I TOTALLY agree with the "remind me in more than 2 days" idea! My more-than-5-year-old HP iPaq (I still wonder why Apple didn't jump on HP's toes for taking on their "iDevice" branding?) was able to set reminders WEEKS in advance, let alone days! As someone who is mildly disabled I attend clinics 2 or 3 times a year that require certain pathology test to be done at least week in advance. On the iPhone I have to set separate events for the pathology test and the appointment, on the iPaq I could set the reminder for the appointment at 2 weeks which would automatically give me a week's notice for the pathology. I also agree with the "bug me till I acknowledge the reminder" idea! It works for the "alarm clock", why not iCal? Catch up Apple!

Great article! I'm a little skeptical of the value for Twitter. After all, it will just tell you that new information is available and let you tap OK to launch your app. Why not just launch your app and see the new info yourself. Especially if you have a real easy way to get a quick update, like TvvitterBug's "double-tap" instant update feature. You just double-tap the title bar of any view you're on at you get an instant update. Works with "Home", "Direct Messages", "Mentions", everything. I think that's a lot better than constantly being interrupted by "you've got a push notification" popups all the time. Besides, doesn't it take like 15 mins or so to even get the notification? Why wait when you can simply double-tap and get them now? Sounds to me like a lot less steps and a more timely fashion to ultimately get the same thing.

Alex.. U have another problem.. I tried to put one of my audiobooks in my podcast folder by changing the media kind.. Behold when I check the podcast folder the audiobook is no there... I have no idea how to get it back via itunes... I can view it using other media software like MediaMonkey, but in iTunes it is gone for good as it seems.. Any way I can bring it back to being an audiobook or anything for that matter? Thanx Lots in advance..

Wow. Is this really a concern? I like to think people are intelligent enough handle a little variance. Should every web page have the same user interface? Should every application do the same thing? Should computers just have one big button?

Variety is good and the responsibility of good usability should rest on the developer. I have also seen mac applications that carry their own UI; therefore Mac developers are not necessarily tied to it either. Is AIR really the enemy, or should you be looking at UI development as a choice between developer decision based on the application vs. Mac Nazi look and feel? (See? I can make something innocent and non-important look evil as well.)

Also, when developing an AIR application there is an option to use the system chrome. So a mac will look like a mac and a PC will look like a PC. Again, it comes down to developer decision. I think the most valid point in this article is, "in the end, users will decide what sticks and what doesn’t." Well said. I say we leave it there. If the UI is bad, users won't use it just like they wouldn't visit a site with bad UI regardless of how good it looks. Developers know this. . . or should anyway.

AIR does have securities in it so the app does not run unless the user wants it; making it impossible to write a virus on that platform. You don't like an AIR app, don't run it. Uninstall it. Delete it. But to mask ban a platform because it allows individuality is foolishness. Who knows? Maybe you will find an app that has a better UI than the Mac and wish every application conformed to that.

So, which is better? Creativity and innovation, or conformity and fear of individuality? You decide. It's your computer.

I think they would find another way, for example financing the phone under a separate fee and agreement. Hard to say exactly what it would be. Fido in Canada used have no contracts but you had to pay back your phone discount if you left within a certain period. Was much easier to understand I think
