This is my third week on the job as your new Chairman of the Tennessee Republican Party. As promised, I have hit the ground running and we are off to a great start.
We have been building a team and putting in the processes to prepare us for victory in the 2010 elections. My agenda is one thing: building our Republican majorities in the General Assembly and electing a Republican governor. We have had success…

Gov. Phil Bredesen (D), who kept his cards close to the vest, signed the homeschool diploma bill this afternoon. HB0431/SB0433 was filibustered by the Democrats for nearly 2 hours two weeks ago as they fought tooth and nail to keep students with Category IV diplomas from getting jobs as police officers (despite getting their college degrees), or day care workers, auctioneers, hair dressers…

Today’s edition of The City Paper explores how Democrats in the state House killed legislation to expand charter schools in Tennessee - by prioritizing politics and the desires of the teachers’ unions over the need to reform and improve our state’s public schools.
The legislation had bi-partisan support and sponsorship, but House Democrats used a rare “unit vote” rule to require that their members voted against the legislation, which would have allowed children…

New chairman says holding legislative majority, electing Republican governor in 2010 is top priority
NASHVILLE – The State Executive Committee of the Tennessee Republican Party elected a new party chairman Saturday, selecting Chris Devaney, U.S. Sen. Bob Corker’s state director and a former executive director for the Tennessee Republican Party.
Devaney becomes chairman immediately, replacing outgoing Chairman Robin Smith, who served as the party chairman for 22 months and led the party to a historic victory…

Today, I write my final Tennessee Republican Party Report with a smile and fond memories. My first “Weekly Report” was written in August of 2007, the month I was elected.
Reflection offers the advantage of hindsight and typically is clearer in view. The last few days since the announcement of my resignation have certainly been humbling and revealing.
Humbling days from the perspective of receiving the kind notes, the wonderful words of encouragement and…

Tennessee Second in Nation for Violent Crime as Governor Vetoes Legislation To Expand Rights For Gun-Carry Permit Holders

Nashville - Gov. Phil Bredesen’s veto of legislation that would allow Tennesseans with handgun carry permits to carry their handguns into establishments that serve alcohol should immediately be overturned by the state legislature, the Tennessee Republican Party urged today.
“Gov. Bredesen’s veto is a rejection of the desires of most Tennesseans and an overwhelming and bipartisan majority of legislators.…

NASHVILLE - The Republican Party will have the majority of seats on the State Election Commission, as required by state law, under legislation passed today by the state House, overcoming efforts by Democrats to hang on to control of the Commission despite the clear intention of state law.
State law currently requires that the party holding the majority of seats in the legislature also have a majority of seats on the State Election Commission, but…
