On cable tonight, A&E has a Paul Simon’s Graceland Journey: Under African Skies, Food Network has the series premiere of Mystery Dinners, and Syfy has the series premiere of Insane or Inspired?.

Fairly Legal and Common Law are taking this week off and will resume their seasons next week.

Starz will be replaying the first seven episodes of Magic City with three episodes tonight, two Saturday night and two more on Sunday night. The first season finale plays next week. Then the starting June 8th, they will begin replaying all three Spartacus series in order over the summer. First up is Spartacus: Gods of the Arena, then Spartacus: Blood and Sand and finally Spartacus: Vengeance with three episodes each Friday night though August 10th.

Nikita (The CW): Repeat. The season two premiere episode, “Game Change,” replays, where Michael and Nikita are preparing to use the contents of the black box to take down Division.

Grimm (NBC): Repeat. The “Beeware” episode replays, where a flash-mob ends with a homicide and Nick and Hank have to protect a not so nice person.

Blue Bloods (CBS): Repeat. The “Lonely Hearts Club” from this past season replays, where Jackie goes undercover as an escort.

News & Notes

Last night the regular TV season for 2011-12 officially came to an end and tonight is the start of the summer season. While a few reality type shows have started or will be starting soon on the networks, the scripted cable offerings are still a week or two away for the most part.

Tonight, ABC has the series premiere of Duets and the third season premiere of Rookie Blue, The CW has a Perez Hilton All Access: Lady Gaga special, FOX has the ninth season premiere of So You Think You Can Dance, and NBC has the first season finale of Awake.

Over on cable, TBS has the series premiere of Men at Work and TLC has the series premieres of On the Fly and Tattoo School.

Prime Picks

The Big Bang Theory (CBS): Repeat. “The Flaming Spittoon Acquisition” from this past season, where Sheldon gets jealous after Stuart from the comic book store ask Amy out on a date.
Rules of Engagement (CBS): Repeat. The “Audrey is Dumb” episode from this past season replays, where Jeff has a little fun with Audrey’s inability to talk after throat surgery. Starts a minute after the half hour and runs 29 minutes.

The Vampire Diaries (The CW): Repeat. “The Hybrid” from this past season replays, where Damon and Alaric go along with Elena’s plan to find Stefan.

Awake (NBC): Season Finale. Britten’s realities are threatened as he fights in both of them to prove the conspiracy that was behind his accident.

Other Options

• Men at Work (TBS): Series Premiere. The show follows four friends that work together at a magazine, but spend most of their time helping each other with whatever problems they are facing. Two episodes play tonight. In the first, one of them gets dumped and the rest of them try to help him get over it. In the second episode, the same guy gets a little too involved in writing his first feature for the magazine after advice from his friends. This show is not good. The attempts at jokes are terrible and you don’t really buy them as longtime friends. Maybe after a few episodes the chemistry will come around. But, after watching both of tonight’s episodes, it is the writing that would need to greatly improve for this to be even close to worth watching.
• Rookie Blue (ABC): Season Premiere. Andy has to face the tribunal after her three month suspension. William Shatner guest stars as the grandfather of a missing child. I’ve seen a grand total of three episodes of this show. Each of the season premiere episodes, including tonight’s episode. The stories and dialogue are weak and the acting isn’t much better. It just doesn’t grab me, but for the next few weeks there isn’t much else on.

Tonight, ABC has the third season finale of The Middle, the third season finale of Modern Family, the first season finale of Don’t Trust the B—- in Apartment 23 and the first season finale of Revenge, FOX has the 11th season finale of American Idol, and NBC has the first season finale of Betty White’s Off Their Rockers and the 13th season finale of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.

The Middle (ABC): Season Finale. Mike’s brother is planning to get married at Mike’s place, but doesn’t tell him. Axl and his friends come up with a way to get summer jobs.
Modern Family (ABC): Repeat. The “Aunt Mommy” episode from earlier this season replays.

Modern Family (ABC): Season Finale. Gloria’s bilingualism may come in handy for Mitchell and Cam. Haley announces what she plans to do in the future. Runs 32 minutes.
Don’t Trust the B—- in Apartment 23 (ABC): Season Finale. June is trying to keep up with Chloe. James is upset after finding out that Dean Cain’s dressing room is bigger than his. Starts two minutes after the half hour and runs 28 minutes.

Revenge: (ABC): Season Finale. Emily starts to put the final stages of her plan together while the Graysons continue to self-destruct, but then something big happens.

As the regular TV season comes to a close and the Summer TV season begins, the amount of TV on each night that is worth watching sadly lessens. So, we will be going with just have the Prime Picks and Other Options sections over the summer and the Solid Selection section will return come fall.
