www.ConsumerReports.org.

Based on the survey, Verizon FiOS scored higher than the major cable companies for TV picture, sound, and channel selection and received Consumer Reports' highest mark for Internet speed. However, FiOS had more complaints than most about bills for triple play and subscribers must rent a receiver for every TV, which all cable companies may not require.

A new report from Juniper Research finds that the number of streamed mobile TV users on smartphones will increase to 240 million by 2014. This increase will be driven by a rise in smartphone penetration and a growth in the usage of internet TV and IPTV services.

TV Anytime, Anywhere

The report found that the substantial growth in streamed mobile TV users would arise from a combination of both increased smartphone penetration and, critically, an increasing usage of live and on-demand services both on TVs and PCs. These catch-up and live internet TV services are already allowing users to become their own programme schedulers – mobile allows consumers to take this content away from the home by ‘placeshifting’ it and adding a new dimension to the TV experience.

LG to Launch Google TV in U.S.

LG plans to launch Internet-enabled TV based on Google’s platform in the United States in the week of May 21, as the South Korean firm seeks to gain a larger share of the emerging Internet TV market, a senior LG executive said on Monday.

The move reflects an aggressive push by the duo to defend against a potential threat from Apple Inc, which reshaped the handset market with its iPhone smartphone and is widely expected to unveil a full-fledged TV product later this year or early next year.

Celebro Media Networks joined the BBC last night in celebrating the first broadcast of live television output from its new Broadcasting House. BBC Russian’s 10-minute news programme was broadcast live from the new state-of-the-art studio space in the BBC’s new Central London home to Russia’s 24-hour IPTV channel Dozhd TV in Moscow – in the first live news transmission produced and broadcast as an IPTV operation.

A team from Celebro Media Networks developed and piloted the programme’s format, training editorial teams in the live gallery output and TV workflows. Our lead IPTV Consultant Wesley Dodd was in the gallery for the launch. He said: “All the team worked so hard to bring us to this pioneering moment. It felt like a milestone in the history of broadcasting as we produced and delivered the live news bulletin as an IPTV operation from the BBC’s new Broadcasting House for the first time.”

Report: IPTV Subscribers Up in a Competitive Market

According to leading broadband analyst firm Point Topic, global IPTV subscriptions closed in on 60 million at the end of 2011, with the last yearly quarter witnessing the biggest three month increase in subscribers yet.

“The year end is often the strong quarter but in combination with the global recovery in consumer spending and the will and technical ability to deliver a service, IPTV is really starting to find the sweet spot,” comments Oliver Johnson, CEO of Point Topic.

“In addition we’ve seen a growth in the Average Revenue per User the operators have managed to generate.”

These figures are taken from Point Topic’s Internet Video and Voice service, which provides a comprehensive view of the global internet video and voice markets.

FilmOn.TV has signed a deal with Content Media for The Paranormal Channel. FilmOn.TV streams 150 linear HD channels as well as 10,000 video on demand titles and The Paranormal Channel is completely unique to FilmOn.TV; you can't find it anywhere else on the internet. It will be FilmOn.TV's first 24/7 paranormal channel featuring everything from aliens, Bigfoot, and hauntings to controversial ghost stories, unexplained mysteries, Roswell and unlocking the Di Vinci code.

The deal was recently signed between CEO and founder of FilmOn.TV, Alki David and Content Media's Mark Benmore. "The Paranormal Channel is unique to FilmOn.TV because it touches an area that is based on reality and horror," said David. "The paranormal has always interested our viewers. We see this from the success of our horror and sci-fi channels. The Paranormal Channel really complements this line up of content because their shows are just what our viewers are looking for."
